Articles:

Greg Cosell's draft preview: Are there any starting QBs outside the top two? (Brandon Bridge, South Alabama: What consistently stood out about Bridge was I saw NFL throws, throws that demand velocity and accuracy at the intermediate and deeper levels. He is willing to turn it loose and make throws into tight windows, and that’s a positive trait as you transition to the NFL. Bridge made many big-time throws versus Mississippi State, the highest caliber competition he faced all season; he played with poise and composure. He has a naturally powerful arm and can throw with anticipation, especially to the outside. Bridge may have the naturally strongest arm in this year’s draft class, a very strong combination of an instant snap release and a powerful arm. Bridge can sit on his back foot and drive the ball at the intermediate levels, which is a very important trait to play in the NFL. He does need a lot of work within the pocket. Bridge has a tendency to climb the pocket and reduce his functional space, creating his own pressure. He is not very comfortable in the pocket at this point. He will move too soon after he perceives pressures at times and breaks down. Bridge can be erratic with his ball location. He is not a precise thrower and also has a tendency to throw every pass at the same speed. He needs to develop more touch at the short to intermediate levels. Footwork on both his drop and set needs to be tightened, because at times that leads to rushed throws and erratic accuracy. Bridge has a lot of traits you look for in a starting NFL quarterback, but he needs much refinement as a passer and a much better intuitive understanding of how to work in the pocket.) 2015 NFL Draft: WR Tre McBride among 2015 Firstborn Favorites (Mid-to-Late Rounds (4th-7th rounds) - Brandon Bridge, South Alabama (6-4, 229, 4.72) -- Affectionately nicknamed "Baby Kaep" because his raw traits that are reminiscent of a Colin Kaepernick, Bridge has a rocket arm and the traits worth developing. He isn't ready to see NFL snaps, but in the late rounds, Bridge comes at a discounted price.) O'HARA'S DRAFT PREVIEW: Quarterbacks (Brandon Bridge, South Alabama: Bridge took a circuitous route to South Alabama – from a prep in suburban Toronto to Alcorn State and finally to South Alabama, where he was a backup in 2013 and a starter in nine of the 11 games he played in 2014. He put up modest 2014 stats – 15 TD passes, eight interceptions, 53-percent completion rate – but his athleticism will get him a look from some team.) NFL draft positional rankings: Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota at QB? (Player who will go undrafted but shouldn't - Bridge:  Remember Aaron Brooks? Bridge bears some similarity to the strong-armed, athletic and erratic quarterback who started 93 NFL games (and threw 92 interceptions) and could be worth a late gamble. Bridge’s accuracy is even more of a worry than that of Brooks, a 56-percent career passer, and he might be 2-3 years away from even contributing. But Bridge has some really intriguing talents for a patient team that might be willing to let him develop over multiple seasons.) 2015 NFL Draft positional overviews (Biggest sleeper: South Alabama's Brandon Bridge. Bridge is a Canadian who began his career at FCS member Alcorn State before deciding to transfer. He started for one season at South Alabama and has dual-threat ability. He is raw and needs a lot of technique work, but his size (6-5, 229) and strong arm probably mean he will be given a chance to sit on a bench (and in the film room) and learn how to be an NFL quarterback. The upside is intriguing.) (4-15-15): Quarterbacks:   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000485360/article/2015-nfl-draft-the-skinny-on-this-years-quarterbacks

2015 NFL Draft: Rang's Diamonds in the Rough (Brandon Bridge, South Alabama, 6-4, 229, 4.72: A native Canadian, Bridge struggled to get attention from American recruiters out of high school despite guiding his team (St. Marcellinus in Mississauga, Ontario) to back-to-back league championships. One of the few programs to offer Bridge a scholarship as a quarterback was D-II Alcorn State, where Bridge played for two years before making the jump to South Alabama. He appeared in 11 games last year with the Jaguars, completing 160 of 307 passes (52.1 percent) for 1,927 yards with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also ran 297 yards and four TDs. Like many of the others prospects on this list, Bridge's path to the NFL isn't traditional but he's big, athletic and may just have the strongest arm of any quarterback in this class. Bridge is attempting to be the first Canadian-born quarterback to be drafted since the New York Giants made former Florida standout (and current ESPN analyst) Jesse Palmer a fourth-round pick in 2001.) (4-13-15):   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/25147084/nfl-draft-rangs-diamonds-in-the-rough

