PFW's Draft Options: Safety (Mid-round value: The depth of the safety class of 2018 isn't great. Penn State's Troy Apke made a name for himself with a blazing 40 at the Combine and uses that speed to close on plays in game action. Virginia Tech's Terrell Edmunds has impressive measurables and versatile upside for the back end. Louisiana's Tracy Walker plays with an aggressive style and has enough speed to at least be an option in the kicking game, while Texas' DeShon Elliot is more of a physical presence at the position.) NFL Draft: Tier 3 Safeties (11. TRACY WALKER, Louisiana-Lafayette (6-1, 206):  Walker was a four-year starter who finished his career with 276 tackles, eight interceptions, 34 passes defensed and two forced fumbles. As a senior, he had a career-high 97 tackles, 3.5 tackles for losses, eight passes defensed and two interceptions. The tackles and passes defensed set career highs; Walker’s career high for interception came as a junior with three. Despite all of the college experience, he’s still relatively new to the sport, having not played it until his junior year of high school.  At the Combine, he ran his 40 in 4.51 but put up more modest numbers on the bench (14), vertical (33), shuttle (4.28) and three-cone (7.00). He was effective in regular action in the slot. With 33 1/2-inch arms, he might be worth a look at corner.  “Definitely me coming from a smaller school, definitely I have to show a lot more,” he said. “I don’t come from a Florida State or Texas A&M, so I’m here for a reason and I’m definitely going to use the time here to showcase my talents. I feel like I’m just as good as any other safety, so I just got to prove it now.”) (4-25-18):  https://www.scout.com/Article/Green-Bay-Packers-NFL-Draft-Preview-Tier-3-Safeties-117677630

Pro Day (there is a picture of Lions DB coach working out Walker) (Defensive back Tracy Walker did not take part in the 40-yard dash or the shuttle drills as he opted to let his numbers from February’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis stand for themselves. Walker, who was the only Cajun invited to the Combine and only one who took part in the East-West Shrine Game, is projected to be a late-round draft pick but he isn’t the only one that could receive an invite to a camp or be signed as an undrafted free agent.) 5 Shrine Game week standouts who can help Texans right away (Tracy Walker, safety, Louisiana Lafayette:  A productive tackler for the Ragin’ Cajuns who logged starting reps all four years, Walker proved more responsible and rangier in coverage than he showed on film. He’s athletic enough to have taken some reps at running back, and it’s easy to see how he uses that to sniff out where the RB is looking to run.  Walker’s performance in the actual game was uneven: a dropped INT and a facemask penalty on the same drive, but two strong tackles and another PD otherwise. Even more appealing for the Texans: at this point, it seems unlikely Walker will be drafted, but rather a priority free agent.) (1-20-18):

Week 11 risers and Sliders (Sliders - Tracy Walker/S/Louisiana-Lafayette: Walker was graded as a potential second-day pick by scouts before the season, but on film he looks like a last-day player. There’s nothing outstanding about his game. Walker is a solid run defender (59 tackles in nine games) and a solid pass defenders (two INTs this season), yet his play does not warrant a second-day grade.)
