I didn't need to check the jersey number to confirm I was watching this Oklahoma product run through drills Friday, because his springy, fluid nature separated him from the pack. Spears-Jennings appeared a little tight in the hips to begin the workout, but he quickly loosened up and went to work, consistently delivering high-quality reps and showing off natural leaping ability that paired nicely with good hands. He was both light and explosive, so much so that he nearly ran himself out of the box drill ... but he used that same ability to recover and finish strong. Add in his testing -- including a 4.32 40 and a 10-foot-5 broad jump -- and it's fair to say he earned himself a notable boost in draft stock.) Oklahoma's Robert Spears-Jennings runs 2nd-fastest 40 among safeties at NFL Combine (On Day 2 of testing at the NFL Combine, defensive backs and tight ends took center stage in Indianapolis. For Oklahoma, that meant an opportunity for Robert Spears-Jennings and Jaren Kanak to leave an impression on NFL personnel at Lucas Oil Stadium. A day after Gracen Halton stole the show during defensive tackle drills, Spears-Jennings did his part to turn some heads when the safeties took the field.  Spears-Jennings ran a laser-timed 4.32 in the 40-yard dash, which was tied for the second-fastest time among players at the NFL Combine, through Friday's results. Spears-Jennings tied with Missouri cornerback Toriano Pride and finished just behind Ohio State safety Lorenzo Styles Jr., who clocked in with a 4.27 in the 40. Spears-Jennings was part of a group of safeties that averaged a 4.42 in the 40 at this year's combine, which was the fastest average time for that position at the scouting event since at least 2003, according to Next Gen Stats.Spears-Jennings' 4.32 dash included a 1.51-second 10-yard split, which was third among safeties. Oklahoma Sooners defender enters NFL Draft (Oklahoma Sooners defensive back Robert Spears-Jennings announced his intentions to enter the NFL Draft on Tuesday. The senior from Broken Arrow, Oklahoma spent all four seasons of his collegiate career with the Sooners, playing right away as a true freshman as part of the 2022 recruiting class. He had exhausted his college eligibility.  Spears-Jennings became a full-time starter at safety in 2024 for OU, and was the starter again during the program's run to the College Football Playoff in 2025. The local product was a key part of the resurgence of the Oklahoma defense under head coach Brent Venables, and he served as a captain in his final year in Norman, after being one of three representatives for the Sooners at SEC Media Days. Spears-Jennings recorded 177 total tackles, 2.5 sacks, five forced fumbles, two pass breakups, and two interceptions in his college career. He nearly made an intercepted Beau Pribula before hitting the ground, and he later headed to the injury tent during the commercial break.  Spears-Jennings had a brace on his shoulder to start Saturday’s game, according to the ABC broadcast. Pair of Oklahoma Sooners included on The Athletic's 'Freaks List' (The other player that landed on the list is former four-star safety out of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Robert Spears-Jennings. He was ranked No. 82 on Feldman's Freak List.  Spears-Jennings matched Ott in max velocity at 21.6 mph but bested the star running back in max acceleration at 12.8 mph. The Oklahoma product showed big gains in the strength department as well, squatting 510 pounds and benching 330 pounds. He's a force in every facet of the game, but showed a prowess to blitz off the edge in Oklahoma's defense, recording 2.5 sacks last season. It takes a special type of accelration and speed to explode off the line of scrimmage and get to the quarterback before an offensive lineman even knows you're coming.  Robert Spears-Jennings has been with the Oklahoma Sooners since arriving in the 2022 recruiting class. In his time with the Sooners, he's flashed speed and explosiveness from his safety spot. Even when he was seeing just rotational snaps, he'd flash his potential with his big-time athleticism.  Now he's one of the leaders of a defense expected to take another big step in 2025.
