NFL Week 13: Best Matchups Include the Eagles Trying to Contain the 49ers’ Red-Zone Offense (Detroit Lions (8–3) vs. New Orleans Saints (5–6) - Key matchup: Lions run game vs. Saints front seven.  Detroit is trying to rebound after a few poor performances at home, and now heads to the Superdome. The Lions have run the ball well with David Montgomery and rookie Jahmyr Gibbs, ranking fourth in yards per carry (4.6).  This could be a big advantage against the Saints, who haven’t been able to shut down opponents on the ground. New Orleans is allowing 4.5 YPC, tied for 26th-worst in the league.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/2023/12/01/matchupd-stats-week-13-49ers-eagles

Lions Impressed with 'Really Smooth Delivery' of Hendon Hooker:  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/lions-impressed-really-smooth-delivery-hendon-hooker

NFL Team Needs Tracker: One upcoming free agent, one 2024 NFL Draft prospect for all 32 teams after Week 12 (DETROIT LIONS: EDGE DEFENDER - Projected win total (per PFF Power Rankings): 11.1 (8th).  Projected draft position (inverse of standings): 27th.  Unit grade through Week 13: 79.3 (8th).  The Lions' edge rush unit outside of Aidan Hutchinson has generated very little production, and teams are now neutralizing Hutchinson with doubles and chips as a result.  Prospect: Washington EDGE Bralen Trice.  Trice hasn’t gotten as much weekly recognition as one would imagine, given he was a known commodity coming into 2023 and has produced at an elite level. His 91.9 pass-rushing grade on true pass sets and 17.3% pass-rush win rate are among the top marks in the FBS.  Free agent: New York Jets EDGE Bryce Huff.  The Jets have not made much of an effort to sign Huff to an early extension as he continues to rack up pressures, producing a career-best mark of 49 through Week 13 on a 23.4% pressure rate. Huff is on pace to play the most snaps of his career and is not just a third-down rushing specialist, but he may never be a true three-down contributor throughout a full season. Nonetheless, the Lions adding this exact skill set would push their pass-rush unit to new heights immediately.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-team-needs-tracker-free-agents-2024-nfl-draft-prospects-week-12-2023

NFL QB Index, Week 13: Dak Prescott soars to No. 1; Russell Wilson knocking on door of top 10 (13.  Jared Goff (2023 stats: 11 games | 67.9 pct | 3,075 pass yds | 7.6 ypa | 18 pass TD | 8 INT | 23 rush yds | 2 rush TD | 5 fumbles):  A theme emerged from Detroit’s Thanksgiving Day loss to Green Bay: When Goff is protected adequately, he’s a sharp, efficient quarterback, but when the Lions struggle to keep the rush at bay, he becomes a wild card who tends to produce more negative outcomes than positive ones. This was painfully apparent in his three fumbles lost, including one returned for a touchdown. Goff tried his hardest to lift the Lions out of the morass they found themselves in offensively, but he rarely had time to operate against a Packers defense that registered 21 pressures. Detroit suffered accordingly, and Goff looked rather human in a season in which he’s played some of his best football otherwise. The same theme existed in Detroit’s comeback win over Chicago, giving us legitimate reason to be concerned about the cracks in the Lions’ foundation. They’ll need to protect him better going forward.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-week-13-2023-nfl-season

Re-drafting every first-round pick from 2023 NFL Draft (12. Detroit Lions: LB Tuli Tuipulotu - Actual pick: RB Jahmyr Gibbs.  The original pick, Jahmyr Gibbs, and even a cornerback were options here, but I went with a bookend edge rusher for Aidan Hutchinson along the defensive line. Tuipulotu was a favorite coming out of college, but the big question was where would he line up? On the edge, he has been a game-wrecker, at times, for the Chargers.  18. Detroit Lions: RB Jahmyr Gibbs - Actual pick: LB Jack Campbell.  Originally the Lions' No. 12 pick, Gibbs is still on the board. I gave some consideration to taking TE Sam LaPorta here because he's been so important to the offense, but I gave the slight edge to Gibbs because of his versatility as both a runner and a receiver.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/redrafting-every-first-round-pick-from-2023-nfl-draft-going-through-all-31-selections-3-months-into-season/