Looking at quarterback prospects in 2015 draft for Detroit Lions (Brandon Bridge, South Alabama (6-4, 229): He has ideal size and arm strength for an NFL quarterback but would be a developmental project. He rates as the No. 10 quarterback prospect and No. 302 overall prospect. He didn't put up the best numbers his senior year at South Alabama, completing 160 of 307 passes for 1,927 yards, 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He also rushed for 297 yards and four touchdowns.) (4-9-15):   http://espn.go.com/blog/detroit-lions/post/_/id/16444/looking-at-quarterback-prospects-in-the-2015-draft-for-the-detroit-lions?ex_cid=espnapi_public

2015 NFL Draft: Top five sleeper quarterback prospects (4. Brandon Bridge, South Alabama:  Bridge's size and arm strength are just what the NFL is looking for, and it's hard to find that combination late in the draft. Bridge's issue is mechanics, and the inaccuracy that has resulted. He completed barely more than 50 percent of his passes on the season and will need a lot of work under a good quarterback coach before his game is ready to leave the garage. Still, he has the needed traits that can't be coached, and therein lies hope. NFL fit: New York Giants. Eli Manning hasn't missed a regular-season start in 10 years, making it harder for the club to really know what it has behind him.) Beyond Jameis and Marcus: Ranking draft's top 10 QBs (8. Brandon Bridge, South Alabama: Pull up a random game from Bridge's college days and you have about a 50/50 shot of seeing his potential. There were outings last season in which the 6'4" Bridge gave defenses nightmares: 137 yards rushing and three total touchdowns against Georgia State, or 339 yards passing and three touchdowns against Appalachian State. There also were days when it seemed as if he had just started playing quarterback that week. Bridge has so much of what the NFL desires in terms of size and athleticism. Unfortunately, he's also a total crapshoot as a passer, showing minimal touch and untamed technique.  Draft projection: Seventh round.) Josh Keatley’s QB Rankings (12. Brandon Bridges, South Alabama, 6-4, 229 lbs.: Another developmental prospect that has a decent enough arm to eventually become a reliable back-up. Bridges has many tools scouts look for in a passer, including the athletic ability to be a dual-threat option.) (3-31-15):   http://www.detroitlionsdraft.com/2015/03/josh-keatleys-qb-rankings/

Dolphins tight end coach gets good look at South Alabama's Saxton (Quarterback Brandon Bridge (6-foot-4 5/8, 230 pounds) stood on his numbers from the NFL Scouting Combine. Bridge had a good positional workout. He has lots of upside and just needs to get some experience as a developmental prospect.) QBs 2015 Combine Stock Report (Brandon Bridge is a potential late-round quarterback sleeper. He'll probably be chosen on the third day, but some team could get a steal. Bridge displayed good athleticism (4.72 40) and a strong arm in the field drills, as Charlie Campbell noted in his NFL Combine field drills recap.) (2-24-15):   http://walterfootball.com/combine2015stockQB.php

QBs 2015 Combine Field Drills Recap (South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge (6-4, 229) showed that he can spin the football. Bridge has a strong arm and looked athletic with a quality 40 time at 4.72. On the third day of the draft, Bridge could be a developmental pick and used the Combine to help get himself consideration for a late-round pick.) (2-21-15):   http://walterfootball.com/combine2015workoutQB.php

