Plus, Za’Darius Smith, and Josh Paschal will be in the last year of their contracts in 2025. Here’s a rusher to go with Aidan Hutchinson, Smith, and Paschal. In 2024, Tuimoloau had 12.5 sacks, 61 tackles, two forced fumbles, and three passes batted. He is a solid college player but is not a game-wrecker. Some team sources think Tuimoloau (6-4, 270) could become a pro starter, and others think he is more of a backup. Tuimoloau got red hot in the college football playoff, and that has seen his stock rise into being an early-rounder. Tuimoloau totaled 38 tackles, five sacks and two passes broken in 2023. He did not provide a big edge presence for the Buckeyes. He recorded 28 tackles, 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, two interceptions, and two passes broken up in 2022. 60. Tre Harris, WR, Ole Miss: The Lions could use a third receiver to go with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams. Harris (6-3, 210) has been one of the most productive receivers in the nation in 2024 despite missing some time with an injury. In 2024, he had 60 catches for 1,030 yards and seven touchdowns. One thing the injury to Aidan Hutchinson exposed was the lack of pass-rushing depth that is on the roster, which makes Mike Green out of Marshall a potential option towards the end of the first round. 32. Landon Jackson, EDGE, Arkansas: Dan Campbell is practically the NFL’s resident professional wrestler and Jackson is one of WWE’s NIL athletes. It’s a meathead match made in heaven. But Jackson’s 270-pound frame is also not dissimilar to Aidan Hutchinson. While he isn’t the same caliber of prospect, Jackson possesses an uncanny ability to win on the outside track with accurate pass-rush hands and outrageous flexibility for his size.
64. Denzel Burke, CB, Ohio State: Aside from a nightmare-inducing first matchup against the Oregon Ducks, Burke has played well over the past two seasons for the Buckeyes. Shemar Stewart is a moldable player whose athleticism and movement ability for his size project a very high ceiling. Stewart may not be ready for heavy snaps as a rookie, but that’s fine with Alim McNeill and D.J. Reader both under contract for 2025. Eventually, Stewart could develop into the type of three-down freak that McNeill has become. That would alleviate the pressure on Hutchinson and keep the Lions’ Super Bowl window wedged open.) Savaiinaea is a tackle who can kick inside to guard or spend his first year as a Dan Skipper replacement as the team’s swing tackle/jumbo package tight end who eventually catches a touchdown pass to make the score Lions 43, Bears 10 next November. Savaiinaea’s pass blocking is ahead of his run game, which may diminish his prospects in the eyes of a roster with one of the league’s top running back tandems. While he has impressive athleticism, footwork, and length, his unnerving tendency to overset and lose the arc to rushers with more advanced outside rush moves suggests he would be best served on the interior at the NFL level. He has a powerful frame with a sturdy anchor, and he maximizes that strength with low pads and a low center of gravity. 32. Shemar Stewart, EDGE, Texas A&M: Aidan Hutchinson was leading the NFL in sacks and pressure rate when he fractured his tibia and fibula in Week 6. While he will be ready for the 2025 campaign, the Lions have to add more help around the former No. 2 overall pick. Marcus Davenport suffered a season-ending triceps injury in Week 3 and is on an expiring deal. Levi Onwuzurike has split time between DT and DE to account for Huthcinson’s absence, but he’s also a pending free agent. Acquiring Za’Darius Smith from the Browns was smart, but he’ll be 33 years old next season and in the final year of his contract. As a proactive athlete, it’s unfair to have Shemar Stewart’s blend of length, explosiveness, and density. He’s a 6’6”, 290-pound lab-built creation with untapped potential as a pass rusher and an athletic profile we haven’t seen since J.J. Watt. That’s not to say he’ll be Watt; that would be reckless. But he converts speed to power at an outstanding rate, and that is as translatable to the NFL level as pure juice and bend are.
