2024 Rankings for CB Terrion Arnold

Terrion Arnold:

Overall:

Daniel Jeremiah's top 150 (9.  Terrion Arnold:  Arnold has ideal size, play speed and instincts for the position. He plays both outside and inside at the nickel. He is effective in press and off coverage. He is fluid to open up and mirror in press. He has plenty of speed to stay in phase on deep balls. From off coverage, he has a quick and smooth pedal, and he doesn't waste steps in his plant drive. He is also effective playing with a side turn and anticipating routes before cutting them off. He has outstanding ball skills, and the production (five interceptions and 17 passes defensed in 2023) reflects his ability. He is a physical, face-up tackler. He doesn't miss tackles in space. Overall, I struggled to find much to criticize in Arnold's play, despite his lack of experience at the position, having arrived at Alabama as a highly regarded safety prospect. He has all the tools and traits to be a Pro Bowl-caliber cornerback.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/daniel-jeremiah-s-top-150-prospects-in-the-2024-nfl-draft-class

Touchdown wire (9. Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama:  A four-star recruit out of John Paul II High in Tallahassee, Florida, Arnold was a football and basketball star in high school, and at one point was convinced that basketball was his primary sporting avenue before Charlie Ward, who had a similar dual profile at Florida State and was Arnold’s high school basketball coach, convinced him to stick it out. It was the wise choice, as Arnold committed to Alabama over offers from Florida State, Georgia, LSU, Miami, Penn State and Texas A&M.  Arnold locked things down quite nicely for the Crimson tide last season. He allowed 41 receptions on 79 targets for 441 yards, 250 yards after the catch, two touchdowns, five interceptions, 13 pass breakups, and an opponent passer rating of 50.7. Arnold can play just about any route really well, though he’ll need some development on quick, angular routes when he’s in off coverage. When he’s in press, good luck getting anything by him. PLUSES:  Outstanding man/match corner with step-for-step ability and excellent ball skills to catch and break up passes all over the field.  Hyper-aggressive playing personality when it comes to timing the ball; he thinks it’s more his than yours if you throw it in his area.  Short-area agility and transition speed make him a real pain in tight coverage.  Love him in press coverage where he’s velcroed to the receiver all the way though.  Has an great sense of how to disrupt receivers off the line, which is crucial in today’s NFL with so much quick game.  MINUSES:  Had a bad stretch mid-season where Tennessee and Arkansas just killed him with comebacks.  Can be a step late to diagnose and react; you’d like to see him get going just a hair quicker at times.  Grabby at times, which NFL officials might ding him on based on their own competence (ha).  Needs to work on closing to the target in off coverage.  The dings are minor here, though I think that Arnold would be better in a defense with more press coverage than not if you want him to be a Day 1 alpha.):  https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/2024-nfl-draft-big-board-jayden-daniels-caleb-williams-malik-nabers-marvin-harrison-jr/

USA Today (10. Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama:  Not many cornerbacks can toggle between outside and the slot while handling a broad range of receivers, but Arnold sizes up as the rare figure who can be trusted in almost any matchup. The 6-0, 189-pounder is both sticky in coverage and pesky at the catch point, though his aggressive nature could be exploited by crafty, patient receivers in the early going.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/draft/2024/04/11/nfl-draft-rankings-players-jj-mccarthy-drake-maye/73277286007/

Foxsports (12. Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama — 6-0, 189, Redshirt Sophomore.  A safety in high school, Arnold was quickly moved to cornerback with the Crimson Tide and emerged as arguably the best cornerback in the country. He was named an All-American in 2023, using his instincts and light feet to shadow receivers downfield and his active hands to break up 12 passes, intercepting five of them.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/2024-nfl-draft-prospect-rankings-caleb-williams-leads-our-top-100-big-board

CBS (13. Terrion Arnold:  Rating: 92.43 (All-Pro).  Pro Comparison: Jaycee Horn.  Summary -Terrion Arnold is a boundary cornerback with good size. He has average top-end speed but has little difficulty carrying routes up the boundary. Arnold gets a bit loose in routes transitioning across the field and can do a better job of breaking his feet down in space to make a form tackle. He is a high-energy cornerback who will occasionally lose patience and grab the receiver during routes. Over the past two years, Arnold has tremendous ball production. He is not afraid to play downhill in run support and jam at the line of scrimmage.  About - 2023: First-team All-American (AP).  2023: 5 INT (T-most in SEC).  Strengths - Not afraid to be physical, jam receivers at the line of scrimmage.  Versatility to play on the boundary or in the slot.  Willing to play downhill in run support.  Good size for the position.  Great ball production over the past two years.  Weaknesses - Gets a bit loose transitioning across the field.  11% missed tackle rate in 2023, per TruMedia.  Loses patience and grabs in coverage occasionally.  Combine Data - 40-yard dash: 4.5 seconds.  Vertical jump: 37 inches.  Broad jump: 10 feet, 9 inches):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/prospect-rankings/