2015 NFL Combine: 5 takeaways from QB interviews (Growing up in Canada and playing at Alcorn State and South Alabama, the strong-armed Bridge has to answer level of competition questions.  He cited the wide fields and weather in Canada as reasons why his arm strength has developed.   "I would definitely say that [the wide fields] did because every throw is pretty much a far throw," Bridge said. "If you want to throw a boundary hitch, that's pretty much like a field hitch on an NFL or NCAA field and the weather is always windy and stuff."   The 6-foot-4, 229 pound Bridge only started one season and his numbers (51.9% completion ratio, 14 TDs vs. six interceptions) were far from eye-popping over 10 games. His size, athleticism and plus arm has already drawn plenty of interest, however. Bridge said he's already met informally with Arizona, Philadelphia, the Detroit Lions, Indianapolis Colts, New York Jets and San Diego Chargers. He also mentioned that he has a formal meeting tomorrow with Miami.) (2-19-15):   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/25074290/nfl-combine-5-takeaways-from-quarterback-interviews

Walterfootball QB Weigh-In Analysis (South Alabama quarterback Brandon Bridge has gotten some buzz, and he showed off the body of an NFL quarterback. At 6-foot-4, 229 pounds, Bridge has the height and bulk of a starter. His hand size (9 1/2) is adequate enough as well.) (2-19-15):    http://walterfootball.com/combine2015weighinQB.php

Bridge hopes to fly direct into NFL (2-19-15):   http://www.ottawasun.com/2015/02/19/air-canada-brandon-bridge-hopes-to-fly-direct-into-nfl-like-rypien-and-palmer

Mayock thoughts on 21 players (On South Alabama QB Brandon Bridge: "Brandon Bridge is interesting. I saw him make a comment that said he could extend plays and he had the best arm of anybody at the combine. He's got a live arm. He's got a whip -- 6-5. I'm anxious to watch him throw. He's a project. He's very raw. He has no clue what he's doing. I watched -- I think it was his Navy game. He brought them back and almost won the game late, lost on a two-point conversion. He's got a whip; it's just he has no idea what he's doing yet." Combine workout day: Saturday.) Bridge is one option for the Packers (2-15-15):   http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/south-alabamas-brandon-bridge-offers-speed-strength-distance-b99442075z1-291474691.html

Zierlein: 5 game stars to watch closely at NFL combine (Bridge has very little starting experience and he has what I call "coin-flip accuracy" on his passes (receivers have no idea where the ball will go when it leaves his hand). Bridge also has a slingshot for a throwing arm with an ability to feather in accurate, catchable deep balls to his receivers in stride. He's big and should test well at the combine, but needs to show improvement with his footwork and touch in passing drills.) (2-13-15):   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000470260/article/zierlein-five-gamefilm-favorites-to-watch-closely-at-combine

7 sleepers could break out at the Combine (When looking for a developmental quarterback, why not go big? Measuring in at 6-5, 235 pounds with upper-echelon arm strength, Bridge might be a tantalizing option for a team with patience. His mechanics will need to be overhauled, but he won’t be a costly investment.)(2-17-15):   http://q.usatoday.com/2015/02/17/nfl-combine-draft-sleepers/

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler believes South Alabama senior QB Brandon Bridge is a "worthy developmental QB prospect" in this years draft. ("I am glad SouthAlabama QB Brandon Bridge will be in Indy. One of the few worthy developmental QB prospects in this draft class," Brugler tweeted. Earlier this year, an AFC North scout praised Bridge's physical abilities but questioned whether the game came "naturally" to the 6-foot-5, 235-pound senior. Still, Bridge's physical abilities are tantalizing and he could end up a middle-round draft pick for a team looking for a project.) 2015 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl Notebook (Brandon Bridge of South Alabama is an intriguing prospect as well. He completed 3 of 5 passes for 51 yards in limited action, but he has some good tools. The former Alcorn State signal-caller from Canada has very good size, a strong arm and nice mobility. He just happens to be very raw and must continue to work hard and push to improve his football IQ.) (1-19-15):   http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2015-nflpa-collegiate-bowl-notebook/

