The reason I have him at ten is because I don’t see much pass rush from him. He wasn’t a productive pass rusher at Alabama, and I’m not sure these traits will develop for him at the next level. As a 3-4 defensive end, you would like to have pass rush from him to select him in the first round. A 3-4 defensive end that doesn’t rush the pass well is still a valuable asset as long as the player is a quality run defender, which Robinson is. Summation – A versatile defensive lineman in that he can play in a 4-3 or a 3-4. Can play anywhere along the line in a 3-4 scheme. Is best as a rundown player but he can give you something as a pass rusher. Until he perfects his pass rush skills he will be limited to being a rundown player early in his career. A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Alabama, Jr. (6-3, 312, 5.18, #86): The Alabama front-seven was ready for LSU running back Leonard Fournette on Saturday, allowing only 31 rushing yards on 19 carries to the Heisman contender. And Robinson's play was a substantial reason Fournette averaged only 1.6 yards on the ground. He was outstanding at the point of attack with the lower body agility to mirror the ballcarrier and scrape down the line of scrimmage, chasing with closing burst in the open field. Robinson has the hip flexibility to work tight spaces, using his hands to unglue himself from blocks and lower his pads to drive blockers backwards. The best display of his athleticism might have been on an extra point block in the fourth quarter. Noticing that the snapper and blockers were lining up low to the ground, he jumped over the offensive line and landed on his feet, collecting himself to extend and block the try. Robinson also saw playing time on offense as a lead blocker for Derrick Henry, which is an unwelcoming sight for any linebacker attacking downhill. If you factor out an 83-yard touchdown scored with Georgia down 38-3, superstar Bulldog Nick Chubb was held to 63 yards on 19 carries by the Tide. But this week might actually provide a stiffer test for the group. Arkansas' O-line might be the best 'Bama faces during the regular season, and the Hogs have a legit star tailback, too, in Alex Collins. All of which makes for a good environment to watch Robinson, one of the premier run-stopping defensive linemen in the country. "He's a big, wide-bodied, put-together, athletic kid," one AFC college scouting director said. "It's hard to budge him unless he's taking a gap. He plays sound, he's great with his hands vs. the run. ... It's tough for double-teams to move him, and he can get slippery as a pass rusher." The comparison the college director drew? NFL Draft: Alabama's defensive front seven stacked with NFL talent (A'Shawn Robinson, DT, Junior (6-3, 312, 5.18): Despite not registering a sack in 2014, Robinson spent a lot of time in the opponent's backfield, using his first step quickness and fluidity to give blockers trouble. After a part-time role as a freshman, he became a regular starter last season and finished with 49 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, three pass break-ups, one forced fumble and one blocked kick. Robinson, who earned honorable mention All-SEC honors last year, is built like a vending machine with proportionate bulk, strength and balance to be effective as a pass rusher and run stopper.
