His 18 starts of experience might worry some teams, but I'd bet Detroit would be happy to land Freeling in this range. He has a ton of potential, and the Lions were 31st in pass block win rate last season (55.5%). Because Freeling played left tackle at Georgia, Penei Sewell could stick on the right side, too. Freeling would replace Taylor Decker at LT, with new signee Larry Borom also getting plenty of reps. It'd be a key move in getting this team back to the postseason. 50. Walter football Charlie (17. Kayden Proctor, OT, Alabama: I’ve had the Lions taking a tackle a lot, and the odds of that happening increased with the release of Taylor Decker. I think Detroit will sign a cheap veteran, but target a long-term cheap solution in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft. Proctor’s size and phy. Overall, Proctor played well in 2023 as a freshman. Except for struggling against Michigan in the college football playoff, Proctor was generally reliable in protecting Jalen Milroe in 2024 and then Ty Simpson in 2025. Proctor (6-7, 360) is a massive left tackle with a very good skill set of size, strength, length, and athleticism. Proctor is quick and athletic for his size, and that could be seen with him serving as a short-yardage running back during his college career. NFL team sources say they have concerns about Proctor’s weight. Sources say that Proctor has a lot of talent and upside. If he lands with good coaching and works hard, Proctor could be a star. 50. Gabe Jacas , DE, Illinois: The Lions need more edge rush talent across from Aidan Hutchinson. In 2025, Jacas had 11 sacks, three forced fumbles, one pass batted, and 43 tackles. Jacas (6-3, 275) played well for the Fighting Illini in 2024, providing an impact at the point of attack. In the ground game, Jacas has functional strength to hold his ground and get in on runs outside of his gap. Jacas is strong and quick in the pass rush, showing the ability to get after the quarterback as a versatile rusher. He had eight sacks, 74 tackles, and three forced fumbles in 2024. 118. Doing that would put Larry Borom in position to start on the right side, but I think there are several candidates in this class who would be better. At this point in the draft, it’s better to focus on what’s been established. Freeling flourished at left tackle with the Bulldogs, and Sewell is the best right tackle in the NFL. They could be Detroit’s bookend tackles for many years to come.) (4-1-26): https://www.si.com/nfl/gilberto-manzano-nfl-mock-draft-2026-cardinals-titans-prioritize-playmakers

Athletic Feldman (17. Kadyn Proctor, OT, Alabama: With no more Taylor Decker, Detroit needs help at tackle. The Lions have had a lot of luck with Iowa products, so why not grab an Iowa native? The 6-7, 352-pound Proctor, an All-American in 2025, has as much potential as any O-lineman in this draft. He moves quite well for his size and is an explosive athlete, having vertical jumped 32 1/2 inches at the combine despite weighing north of 350 pounds. How many other guys this enormous can do a backflip like he can? His 5.21 40 is impressive given how massive he is. Alabama coaches I’ve spoken to are big fans of Proctor. He lost the weight last year that he was asked to lose, and a year before, when he tore his labrum in pregame warmups in their opener, he came back in the next game and played the rest of the season with it. “The guy is a giant of a man,” said an SEC D-line coach. “He can move whoever he needs to move. He’s got some freakish ability with just how strong he is, and how well he can move in terms of his agility. I’d guess he’ll be a right tackle in the NFL, but he might be even better as a guard — as long as he controls his weight. I think he can be a hell of a player.” “He’s a behemoth,” said a secondary coach who faced Alabama early in the season. “He’s so huge, but we kind of walked away and were like, ‘eh.’ Our guy got after him pretty good. Does he have the feet to play against a Myles Garrett or T.J. Watt? I don’t know. He might be better as a guard.”) (4-1-26): https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7151713/2026/04/01/nfl-mock-draft-intel-coaches-scouts-agents-2026/

Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia: Taylor Decker’s retirement leaves Dan Campbell’s Lions with a major hole at the left tackle spot, unless they want to move Penei Sewell over to that side. If they don’t (and they shouldn’t), the obvious answer is to replace Decker in the draft. Georgia’s Monroe Freeling has a few technical things to develop, but the good tape is REALLY good. The 6-foot-7, 315-pound Freeling has tremendous range and leverage when everything is aligned correctly, and even when it isn’t, the man allowed just two sacks and eight total pressures last season in 469 pass-blocking reps. Freeling spent the last two years at left tackle for the Bulldogs with an ideal frame and good athleticism. He went from 21 allowed pressures in 2024 to eight in 2025. ESPN Miller (17. Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia: Taylor Decker's release leaves an opening at left tackle barring a move from Penei Sewell from the right side. Either way, the Lions need tackle help. Freeling was a one-year starter at Georgia but has elite traits in terms of movement, length (6-foot-7, 315 pounds) and 4.93 speed. Freeling is one of the few proven left tackles with a Round 1 grade and has the upside of a higher-end starter thanks to his upper-level athletic skills plus his development over the course of the 2025 season. 50. ESPN Yates (17. Kadyn Proctor, OT, Alabama: Left tackle is a sizable need for Detroit with the departure of Taylor Decker after 10 seasons. Proctor is a sizable answer to the problem -- literally -- at 6-foot-7, 352 pounds. He has power when he gets his hands on defenders in the running game as well. Proctor's tape had up-and-down moments during his final college season, as sometimes his foot quickness was overmatched by edge rushers. But the upside is immense for the 20-year-old left tackle, who started all 40 games he appeared in at Alabama. 50. Gabe Jacas, Edge, Illinois: Certain players just look like they'd fit in coach Dan Campbell's program -- and Jacas is one of them. He's a hard-nosed rusher with heavy hands and a dedication to defending the run (21 run stuffs over the past two seasons). When Proctor is at his best, he's one of the most impressive offensive linemen I've ever watched. He's a heavy-handed rusher with nonstop effort who wears down blockers. He finished last season with 12.5 sacks and 17.5 tackles for loss for the Hurricanes and would be an ideal edge pairing with Aidan Hutchinson. Mesidor's age (he turns 25 in April) has been a talking point, but that doesn't seem to be an issue with scouts I have spoken with. 50. His edge setting took a year-over-year hit, with Parker logging 22 run stops in 2025 vs. 35 in 2024. Even as Clemson reduced his snap load from 640 to 548, TJP’s pass-rushing acumen made him a centerpiece of the Clemson front, solidifying his profile as a durable, pressure-oriented Edge with matching run-defense capabilities.) Athletic Beatwriter (17. Monroe Freeling, OT, Georgia: The Lions informed the league they’d be open to fielding calls and trading down. Perhaps the teams below us didn’t have service. Ultimately, the decision at No. 17 came down to Freeling and Auburn edge Keldric Faulk. Faulk might be Detroit’s type as a powerful pocket crusher, but you could argue the Lions need an edge with a more refined pass-rush plan. Considering the depth at edge in this class compared with tackle, it felt right to address the offensive line here, with left tackle Taylor Decker mulling retirement. No. 21 in Brugler’s top 100, Freeling (6-7, 315 pounds with 34-inch arms) looks the part of a franchise tackle and can really move in space.