South Alabama senior QB Brandon Bridge completed 3-of-5 passes for 51 yards and no touchdowns in Saturday's NFLPA Collegiate Bowl. (Bridge added one rush for nine yards in the contest. The senior is a prototypical "tools guy," with a big arm and elite athleticism, but a long way to go in the passing game. He completed just 52% of his passes during the 2014 campaign. Earlier this year, an AFC North scout praised Bridge's physical abilities but questioned whether the game came "naturally" to the 6-foot-5, 235-pound senior. Still, Bridge's physical abilities are tantalizing and he could end up a middle-round draft pick for a team looking for a project.) (1-18-15):   http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=CFB&id=132330&line=38776&spln=1

South Alabama senior QB Brandon Bridge completed 20-of-37 attempts for 279 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, and rushed for 41 yards and a touchdown in a 33-28 loss to Bowling Green on Saturday in the Camelia Bowl. (Bridge was the victim of a comedy of drops, and he complained on the sidelines at one point that his receivers weren't running the correct routes, according to the ESPN broadcast team. For his part, Bridge consistently wasn't setting his feet in the pocket. To be fair to both parties, the Jags recently hired new OC Bryant Vincent, the former UAB OC, and trotted out a new scheme on short notice. Vincent, it should be added, admitted he hadn't had time to watch South Alabama film, so he obviously didn't have a great handle on his personnel. Bridge has an NFL-grade gun, and NFL-grade athleticism, but he's about as raw as they come, with happy feet and a propensity to fire fastballs to nearby receivers expecting changeups. CBS projects the signal-caller as a mid-to-late round draft pick. "The ball shoots off his hand and he has some traits you cannot teach," an AFC North scout said earlier this year. "I'm just not sure how naturally the game comes to him.") (12-2-14):   http://www.rotoworld.com/content/playerpages/playerbreakingnews.asp?sport=CFB&id=132330&line=37927&spln=1

Week 7 Risers and Sliders (Bridge is building a real buzz inside war rooms. One league source compared his physical skills to Colin Kaepernick’s as Bridge has the arm strength to make all the throws as well as the leg speed to make big plays running the ball. When questioned about his rather ordinary completion percentage of 55% this season I was told there have been 40 recorded drops of catchable passes by South Alabama targets this season.) (10-3-14):   http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=10086

Week 3 Stock Report (South Alabama has never had a player taken in the NFL Draft, but between Bridge and TE Wes Saxon, I bet that changes next spring. An Alcorn State transfer, Bridge is in his first season as the Jaguars' starter and although his stat sheet against Mississippi State on Saturday wasn't overly impressive, he showed an intriguing skill-set that is starting to create some buzz in the scouting community.
Bridge finished Saturday's game 21-for-39 (53.8 percent) for 203 yards, no touchdowns and one interception as South Alabama fell to the Bulldogs, 35-3. Facing a fast, tough SEC defense, the Canadian native did a nice job scanning from the pocket and pushing the ball downfield with talent that reminds me of a less refined Colin Kaepernick. Bridge is tall and lean with a rocket launcher on his right shoulder like the 49ers quarterback and has more than enough velocity on his passes to toss ropes to all levels of the field. He lacks ideal experience, but shows a good understanding of situations and field awareness, playing under control of the offense with a quick processor to read the field then grip it and rip it. Bridge needs to tighten his mechanics, improve his pocket presence and sharpen his ball placement, but from a tools perspective, he has intriguing talent worth developing. I expect Bridge to be in the mix for a Senior Bowl invitation and it won't be surprising when he starts to "rise" up draft boards over the next few months.) 2015 NFL Draft Preview: QB Brett Hundley:   http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2015-nfl-draft-preview-qb-brett-hundley/

Articles:

