COMBINE NEWS AND NOTES: DAY 4 (Nauta in My House - After arriving in Indianapolis, Georgia TE Isaac Nauta admitted to reporters that he had received a “return to school” recommendation, but decided to gamble on himself with a draft declaration anyway. He may be regretting that decision, now. As much as Fant and Hockenson found success in testing, Nauta found only desolation and failure. He ran a lineman-sluggish 4.91-second 40-yard dash (third-worst for a TE) and posted a 28-inch vertical jump (worst), a 7.45-second three-cone drill (worst) and a 4.43-second 20-yard shuttle (fifth-worst). Oh dear. Just oh dear.  Nauta came to Georgia as a five-star recruit, but never truly blossomed in Athens, with last season’s 30-430-3 receiving line his best at the collegiate level. Any talk of Nauta being a better player in the pros than with Bulldogs took on serious, serious water on Saturday. Nauta’s measurements (6-foot-3 and 244 pounds) and bench press were fine (19), but his times indicate he’s a bit slower than many thought.  He was never going to outrun defenses, but a 4.92 40-yard dash and 7.45 3-cone split were disappointing for the former Georgia product.  On film, he showed average athleticism, but the lack of speed begs the question of if he’s only a short yardage option in the NFL, which could hinder his draft stock.) Nauta is yet another balanced tight end who can block inline as well as be a mismatch in the seam. NCAA 2018 All Conference Championship Team (TIGHT END - Isaac Nauta, Georgia (Conference Championship Grade: 78.1):  While Oklahoma’s Grant Calcaterra had the biggest moment from the weekend with his one-handed touchdown grab, Nauta was tough for Alabama to cover all game long, hauling in all four targeted passes for 81 yards and a touchdown. Scout's Eye: Top NFL Prospects to Watch in Week 9 (TE Isaac Nauta, Georgia, JR (6-4, 246, 4.74, #18): Widely considered the top tight end prospect coming out of the IMG Academy a few years back, Nauta burst onto the scene with an impressive freshman season, catching 29 balls for 361 receiving yards; it appeared he was destined to be a future first-round draft pick. However, lackadaisical practice habits and Georgia's limited use of the tight ends in the passing attack had limited Nauta's opportunities. He has had a bit of a resurgence this season, showing much improvement in his pass protection, while once again becoming a pass-catching threat. He enters the game with 13 catches for 176 yards and one touchdown, while gaining an additional touchdown via the ground on a 31-yard score. His size, along with his improved ability to block and catch, will garner him an NFL look as a possible late-round target.)
