2024 NFL Draft: Biggest steals of Day 1, including Brock Bowers and Laiatu Latu (CB TERRION ARNOLD, DETROIT LIONS:  A feisty man coverage specialist, Arnold was the target of a Lions trade-up at No. 24, marking another step in an overhaul of their secondary after the team acquired Carlton Davis and Amik Robertson earlier in the offseason.  Arnold is capable of holding up as a boundary cornerback but really thrived inside, grading out in the 90th percentile when lined up in the slot in 2023. His five interceptions this past season tied for sixth among Power Five cornerbacks.):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-draft-biggest-steals-day-1-including-brock-bowers-laiatu-latu

2024 NFL Draft: One interesting stat for each first-round draft pick (24. DETROIT LIONS (VIA DALLAS): CB TERRION ARNOLD, ALABAMA:  Arnold combined for 19 forced incompletions plus interceptions in 2023, tied for second-most in a single season by any Alabama defensive back in the PFF College era (behind Minkah Fitzpatrick).):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-draft-one-interesting-stat-for-each-first-round-draft-pick

2024 NFL Draft: Rome Odunze, Brock Bowers among Day 1's top value picks (5. Terrion Arnold:  Production Score: 90.  Athleticism Score: 70.  OVERALL DRAFT SCORE: 85.  For the second consecutive year, the Lions traded up to select an Alabama cornerback with a stellar pedigree. Arnold was the top-ranked defender on Daniel Jeremiah's Big Board (No. 9 overall) and earned the highest production score (90) in this year's cornerback class, according to the NGS draft model. Arnold will reunite with Brian Branch, the aforementioned Crimson Tide product who inspired the Lions to move up in Round 2 in 2023 -- he's also the only cornerback who earned a higher NGS production score than Arnold over the last two draft classes (91).  The Lions have transformed their biggest defensive weakness into a potential strength this offseason by trading their third-round pick for Carlton Davis and moving up to select Arnold. This duo should be a significant upgrade over ex-Lions Jerry Jacobs and Cameron Sutton, who were part of a unit that allowed the second-most yards (2,229) on passes that traveled over 10 air yards last season.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/2024-nfl-draft-rome-odunze-brock-bowers-among-day-1-s-top-value-picks

What we learned from Round 1 of 2024 NFL Draft (The Eagles and Lions are better for being patient
Both NFC contenders entered Thursday in need of secondary reinforcements. But neither club panicked regarding the availability of consensus top two cornerbacks Terrion Arnold and Quinyon Mitchell, staying in the 20s and ending up securing those very cover men. Always prone to move, especially in trades up, the Eagles stood pat at No. 22 and were happy to let Mitchell fall into their lap; he should have an immediate role in Vic Fangio's unit. Detroit, meanwhile, made a slight jump from No. 29 to No. 24 to stop Arnold's slide and get a new CB1.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/what-we-learned-from-round-1-of-the-2024-nfl-draft-falcons-risking-controversy-vikings-trust-their-setup/

5 biggest surprises of the first round of the NFL Draft (5. The cornerback fall - If you care about mock drafts, most had the first cornerback going somewhere around No. 13 overall. The first corner went No. 22 overall on Thursday. It wasn't a big night for defensive players at large, we will get into that in a second, but a couple of teams got some absolute STEALS with these cornerbacks.  I'm not sure how the Philadelphia Eagles are always gifted these studs, but Quinyon Mitchell should be an immediate starter. He shook off "MAC conference questions" at the Senior Bowl by dominating, and recorded the most passes defensed in the FBS over the past two seasons with 37. The Eagles needed to boost the secondary, and they did just that by taking arguably the best cornerback in the draft.  If Mitchell isn't the best cornerback in the draft, it's probably Alabama's Terrion Arnold -- who went two picks later at No. 24 overall to the Detroit Lions after a trade up. Detroit was another NFC contender that needed to add in the secondary, especially after the Cam Sutton incident, and Arnold was responsible for the most incomplete targets among SEC players last season with 43. He figures to start right away, too.  These two players could have gone higher in the first round, and two great teams benefitted from their falls.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2024-nfl-draft-five-biggest-surprises-of-the-first-round-including-qb-records-broken-and-defenders-ignored/

NFL Draft winners & losers: Bears nail picks, Falcons take unnecessary risk in Round 1 (Winners - Packers-Lions rivalry.  Detroit and Green Bay took turns making need-based picks that were on brand in the first round.   Detroit, who made the NFC championship game last season, traded up five spots to No. 24 with Dallas and took Alabama cornerback Terrion Arnold, who was arguably the top cornerback in this year’s draft after compiling five interceptions and 12 pass breakups last season. Lions general manager Brad Holmes continues to build a Super Bowl contender with a best-player-available philosophy.   One pick later, Green Bay addressed a need at offensive tackle with Jordan Morgan, a three-year starter who should provide more protection for Jordan Love. The Packers went with an offensive player in the first round for the first time since Love in 2020. Green Bay has four Day 2 picks to work with. General manager Brian Gutekunst is making good moves, too.  While the Bears and Vikings made headlines with quarterbacks, Detroit and Green Bay are Super Bowl contenders in the NFC North.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-draft-2024-winners-losers-bears-chargers-falcons/8056152b7851012eb75a47e4

NFL draft winners, losers: Bears rise, Kirk Cousins falls after first round (Winners - Detroit:  Roughly 275,000 fans flocked downtown to witness the first round, a record per NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. Look out, Nashville – seems like Motown is coming for your draft attendance record, which was more than 600,000 fans over three days in 2019.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/nate-davis/2024/04/26/nfl-draft-winners-losers-first-round-2024-kirk-cousins/73378230007/

Top NFL Draft Round 1 Steals: Raiders Land Brock Bowers, Stud Corner Falls to Eagles (CB Terrion Arnold: No. 24, Detroit Lions:  The Detroit Lions traded up for this pick, sending Nos. 29 and 73 to the Dallas Cowboys for No. 24 and a 2025 seventh-round pick. With the 24th pick, Dan Campbell and company address their glaring cornerback need by selecting Arnold. We had Arnold as the top corner on our big board and the No. 10 prospect overall. That a corner-needy team landed him in the mid-20s was a stunning development, one made possible by the early run on offensive players.  Plus, the Lions didn’t need to give up too much in the trade. This is a great pick.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/top-nfl-draft-round-1-steals-raiders-land-brock-bowers-stud-corner-falls-to-eagles/

Trade Grades:

Walter football (Lions acquire No. 24 (Terrion Arnold) and 2025 7th-round pick from Cowboys for No. 29 (Tyler Guyton) and 73 (3rd).  I thought this was an outstanding trade for both teams. I can’t imagine that the Lions in their wildest dreams imagined that Terrion Arnold would be available at No. 24, so they were wise to move up five spots to acquire him, filling a huge need in the process.  As for the Cowboys, they easily could have drafted Tyler Guyton at No. 24, but they picked up a third-round pick and still got him at No. 29. Acquiring a third-round pick for free earns an A+ grade any day of the week.  Grade for Lions – A.  Grade for Cowboys – A+):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2024tradegrades.php

Day 2:

2024 NFL Draft: Day 2 draft fits for all 32 teams (DETROIT LIONS: IOL MASON MCCORMICK, SOUTH DAKOTA STATE:  McCormick’s potential versatility throughout the offensive line and nasty demeanor just screams Detroit Lion. He posted an outstanding 90.8 PFF run-blocking grade in 2023 while showing equal dominance in pass protection (just four total pressures against with no sacks surrendered).):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2024-nfl-draft-day-2-draft-fits-for-all-32-teams
