There are good RBs available, including Derrius Guice and Ronald Jones, but impact backs can be had on Day 2. While at his best Ansah is tough to handle, injuries have plagued him the last few years and made him largely ineffective. Davenport would be an excellent cheaper option to replace Ansah's production, but there's also a chance the big defensive lineman could be long gone by the time the Lions pick.) Walter Football Walter's Mock (20.  Sony Michel, RB, Georgia: The Lions hired Matt Patricia, so the front office obviously believes he can coach up the defensive players. Thus, it wouldn't surprise me if Detroit's initial selection is spent on an offensive weapon. Detroit's rushing attack is extremely lackluster, as Ameer Abdullah has been a major disappointment. Sony Michel would provide a massive upgrade, giving Matthew Stafford the backfield weapon he desperately wants. Michel was Georgia's best running back this past season, and I believe there's a good chance he'll be the second running back chosen in this class.  51.  Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan:  The Lions really need to focus on bolstering their pass rush, and they could use an interior presence to go along with A'Shawn Robinson.  Maurice Hurst is a tweener at 6-2, 282. He's a disruptive player, but doesn't have a defined position.  82. Jamarcus King, CB, South Carolina:  The Lions have an outstanding cornerback in Darius Slay, but they really need another strong option at the position.  113. Hercules Mata'afa, DE, Washington State:   Ziggy Ansah is Detroit's best free agent. He'll need to be replaced if he leaves via the open market. Another edge rusher wouldn't hurt regardless.  144.  Bradley Bozeman, C, Alabama:  The Lions could be losing Travis Swanson this offseason, so they'll need a replacement at center.) Draft Tek Mock Draft (20. RB Derrius Guice: For the second week in a row, the Lions are slotted with RB Derrius Guice. GM Bob Quinn has stated that the RB corps will be addressed this offseason and without any new movement on the free agency front to date for Detroit, we should assume Quinn's intention is to address the position through the draft. With notable free agent backs like Le'Veon Bell, Carlos Hyde, LaGarrette Blount, and Patriot duo Rex Burkhead and Dion Lewis on the market, the free agent running back class might be just as *stacked* as the running back draft class.  There's a lot of running backs to choose from in this draft class, but among all of the available after Barkley goes in the top 5, I firmly believe that Guice is the best to choose from. More and more draft analysts across the board are comparing him to Marshawn Lynch. Now, I'm not going to that length, as Guice has a long way to go in his pro career to prove to us he's Beast Mode in the making, but if you just watch this man run, you can see the early comparisons in his running style. Guice runs *hard* and is a master at contorting his body to break tackles and avoid the second hit by staying balanced, which is an important trait in gaining that extra yard or two. He's got the speed to burn, the anticipation to see holes develop, and the power to bulldoze. The thing I love about Guice, he doesn't dance in the backfield. Unlike the old adage in baseball, "see the ball, hit the ball", Guice sees the hole, hits the hole, and consistently gains positive yardage. Check out this lengthy, but awesome draft profile for Guice. I love this player and I hope to see his guy holding up a Lions' jersey on center stage come Draft Day.  51. S Armani Watts:  With Quinn fulfilling his promise to the fans that the Running Back position would be addressed, Patricia and Quinn team up to build the defense for the long haul with the selection of Armanti Watts. Watts, simply put, is uber-talented. Although he does miss some tackles, he has a knack for making big plays in both coverage and run support, something the Lions need as they ranked 19th overall in defense and 27th in passing yards allowed per game (243). Subjecively speaking, watching the Lions' secondary in 2017, I would not have assumed they ranked below-average on the year with Glover Quin and Darius Slay playing extremely well and getting solid contribution from Quandre Diggs. Objectively speaking, Glover Quin (32) and Tavon Wilson (27) aren't getting any younger. Diggs is not a full-time safety having only played 4 games in Wilson's injury absence. Patricia is a defensive guru who made stars out of Devin McCourty and Patrick Chung. Watts is a perfect fit for an aging secondary and for Patricia to mold him into a defensive staple for the Lions for years to come.   82. CB Donte Jackson; 114. OG Maea Teuhema; 144. Draftwire (20. DE Marcus Davenport:  Even if Ziggy Ansah were to re-sign to a long-term extension instead of hitting free agency, the Lions would need a bookend to pair him with on the other edge. Davenport is still plenty raw, but his massive frame and athleticism give him tons of potential. DraftCountdown (17. Sam Hubbard, DE, OSU: Despite the presence of Ziggy Ansah and the emergence of Anthony Zettel, the Lions still rank in the bottom third of the league in sack production.   