NFC players at a crossroads (Detroit Lions - Calvin Johnson, WR: Johnson, who turns 30 in September, is still considered as the gold standard for wide receivers even though others have been more productive during the last two seasons while he has been hampered by injuries. His 1,077 receiving yards in 2014 were his lowest total since 2009. For first time since his rookie season in 2007, Johnson wasn’t Detroit’s leading receiver statistically. Free agent pickup Golden Tate led the team with 99 receptions and 1,331 receiving yards. Johnson has a $24 million salary cap number and $15.95 million salary in 2016, which are considerably more than the rest of the wide receiver market. Larry Fitzgerald (Arizona Cardinals) andDemaryius Thomas (Denver Broncos) have the next highest 2016 cap number and salary at $15.85 million and $13 million, respectively. It wouldn’t be a surprise for the Lions to approach Johnson for a pay cut in 2016 like the Cardinals did with Fitzgerald early this offseason unless he has the type of season that’s been expected from him when healthy.
