2025 Mock Draft Round Up #1

Walter football Charlie (32.  Detroit Lions: Jalon Walker, OLB, Georgia.  The Lions add an edge rusher to go with Aidan Hutchinson and Za’Darius Smith.  Walker is a dangerous edge rusher for the Bulldogs, showing speed and athleticism off the edge. In 2024, he has 49 tackles with 5.5 sacks and one pass broken up. Walker had five sacks as a rotational player in 2023. The 6-foot-2, 245-pounder is too undersized to be a base edge rusher in the NFL, so he will have to be a linebacker that rotates to rush off the edge in the sub package.  64. Evan Stewart, WR, Oregon.  The Lions could use another receiver to go with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams.  In 2024, Stewart has 47 receptions for 609 yards and five touchdowns. Stewart (6-0, 175) did not have a prolific season in two years with Texas A&M, but he flashed the ability to make plays. In 2023, Stewart caught 38 passes for 514 yards and four touchdowns. The Lions need a polished, well-rounded edge defender to line up across from Aidan Hutchinson, and Tuimoloau is the perfect candidate who can defend the run and get after the passer. He would have been last year, too, but another year of experience should make him even more pro-ready, and he would benefit from opposing offenses sliding protections away from him to Hutch's side.) PFN (32. Detroit Lions Princely Umanmielen, EDGE, Ole Miss:  If it feels like we’ve been down this road before with the Detroit Lions, it’s because we have. Princely Umanmielen plays with a little more natural strength than Julian Okwara, but he wins with similar explosiveness and bend.  However, we’ve spent years waiting for Umanmielen to assemble it. While he appears to have put together a nice package late in his collegiate career, that late breakout also makes his projection at the next level a bit muddy.  64. Detroit Lions Kyren Lacy, WR, LSU:  Kyren Lacy is a lot like the Rebels’ Harris, but with even less explosive potential and with an even clearer picture given the more complete route tree he’s asked to operate. NFL Thanksgiving winners and losers: Dolphins' cold-weather blues continue, Lions' defensive front dominates (Winner: Lions defensive front - The Lions as a whole did not have the most impressive performance in the win over the Bears, but this defensive front was dominant. Not only did Detroit hold D'Andre Swift to 39 yards on 11 carries, but according to Next Gen Stats, Za'Darius Smith (8), Al-Quadin Muhammad (7) and DJ Reader (7) all set or tied season highs in pressures. This was just the second game this season a team has had three players with seven or more pressures. NFL overreactions: Williams to blame over Eberflus? (Lions are fortunate to still have No. 1 seed in NFC - Overreaction or reality: Reality.  The Lions still have the No. 1 seed in the NFC, controlling their own destiny in the conference after Thursday's win over the Bears. No matter what the Eagles do on Sunday, the Lions will have the top seed in the conference by a full game (and the conference-record tiebreaker since they have one conference loss to the Eagles' two). Things could have gotten really murky if the Lions would have lost to the Bears, and there was a good chance of that happening. The Bears were at the Lions' 13-yard line with 40 seconds left and appeared ready to score the winning touchdown, not kick a tying field goal. Despite Teven Jenkins getting an illegal use of hands penalty to back the Bears up to the Lions' 35-yard line, they still had enough time to get the yards needed for an easier field attempt from Cairo Santos. Then the clock management chaos ensued, leaving the Lions off the hook for what looked to be a late-game collapse. The Lions should have put this game away in the first half, going 1-for-3 in the red zone and kicking two field goals. Detroit only led 16-0 at halftime despite scoring on all four possessions and outgaining Chicago 279-53. The Lions were still holding on to the lead late, but a missed 45-yard field goal by Jake Bates in the fourth quarter also gave the Bears life. Detroit finished 2 of 5 in the red zone in a game the Lions dominated.  At the end of the day, a win is a win. The Lions are 11-1, but they dodged a bullet and a major collapse in the process. NFL Week 13: What We Learned from Thanksgiving Day tripleheader (Bears at Lions. 1. Uncharacteristic Lions get lucky. Detroit delivered a beatdown everywhere but the scoreboard in the first half, as Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery combined for 141 rushing yards with the offense moving at will to the tune of 279 yards. The Lions offense, ranked first in scoring entering the day, continually stalled in the red zone, though, with four first-half trips resulting in a field goal, touchdown, field goal and fumble. That fumble, a Gibbs mishap at the end of what looked like a possible run for six in the final minute of the second quarter, proved the turning point. Chicago gained some momentum on the ensuing possession and carried it into the second half down just 16-0 despite being thoroughly outplayed. Meanwhile, the Lions completely lost their mojo outside of a third-quarter TD. Gibbs and Monty contributed just 34 more rushing yards on the other side of the half, Jared Goff managed only 76 more passing yards and the defense gave up a whole lot more (248). Detroit, head-scratchingly lackluster, would normally put games like this away early. The Lions still hung on to win as good teams do, but that was as much a credit to the Bears being a bad team and self-sabotaging.  2. Bears turn around abysmal start to lose self-inflicted heartbreaker. Against all odds, Chicago found another way to crush its fans. Caleb Williams overcame a disastrous start, flipping a switch in the second half to throw for 256 passing yards and three touchdowns. He looked spectacular more often than not, while Keenan Allen kept up a late-season revival with two of those scores. And the defense was clutch despite giving up over 400 yards. It repeatedly tightened in the red zone during the first half before tightening overall in the fourth, allowing Detroit just 48 total yards in the final frame. Those silver linings, which gave Chicago a shot to complete a possible 16-point comeback, won’t mean much after what took place. Down three points, the Bears drove from their 1-yard line into Detroit territory, but following a sack near midfield with 32 seconds left, inexplicably failed to snap the ball again until six seconds remained. Williams then sailed a desperate heave into the ground near the end zone, and it was over. They had a timeout to use either