There was such an extreme lack of depth they were forced to bring in 37-year-old Dwight Freeney mid-season to try and add a little juice. Making matters even worse, Ansah is going to be an unrestricted free agent this offseason. While it’s hard to believe they’d let him get away, another pass rusher is desperately needed in Detroit even if Ansah is retained. Hubbard is a converted safety who has maintained much of that athleticism despite bulking up. Not only is Hubbard a speedy threat off the edge but he also moves extremely well on his feet and in space. Walter Football Charlie's Mock (20. Sony Michel, RB:  The Lions have to improve their rushing attack to get some balance for their offense. Additionally, Detroit has no assurances that the top second-round backs will get to its second-round choice. Michel could quickly transform the Lions' offense and has true three-down potential.  The 5-foot-11, 215-pound Michel averaged 7.9 yards per carry in 2017 for 1,227 yards with 16 touchdowns. Michel has a ton of fans in the scouting community and was receiving second-day grades during the fall before his tremendous finish to the season. One general manager told me he thinks Michel could go late in the first round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Aside from being a quick back capable of ripping off long runs, Michel has shown well in the passing game as a receiver and blocker during his collegiate career. Michel has starting potential for the NFL with speed, strength and versatility. He also enters the pros with less wear-and-tear after splitting carries with a variety of backs at Georgia.  Michel played well in 2016 while serving as the backup to Nick Chubb. On the season, Michel took 152 carries for 840 yards - a 5.3-yard average - and four touchdowns. He also had 22 receptions for 149 yards.  51. LB Leighton Vander Esch:   The Lions could use a linebacker upgrade next to Jarrad Davis.  Vander Esch (6-4, 220) had a breakout junior season with massive production for Boise State. In 2017, he totaled 141 tackles with 8.5 tackles for a loss, four sacks, four passes broken up and three interceptions. Vander Esch was limited to six games in 2016 because of injuries. He had 27 tackles and a sack that season. Vander Esch had 20 tackles as a freshman. Vander Esch is expected to be selected in the early rounds of the 2018 NFL Draft.  82. DT Derrick Nnadi:  The Lions grab more talent for defensive tackle. Nnadi notched 53 tackles with 3.5 sacks, 10 tackles for a loss, one forced fumble and a pass batted in 2017. He played well, causing notable disruption. In 2016, Nnadi totaled 44 tackles with 9.5 tackles for a loss and 5.5 sacks on the year. The 6-foot-2, 304-pounder is at his best when he is using his speed to work upfield.  114.  Jalyn Holmes, DE:  The Lions could use more defensive end talent across from Ziggy Ansah.  It isn't easy to get snaps and playing time on the Ohio State defensive line because it is so loaded with future NFL talent. Holmes (6-4, 279) fell into that issue as defensive ends Nick Bosa, Sam Hubbard and Tyquan Lewis played more than he did. However, Holmes did well enough on a rotational basis to earn an invitation to the Senior Bowl, where he had a solid week of practice.  Holmes had 29 tackles with two sacks, one forced fumble and three passes batted in 2017. He also had two sacks in 2016. Holmes has good size and speed. His best football is ahead of him, and he could end up being a much better pro than college player.) MLive Nate Atkin's Mock (20. Da'Ron Payne, DT, Alabama: The Lions hired Matt Patricia to come in and try to take their defense to another level. He'll need better talent in the front seven, especially if Ezekiel Ansah moves on. The Lions have options here. I last gave them Boston College edge rusher Harold Landry, who is still a really good option. But Da'Ron Payne falls in this one, and the Lions did just hire his former defensive line coach in Bo Davis. Payne won't get after the passer too much early on, but he can wreck a running game. Those are the types of players the Patriots often gunned for, and it would free up Jarrad Davis to do what they brought him here for.  Depending on Landry's medicals and combine drills, he could have the bounceback to where he's the better player available.