SN (13. Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama (6-0, 189 pounds):  Arnold is a smooth corner who uses his size well in coverage, and he's agile enough to make big plays on the ball and also be a reliable asset in run support.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-draft-prospects-2024-rankings-updated-big-board/654f5ef6d8add7f17b7b411b

NFL Edholm (14.  Terrion Arnold:  I like Quinyon Mitchell a touch more, but Arnold's potential shines the more you watch him. It's easy to get hung up on his mistakes, but don’t forget he’s still only three years removed from high school. He’s a fierce competitor in a compact but very athletic build.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/eric-edholm-s-top-100-prospects-2-0-ranking-the-best-players-in-the-2024-nfl-draft-class

Walter football (14. Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama.Previously: 13 Avg. 27.8 per 36.  04/24/24: Arnold recorded 63 tackles, five interceptions and 12 passes broken up during 2023. He played well for Alabama in 2022, recording 45 tackles, an interception and eight passes broken up. The 6-foot, 188-pounder has quality size to go along with instincts and good technique. Arnold’s only real flaw is not being fast or very twitched up, and that presents some limitations for the NFL. Still, Arnold looks like a good fit for a zone team. He looks likely to be the first cornerback taken in the 2024 NFL Draft.):  https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftbigboard.php

PFF Big Board (14.  Terrion Arnold:  Arnold isn't the most polished cornerback in this class, but his high-percentile athletic abilities give him as high a ceiling as any cornerback in man or zone systems.):  https://www.pff.com/draft/big-board?season=2024

Yahoo (17. Terrion Arnold, CB, Alabama:  Arnold’s role and influence on Alabama’s defense expanded throughout the 2023 season. Whether it was from the outside or in the slot, Arnold loved to challenge wide receivers and was willing to mix up his coverage looks while doing so. His ball skills are also an asset, not just with interceptions but making plays on the ball, which he helps create with his play recognition and very good burst with some Gary Payton-like ball swipes.  Arnold is aggressive and can get burned once in a while, but he can play inside and out and is willing to press wide receivers (and win, as well). His length, twitchiness and feisty style are going to give him plenty of fans throughout the league.):  https://sports.yahoo.com/2024-nfl-draft-final-top-100-big-board-goes-in-depth-on-all-the-key-prospects-ahead-of-draft-weekend-130054234.html

Walter football (1. Terrion Arnold - Height: 5-11. Weight: 189.  40 Time: 4.50.  Projected Round (2024): 1.  4/23/24: In 2023, Arnold totaled 61 tackles, five interceptions and 11 passes broken up. He has quality size to go along with instincts and good technique. A lack of speed is his only real flaw, and that presents some limitations for the NFL. Some team sources noted Arnold has ability and upside, but he needs to get tougher mentally, gain more confidence, and trigger on routes faster. Arnold seems to second-guess himself, but he is a good athlete with the body of an NFL starter. Arnold did not impress at the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine, which could lead to him not being the first cornerback taken in the 2024 NFL Draft. Arnold, however, is viewed as the safest cornerback prospect, based on his tape, so he could still be the first corner off the board.  9/2/23: Arnold played well for Alabama in 2022, recording 45 tackles, an interception and eight passes broken up. He has quality size to go along with quickness and athleticism. While Arnold has a really good skill set, he lacks instincts and makes some mental mistakes. Arnold struggles to find the ball in flight and has issues with awareness and feel. If Arnold can show improvement in his instincts, awareness and feel, he could rise.):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2024CB.php

CFN CB (2. Terrion Arnold, Alabama - 6-0, 189, Projection: 1st Round.  108 tackles, 6 INT, 20 PBU.  Terrion Arnold, From The College Football Perspective: The guy just knows how to cover.  It helped to be on the other side of Kool-Aid McKinstry, and vice versa, but he's smooth as silk, is great in the open field against the run, and he plays like he's been coached on all of the finer points.  With all of that said, he'll be outmuscled by the bigger targets at the next level, but that's nitpicking.  There's too much quickness, speed, and all-around skill to think he'll be anything but a high-end started who'll take on everyone's No. 1 man.):  https://collegefootballnews.com/news/cfn-cornerback-rankings-top-5-2024-nfl-draft
