I'll be honest; I've been on the Dunker train for years now. I had him as a first round pick in early iterations of my mock draft. I still think he'll perform like a first-round talent. He may not do so at a position that demands a first-round price tag. With shorter-than-ideal arms, the three-year starter at right tackle for the Hawkeyes may be forced to kick inside to guard. He should still be a Day 2 selection, which makes his selection here tenuous. But this is my column, so I'm gonna bend the rules to talk about a guy who merits conversation. Dunker looks like the platonic idea of an interior lineman, from the midwestern roots to the mustache/mullet combination to the 300 pounds of stacked beef topped off with tattoos of varying scrutability. He looks like a henchman in an 80s movie and plays like that henchman's boss on the field, introducing violence as a possible solution to any and all problems he may face. Once Dunker is locked onto you in the run game, you're done for. He's stupidly strong and can be a wrecking ball, especially in a duo situation where he's chipping in to crush a defender before moving up for his next assignment. But that move up will come with average speed and quickness (5.18 second 40 at the combine), which raises a few questions about his ability to be a consistent road grader in the pros. Still, even with short arms and average speed, Dunker looks and plays like something Godzilla should be fighting. He's got a low, solid anchor that makes him a rampart in pass protection. He's got the demeanor every offensive line and strength coach loves. He'll be an asset for whomever dials him up on Day 2.) Parker Take Field in Mobile (Gennings Dunker, OL, National - Day 1 Update.  Gennings Dunker was a brick wall in 1-on-1s, taking reps at both guard and tackle. His steady center of gravity, ability to play square while using active hands, and stifling anchor all proved paramount, and he scored one of the only wins on TJ Parker all day, redirecting Parker inside with torque and lower-body drive when Parker’s first move stalled out.  It still remains to be seen which position Dunker will find a home at long-term, but his lateral mobility appeared strong enough at either spot on Tuesday, and his experience shined through with his point-of-attack strength and technical consistency.) 2026 NFL Draft: Matchups to watch at the Panini Senior Bowl (OT Gennings Dunker vs. Edge T.J. Parker:  Dunker will be one to watch in Mobile as he’s expected to take reps at both tackle and guard, giving scouts a clearer picture of where his long-term home may be at the next level. The projected top-40 pick has been dominant as Iowa’s right tackle over the past two seasons, earning an elite 90.0 PFF grade over that span, highlighted by an 89.8 run-blocking mark.  While Clemson endured a disappointing 2025 campaign, Parker remained a bright spot on the Tigers’ defense. He finished the season with an 80.7 PFF grade and 41 pressures and has been consistently productive across his three years in the program. Parker owns an 89.9 career PFF grade, including 85-plus marks as both a pass rusher and run defender. Senior Bowl practices for 2026 NFL draft: Best QBs, prospects (Quick-hitters from Day 1 - Yates:  Edge rusher Zion Young (Missouri) brought ferocious energy to the one-on-ones, as he showed the power that made him a great college player. Young wins with knock-back power and length as a rusher, which he used to land an offensive tackle on his back in a one-on-one rep. I think Young will go early in Round 2.  Gennings Dunker is the next in a long line of talented Iowa offensive linemen, and I liked what I saw from him in pass protection Tuesday. Dunker showed good lateral agility and the length to ward off edge rushers, plus a toughness and finish on his reps (as well as an off-the-charts mullet). He's another Day 2 prospect for me.) He started as a guard for the Hawkeyes before ending up at right tackle for the past three seasons. However, teams will question his size and length at tackle, much like Peter Skoronski, so a slide inside to guard could be his ticket. He’s a capable perimeter athlete with his attitude and power, but the size profile limits his ceiling out there. The week in Mobile will go a long way in determining his fate. He projects as a Day 2 selection at this point. PFF graded him highly as the 17th-best tackle with an overall score of 82.0. He’s the first Iowa offensive lineman in Mobile since the 2021 event.) Senior Bowl 2026 Offensive Line Preview: Emmanuel Pregnon, Gennings Dunker Set the Tone (Gennings Dunker, OT/G, Iowa:  A majority of projected first-rounders are skipping the Senior Bowl, leaving Iowa’s Gennings Dunker as perhaps the largest “name” in attendance.  Dunker was credentialed and graded well in 2024 at right tackle for the Hawkeyes, setting the stage for a 2025 season that would solidify him as a first-round pick. Polarizing tape did the opposite.  I disagree that Dunker’s NFL future is definitively at guard. At right tackle, his concerns about mediocre movement and length are alleviated. Three Iowa Offensive Lineman Earn All-B1G Honors (All-B1G First Team - Gennings Dunker:  With aspirations to be drafted, Dunker more than held his weight this season. He may not have as high of a PFF grade as the likes of Jones or Stephens, but it's not like NFL executives are taking those grades to heart. Dunker earned second-team honors last season and had to push through the pain here in 2025. No matter if he was 100% healthy or not, he continued to increase his draft stock by holding things down as the team's right tackle. Between their left guard, center, and right tackle, it's no wonder why Iowa's offense seemingly looked better than ever.) 2026 NFL Draft: College Game Recaps – Week 11 (There was a good draft matchup in this game with Iowa tackle Gennings Dunker taking on Ducks edge rushers Matayo Uiagalelei and Teitum Tuioti. If Dunker could shut them down, that would be helpful for his draft grade, as they are both dangerous quarterback hunters. Overall, Dunker was solid and held his own against the Ducks tandem.  In the first quarter, Iowa had a busted play, and Tuioti chased down Mark Gronowski for a sack. In the third quarter, Uiagalelei got close to a sack with a power rush through the right tackle. Shortly after that play, Tuioti suffered an arm injury and had to leave the game. But Tuioti came back in the game later. Late in the fourth quarter, Tuioti made a superb play chasing down a back from the backside to prevent a potential touchdown run for Iowa. The next play, Tuioti flew over to the sideline in zone coverage and made a touchdown-saving tackle on a tight end a few yards short of the end zone. Tuioti came close to a sack on third-and-goal.  Tuioti is an active defender who lines up at edge rusher, outside linebacker, and middle linebacker. He plays very hard, is always around the ball, and has a knack for making plays. Tuioti is not an exceptional athlete and does not have overwhelming speed or strength. Hence, he could be more of a day two or mid-round linebacker that rotates in as a Sam linebacker.  Uiagalelei has a good skill set with size, speed, and power. However, he has been inconsistent in his college career. He has flashes that are extremely impressive, but he also has a lot of quiet stretches where his losing reps to blockers who are not as physically talented as he is. Uiagalelei looks more like a day-two or mid-rounder.  For the NFL, Dunker could be a candidate to play right tackle or guard. He is strong and blocks with aggression. He has developed the strength to tie up defenders and sustain his blocks when he gets hold of them. Defenders struggle to shed once Dunker gets into their chest. Dunker is not horrible athletically, but his agility and quickness are not special. Thus, he would be better off on the right side, and right guard could be his best fit at the pro level.) His people-moving skills in the run game are NFL-ready, notably as an outside zone seek-and-destroyer. Draft opinions are quite mixed on Dunker.
