Could Lions Pursue Jaylon Johnson in Free Agency?:  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/could-lions-pursue-jaylon-johnson-free-agency

2019 NFL Draft Re-Grades (Detroit Lions: T.J. Hockenson, TE, Iowa C Grade - Five-Year Grade: C+ Grade.  This grade doesn’t have much to do with T.J. Hockenson as a player because he’s been a terrific talent for both the Lions and Vikings. However, Hockenson is a tight end, and it’s hard to justify a top-10 pick on a tight end when there was so much great defensive talent available in the 2019 NFL Draft class.  One-Year Grade: C- Grade.  T.J. Hockenson had an amazing debut to his rookie season, torching Arizona’s horrible pass defense. No one realized it at the time, but the Cardinals would surrender career performances to most tight ends this year. That would explain why Hockenson didn’t do very much after the 2019 opener.  I still feel the same way about this pick as I did last April. It seems unnecessary to use a top-10 selection on a tight end, especially when a stud like Ed Oliver is available.  Original Write-up:  This pick will be hailed as a great selection by the media because T.J. Hockenson is a big name, but I’m not a huge fan. Tight ends typically go later than anticipated, so using the eighth-overall selection on one seems questionable, especially with a stud player like Ed Oliver still on the board. Hockenson will be a terrific player for the Lions, so I won’t grade this poorly, but they should’ve either chosen Oliver or moved down a few spots to get more value than this.):  https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftgrades2019.php

2024 Mock Draft Round Up #15

Tankathon (29.  DE Chop Robinson.  61.  CB Kris Abrams-Draine. 73.  DT Leonard Taylor III.  92.  WR Tez Walker) (2-24-24):  https://www.tankathon.com/nfl/mock_draft

PFN Schulte (29. Darius Robinson, EDGE, Missouri:  The Detroit Lions have loved to bet on traits in the NFL Draft, and Darius Robinson screams traits. His power, length, and explosiveness saw him dominate the SEC and at the Senior Bowl.  The Missouri prospect also likely tests out of the gym at the NFL Combine. Detroit needs another three-down edge rusher to pair with Aidan Hutchinson, and Robinson fits their mold of prospects perfectly.  61. Caelen Carson, CB, Wake Forest:  Detroit boosted their pass rush in the first round and turn to their secondary in the second round of this 2024 NFL Mock Draft as they continue to revamp their defense.  Caelen Carson is a competitive and physical outside corner prospect who fits the mold of a press-man corner. Carson’s ball skills need work, but his physicality and competitiveness stand out on film and resemble the kind of players the Lions have sought recently.  73. Ricky Pearsall, WR, Florida:  After devoting their early picks of this 2024 NFL Mock Draft to defense, Detroit turns to finding talent for their wide receiver room. The Lions need another outside threat at wide receiver with Josh Reynolds departing in free agency.  Ricky Pearsall‘s route-running and hands are among the best in this class, and he has a tremendously physical mentality in his playstyle. He would be a great complement to Amon-Ra St. Brown in the slot and Jameson Williams’s deep speed.  92.  DeWayne Carter, DT, Duke:  Part of Detroit’s defensive woes were due to them missing another difference-maker on the defensive line next to Alim McNeill. John Cominsky and Benito Jones filled in but are role players, and Levi Onwuzurike has struggled with multiple injuries, leaving a gap in their defensive line.  DeWayne Carter is an underrated interior pass rusher, boasting tremendous quickness and speed-to-power ability to collapse the pocket. The Duke prospect also has the play strength to hold up in the run game, giving him a three-down skill set.  156. OT Gottlieb Ayedze.  188. TE AJ Barner.  220.  CB Isaiah Johnson) (2-24-24):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/aj-schultes-7-round-2024-nfl-mock-draft-4-qbs-in-top-6-malik-nabers-falls-to-the-falcons/

CBS Fornelli (29. CB Mike Sainristil:  Watch Sainristil's tape and tell me he isn't the kind of player Dan Campbell and the Lions front office will love. The Lions need to add more talent to their secondary, and Sainristil showcases great ball skills and route recognition. He's also going 110% all the time and has a fiery, competitive demeanor.) (2-23-24):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2024-nfl-mock-draft-3-teams-trade-up-to-take-qbs-within-top-10-including-steelers-replacing-kenny-pickett/

MLive Raven (29. OT Troy Fautanu:  Troy Fautanu can play anywhere on the offensive line out of the gates. And that’s why he’s my first mock pick for the Lions despite the glaring needs at cornerback and for another edge rusher. Not only that, but Fautanu has become one of my favorite Day 1 options for the Lions since diving deeper into draft coverage.  And while about every draft analyst on the books believes that Fautanu could be a tackle out of the gates on Day 1, the consensus is that he’s better fitted with his style for the interior. ESPN’s Mel Kiper even said, “he’s going to be a Pro Bowl guard.” And The Athletic’s Dane Brugler added that “his fit inside at guard might be even better, though.”  T.J. Tampa and Kamari Lassiter are the top corners, and Chris Braswell is the top edge rusher left on the board. There is better value at those positions later in the draft. And with two starting guards without contracts, not to mention a starting left tackle entering a contract year, Fautanu fills more than one need in Detroit. He’s a starting-level talent for one of the guard positions. And he could be a potential starting tackle with Taylor Decker’s contract running up and Penei Sewell being able to play at an elite level from either the right or left tackle spot.  Fautanu looks built to play on Detroit’s offensive line as an aggressive mauler in the trenches. He has starting experience on the inside and outside. His technique needs refinement, no doubt. But he’s an athletic powerhouse and a fast-rising talent in the trenches. And who better than Lions offensive line coach Hank Fraley and Co. to help Fautanu hit his ceiling as a foundational piece? Fraley has proven to be an elite coach for developing and getting the most out of the trenches, no matter the configuration or injury challenges. And Fautanu and his 6-foot-4, 317-pound frame give him another versatile powerhouse to mold.  Pro Football Focus had Fautanu allowing only three sacks across three seasons at left tackle in Washington’s pass-heavy attack. He has the size, frame and style to hit the ground running as a road-grading guard, with proven chops in pass protection across multiple systems. Fautanu would bring a youthful level of violence to the team’s loaded offensive line, putting them in a better position to make the tough choice of letting Jonah Jackson walk. Fautanu pairs well with Graham Glasgow. And about 2025? The 23-year-old looks like a potential long-term option at right tackle, with Sewell able to move left whenever needed, adding to his long-term value while filling an immediate need for a team looking to keep their offensive line fully stocked.) (2-23-24):  https://www.mlive.com/lions/2024/02/ben-ravens-2024-nfl-mock-draft-10-lions-bolster-stout-ol-with-mean-mauler.html

MLive Meinke (29.  CB Kool-Aid McKinstry:  Brad Holmes is a big believer in collecting the best football players possible, regardless of immediate need. In this projection, the best player available lines up with Detroit’s most immediate need. The Lions ranked 27th defending the pass last year, then averaged 311 passing yards allowed in their three playoff games. Cam Sutton struggled as CB1, allowing the second-worst passer rating among all cornerbacks who played at least half their team’s defensive snaps. Emmanuel Moseley was signed to be CB2, but played just two snaps after tearing another ACL. Jerry Jacobs initially replaced Moseley in the lineup, then was benched in favor of Kindle Vildor, who was on the wrong end of two of the most infamous plays of last season, falling down on the 92-yard TD pass to CeeDee Lamb in Dallas, then having the ball bounce off his face and into the hands of Brandon Aiyuk for a 51-yard catch in the NFC championship game.  The Lions have nearly everyone back for another run at the Super Bowl next season, but must -- must -- find personnel upgrades for the perimeter of their defense. Maybe that happens in free agency. More likely, they find a long-term solution in the draft. There are plenty of good cornerbacks who should be available late in the first round. In this projection, McKinstry, Missouri’s Ennis Rakestraw and Georgia’s Kamari Lassiter are the best corners left at 29. Among that group, I like McKinstry the most. There are questions about his speed, so the combine will be a big week for him. But at 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds, McKinstry is a big, long corner with outstanding coverage skills. He was targeted just 39 times all last season, and allowed only one touchdown. He was one of the best defensive players in the nation’s best conference, and that likely will mean something to Brad Holmes, who has taken former Alabama stars like Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs and Brian Branch in his first three drafts in Detroit. Now Gibbs and Branch are headlining the young core in Detroit, while Williams is finding his way too. In McKinstry, Detroit would land the help it so badly needs to finally stop the carnage in the passing game.) (2-22-24):  https://www.mlive.com/lions/2024/02/kyle-meinkes-2024-nfl-mock-draft-10-lions-land-another-elite-db-from-alabama.html

CBS Edwards (29. OT Jordan Morgan:  ticking with the theme, Jordan Morgan has played left tackle for Arizona but some may project him inside. Detroit has a few interior blockers scheduled to hit free agency so Morgan steps into a starting role on a team fighting to take that next step toward Super Bowl contention.) (2-22-24):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2024-nfl-mock-draft-bears-make-deal-with-qb-needy-team-four-signal-callers-taken-in-top-10/

PFN Broback (29. Adonai Mitchell, WR, Texas:  Detroit seemed destined to have success in 2023, but a disappointing end to the Lions’ season left them wanting more. The offense has exciting talents like running back Jahmyr Gibbs and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, but they still need more.) (2-22-24):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/joe-broback-2024-nfl-mock-draft-caleb-williams-xavier-worthy/

NFL.com Filice (29. CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr.:  Rakestraw is a physical, competitive corner who plays with the kind of edge Dan Campbell adores while excelling in the press-man coverage Aaron Glenn typically prefers. Next week's Indy expedition looms LARGE for this combine participant, both on the field (SEE: 40-yard dash, with questions about his long speed) and off (medicals, with concerns about his injury history).) (2-22-24):  https://www.nfl.com/news/gennaro-filice-2024-nfl-mock-draft-1-0

NBC Sports Froton (29. Ennis Rakestraw Jr., CB, Missouri:  A former non-descript three-star recruit, Rakestraw Jr. is a smooth operator with reflexive hips who is usually in-phase with his coverage assignment. He was a little banged up this year, which limited him to nine games, but it should be noted that Rakestraw Jr. allowed a 64.3% completion rate for 197 yards in that time frame. Detroit continues to build up its team to contend, and Rakestraw Jr. gives the Lions another talented defensive player to build up their contending roster with.) CBS Trapasso (29. CB Cooper DeJean:  How fun would Brian Branch and DeJean be in the Lions secondary?  61. DE Jonah Elliss) (2-21-24):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2024-nfl-two-round-mock-draft-vikings-replace-kirk-cousins-with-j-j-mccarthy-in-round-1/

Freep Birkett (29. CB Ennis Rakestraw - Birkett wrote: "Cornerback is a huge position of need for the Lions, and while they’ll address it on some level in free agency, they need a long-term solution on the outside. Rakestraw doesn’t have huge ball production with one interception in four years, but he’s the type of feisty, physical corner the Lions want on defense.") SI Easterling (29. CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr.:   The Lions have one of the more complete rosters in the league heading into next season, but injuries and inconsistency have been an issue for the secondary, particularly at corner. That's where Detroit should look to use this pick, and Rakestraw brings a well-rounded skill set and the kind of physical mentality that would make him right at home in Dan Campbell's locker room.  61.  DE Marshawn Kneeland.  73.  WR Ja'Lynn Polk.  92.  OG Christian Mahogany.) (2-7-24):  https://www.si.com/nfl/draft/news/2024-nfl-mock-draft-caleb-williams-chicago-bears-jj-mccarthy-denver-broncos-4-rounds