before or after that play had they showed appropriate urgency. Even before that, the Bears committed three bad penalties during the possession. Chicago is now losers of six in a row, a streak this includes a failed Hail Mary defense against the Commanders, a blocked game-winning field-goal attempt against the Packers, an overtime loss to the Vikings and now this.  3. Detroit barely gets the monkey (turkey?) off its back. It had been seven long years since the Lions were able to enjoy a victory on Thanksgiving. That’s a losing streak that predated the arrival of Dan Campbell and Jared Goff, but the coach-QB duo still contributed to it by going 0-3 in past attempts. On Thursday, they finally got off the schneid, giving them a reason to celebrate even if they’ll be far more happy with the result than the process. Despite leading wire to wire, Campbell’s crew was strangely sloppy on offense and allowed their first second-half points (20) since Week 9. After five of their first six drives went nine or more plays, their final three failed to eclipse five. Nonetheless, the Lions have now won their 10th game in a row while toppling another torturous statistic on losing. NFL Week 13 Recap: Who’s Up, Who’s Down, What’s Next for Every Team (Lions 23, Bears 20 - My take: If there’s a takeaway from this game, it’s that Matt Eberflus shouldn't be allowed to board the team plane. Chicago (4–8) somehow turned an easy field-goal opportunity into being on the edge of Cairo Santos’s range with a penalty and a sack. Then, somehow, the Bears ended the game with Caleb Williams heaving a pass as the clock ran out, despite Chicago having a timeout. Detroit (11–1) escaped largely due to the Bears being incompetent, and also because the Lions ran the ball for 194 yards on 5.9 yards per carry. Stock up: Detroit continues to win because the offense is a juggernaut. The Lions ran up 405 yards and 25 first downs, largely doing whatever they wanted against the Bears. NFL Game Recaps: Week 13 (Lions 23, Bears 20:  This result was unbelievable because the Lions looked like they were going to blow the Bears out of the water. They completely dominated the opening half. They moved the chains with ease, scoring on four separate drives. They weren’t as efficient in the red zone as usual, however, so they settled for three field goals. They also had a turnover inside the Chicago 5-yard line when Jahmyr Gibbs saw the ball pop out of his hands. Still, this was a lopsided affair in which Chicago didn’t take a single snap in the red zone until there was a minute remaining in the third quarter.  The Lions led 16-0 at halftime. The score could have easily been 23-0, or even 27-0, but they still had full control. Somehow, they scored just seven points in the second half. They saw Sam LaPorta drop a deep pass along the sideline and Jameson Williams ruin a drive with a taunting penalty. Meanwhile, the Bears started to claw back, slowly but surely. Caleb Williams, who spent the entire first half throwing incompletions and taking sacks, suddenly began connecting with Keenan Allen and D.J. Moore. Before long, this was a 23-20 game.  Detroit managed to pin Chicago down to its 1-yard line, but Williams got out of the bad situation with more completions to his top two receivers. The Bears moved into field goal range when the audience was able to watch one of the most befuddling sequences in NFL history. Williams took a sack on second down, but Chicago still had one timeout remaining. Instead of using it, or hurrying a play, the Bears opted to take their time getting back to the line of scrimmage, where Williams spent extra seconds signaling a play to his teammates. Williams snapped the ball with seven seconds remaining and took a deep shot. The pass took all seven seconds, and time expired. The Bears lost the game with one timeout in their back pocket while in field goal range.The Lions didn’t cover, somehow, but still won their first Thanksgiving game in the Jared Goff era. Their second-half malaise was a bit troubling and reminded me a bit of their collapse versus San Francisco last January.  The Bears are now 4-8, but could be 8-4 if it weren’t for a quartet of late-game disasters. CBS Grades (Grades - C+.  The Lions had a chance to run away with this game in the first half, but they could't get anything done in the red zone, which allowed the Bears to stay in the game. The Lions only scored on two touchdowns on five trips to the red zone and that's something they're going to have to clean up if they want to hold on to the No. 1 seed in the NFC. The Lions also took a Thanksgiving nap in the second half, because they appeared to be sleep-walking through the final two quarters. The Lions got several uncharacteristic mistakes from players like Jahmyr Gibbs (who lost a fumble) and Jake Bates (who missed his first field goal of the year). The Lions rushing attack disappeared in the second half with just 50 yards and that's a big reason why the offense slowed down. Week 13 Predictions

PFN Rolfe (Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (-10.5):  On the surface, everything suggests that backing the Detroit Lions here is the right play. They are on top of our Power Rankings+ metric by some distance and rank above the Chicago Bears in all phases of the game while playing a harder schedule. They are 4-1 against the spread (ATS) at home and 9-2 ATS on the entire season.  However, the Bears have been a tough opponent for the Vikings and Packers in consecutive weeks. Chicago covered in both games, and it’s clear the Bears have stepped up their plate from their woeful run coming out of the bye week.  With that said, the Lions are a step above those two teams, and both of those games were played in Chicago. The short week should favor the better head coach (Dan Campbell) and the veteran quarterback (Jared Goff), but there’s a risk Detroit looks past this game with a huge matchup against Green Bay next Thursday. Additionally, the Lions have not won on Thanksgiving since 2016, with the Bears beating them three times on Turkey Day since then.  History tells you not to back the Lions on Thanksgiving, but this is a different level of team to the one we’ve seen in recent years. I like Detroit to win, but covering over 10 points makes me nervous on the short week, so the best option would be to look to tease this game down to around 4.5 or five points and pair it with under 54. The Bears' defense is still formidable, ranking right behind the Lions in turnovers forced and in the top 10 in scoring at 19.7 points allowed per game, but have been susceptible to the run, which does not set up well against Detroit.
