I watched him during running back drills and he’s, shall we say, acceptable, if that’s the right way of saying it. But, he’s going to get paid to mash some linebackers. I saw him sift through the trash to find a South linebacker during an inside run drill and introduce himself with authority. In fact, a couple of plays later, in a similar matchup that same linebacker tried to slip the block and Bawden caught him in the chops again.) 3 Things We Learned in the Aztecs' Win over New Mexico (2. Nick Bawden found a home at fullback. Senior Nick Bawden came to SDSU four years ago as a quarterback. He even made two starts among five appearances during the 2014 season as a true freshman before being switched three years ago to fullback.  Obviously, he found his true calling.  Bawden is a bruising blocker who led the interference for first D.J. Pumphrey and now Rashaad Penny to become 2,000-yard running backs. They are the first teammates in NCAA history to accomplish it in back-to-back years, making Bawden the only fullback who has ever cleared the way.  Beyond that, Bawden proved an able receiver — even with his right hand wrapped like a club most of the season. Three weeks ago, he hurdled a San Jose State defender to reach the end zone for his first career touchdown. On Friday, with his right hand healed and unencumbered he used it to impressively throw a would-be New Mexico tackler off him to gain extra yardage.  “I'm having so much fun doing what I'm doing now,” said Bawden, whose clean-cut media guide mugshot looks nothing like the long-haired guy who sat for a postgame press conference looking like he was ready to head right back out for another four quarters. “I can't imagine still being at quarterback, honestly. I don't know what that would be like. I get to play real football now.  “No offense to (Christian) Chapman. Chapman is one of the toughest guys on the team. I get to go around and hit people, man. I have so much fun doing that. Blocking for guys like (Penny) and Pumph the past couple of years have been a blessing.