PFN Caswell (29. Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia:  If they don’t trade up for a corner, the Lions are probably upset that Arnold went to the Packers at 25. However, Kamari Lassiter is still a really good player, and the Lions desperately need help in their cornerback room as it plagued them late in the year and in the playoffs.  Lassiter is a bit light with his 6’0″ and 180-pound frame, but he plays bigger than he is and brings his physicality into both the passing game and running game. He’s good in a man-to-man scheme and improved his technique and ball skills in 2023.) (2-21-24):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/josiah-caswell-2024-nfl-mock-draft-february/

NFL.com Dan Jeremiah (29. C Zach Frazier:  The Lions’ starting guards are scheduled to reach free agency this offseason, and this feels like Dan Campbell’s type of player. Frazier, a state-champion wrestler in high school, could step right in at guard and eventually move to center.) (2-20-24):  https://www.nfl.com/news/daniel-jeremiah-2024-nfl-mock-draft-2-0-four-quarterbacks-selected-in-first-eight-picks

Walter football Walt (29. Cam Hart, CB, Notre Dame:  The Lions wanted Devon Witherspoon at No. 6, so perhaps they’ll obtain a cornerback with this pick.  Cam Hart is a big cornerback who limited Marvin Harrison Jr.  61. Detroit Lions: Layden Robinson, G, Texas A&M:  The Lions have a great offensive line, save for right guard. That could be addressed with this pick.  Layden Robinson isn’t very athletic, but he’s a violent blocker who has impressed this season.  73. Tahveon Nicholson, CB:  Here’s another cornerback for the Lions, who really need to address their secondary.  Tahveon Nicholson has some size concerns, but should do well in the slot.  93. Johnny Wilson, WR:  The Lions may bring in someone to challenge Jameson Williams, who has been a disappointment thus far.  Johnny Wilson is a massive receiver who might have to become a tight end in the NFL.) (2-20-24):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2024.php

PFN Helms (29.  Keon Coleman, WR, Florida State:  I don’t love the idea of Detroit taking a wide receiver first, especially with holes in the secondary, but as Keon Coleman falls, I could see the Lions going in that direction. Coleman is extremely athletic and brings another unique skill set to a talented receiver room.) (2-19-24):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/will-helms-2024-nfl-mock-draft-feb-19/

PFN Catalina (29. Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia:  The Lions choose to bolster their CB room with a productive Georgia corner. Kamari Lassiter seems to be slipping through the cracks while others get lifted around him.  Still, Lassiter can play ball. He’ll be someone who can help Detroit early on and add another athletic piece to the stout defense Campbell and Co. hope to build.) (2-19-24):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/tony-catalina-2024-nfl-mock-draft-february/

Walter football Charlie (29. Jordan Morgan, OT:  The Lions need help at cornerback, but the first-round corner prospects are off the board. They could consider helping the offensive line. Their starting guards are free agents, and Taylor Decker is aging. Detroit could start out the rookie at guard and then eventually move him outside to form a tandem with Penei Sewell.  Morgan had an impressive senior year to help himself with NFL scouts. The 6-foot-5, 325-pound possesses excellent size, including length, height and weight, as well as strength and quickness. Morgan was a mainstay for the Wildcats as a starter over the past three seasons. In 2022, he allowed one sack in 670 total snaps. Morgan earned an invitation to the Senior Bowl, and some team sources believe he could be a nice value pick as a late first-round pick.   61. Cam Hart, CB:  The Lions could more cornerback talent.  The 6-foot-2, 205-pounder Hart is a big corner who will enter the next level with good development and experience. In 2023, Hart totaled 21 tackles, four passes broken up and three forced fumbles, but the numbers don’t illustrate how very good Hart was as a senior. He had a superb game against Marvin Harrison Jr., leading the way to limit the star receiver to three catches for 32 yards. Hart moves well for a big cornerback and can play man or zone coverage. With his skill set and experience, Hart could be a starter early in his NFL career. 73. Matt Goncalves, OT, Pittsburgh:  The Lions could use multiple offensive line draft picks with their guards hitting free agency and Taylor Decker aging.  At 6-foot-6, 330 pounds, Goncalves is a big edge blocker for the next level who started at both left and right tackle for Pittsburgh. The Panthers bounced Goncalves back and forth between right and left tackle over 2020-2022, and as a senior, he started at left tackle before going out for the year due to surgery. Goncalves is big, strong, and has good enough movement to stay on the edge in the NFL. His body type also could make him a candidate to play guard as a pro.  93. DeWayne Carter, DT, Duke:  In 2021, the Lions made a great pick by taking Alim McNeil in the third round. Levi Onwuzurike, meanwhile, was a good college player who has had a hard time staying healthy in the NFL. Detroit could use a defensive tackle to go with McNeil.  Carter (6-3, 305) was tough player for the Blue Devils in 2023. He was a solid run defender, making 39 tackles while recording one sack. Carter showed more pass-rush production in previous seasons. In 2022, he picked up 5.5 sacks. He recorded 4.5 sacks in 2021. Carter also totaled seven forced fumbles over that timespan. He is a sleeper who could be a nice value pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.) (2-12-24):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2024charlie_1.php?rbTop

DetroitLions.com Twentyman (29. DE Darius Robinson, Missouri: The Lions are looking for pass-rush help opposite Pro Bowler Aidan Hutchinson, and Robinson brings raw athletic traits and a physical brand of football to the table. He certainly fits the mold upfront for the style of play defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn wants.) (2-19-24):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/2023-nfl-mock-draft-1-0-first-selections-robinson-williams-maye

Draft Network Fowler (29. CB Cooper DeJean:  I have a few concerns with Cooper DeJean as a man corner—a reason why he's available here—but his skill set inside a Dan Campbell defense is exciting, to say the least. Detroit needs corners, and DeJean not only can provide a boost in limiting explosive plays but is the most nuanced and physical run defender in the class as well. He'll make an impact in a variety of ways at the NFL level.) (2-19-24):  https://thedraftnetwork.com/2024/02/18/nfl-mock-draft-2024-februrary-offense

PFN Cummings (21. Detroit Lions (From MIA): Dallas Turner, EDGE, Alabama.  Trade: Lions receive No. 21 pick, Dolphins receive No. 29 pick, No. 73 pick, 2025 third-round pick.  Under Brad Holmes and Dan Campbell, the Lions have proven that they’re willing to trade up for high-upside players who can make a transformative impact on the roster.  That’s what the Lions do in this 2024 NFL Mock Draft, taking advantage of a golden opportunity to trade up for Dallas Turner: The completing piece opposite Aidan Hutchinson.  Turner has the bristling speed, explosiveness, and bend to terrorize tackles and send them lurching in recovery, but he’s also an alignment-versatile, high-motor power generator.  67. Detroit Lions (From WAS): D.J. James, CB, Auburn.  Though D.J. James is a bit lighter at around 170 pounds, he’s a fast, twitched-up, physical, technically sound CB with great ball skills and support urgency.  92. Detroit Lions: Braden Fiske, DT, Florida State.  Braden Fiske is as close to a Dan Campbell “Kneecap-Biter” as you’ll get in this class, and he also brings the burst, compact strength, and violent hands to make an impression next to Alim McNeill.  137. Detroit Lions
Mason McCormick, OG, South Dakota State.  162.  Detroit Lions
Cornelius Johnson, WR, Michigan.  206. Detroit Lions Andrew Raym, OC, Oklahoma.  246. Detroit Lions Tykee Smith, S, Georgia) (2-17-24):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/cummings-7-round-2024-nfl-mock-draft-february-17/

NFL.com Parr (29. CB Kool-Aid McKinstry:  I can hear Dan Campbell saying “Kool-Aid? Oh yeah!” when GM Brad Holmes sends this pick in. McKinstry’s game might not have a lot of flash, but he’s a well-schooled, confident cover corner who will reunite with Alabama teammate Brian Branch in the Detroit secondary.) (2-16-24):  https://www.nfl.com/news/dan-parr-2024-nfl-mock-draft-1-0

CBS Stackpole (29. CB Nate Wiggins:  If the Lions want to make their first Super Bowl appearance, they'll need their pass defense to be better. (It was third-worst in the NFL in opponent yards per pass attempt in 2023.) Nate Wiggins, with his 6-foot-2 frame and lightning speed, would be a great start toward improving the secondary.) (2-16-24):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2024-nfl-mock-draft-buccaneers-replace-baker-mayfield-as-5-qbs-go-round-1-brock-bowers-falls-outside-top-15/

Draft wire Popejoy (29. DE Laiatu Latu, UCLA:  The Lions need to add some punch as a pass rusher to go along with Aidan Hutchinson and Laiatu Latu is a great all-around pick with some nice polish to his pass-rush moves.  61. C Zach Frazier, West Virginia.) (2-15-24):  https://draftwire.usatoday.com/lists/2024-nfl-mock-draft-chiefs-bears-caleb-williams/

Draft Tek (29. DE Chop Robinson:  After a few weeks of licking their wounds at falling just short of the franchise's first-ever Super Bowl berth, Lions fans are turning to more familiar territory - scrutinizing the upcoming draft for talent infusions to get the team over the top. Among the team's key needs, Guard doesn't feel like a first-round investment, while Edge and Cornerback seem to be the leading contenders.  The Lions' D Line has some pieces, notably Aidan Hutchinson, but it needs a player or two to become a true 'get home with 4' pass rushing unit. One plausible path for GM Brad Holmes would be to add a starting corner in free agency, then draft for electric pass-rush ability on Round One.  Penn State Edge Chop Robinson is a speed rusher supreme, reminding some analysts of a bigger Micah Parsons. He has 4.47 speed and bench presses 400 pounds, all at 250+ pounds. His effort and intensity would fit into the Lions' "All Grit" culture and dramatically upgrade the team's rush depth. --Jud Branam, Lions Analyst.  61. WR Xavier Worthy.  73. OC Sedrick Van Pran.  92. S Calen Bullock.  163. CB Renardo Green.  207. RB Kimani Vidal.  247. TE Theo Johnson) (2-15-24):  https://www.drafttek.com/2024-NFL-Draft-Team-Pages/Lions-Draft-Page.asp

FTW D'Andrea (29. CB Ennis Rakestraw Jr., Missouri - Needs: CB, WR, EDGE, LB.  2023’s efforts to rebuild the cornerback room didn’t pan out the way Detroit hoped. Cameron Sutton was stable, but also allowed a 112.3 passer rating in coverage. Emmanuel Moseley’s season ended after two snaps. Jerry Jacobs struggled and stopgap measures like Khalil Dorsey, Will Harris and Kindle Vildor effectively put a giant target on the Lions’ back.  Rakestraw is here to help. The Mizzou corner has similar size issues as Wiggins thanks to a thin frame, but that didn’t prevent him from being an asset in press coverage. He can jam wideouts and the line and then run in step with them, providing a much needed asset in the Lions’ secondary.) (2-15-24):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/2024-nfl-mock-draft-super-bowl-bears-caleb-williams-drake-maye-chiefs-49ers

