Best NFL Draft 2026 EDGEs: 1 stud, 1 sleeper and 1 'who's that guy?' pick (The stud: David Bailey, Texas Tech - Bailey was very good for a bad Stanford team. Then he cashed in his Cody Campbell Bux(tm), helped make Texas Tech a College Football Playoff participant and took every bit advantage of the spotlight that offered. His sack production increased from seven to 14.5, leading the FBS in the process. His 19.5 tackles for loss ranked first in the Big 12. Finally supported by an above-average cast, Bailey proved he belonged at the top of the year's draft. At 6-foot-4 and 251 pounds his bull rush won't hit the same in the pros as it did against Kent State (see the opening clip above), but he's big enough to be a stable presence on the edge who can both attack quarterbacks and hold his ground against the run. While he's got functional size/strength, his headline is lightning lateral movement and a dense array of moves with which he can keep offensive tackles swatting at ghosts. He's quick in a way that leaves the laws of physics playing catch up, teleporting with slices inside, a gorgeous low bend outside, a dervish of a spin move or simply being so fast off the line that he goads blockers into Jawaan Taylor-style false starts in hopes of staying ahead of him. That's all a great start, but what should make Bailey's transition to the NFL easier is pre-snap awareness and a relentless attack. The athletic edge has a solid read on opposing offenses and is constantly in motion, cutting down ball carriers through a combination of effort and angles. The downside lies in that size. He's not a Myles Garrett-style mutant. When blockers engage him he can be slow to detach. He'll get frozen out on run plays and teams will find ways to avoid him. 2026 NFL Draft: College Game Recaps – CFP Quarterfinal (There was a great draft matchup in this game with Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey taking on Oregon left tackle Isaiah World and right tackle Alex Harkey. Bailey looks like a top-16 pick for the 2026 NFL Draft, while World could be an early-rounder, and Harkey has mid-round potential. Overall, this tape will help Bailey, as he had his way with both Oregon blockers. Early in the first quarter, Bailey used his speed to blow by right tackle Alex Harkey and rip down Moore for a third-down sack. On the next possession, Bailey showed his explosiveness with a leaping pass breakup. Late in the second quarter on a fourth-and-goal, Bailey read a stretch play well flowing with the line and then made a leaping pass breakup to deny Oregon points. Bailey limited the Ducks’ offense with sacks, batted passes, and pressures that created turnovers. This tape was phenomenal for Bailey and could help him to go in the top-10 next April. 2026 NFL Draft: College Game Recaps – Week 15 (The 2026 NFL Draft is not a particularly strong class of talent, but one prospect that has real buzz is David Bailey. The Stanford transfer was superb this season with 12.5 sacks. Bailey was active, flying around the field, but he did not have splash plays in the Big 12 Championship Game. In the first half, Bailey showed some speed getting upfield and putting pressure on the quarterback, but he was quiet overall. Texas Tech also controlled the time of possession, and Bailey did not have a lot of opportunities. In the third quarter, Bailey destroyed a screen by flying into the backfield and getting a hit on the quarterback to force a third-down incompletion. Bailey showed good speed to get upfield, and consistent turnovers from BYU kept Bailey on the sideline. For the NFL, Bailey is a fast and athletic speed rusher, but he is undersized. Bailey (6-3, 250) shows explosion off the snap with the speed to turn the corner and eat up ground in a hurry. While Bailey is not big or powerful, he can generate enough speed and power to knock back blockers. Bailey also shows flexibility to rush from a variety of spots. He can stand over a blocker or put his hand in the ground. Bailey fights and competes in the ground game nicely on some plays, but he has limitations for the NFL, given his size. Teams like the Detroit Lions, which are looking for a base end who is big, strong, and a tough run defender who can set the edge, will not be high on Bailey. 2026 NFL Draft: College Game Recaps – Week 4 (There was a tremendous draft matchup in this game with Texas Tech edge rusher David Bailey taking on Utah offensive tackles Caleb Lomu and Spencer Fano. All three could go in the top 60 next April, and all three have a shot at being first-rounders. Overall, this tape was not very impressive for any of the three. In the second quarter, Bailey got a speed rush past a tight end to cause the quarterback to step up and avoid a sack. It looked like a missed assignment by Lomu as he double-teamed the tackle rather than helping his tight end in a one-on-one against a dangerous speed rusher. For the majority of the game, Bailey was quiet and a non-factor. Bailey had limited opportunities as the Utes’ quarterback, struggling to sustain drives and throwing some painful interceptions. Late in the fourth quarter, Bailey was being blocked by Fano when Fano peeled off Bailey to go after another edge rusher who was running free and closer to the quarterback. Bailey took advantage to chase down the quarterback for a coverage sack. The next play, Fano got off balance and grabbed Bailey to draw holding penalty. In the first quarter, Fano made a horrible mental mistake. He got too far downfield, and that negated a 69-yard touchdown pass. It was a massive mental mistake by Fano that really hurt his team. Late in the second quarter, Fano had an impressive rep on Bailey. Bailey tried to use a speed rush, but Fano cut off the corner and sustained his block to give his quarterback plenty of time to get the ball out. Just after halftime, Bailey tried running the loop around Fano with a speed rush, but Fano showed his quickness to get depth in his drop and wall off Bailey. Early in the fourth quarter, Fano paved the way with a superb block, moving his defender back and opening a running lane for a back to get into the end zone from about five yards out. Of all three, Fano was the most impressive in terms of his physical talent. Fano is quick, athletic, agile, and strong. Lomu has good athleticism, along with quickness and agility, but Lomu has some tech I'mnique issues that need to be cleaned up for the NFL to not get beaten by pro linemen. Bailey is a fast and athletic speed rusher, but he is undersized. Teams like the Detroit Lions, which are looking for a base end who is big, strong, and a tough run defender who can set the edge, will not be high on Bailey. Other teams, like the Dallas Cowboys, who like ultra-fast twitchy edge rushers, will like Bailey. None of this trio will be helped or hurt significantly by this tape.) (9-21-25):
