This was not a good game for the Lions. There were some bright spots, but more bad than good.
I'll start on offense with the QBs. I thought Stafford looked decent. He didn't make any super spectacular highlight throws, but he was accurate and didn't make any mistakes. I like that he spread the ball around, but he needs to do a better job of getting the ball to CJ early in the game. In two of the three games, CJ didn't see the ball until the third drive. That can't happen in the regular season. Other than the scoring drive, Hill looked bad. His throws were inaccurate and he didn't have much zip on the ball. He did a nice of running for some yards. If Stafford goes down for any amount of time, it won't be pretty. Moore was unimpressive again. His throws are bad and he just doesn't look comfortable out there.
Running game - What running game? It was awful last night. Leshoure was unimpressive. The announcers were really hyping him up, but he looked below average. Ya he broke a couple tackles, but he couldn't capitalize. He had 1 yd on 5 carries. Smith didn't look any better either. He looked like the Smith of old. Keiland Williams looked the best out of the bunch. With Smith and Leshoure being injured, it'll be interesting to see if the Lions give Ryan Grant a call or perhaps Maurice Morris. I think they do need to add someone else.
WRs and TEs - Burleson looked good out there. They finally decided to use him and he was the best WR for the Lions yesterday. He made some nice catches and looked good on the end around. He did a better job of running the ball than our RBs. Scheffler also looked good. He too made a couple nice catches. Broyles looked good again. He caught the passes that were thrown to him. Lance Long made some nice plays.
O-line - They were solid overall, but didn't help our running game too much. Reiff took a bad penalty and wasn't as good yesterday as the previous games.
Special Teams - Our special teams was much better yesterday. Our return game was better without Logan. Greene and Hughes both had some nice returns to help out the offense. I'd like to see more of Titus Young on punt returns. Our coverage unit was much better too. No big returns and we even pinned them back a couple times.
Defense - Our secondary was bad. Bentley got beat, Houston got beat, Alphonso Smith was awful, Lacey was bad. If Houston and Bentley are out, the Lions secondary will be in big trouble. The D-line didn't get enough pressure on the QB. Suh had the one sack to start the game, but after that the Lions didn't really get any pressure on the QBs. The defense gave up way too many yards, over 500. Pryor looked like a HOF out there. It scares me to think what Rodgers and any other good QB will do against our defense. There were some bright spots on defense. The defense did get some turnovers that unfortunately our offense couldn't take advantage of. Willie Young continues to be impressive. Also Tulloch looked good too. He made a couple great plays.
Overall, the Lions looked sloppy and unprepared. This just was not a good game. Hopefully the injuries aren't serious. This is why I wanted the Lions to do more to address the secondary and RB positions.