Yahoo Tice (29. Laiatu Latu, EDGE, UCLA:  The drop stops for Latu, whose medicals will give concerns to quite a few teams, but the Lions get more pass rushing help to combine with Aidan Hutchinson and Alim McNeill. Latu lacks ideal length and he’s just OK against the run, but his pass rushing chops are worth the trade-off. He constantly creates pressure and chaos in the backfield. Putting him on the other side of Hutchinson could create a whirlwind for quarterbacks to navigate.) Fox sports Klatt (29. CB Ennis Rakestraw:  What a great playoff run it was for the Lions, but it was clear that they needed to help their secondary. CBS Podell (29. CB Kool-Aid McKinstry:  McKinstry, a 2023 First-Team All-American, has great size at 6-1, 195 pounds. He was also reliable in coverage, not allowing a touchdown on 1,206 career coverage snaps. However, his hand technique in press man coverage could be more assertive, and some scouts have questions about his speed downfield as well as his agility in the quick passing game. A solid 40-yard dash at the NFL Scouting Combine could rocket him up draft boards. The Lions could use another strong corner opposite Cameron Sutton.) Sportskeeda Tony Pauline (29. Cooper Beebe, G, Kansas State:  Both of the Lions’ starting guards are slated for free agency, and there’s not much waiting in the wings. Troy Fautanu of Washington received serious consideration here, but Beebe is a better fit and more in the mold of Dan Campbell.) PFN Anthony Miller (29. Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia:  The second-half collapse in the NFC Championship Game should have Detroit only focus on defense in the offseason. PFF Sikkema (29. DE Darius Robinson:  I wouldn’t love Darius Robinson’s first-round fit for any team, but I can get on board with it for the Lions.  The Tigers edge rusher enjoyed a standout week at the Senior Bowl, and everything we’ve heard suggests that he is a top-50 lock. He played as an interior defensive lineman his entire college career before losing some weight and playing edge in 2023. He’s not an edge-bender, but his interior background makes him a powerful 5-tech defensive end with pass-rush potential to play opposite Aidan Hutchinson.  61. DT Braden Fiske, Florida State) (2-12-24):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-post-super-bowl-2024-nfl-mock-draft-five-quarterbacks-first-round

Draft Network Parson (29.  DE Darius Robinson:  Darius Robinson is a riser and it is well deserved. He went from playing inside to outside in 2023 and did it at a high level. He showcased everything necessary down in Mobile at the Senior Bowl. Pairing him with Aidan Hutchinson will be tough on opposing OLs.) (2-11-24):  https://thedraftnetwork.com/2024/02/11/nfl-mock-draft-2024-qb-trades

PFN Fragoza (29. Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia:  Kamari Lassiter doesn’t appear to receive the same hype as the other top CBs in the draft, but he could go much higher than 29th overall. If he doesn’t, expect Dan Campbell himself to sprint the card in.  Lassiter was flawless for Georgia last season, not allowing a single touchdown. He’ll lay his body on the line against the ground game, and he can turn and run with most WRs he’ll face.  61. WR Devontez Walker:  Devontez Walker has shades of Jalin Hyatt in his game. He’s a prototypical field stretcher, able to glide down the field and cash in with his length and ball tracking.  73. DT Ruke Orhorhoro:  Alim McNeill needs a running mate at defensive tackle, and Ruke Orhorhoro can be that and then some. He’s scheme-versatile and explosive, helping Detroit retool for another NFC title run.  92. OG Zak Zinter:  Zak Zinter has all of the intangibles you want in a lineman, and those same intangibles will endear him to head coach Dan Campbell. It also helps that he’s a bully at the line of scrimmage, especially on runs.  162. S Josh Proctor.  206. C Charles Turner.  246. NFL.com Freuland (29. DE Robinson:  The Lions' pass rush and perimeter defense are two areas of need. Detroit goes with the former in this simulation, selecting the Penn State edge rusher who boasts elite burst off the ball. Robinson's college speed -- in pads -- ranked in the eighth percentile at his position (10-season sample). Pretty sure DC Aaron Glenn wouldn't mind working with that.) PFN Reyna (29.  Quinyon Mitchell, CB, Toledo:  As the NFC title game and playoffs showed, the Lions were missing a true No. 1 cornerback.  Capable of becoming both an Aaron Glenn and Dan Campbell favorite, Quinyon Mitchell‘s stock has risen following an impressive Senior Bowl, which saw him lock up the best wideouts on the field. He’s a sticky man coverage defender with a rumored 4.3 time in the 40-yard dash and can stuff the run.) PFN Hodgkinson (29. Detroit Lions: Byron Murphy II, DT, Texas:  Dan Campbell has built the Detroit Lions in his image. A furious bunch of knee-cap biters, defensive dominance is the key to them taking the next step as a Super Bowl contender.  Adding Texas DT Byron Murphy II to their front seven gives the Lions a ludicrous behemoth who can obliterate offensive linemen with power or explosiveness as an unstoppable force.) Rakestraw's medical evaluation (torn ACL in 2021, groin surgery in December) could determine whether he cracks Round 1, but his profile fits what the Lions seek. With the likes of Chauncey Gardner-Johnson, Emmanuel Moseley, and Kindle Vildor playing on expiring contracts, there's a need for general manager Brad Holmes to address the cornerback position early. PFN Dalton Miller (30. Kalen King, CB, Penn State:  Dan Campbell, meet knee biter. Knee biter, Dan Campbell.  Now that the introductions are done, let’s get into the nitty-gritty. This isn’t an outstanding cornerback class, but injuries and one-year contracts at the position necessitate the potentiality. Kalen King‘s downhill trigger and physicality against the run and screen game more than makeup for his underwhelming size.  Harrison bullied King in their matchup, and the same will likely happen against other physical receivers at the next level. But King won’t have to face a generational prospect weekly, and his route recognition and reactionary athleticism make him a fun fit in this defense.) Yes, there are a ton of holes on defense, but I'd go with Egbuka here over any cornerback.) He’s got the speed, length and physicality to translate it to the NFL, too. If Aaron Glenn returns as the Lions defensive coordinator, outside corner is far and away the team’s biggest need.) Wide Receivers Lions Could Target in Free Agency:  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/wide-receivers-lions-target-free-agency

Agent's Take: Dak Prescott, Jordan Love and other NFL quarterbacks who can sign a lucrative deal in 2024 (Jared Goff - Jared Goff has showed he wasn't just a product of Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay's offensive system. That was the narrative when Goff was thought to be a throw-in or salary dump in a 2021 offseason trade, where the Rams acquired Matthew Stafford, because McVay felt he needed an upgrade at quarterback despite 2016's first overall pick signing a four-year contract extension, averaging $33.5 million per year, shortly before the 2019 regular season started. In addition to Goff, the Detroit Lions obtained a 2022 first-round pick, a 2023 first-round pick and a 2021 third-round pick in this trade. Goff completed 67.3% of his passes for 4,575 yards with 30 touchdowns and 12 interceptions to post a 97.9 passer rating in 2023 while the Lions had a 12-5 record to win a division title for the first time in 30 years. Goff had a career high in completion percentage, which was the NFL's seventh-best mark. He ranked second and fourth in the league, respectively, in passing yards and touchdown passes.  More importantly, the Lions advanced to the NFC Championship for the first time since the 1991 season. Goff had a measure of vindication by outdueling Stafford in a 24-23 win over the Rams in a wild-card playoff game.  Prior to losing to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC title game, reports surfaced that the Lions and Goff's camp would work on a contract extension during the offseason to make him one of the league's highest-paid players. Goff is scheduled to be paid $27,950,064 in 2024, the final year of his contract, on a $32,950,064 salary cap number. The $27,950,064 consists of a $22,950,064 2024 base salary, which includes the $975,000 in escalators Goff earned because of his 2023 performance, and a $5 million second day of the 2024 league year roster bonus due on March 14. Goff's 2023 season was statistically comparable to his 2018 campaign that led to the Rams making him the league's third-highest-paid player on par with then-Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers following a poor outing in Super Bowl LIII. In 2018, Goff connected on 64.9% of his passes for 4,688 yards with 32 touchdowns and 12 interceptions to compile a 101.1 passer rating.  Goff's camp may feel that putting him in the same place in the NFL salary hierarchy as his first extension is warranted. Jackson is the league's third-highest-paid player. He agreed to a five-year, $260 million deal, averaging $52 million per year, with the Baltimore Ravens shortly before the start of the 2023 NFL Draft last April. There are $185 million of overall guarantees in Jackson's contract where $135 million is fully guaranteed. The $135 million fully guaranteed at signing includes an NFL-record $72.5 million signing bonus.  Whether Detroit's idea of one of the NFL's highest-paid players means Goff joins Burrow, Herbert, Hurts and Jackson in the $50 million-per-year club remains to be seen. The average yearly salary of the league's 10 highest-paid players isn't that far behind. It's a little more than $48 million per year with the average contract length being 5.4 new years. The average guarantees for the top 10 are just over $181.5 million with slightly more than $131.25 million fully guaranteed at signing.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/agents-take-dak-prescott-jordan-love-and-other-nfl-quarterbacks-who-can-sign-a-lucrative-deal-in-2024/

Projecting the starting QB for all 32 NFL teams in 2024 (Detroit Lions - Who started this year? Jared Goff led the Lions to a 12-5 record and an appearance in the NFC championship game. Goff passed for 4,575 yards, 30 TDs, and 12 interceptions, and Detroit coach Dan Campbell kept offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Goff has averaged 4,086 yards, 23 TDs, and nine interceptions over the past three seasons.  Who starts in 2024? There is no reason to change things. Goff, 29, has one year left on his contract and will be a strong candidate to land an extension to stay in Detroit for the foreseeable future. Teddy Bridgewater retired, which bumps second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker up the depth chart.  Our pick: Jared Goff (10/10)):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-starting-quarterback-projections-2024/d51dfbcfaf664d25785e2fb9

NFL draft boom-or-bust prospects: Drake Maye among 11 players offering high risk, reward (Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State:  The combine numbers speak for themselves. The 6-3, 254-pounder recorded the fifth-fastest 40-yard dash time (4.48 seconds) and 10-yard split (1.54) since 2003 of any player weighing 250 pounds or more, according to Next Gen Stats and ESPN. He continued to highlight his explosiveness with a 10-8 broad jump, tied for the best mark among all edge rushers. That elite package of physical traits has some envisioning the next Micah Parsons, Robinson's predecessor at Penn State.  Naturally, that lofty comparison falls short in several areas. Robinson didn't produce at the same level that Parsons did for the Nittany Lions, recording just 9 ½ sacks in two years after transferring from Maryland. Whereas Parsons demonstrated he could disengage blockers to free himself up to make plays, Robinson still is too easily neutralized when he doesn't beat linemen instantly with his first step. Still, he has all the trappings of a double-digit sack artist. For now, however, he projects as a high-upside pass rusher who could flash on one snap and disappoint on the next.) TWENTYMAN: 10 prospects who make sense for Lions at No. 29 (2. EDGE Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Robinson had a terrific Combine, running in the 4.4s at over 250 pounds and showing he can also play in space. He's an athletic freak with the potential to be a good complement to the players the Lions have assembled opposite Pro Bowl edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson.) Insider notes on 2024 NFL Draft: Patriots' #3 pick could be for sale, Raiders split over draft choice, and latest on Kool-Aid McKinstry's stock (2024 NFL Draft: EDGE rusher ratings - There are four true edge rushers expected to be selected in the first round, including Dallas Turner, Jared Verse, Chop Robinson and Laiatu Latu. Turner will be the first one selected, and there’s a 99% chance he ends up in the top 10. The remaining three are all over boards. The edge rusher who could be drafted much earlier than anyone expects is Chop Robinson.Consistently graded as a top-15 player on my overall board, Robinson presently ranks as the 13th-best player in this draft for me. Some are concerned about the lack of production for Robinson, who has combined for 33 tackles, 15 TFLs and 8.5 sacks the past two seasons, but he only played in seven games last year after suffering a significant concussion against Ohio State and was consistently double-teamed by opponents. Teams speak highly of Robinson’s character and describe him as a phenomenal prospect who wants to do everything right.) Ranking Top 10 Players Lions Could Pick in First Round (4. Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State:  With other EDGE rushers such as Laiatu Latu, Dallas Turner and Jared Verse expected to be gone by the Lions' first-round pick, Robinson may be the best pass-rushing player available on the board. The knock on Robinson has been a lack of production, but his combine performance indicates that he's among the best athletes at the position in this year's class.  With some development in the skill department, he could develop into an unstoppable presence on the edge. The Lions brought in highly regarded Terrell Williams as their new defensive line coach, and this pairing could be fruitful for their future at the position.) NFL Draft 2024: Top 10 edge rushers, from Dallas Turner to Marshawn Kneeland (4. Chop Robinson, Penn State (6-3, 254 pounds):  Robinson, as if rushing the passer was karate, is known for having a great finishing move as the nickname suggests. He can build on his speedy, explosive style to develop into a more complete defender, too.  Draft projection: Late first-round or early second-round pick) (4-17-24):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-draft-2024-prospects-edge-rusher-rankings/b51e9a544ce6c1348b54aa65

6 hot takes leading into the 2024 NFL Draft (2. Penn State EDGE Chop Robinson is a top 5 player in the class.  Listen, I understand that I'm going to be the outlier here. Robinson ranks in the 20s based on consensus but there is one thing that Robinson has that nobody in this class does: an elite first step reminiscent of Von Miller. That's incredibly high praise but it helps him attack the quarterback and be disruptive in the running game. Whoever gets Robinson is going to be rewarded early and often.) 5 biggest X-factors in the 2024 NFL Draft: Brock Bowers, Chop Robinson and more (EDGE CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE.  Robinson might hear his name called in Round 1 of the 2024 NFL Draft next week, and that’s because what he’s good at is very valuable, even if he doesn’t yet look like a future every-down player in the NFL. He’s undersized but fast and explosive, having played just 1,021 snaps throughout his college football career. He earned PFF pass-rush grades of 92.4 and 92.3 in his two seasons at Penn State, racking up 74 total pressures from 415 pass-rushing snaps between 2022 and 2023. That pass-rushing ability is tough to teach, and it’s why an NFL team will be happy to draft Robinson relatively early this year.) NFL draft: Top defensive players on the board (Chop Robinson, 6-2, 254, Penn State - Scouting report: Freaky quickness off the line, but was more disruptive than dominant as he failed to finish plays.  Fact: Was a rotational player his first two seasons and injuries cut into his playing time last year, but had only 11 1/2 sacks and 60 total tackles in three years.  Gone by: End of the first round.) 2024 NFL Draft Stock – Post-Combine V (Up - Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State:  Along with a run on cornerbacks, there are not many edge rushers for the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, and Robinson will benefit from that weak edge class. It also helps Robinson that there are serious medical concerns with UCLA defensive end Laiatu Latu. Robinson has interviewed well plus been a workout warrior. With a number of teams in the 20s needing edge-rush help, Robinson has a real shot to be selected on the opening night of the 2024 NFL Draft.) 2024 All-Juice Team: 10th annual edition hopes to be as successful as Terez Paylor's first (Edge: Chop Robinson, Penn State.  After playing one season at Maryland, Robinson transferred to Penn State and immediately unlocked his considerable talent. Talent evaluators raved about the array of tools he has shown despite still being extremely young (he turned 21 in January), particularly his speed off the edge. One NFC evaluator called him “a freak and he hasn’t even scratched the surface,” while an AFC scout said Robinson’s size, speed and potential versatility in the right scheme could compare favorably to another Penn State great: Micah Parsons.  Said the AFC scout: “If he’d stayed another year and took the jump that he’s already kind of showing, he might be a top-five [draft] pick in that [2025] class. Now I think he’s a guy that five years from now we look back at this draft and maybe he ends up being the best defensive player on the board.”) (4-15-24):  https://sports.yahoo.com/2024-all-juice-team-10th-annual-edition-hopes-to-be-as-successful-as-terez-paylors-first-140023345.html

2024 NFL Draft EDGE rankings & analysis (4: Chop Robinson, Penn State:  The four-star Gaithersburg, MD product originally attended his home-state school of Maryland in 2021, contributing 263 snaps at off-ball linebacker in 13 games before transferring to Penn State as a sophomore where he moved back to his natural position, EDGE. Despite not starting a game for PSU’s ultra-deep defensive line group, Robinson logged 455 snaps with 48 pressures, 10.0 TFL and 5.5 sacks to go with a sensational 91st percentile PFF overall grade in 2022. Robinson was ready to ascend in Happy Valley this season, and he did so by recording his second consecutive season with 90th percentile pass rushing and overall grades. He led PSU with 12 stops despite ranking 11th on the team with 294 snaps due to injury. His 18% pressure rate was elite, bolstered by his blistering 2.28-seconds average time to first pressure. Robinson also made huge strides by slashing his 2022 missed tackle rate of 26.7% (ninth-highest MTF rate among 2022 EDGEs) to an excellent 7.1% missed tackle rate that was the eighth-lowest nationally amongst his EDGE rusher contemporaries.  Robinson put on a show on the Indianapolis track, running an astounding 4.48s 40-yard dash (99.5th%) with a 1.53s 10-yard split (99.5th%). He followed that up with a 4.25s shuttle run (92nd%) and 10’08” broad (99th%) for a sparkling 9.72 Relative Athletic Score.  As is indicated from his supernatural track speed, Chop is a demon running the loop and displays an array of counters to free himself up so he can make a run at the quarterback. He likes to line up wide when possible to give him a sharper angle to setup a crossface counter. Does a great job getting low when engaging blockers on run downs, but has a tendency to almost get “too low” when bending the EDGE, causing him to lose footing and get sprawled on by opposing tackles. Robinson profiles as a potential cornerstone speed-EDGE prospect whose physical profile reminds me of Nik Bonitto.) 2024 NFL Draft: The top-10 edge defender prospects if everyone in college football was eligible (7. CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE, 2024 - Robinson is the most athletic edge defender in the draft, testing out as a 97th percentile athlete for the position according to Kent Lee Platte’s Relative Athletic Score. And while the raw sack totals might not show it, he’s also been a very productive pass-rusher. Robinson’s 21.7% pass-rush win rate is third among Power Five edge defenders since 2022.  He still wins too much off of his athleticism and will need some serious polish in order to reach his potential, but there’s no denying that his ceiling is as high as almost anyone in this class.) 2024 NFL Draft Top 10 Edge Rushers: Dallas Turner ranks as top dog, Chop Robinson, Laiatu Latu ones to keep an eye on (3. Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Robinson was a disruptive force whose athleticism, quickness and ability to play with leverage gave him a significant advantage over opponents. He was an effective pass rusher who also showed the ability to make plays in space, and Robinson offers potential standing over tackle or coming out of a three-point stance on Sundays.Chop Robinson draft projection: mid first round) (4-9-24):  https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/2024-nfl-draft-top-10-edge-rushers-dallas-turner-ranks-top-dog-chop-robinson-laiatu-latu-ones-keep-eye

Detroit Lions 2024 NFL Draft First-Round Big Board (No. 29 overall - EDGE Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Robinson is an extremely athletic player who has the talent and pass-rush repertoire to be a difference-maker. He doesn't have as much proven production, but the intangible traits that he has make him worth taking a chance on.) (4-8-24):  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/first-round-lions-2024-big-board

2024 NFL Draft Position Rankings: Edge defenders (5. ED CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE - PFF BIG BOARD RANK: 43.  Regardless of his lack of polish, Robinson is a gifted player athletically — likely on a level that is top of the class. A lot of what leaves you wanting more from Robinson is coachable. Unlocking that is the key for him to go from a boom-or-bust athlete to a dominant edge defender.) 2024 NFL Draft preview: 5 edge rushers that could interest Lions (4. Chop Robinson, Penn State - 6-3, 254. 4.48 40-yard dash (1.54 10-yard split).  Why didn't his super athletic traits translate to more production at Penn State? That's the question NFL talent evaluators are asking themselves when it comes to evaluating Robinson. He had 9.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss the last two seasons combined. Robinson is a twitchy and explosive rusher who has a high ceiling once he increases his toolbox of rush moves and gets to a team that has a plan for him.) Five likeliest draft picks for Lions at No. 29 (4. Chop Robinson, defensive end, Penn State: +800 odds, 11.1 percent chance:  It's hard to find anyone who objects to the idea of the Lions adding Robinson, who could form an explosive pass-rushing duo with Aidan Hutchinson. He's a bit raw and his numbers at Penn State -- 9.5 sacks, 17.5 tackles for loss in two seasons -- don't jump off the page, but there's no doubting his physical traits and athleticism. Robinson, who ranked sixth among FBS edge defenders last season per PFF, has drawn comparisons to Micah Parsons and could develop into one of the most destructive defensive players in the NFL.) 2024 NFL Draft: Top 5 players at each defensive position (5. ED CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE) (3-27-24):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-draft-top-5-players-at-each-defensive-position

Meet the Prospect: Chop Robinson (3-27-24):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/meet-the-prospect-chop-robinson

2024 NFL Draft: 6 boom-or-bust prospects (EDGE CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE:  Robinson is incredibly talented. The 6-foot-3, 255-pound defensive end turned heads at the NFL scouting combine by placing in the 95th percentile or above in the 10-yard split, 40-yard dash and broad jump. He was also an 84th-percentile athlete in the short shuttle.  Yet, Robinson's production over the past few seasons was less than stellar, including only 5 1/2 sacks in 2022 and four sacks in 2023. Now, he did earn PFF pass-rushing grades of 92.4 and 92.3 in each of the past two seasons with 20.0%-plus pass-rush win rates, which is very impressive. The risk here stems from Robinson's lack of length, both in his legs and his arms, and how that projects to the next level. His wingspan ranks in the 5th percentile for edge rushers, and his stride length doesn’t cover much ground at the snap, even with his explosiveness.  Robinson wins primarily off athleticism right now, which is tough to do in the NFL. His athletic gifts suggest he should be drafted in the top 10, but some of the physical concerns have him going later in mock drafts.) (3-26-24):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-draft-boom-or-bust-prospects

Fantasy Football: Analytical spotlight on the top 2024 rookie edge defenders (CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE - No. 5 ranked EDGE on the PFF big board.  97th percentile prospect profile among college EDGE prospects since 2016.  Robinson’s high-end pass-rush metrics propel him near the top of this model, putting him among the elite players at the position, with an argument to be made for him as a first-round pick. He is currently projected to go in the early part of the second round, but with his 97th percentile score, he would be the only edge defender who scored 94th percentile and above to not go in the first round.  Robinson’s ability to win with explosiveness and a quick first step make him a standout in the PFF grading system as his high-quality/quick wins are always going to grade better than second-effort or later wins. This is highlighted in Robinson’s greatest strength — quick pressure rate. He scored in the 98th percentile in this metric, just behind Nick Bosa and standout Michigan pass rusher Josh Uche, and just ahead of Chase Young and a top prospect in this year’s class, Laiatu Latu.  Robinson’s career college analytics strengths:  Rank among EDGE prospects since 2016.  Pass-rush grade 93.4 97th percentile.  Pressure rate 18.5% 93rd percentile.  Quick pressure rate 16.0% 98th percentile.  Win rate 20.2% 87th percentile.  Robinson completes the trend of all five of the top edge defenders scoring lower in run defense categories, which could ultimately hurt this class in becoming every-down players from the get-go. Robinson’s high-end pass-rush metrics are ultimately going to be the reason he is drafted however high he gets drafted, and if he continues to develop more of a pass-rush repertoire then he’ll become all the more effective at the NFL level.  Robinson’s college analytics weaknesses:  Rank among EDGE prospects since 2016 - Run defense grade 74.2 40th percentile.  Best single-season run defense grade 76.3 38th percentile) (3-20-24):  https://www.pff.com/news/fantasy-football-analytical-spotlight-on-the-top-2024-rookie-edge-defenders

5 thoughts on the 2024 NFL draft with 5 weeks to go (Chop Robinson – Fashanu’s Nittany Lions teammate might have an even broader draft range. Chop lit up the combine with an incredible athletic display, but that was expected. His lack of length and weirdly low sack total for such a pressure-creating machine in college make Robinson a tough prospect to slot. He seems clearly behind Dallas Turner, Jared Verse and Laiatu Latu in the EDGE pecking order, which pushes him into the 20s at the earliest. Then again, athletes like him don’t come around very often and teams in the teens could find that impossible to resist.) (3-21-24):  https://draftwire.usatoday.com/lists/5-thoughts-on-the-2024-nfl-draft-with-5-weeks-to-go/

2024 NFL Draft edge rusher rankings: 4 potential stars lead our top 10 (4. Chop Robinson, Penn State, 6-3, 254, Junior - Overview: Robinson began his college career with his home-state Maryland Terrapins as a four-star recruit, flashing as a true freshman with 19 tackles, including 2.5 for loss and two sacks. He opted to transfer to Penn State prior to his sophomore season and splashed, recording what would be career-highs in tackles (26), tackles for loss (10) and sacks (5.5). A concussion suffered against Ohio State limited Robinson to 10 games in 2023 and his statistics dropped (15-7.5-4) but he received favorable feedback from the NFL Advisory Committee and opted to make the early jump to the pros, anyway.  Strengths - As twitchy as it gets, with the best first step of this year's class.  Complements the sheer explosiveness of his initial rush by coming off the ball low and hard, effectively turning his speed to power.  Impressive balance and agility, easily shifting directions and closing in a blink.  Long arms and good hand-eye coordination to lasso the legs of ballcarriers or poke the ball free (three forced fumbles).  Concerns - Undersized with a relatively slight frame including narrow shoulders and hips and already has a history of injury.  Reliant upon his suddenness to beat blockers and can get taken for a ride when he mistimes the snap and they're able to latch on.  Gets into the backfield so quickly that he runs by as many plays as he makes.  Summary: Robinson explodes off the ball like he has springs in his shoes — a trait so appealing to NFL teams that an early first-round pick is possible. While the splash is undeniable, the lack of statistics are worrisome. In a position group full of boom-or-bust prospects, Robinson is the biggest lottery ticket of them all.  Grade: First Round) (3-20-24):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/2024-nfl-draft-edge-rusher-rankings-4-potential-stars-lead-our-top-10

2024 NFL Draft: Best draft fits for every role along the defensive line and DL rankings (PASS-RUSH SPECIALIST: CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE - Chop Robinson is the most visibly explosive and quick-twitch athlete of the top defensive line prospects, and he is perhaps the most likely to fit early into a situational role at the NFL level, even if he eventually becomes more than that. He recorded a 93.1 PFF pass-rushing grade this past season against true pass sets.  Some of his best plays come from that wide-nine alignment favored by defenses in obvious pass situations, and that’s where he may enjoy his biggest success early in his NFL career.) 2024 NFL Scouting Combine winners and losers by the numbers: Defense (EDGE CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE - Outlier stat: 4.48-second 40-yard dash at 254 pounds.  Robinson was one of the top testers in Indianapolis, but it almost didn’t feel that way due to how expected it was. For the last two years, we have watched the tape and heard Robinson's weight room reports, so we figured he would test very well. He absolutely did with a 4.48-second 40-yard dash, 34.5-inch vertical and 10-foot-8 broad jump at 254 pounds. His explosiveness-size combo makes him an outlier in a great way.) Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State:  Overlooking his pedestrian production (9 ½ sacks in the last two years) will be easier for teams after Robinson showcased his rare explosiveness. At 4.48 seconds, his 40-yard dash time was the fifth-best mark since 2003 of any pass rusher weighing more than 250 pounds, according to Next Gen Stats. Between his rapid burst and elastic bend, Robinson sizes up a serious threat for any offensive tackle if he's given any runway. Edge rusher is one spot where premium traits are particularly highly rewarded, and Robinson now might have a solid shot at squeezing into the first round.) 5 winners (Caleb Williams!) and losers (pass rush-needy teams) from the 2024 NFL combine (2.  Loser: Any team seeking high-end pass-rush talent without a premium pick.  Penn State’s Chop Robinson has tantalizing athleticism and quickness, but there still needs to be proof in the pudding.) (3-4-24):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-combine-winners-losers-caleb-williams-joe-alt-dallas-turner-chargers

3 Lions thoughts from the NFL Scouting Combine (Intangibles still rule:  This also isn’t considered an elite pass rusher group, but guys like Penn State’s Chop Robinson and Missouri’s Darius Robinson seem like Lions fits that are projected for the back-half of the first round.) 2024 NFL Scouting Combine: Stock report for every position (STOCK UP: CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE - Robinson entered the season as a projected first-round prospect but saw his stock start to slip despite still performing at an elite level (90.8 PFF grade in 2023). Following an elite performance at the combine, it’s possible that Robinson cemented his status as a top-32 pick. Both his 40-yard dash (4.48 seconds) and 10-yard split (1.54 seconds) ranked in the 98th percentile for edge defenders. Robinson’s 10-foot-8 broad jump was also in the 95th percentile among all edge defenders while his 4.25-second 20-yard shuttle was in the 85th percentile.) Highs and Lows of Penn State's Week at the NFL Combine (For Better - Chop Robinson:  The defensive end arrived in Indianapolis having plateaued in some NFL Draft mocks. One analyst graded Robinson out of the first round. But Robinson shined at the combine, generating a RAS score of 9.69 that was second among defensive ends. Robinson ran an official 4.48 in the 40, a killer time for a 254-pound lineman, and showed the explosiveness he'll use in the NFL.) Roundtable: Jameson Williams Expectations, Combine Takeaways (3. What one combine prospect impressed you the most on both offense and defense?  Booher: For defense, it was Quinyon Mitchell. NFL Combine 2024 winners & losers: Michael Penix, Xavier Worthy among those who impressed (Winners - Chop Robinson and Laiatu Latu:  Robinson put together a great all-around performance at the 2024 NFL Combine. He ran the second-fastest 40-yard dash among edge rushers (4.48 seconds) and looked excellent during the on-field drills.  Robinson showed particularly well in the hoops drill, which is designed to measure how well pass rushers can bend and change direction to get by offensive tackles. He demonstrated great body control and made a near-perfect figure-8 while running the drill.  Latu had similar success in the on-field drills, looking poised, polished and smooth across all of them. He wasn't quite as fast as Robinson — Latu logged a 4.64-second 40-yard dash — but like the Penn State product, Latu was excellent in the hoops drill and showed fluid movement skills when performing the four-bag drills.  Latu also demonstrated great character and stayed past his session at the NFL Combine to cheer on his teammates and counterparts participating in the linebacker drills. That will endear him to talent evaluators trying to break ties between himself, Jared Verse and Robinson in the middle portion of the first round.  Both Robinson and Latu established that they should be first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. They have the athleticism and technique needed to thrive early during their NFL careers, and that was on display during their workouts on Thursday.) NFL Hot Press: Combine Interview Feedback Part II (Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson is very similar to Turner. Robinson also had a blistering 40-yard dash time and worked out extremely well. Also like the Alabama standout, Robinson showed teams that he is a great kid with good character. Robinson interviewed well in Indianapolis. That along with his workout could help Robinson to receive more consideration for teams late in the first round and early in the second round of the 2024 NFL Draft.) NFL Combine 2024 risers and fallers: Payton Wilson, Chop Robinson among defensive standouts (Stock Rising - Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State:  Chop Robinson put an exclamation point on his case to be a first round selection, running a blistering 4.48s 40-yard dash (99.6th percentile) with a 1.54s split (99.2nd percentile) and a 4.25s shuttle (91st percentile) at 6-2, 254 pounds. Though Chop’s sack numbers haven’t been as prolific as one would like to see from a first-round EDGE prospect, he has been a consistent backfield presence over the last two campaigns, generating an 18% pressure rate to go with 92nd percentile pass rush grades from PFF in each. Along with Alabama EDGE Dallas Turner, Chop has punched his ticket as a top-flight athletic DE/OLB specimen.) NFL Combine measurements: EDGE/DL winners, losers (EDGE losers - Chop Robinson: Robinson's wingspan and arm lengths were among the lowest-recorded at the combine since 1999. That said, Robinson's measurements are similar to the ones of former Pro Bowl pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue from 2016, but Robinson is slated to perform better than Ngakoue when it comes to the 40-yard dash.) 2024 NFL Combine insider notes: Edge rushers make their presence known (3. Chop Robinson/DE/Penn State:  This past Monday, I wrote that Robinson was ready to tear up the combine, and that’s exactly what he did. The junior from Penn State measured 6-foot-3, 254 pounds then timed 4.48 seconds in the 40 with an astounding 10-yard split of 1.54 seconds. Both times are terrific for a running back, never mind a defensive end. Robinson touched 34.5 inches in the vertical jump and 10-foot-8-inches in the broad jump, another pair of terrific marks. His time of 4.25 seconds in the short shuttle is something most defensive backs aspire to. He looked exceedingly athletic during position drills. Robinson was incredibly fast in hoop drills and fluid during pass coverage drills. It was a “wow” performance by Robinson and the type of workout that cements him as a top 18-pick in the draft.) (3-1-24):  https://www.sportskeeda.com/nfl/news-2024-nfl-combine-insider-notes-edge-rushers-make-presence-known

NFL Combine results: 10 standouts from the edge rusher group (Chop Robinson, Penn State (6-foot-3, 254 pounds):  Robinson is as big and fast as advertised, running a 4.48 40-yard dash and exploding off the line in every drill. There were still a few technique issues—as we see on the football field as well—but he looked like arguably the most athletic player on the field. The biggest disappointment for Robinson was his arm length came in at 32.5 inches, well under what teams prefer. And when you combine undersized arm length with poor technique, it gives him a few more obstacles to overcome.) 2024 NFL Combine Stock Report – Defensive Ends (Up - Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State:  Chop Robinson wasn’t the most consistent producer on the field during his time at Penn State, so he needed a great combine performance to help his draft stock. Robinson delivered with some great numbers. He ran 4.48 40 with an electric 1.54 10-yard split. He also notched 34.5 inches in the vertical and 10-8 in the broad jump.) 2024 NFL Scouting Combine: Biggest Winners from Day 1 (EDGE Chop Robinson, Penn State - The film already told us that Robinson was arguably the most explosive edge rusher in this year's class, and his performance during Thursday's workouts back up that assessment.  There's still some room for improvement in Robinson's game when it comes to defending the run, but his athleticism, explosiveness, and pass-rushing technique should make him a first-round lock and a potential top-15 pick.) 2024 Scouting Combine: Which DL, EDGE, and LB helped themselves the most? (Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State:  Robinson saw his 2023 campaign interrupted to a point by injury, but he still put up three sacks, five quarterback hits, and 18 quarterback hurries in his second season with the Nittany Lions after one season with Maryland. Robinson is a speed-rusher above all, so his 40-yard dash and 10-yard split were going to be prime viewing for NFL personnel people. Robinson did not disappoint, finishing second behind Alabama’s Dallas Turner among all edge defenders with a 4.48 40-yard dash, and tying with Turner for the lead with a 1.54-second 10-yard split. He also tied with Houston Christian’s Jalyx Hunt for the longest broad jump at 10’8″.) Combine Day 1 stock watch (Stock Up - Chop Robinson Penn State - Robinson needed to show off his athleticism at the combine after posting middling production at Penn State (9.5 sacks in two seasons). His 4.48-second 40 (with a 1.54 10-yard split) was impressive, especially at 254 pounds. His agility in drills also provided a look at his potential as a scheme-versatile edge rusher. Robinson's ability to turn around the bags and cones during drills portend an ability to win against NFL offensive tackles. His average height (6-2 7/8) and length (32 1/2-inch arm, 76 1/4-inch wingspan) might still be an obstacle for him against bigger blockers.) He didn't quite hit those jumps, but did record a 34.5-inch vertical with a 10-foot-8 broad jump. He also ran a 4.48 40-yard dash while weighing 254 pounds. Those kinds of numbers will keep him firmly in the first-round conversation.) What We Learned in Indy: Rising DT puts on a SHOW (2. Chop flies. Chop Robinson sliced through the 40-yard dash competition among the defensive linemen on Friday. Penn State's 6-2 7/8, 254-pound pass rusher recorded an official 40-yard dash time of 4.48 seconds, the best among the defensive line group. Robinson opted not to run a second 40. The next-fastest time was from Colorado State edge rusher Mohamed Kamara at 4.57 seconds, followed by Florida State edge rusher Jared Verse at 4.58. Robinson also turned in a respectable result in the vertical jump (34 1/2 inches) and a strong number in the broad jump -- 10-foot-8, which tied for the top DL number with Houston Christian edge rusher Jalyx Hunt. Robinson's numbers actually fell short of his stated goals of an 11-foot broad jump and a vertical jump of 38 to 40 inches. But you'd be hard-pressed to say it was a disappointing day for Chop. We knew he was an elite athlete, and he proved it, becoming the second player in the last 20 combines to run a sub-4.5 40 and post a broad jump of at least 10-foot-6 after weighing in at 250-plus pounds. The only other player to do so was former 49ers tight end Vernon Davis in 2006. In a draft class that lacks a lot of clear-cut, blue-chip defensive prospects, Robinson's strong showing can only help his cause in April.) (2-29-24):  https://www.nfl.com/news/2024-nfl-scouting-combine-what-we-learned-during-thursday-s-activities-in-indianapolis

DE Chop Robinson, WR Roman Wilson lead prospects to watch in combine drills (Defensive player most likely to stand out: Penn State edge Chop Robinson - Feldman, who writes the annual "Freaks List" of the most jaw-dropping athletes in college football for The Athletic, shared that Robinson is his top guy from this past year's list who's in Indianapolis, comparing him to a former Penn State standout edge rusher.   "He's a guy who'll test exceptionally well," Feldman said of Robinson. "There's a lot of comparisons, physically, to Micah Parsons. Going into the year, a lot of people looked at him as a top-15 caliber pick, whereas coming out of the season, I think there were some questions. Is he a first-round pick? Is he a mid-second? Where is he?"  While Penn State's defense was one of the best in the country, Robinson didn't put up amazing stats. He recorded only 15 total tackles, four sacks and two forced fumbles in 10 games.   But Feldman believes Robinson could elevate his stock this weekend to the point where he hears his name called on Day 1 of the draft.  "If he comes into Indy and does not only what he thinks he's going to do, but what some of the people around him in the training process over the last couple of weeks think he's going to … he's going to be hard to pass up in the first round," Feldman said. "If he's 6-foot-3 and 250, 255 [pounds], he's running a 4.4 40, broad jumping 11 feet and vertical jumping 40 inches. Guys like that, consistency is a question mark, but there's definitely stuff on film where you're like, ‘OK, that matches the numbers, now what happens?'   "He can be an impact guy in that way. If he proves he's that special athletically and traits-wise, I think he has a chance to really jump up where people think he is now."  FOX NFL Draft analyst Rob Rang has Robinson as his 37th-best overall prospect in the draft. FOX Sports lead college football analyst Joel Klatt has Robinson being selected by the Arizona Cardinals with the 27th-overall pick in his first mock draft.) Defensive Linemen Capable of Rising Up Lions' Draft Board (Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Robinson, standing in at 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, seems like he has exactly what it takes to play for Dan Campbell. Equipped with a high-end motor, he seemingly never took a play off during his time at Penn State.    Additionally, he's gifted with an explosive first step that makes him a tough assignment for opposing offensive linemen.  Robinson, who spent a lone campaign at Maryland before transferring to Penn State, posted 60 total tackles, including 20 for loss, 11.5 sacks and three forced fumbles in three collegiate seasons.  In each of his two seasons with the Nittany Lions, he earned Pro Football Focus overall marks north of 90.0 (90.6 in 2022 and 90.8 in 2023). He also amassed an impressive 52 quarterback hurries in 22 career games at Penn State.  Meanwhile, in his final campaign in Happy Valley, he earned first-team All-Big Ten honors, and received a 92.3 pass-rush grade from PFF. Robinson would provide the Lions with a perfect EDGE complement to Hutchinson, a fellow Big Ten product.) NFL Hot Press: Teams Could Move up for Edge Rushers (Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson is also on the bubble between Rounds 1 and 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft. Many teams graded Robinson in the second round, but if he works out well, that could push him up. Sources said Robinson is a good kid whose character evaluation will help him in the pre-draft meetings with the coaches involved. Right now though, only Turner, Latu and Verse are viewed as definite first-rounders.) (2-28-24):  https://walterfootball.com/nfl-hot-press-teams-could-move-up-for-edge-rushers.php

What We Learned from DL/LB pressers (4. The origin of Chop (and Plump). One of Thursday's most anticipated workouts will be that of Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson, whose freakish athletic ability is well-documented. At 255 pounds, he said his goal is to run a 4.4-second 40-yard dash, post a broad jump of 11 feet and leap 38 to 40 inches in the vertical.  All of those marks would place him among the top combine performers in modern history at his position.  Not bad for a guy who was once given the nickname "Plump" by family members.  "My household nickname is Plump, but nobody knows that," he said on Wednesday.  In fact, Robinson is a man of at least a few names. His first name is Demeioun, but he said the only time anyone ever calls him by that name is if he's in trouble. As for how he came to be known as Chop, that story dates to his birth.  "I was 14 pounds when I was born and my mom gave me the nickname Pork Chop," Robinson said. "But then, once I got older, I started to slim down and I couldn't have people calling me Pork Chop anymore because I wasn't big, so I just kept the Chop."  A lot more people might become familiar with his name if he puts on a show during his workout Thursday. -- Dan Parr) (2-28-24):  https://www.nfl.com/news/2024-nfl-scouting-combine-what-we-learned-during-wednesday-s-activities-in-indianapolis

Two EDGE prospects that could interest Lions at Combine (Another interesting edge prospect is Penn State's Chop Robinson, who could end his week in Indianapolis being one of the big risers because of his athletic traits. At 6-foot-3, 250 pounds, Chop Robinson has drawn some comparisons to Dallas' Micah Parsons in terms of his football traits.  He said Tuesday at the Combine he expects to r pplun the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds, record over an 11-foot broad jump and have a vertical in the 38-to-40-inch range.  "I definitely say my bend," Chop Robinson said Tuesday when asked what trait besides his speed will stick out to teams. "Being able to dip my shoulders and use my hands and still use my speed."  He also wants to show his speed to power. The big question with Robinson, and one of the reasons he's considered a later pick in the first round, is a lack of sack production. He had 4.0 sacks this season and 5.5 in 2022. He'll be an interesting evaluation coming out of Indy.) (2-28-24):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/two-edge-prospects-that-could-interest-lions-at-combine-robinson

2024 NFL Draft: Predicting the NFL scouting combine’s top performers (Edge Chop Robinson, Penn State: Given his size, it won’t be a surprise for Robinson to run in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash, and he has the explosiveness that could help him produce eye-popping numbers in the broad and vertical jumps.  Robinson has the pass-rushing chops to be a top draft pick. He has put up PFF pass-rush grades of 92.4 and 92.3 in the last two seasons, but there are still concerns about his ability to be an every-down player.  With his size, it won’t be a surprise for him to run in the 4.4 range in the 40-yard dash, and he has the explosiveness that could help him produce eye-popping numbers in the broad and vertical jumps.) 2024 NFL Combine notes: Taylor Swift and $255.4 million salary cap, AFC rival's hunt for L’Jarius Sneed and more (Chop Robinson ready to blow up the NFL Combine:  Earlier this week, I mentioned Illinois’ Tip Reiman as a prospect who is expected to blow the doors off the combine with great testing numbers. There’s another Big Ten prospect people will be talking about once combine workouts are complete.  I’m told Penn State defensive end/edge rusher Chop Robinson is expected to put up Olympian numbers. Robinson, presently graded as the No. 16 prospect on my overall big board, has been running the 40 in the 4.4 seconds and hitting 40 inches in the vertical jump.  Some believe Robinson will be selected in the bottom third of Round 1, and I’ve always had him in the middle of the frame. NFL Combine preview: 10 edge rushers the Lions should watch (Chop Robinson, Penn State (6-foot-3, 255 pounds):  Chop Robinson is quite possibly the freakiest athlete in this draft class and is expected to light up the Combine. From a purely athletic standpoint, the comparisons to former teammate Micah Parsons are lofty, as that’s a big hill to climb. Right now, Robinson is winning almost solely on his traits and does not have a ton of polish to his game, resulting in lackluster production compared to his potential. Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State:  The traits almost all scream top-10 pick, with his explosiveness and 6-3, 255-pound frame earning him comparisons to former Nittany Lions standout Micah Parsons. The production, however, never quite amounted to what one expected from a premier pass rusher. 2024 NFL combine: Detroit Lions could use another pass rusher and DL help (Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State: The standout pass rusher should be one of the top headline-grabbers at the combine. Chop Robinson is touted for a sub-4.5-second 40-yard dash time, and elite broad jump and bench press numbers. And Robinson packs a punch at 6-foot-3, 250 pounds with 20 tackles for loss and 11.5 sacks across three years in the Big Ten between Penn State and Maryland. The athletic disruptor won 20.9% of his pass rushes and should have the attention of teams seeking help for the defensive edges, such as the Lions.) Brooks: 10 prospects who could climb draft boards (Chop Robinson:  The best pass rushers in the NFL routinely display elite first-step quickness and closing bursts. Robinson (whom I have ranked fourth among edge defenders) grades out as an A-plus athlete, with his cat-like quickness and explosive finishes jumping off the tape. Though Robinson's supreme athleticism did not translate into elite production as a collegian (he totaled 10.5 career sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss in two seasons at Penn State and one at Maryland), the Penn State product is an intriguing developmental prospect, due to his explosiveness and non-stop motor. While his game has a "boom or bust" feel, the junior is one of the best athletes at his position, which could enhance his value in meeting rooms; his upside and potential could tempt a coach to take a chance on him.) Could Lions trade up in draft? Daniel Jeremiah identifies three targets for Detroit (Jeremiah said that if the Lions stick and pick at No. 29, Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson likely comes into the discussion. He has the traits to form a dominant pass-rushing duo with Hutchinson.) 2024 Combine preview: Edge rusher (5. Chop Robinson, Penn State, 6-3, 255. Robinson might be the most physically gifted of the pass rushers in this class. His explosiveness and speed have drawn some comparisons to Micah Parsons, but he didn't have the college production Parsons did. NFL evaluators will have to study the tape to determine why. He tallied a lot of pressure but just 9.5 sacks combined the last two seasons.) (2-21-24):  https://www.detroitlions.com/news/2024-combine-preview-edge-rusher-turner-latu-verse

6 Edge Rushers Lions Should Watch at NFL Combine (Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Another versatile prospect is Robinson, who showed a strong knack for pressuring the quarterback while at Penn State last season. He was able to handle defensive end responsibilities and caused havoc for opponents in the Big 10.  After a year at Maryland, Robinson transferred to Penn State and was a key cog in one of the league's best defenses. He logged 26 pressures in 10 games last season while earning a 92.3 PFF pass-rush grade.  Robinson is billed as a high-level athlete, so he could fare very well at the Combine. He was a solid rusher, but will need to continue improving his discipline against the run. There's potential for him to be a standout, but diversifying his strengths in the ground game is the next step for him as he enters the NFL. ) (2-20-24):  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/edge-rushers-lions-watch-nfl-combine

NFL Combine 2024: 5 EDGEs Who Can Raise NFL Draft Stock (CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE - Chop Robinson is among the most athletic edge defenders in the 2024 NFL Draft and that statement should receive validation at the NFL Combine. Robinson is an incredibly explosive quarterback hunter with rare speed, great strength, and terrific agility. Robinson pairs initial quickness with relentless effort and pursuit.  Robinson ran a 4.47 in the 40-yard dash before the 2023 campaign, according to Bruce Feldman's ‘Freaks List.’ Robinson also ran a shuttle of 4.22, had a 10-foot-7 broad jump, and bench-pressed 400 pounds. All of those numbers have likely improved through Robinson's pre-draft training circuit. Robinson will solidify first-round status in Indianapolis.) Penn State's players heading to the 2024 NFL combine (Chop Robinson, defensive end:  Penn State defensive end Chop Robinson is projected by a number of draft experts to go in the first round, although in the back half of the first round so it is still a bit of a toss-up. Robinson can probably lock down his first-round status with a good showing at the combine, but any slight struggles compared to other defensive ends at the combine could lead to falling into the second round for Robinson. There will be much at stake for Robinson at this combine.) (2-13-24):  https://nittanylionswire.usatoday.com/lists/here-are-all-10-of-penn-states-2024-nfl-combine-invitees/

2024 NFL Draft Edge Rushers top 5 rankings 1.0 (2. Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State:  One of the best athletes at his position and with a merciless pass rush, Penn State’s Chop Robinson has earned himself one of the best names for the position.  Robinson’s eccentric and explosive pass rushing skills are going to launch him up draft boards, especially if he tests as expected during the pre-draft process. While he may lack an extensive pass rushing toolbox, Robinson is going to develop into a dangerous quarterback hunter with the right coaching.) Top EDGEs in the 2024 NFL Draft: Ranking Dallas Turner, Laiatu Latu, Jared Verse, and Others (3. Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Demeioun Robinson — better known by his very fitting nickname “Chop” — is a prospect we can reliably project near the top of the 2024 NFL Draft EDGE class. He might not have the elite length that other prospects possess, but with 9.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss over the past 22 games, Robinson has proven himself a disruptive force across the line.  At 6’3″ and 254 pounds, he’s a hyperdense maniac with bristling explosiveness and searing bend. BIG BOARD RANK: 50.  Robinson is the most twitched-up pass-rusher in the 2024 class. ESPN reported on Dec. 5 that Robinson had declared for the NFL Draft and was skipping the Peach Bowl.  Robinson had four sacks in 2024, along with 15 tackles. NFL Draft: Position-by-position scouting report of early entries (Demeioun "Chop" Robinson, Penn State: Robinson will be a fascinating evaluation for scouts, as he offers better traits than production at this point, heading to the NFL early after a 2023 campaign in which he registered just four sacks. The Maryland transfer is among the quickest off the ball of any pass rusher in the country, showing the ability to convert speed into power to bulldoze blockers nearly 100 pounds heavier than him. Robinson's calling card, however, is his get-off speed and flexibility to wrap the corner, projecting as a pass-rush specialist in much the same mold as former Terrapin Yannick Ngakoue. Grade: second round) (12-21-23):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/college-football/nfl-draft-position-by-position-scouting-report-of-early-entries

Penn State’s Olu Fashanu, Chop Robinson recognized as All-Americans (Robinson was one of six edge rushers recognized by the AP, joining UCLA’s Laiatu Latu, James Madison’s Jalen Green, Utah’s Jonah Elliss, Florida State’s Jared Verse and Washington’s Bralen Trice.  Robinson also has a chance to land in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft. Robinson, a first-team All-Big Ten pick, was a fixture on the front four the last two seasons. The former five-star prospect transferred to Penn State ahead of the 2022 season after one year at Maryland. Robinson was a handful for opposing offenses to deal with upon arrival.  Robinson used his speed, strength and motor to accumulate 17 1/2 tackles for loss and 9 1/2 sacks in 22 appearances. Robinson’s 20.8% pass rush win rate — which measures how often a pass rusher beats their blocker within 2.5 seconds — ranked tied for eighth nationally, per Pro Football Focus. And his tape was even more impressive than his stats.  If Robinson lands in the first round, he would be the third Penn State defensive player to do so in the James Franklin era, joining Micah Parsons (2021) and Odafe Oweh (2021).) Lions draft: 10 early candidates to be Detroit's 1st-round pick in 2024 (Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State:  Robinson was once seen as a potential top-10 pick, but he hasn’t played to that level in 2023. The freakish athleticism for a 250-pound pass rusher is evident, and his speed around the edge calls to mind former Nittany Lion Micah Parsons. Robinson’s work in shedding blocks and finishing plays needs some refinement, but the potential for an impact pass rusher is certainly there in the Maryland transfer. The always-hot motor holds real appeal for Detroit.) (11-18-23):  https://lionswire.usatoday.com/lists/lions-draft-10-early-candidates-to-be-detroits-1st-round-pick-in-2024/

Edge Rushers Lions Could Target in 2024 NFL Draft (Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Robinson's Nittany Lions didn't defeat Michigan Saturday, but the edge rusher played a huge role in forcing the opposing Wolverines to abandon their pass game. Early in the game, he proved to be a force working against Michigan right tackle Karsen Barnhart.  He notched a 91.3 Pro Football Focus pass rush grade for his performance, which included three pressures. In total, Robinson has 22 pressures in eight games this season.  He's been consistent throughout the season, securing three sacks and five tackles for loss. His athleticism is a problem for offensive tackles, a trait that signals success at the next level. ) (11-16-23):  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/edge-rushers-lions-could-add-2024-nfl-draft

6 Prospects to Watch in Michigan-Penn State Showdown (DE Chop Robinson:  Aidan Hutchinson needs a running mate. The Lions have struggled to get consistent production from a second EDGE rusher, which has allowed opponents to account for Hutchinson more often.  Robinson's skillset off the edge would make him a strong presence defensively. While taking some of the attention off Hutchinson, he also has enough ability to be an impact player at the next level.   He has three sacks already this season. With a strong day against the Wolverines, Robinson could stake his claim to being a top EDGE-rushing prospect in next year's draft.) Top 2024 NFL Draft Underclassmen We Could See in This Year’s All-Star Game Circuit (Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State: Similarly to Turner, Chop Robinson is almost a sure-fire top draft pick for a team needing a potential franchise changer at defensive end. Robinson may not have the same versatility as some of the other top edge defenders over the past few years, but he does make up for that with his length, speed, and athleticism combo.  Moving up draft boards is the biggest draw for a player like Robinson, though he’ll have the benefit of every NFL decision-maker attending the Penn State Pro Day as we await the unreal numbers that are sure to come from his workout.) Week 9 CFB prospect watch guide: Players with something to prove (Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State:  Robinson is an interesting top-50 prospect as a really good pass rusher who doesn’t get a lot of sacks. He’s proven to be a very effective pressure generator, one that can win with great hands, good cornering around the edge and some decent countermoves — but only 10 career sacks to show for it, 2.5 this year.  NFL teams typically want more sack production from a potential first-round pass rusher. Not always; there are notable exceptions, but it’s not going to work for every team. Robinson hasn’t played a ton thanks to blowout wins, so that’s certainly something for NFL teams to look at, too. This week, the Nittany Lions play Indiana, one of the worst offenses in college football. Robinson had a stellar game against the Hoosiers last year, living in the Indiana backfield. He should be able to do so once again. It’s a good opportunity for the talented Robinson to bag a sack or two and work on finishing what he starts) (10-28-23):  https://draftwire.usatoday.com/lists/2024-nfl-draft-cfb-week-9-watch-nix-treveyon-henderson-corleone-catalon-chop-robinson/

Although he may not be available when the Lions make their selection, general manager Brad Holmes is renowned for his adeptness at working the phone lines. 2024 NFL Draft: College Football Game Recaps – Week 8 (Another Penn State first-round prospect whose stock could have been hurt significantly in this game was defensive end Chop Robinson. The difference is Robinson played well, but in the first half, he left the game when his leg collapsed on him while fighting off a block. Robinson was carted into the locker room, and it looked like it could be a serious knee injury. Hopefully, tests reveal that is not major issue like a torn ACL or Achilles. NFL Draft: 10 elite defensive prospects to watch in Week 8's marquee matchups (Chop Robinson, OLB/DE, Penn State, 6-3, 254, junior.  The Nittany Lions lead the country in sacks per game, averaging 4.5 over their first six contests. Robinson "only" has three of his team's 27 sacks over that span, but his explosiveness generates many more big plays than his personal statistics suggest. He offers an exciting combination of burst, power and flexibility, with a compact frame that allows him to line up inside and out, up in the two-point stance, or with his hand in the dirt. He is equally adept at beating offensive tackles with his speed off the edge and "chopping" his way through the B gap with strong, coordinated hands. Robinson projects very similarly to the NFL as recent Penn State edge rushers Arnold Ebiketie (2022), Jayson Oweh (2021) and Yetur Gross-Matos (2020), who were selected 38th, 31st and 38th overall of their draft classes, respectively.) 2024 NFL Draft Stock Report (Up - Chop Robinson, DE, Penn State:  All night versus the Hawkeyes, Robinson fired past their blockers and causing havoc in the backfield. In the second quarter, Robinson used his speed to fly past guard and force Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara into a third-down completion. Shortly later, Robinson had another speed rush into the pocket, leaping high into the air and knocking his blocker into McNamara. In the third quarter, Robinson showed his explosion and ability to bend flying off the corner to blow by the left tackle and get a hit on McNamara. Late in the game, Robinson roasted the left tackle with a hand slap before exploding into Iowa’s backup quarterback to create a strip-sack that Penn State recovered.  Robinson’s performance against the Hawkeyes illustrated his potential to be a dangerous speed rusher in the NFL. He has a lightning-fast first-step with the athletic ability to get low and bend around the edge. Robinson shows speed to power and is a hard-charging edge rusher who really challenges offensive linemen. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder is undersized for run defense at the next level. The modern NFL game, however, is driven by passing, so Robinson’s quarterback-hunting ability could allow him to end up as a first-round pick for the 2024 NFL Draft.) NFL Draft Notes: College Football Game Recaps (The prospect who really helped himself in this game was Penn State edge rusher Chop Robinson. He fired past blockers all night and wreaked havoc in the backfield. In the second quarter, Robinson used his speed to fly past the Iowa guard and force quarterback Cade McNamara into a third-down incompletion. Shortly later, Robinson had another speed rush into the pocket, leaping high into the air and knocking his blocker into the quarterback. In the third quarter, Robinson showed his explosion and ability to bend flying off the corner, blowing by the left tackle to get a hit on McNamara. Late in the fourth quarter, Robinson roasted the Hawkeyes left tackle with a hand slap-and-explosion combination to strip-sack the backup quarterback. Penn State then recovered the loose ball.  This game illustrated that Robinson can be a dangerous speed rusher for the NFL. He has a lightning-fast first-step and the athletic ability to get low and bend around the edge. Robinson demonstrates speed to power and is a hard-charging edge rusher who really challenges offensive linemen. The 6-foot-3, 250-pounder is undersized for run defense at the next level, but the NFL is driven by passing, so his quarterback-hunting talents could make him a first-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.) NFL scouts will be watching Dillon Gabriel, Tommy Eichenberg, more in Week 4 (A varied Penn State pass rush and raucous Happy Valley crowd, however, will easily be Richman’s toughest challenge of the young season. Senior Adisa Isaac and junior Chop Robinson are among Penn State’s deep and speedy stable of pass rushers — a group that has already registered 10 sacks in just three games. Robinson does not technically have a sack yet (though he has two tackles for loss), but he explodes out of his stance and possesses the core flexibility to get skinny through creases in the line, creating easy big-play opportunities for teammates that scouts will not overlook.) CFB Week 3 2023: Draft Prospects Spencer Rattler, Jer'Zhan Newton, and Malik Nabers Stand Out (Chop Robinson has not established a steady production record with his pass-rushing ability in 2023, but his two-phase ability is impressive. CFB Week 2 2023: Draft Prospects Quinn Ewers, Marvin Harrison Jr., and Payton Wilson Stand Out (Chop Robinson might be a first-round pick, but he was the second-best pass rusher on the field for the Nittany Lions on Saturday. Abdul Carter isn’t draft eligible, but there is no wondering why he’s been graced with the No. 11 on PSU’s defense. Even when trying to focus on Robinson at the snap, your eyes naturally drew to Carter.) (9-10-23):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/cfb-week-2-2023-draft-prospects/

College Draft Prospects Lions Must Watch Week 1 (EDGE Chop Robinson, Penn State - The Lions have two exciting young players at the edge rusher position in Aidan Hutchinson and James Houston. If they want to get richer, a player like Robinson would fit perfect.  As a sophomore, he totaled 5.5 sacks and 10 tackles for loss. He posted a 64.3 overall PFF defensive grade and 13 total pressures.  He's a solid athlete who has an arsenal of moves to get after the quarterback. The next step in his development is to be more consistent against the run.   Penn State is viewed as an outside contender for the Big 10 title. If they can challenge, it will be because of their defense anchored by Robinson.) (9-2-23):  https://www.si.com/nfl/lions/news/lions-draft-prospects-to-watch-week-one

2024 draft watch: 8 players to watch, including DT Jer’Zhan Newton (Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State (junior) - 6-foot-3, 255 pounds.  An excerpt from Brugler’s edge rusher preview ($):  Some pass rushers require a runway to get going, but Robinson accelerates 0-to-60 in a blink. With his athletic twitch, he has the initial burst to threaten the corner or attack the chest of blockers for speed-to-power opportunities. Robinson’s athletic traits and understanding of leverage make him a tough player to corral.  How he’d fit with the Lions:  Penn State has produced a lot of NFL starting-level defensive linemen in recent years and Robinson looks to be the next in line. A lot of credit for producing wave after wave of defensive linemen goes to former defensive line coach John Scott Jr., who now holds the same role with the Lions. Under Scott’s tutelage, Robinson generated 40 pressures in 2022 as a rotational reserve and is just scratching the surface of his potential. If anyone in the NFL will have a firm grasp on Robinson’s developmental ceiling, it’ll be Scott—which is a big advantage for Detroit.) 2024 NFL draft: Preseason EDGE watch list and early rankings (7. Chop Robinson, Penn State:  Robinson is the more hyped Nittany Lions EDGE in this class, but a lack of size and bulk (under 240 pounds) keeps him from being ranked higher than teammate Adisa Isaac. His speed-to-power conversion on bull rushes at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds is imposing, which shows in his 20.9% pass-rush win rate. His arms are shorter than ideal and he’s still rounding out his pass-rush arsenal, but at a position that gravitates to elite athletes, Robinson has the gravitational pull of the sun.) 2024 NFL Draft: 12 EDGE Prospects to Watch (Demeioun “Chop” Robinson (Penn State):  Beginning his career at Maryland, Robinson played 263 snaps there in 2021 before transferring to Penn State and emerging as one of the most efficient pass-rushers in college football last year, being credited by PFF with 48 combined sacks, hits, and hurries over 267 rush snaps. He’s on the smaller side at 6’3”, 242, but has a gritty, physical style of play, with good knee-bend and leverage allowing him to play with more power than anticipated. A smooth, lanky edge, he could become an effective every-down player in the pros if he continues to fill out his frame and add functional strength.) 2024 NFL Draft: 10 draft-eligible edge defenders to know (3. CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE - When you flip on Penn State’s defensive tape from 2022, it won’t take you long to say, “Who is that dude on the defensive line with no gloves, no sleeves, wearing a number in 40s and wreaking havoc every other play?”  That would be Demeioun “Chop” Robinson.  Nicknamed “Pork Chop” as a baby, which has since been shortened to “Chop” after he leaned out and muscled up, Robinson has the best first step in the class. His speed-to-power conversion on bull rushes at 6-foot-3 and 250 pounds is imposing, which shows in his 20.9% pass-rush win rate. His arms are shorter than ideal and he’s still rounding out his pass-rush arsenal, but at a position that gravitates to elite athletes, Robinson has the gravitational pull of the sun.) Top 10 returning edge defenders in college football for the 2023 season (3. CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE NITTANY LIONS - After seeing limited playing time at Maryland as a true freshman, Robinson transferred intradivision to Penn State and broke out as a sophomore. He led all Power Five edge defenders in overall grade (90.6) and pass-rushing grade (92.4). For his efforts, he was the fourth-most valuable Power Five edge defender according to PFF’s wins above average metric.) Penn State Nittany Lions Preview: Roster, Prospects, Schedule, and More (Chop Robinson, EDGE:  It’s no surprise that EDGE is a heavily anticipated position each year for the school that produced Micah Parsons. This year, Chop Robinson is the one to watch as a potential early-round pick.  At 6’3″, 250 pounds, Robinson has decent size, although his length and raw traits aren’t at the root of his appeal. Rather, Robinson wins with his hot motor, active hands, prying urgency, and his flexibility when splicing through blocks.) 2024 NFL Draft: 8 draft-eligible prospects who could vault themselves into first-round consideration (EDGE CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE:  Despite being undersized at 6-foot-3 and 242 pounds, Robinson delivered a dominant season for the Nittany Lions in 2023. The Maryland transfer earned a 90.6 overall grade and 92.4 pass-rushing grade last season, leading all Power Five edge defenders in both categories. Robinson makes up for his lack of size with his explosiveness and flexibility as a pass-rusher. With another productive season in one of the best conferences in the country, Robinson could see his name skyrocket up draft boards this fall.) The 6-foot-3, 255-pound pass rusher recorded an elite 92.4 grade with 53 total pressures. His pass-rush win percentage was a very impressive 23.6%. His being a breakout candidate is less about production and more about the recognition as one of the top pass rushers in the country.) 2024 NFL Draft Watch List: 10 prospects to know at every defensive position (CHOP ROBINSON, PENN STATE:  Robinson dominated in his first year with the Nittany Lions after transferring in from Maryland. He led all Power Five edge defenders in overall grade (90.6) and pass-rushing grade (92.4) this past season. Robinson’s 23.6% pass-rush win rate ranked sixth among that same group. He’s not the biggest (6-foot-3, 242 pounds) edge defender, but he is incredibly explosive and relentless.) Ranking top 10 defensive prospects for 2024 NFL Draft: Loaded edge rusher group, smooth Alabama CB, and more (6. Chop Robinson, EDGE, Penn State:  Such an amazing name for an amazing breakout player in 2022. Robinson's a smaller, highly explosive, flexible outside rusher who typically manufactures pressure in a hurry. His games against Auburn, Michigan and Utah were ridiculous. Burst, bend, dip -- it was an athleticism showcase for the Nittany Lions star.   He does need to get better and more powerful with his hands. But his traits are through the roof. And you know -- the first round is mainly reserved for the freaky athletes. Kalen King, Penn State's other star cornerback in 2022, has major upside as well.)