Greg Cosell's draft preview: Are there any starting QBs outside the top two? (Brett Hundley, UCLA: Hundley flashed NFL traits at times, so it’s there on film, but overall he was very inconsistent in his execution of those traits. He is a a raw and unrefined player who needs a lot of work and a lot of coaching but has traits and attributes (such as being a big, fluid athlete with ability to make outside-of-structure plays) that can transition effectively. All of this will make him a polarizing player in NFL draft rooms. Hundley is not a natural thrower, with consistently poor lower body mechanics that negatively impact delivery, though he does have a naturally strong arm. Hundley did not show good awareness in the pocket, and did not feel and react well to bodies around him. He was too quick to leave the pocket and not comfortable with the needed patience of a timed passing game. He is not a progression reader at this point, and is slow to get through his reads. He does not have an intuitive internal clock in the pocket, and it's hard to be an NFL starter without that. Though, at times he showed the ability to throw with anticipation and precise ball placement, and I saw some excellent throws, including outside void in "Cover 2," back shoulder throws, and fade passes dropped right into the bucket. There will be a long learning curve for Hundley and he may never get there. He must be drafted after the second round so the early expectations are low.) Get to know the draft's most intriguing prospects (Brett Hundley, UCLA: Entering the 2014 college football season, Hundley was regarded as the third-best quarterback in this year’s draft class, behind Winston and Mariota. Eight months later, not much has changed. He is projected roughly around the same spot, an intriguing dual-threat talent who is raw in several facets. But there is more to know about Hundley than that he threw for more than 3,000 yards in each season he was the starter. For example, he is a spokesman for the Epilepsy Foundation, as his older sister, Paris, was diagnosed with the condition at age 11. And he will hurl footballs at you for rule breaking, as he apparently fancies himself a tame, less-entertaining version of Terry Tate, Office Linebacker.  And give Hundley this: He didn’t fall victim to the gross eye black misuse that plagued much of UCLA’s roster throughout the 2014 season.  Video inside) (4-27-15):   http://www.si.com/nfl/2015/04/27/2015-nfl-draft-prospect-facts-brett-hundley-ameer-abdullah

O'HARA'S DRAFT PREVIEW: Quarterbacks (Brett Hundley, UCLA:Hundley helped lead UCLA’s resurgence under head coach Jim L. Mora, with 10-3 records the last two years and 9-5 in 2012. From 2012-14 Hundley had seasons of 29, 24 and 22 TD passes with only 25 interceptions combined, and his lowest completion rate was 66.6 percent in 2012. Hundley is somewhat of a developmental project who could get drafted higher than his talent warrants, but he could be some team’s starter with the right coach – and enough patience from the front office.) NFL draft positional rankings: Jameis Winston or Marcus Mariota at QB? (Overrated - Hundley:  Hundley has almost everything you’re looking for, including size, athleticism, arm strength and character. But Hundley can be a frustrating player to watch, one who seldom made tangible gains in his game despite three years of starting for the Bruins. A lot of his production was inflated in their short-pass, yards-after-catch offense, and he struggled when forced to make full-field reads from under center. More than one scout has noted the comparisons to Jason Campbell, a college winner with traits who teased but never turned into a quality NFL starter.) (4-15-15):   http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/nfl-shutdown-corner/nfl-draft-positional-rankings--jameis-winston-or-marcus-mariota-at-qb-145216425.html

2015 NFL Draft positional overviews (Most overrated: UCLA's Brett Hundley. Hundley toyed with the idea of turning pro after his redshirt sophomore season in 2013 but came back for his junior season in an effort to improve as a quarterback. Truthfully, he didn't improve all that much, and the issues he had in 2013 remain. Hundley is a good athlete who runs the read-option quite well and has a nice arm. But considering his mobility, he takes way too many sacks, an offshoot of not being decisive in the pocket. He hasn't shown he can be a pocket passer, and that should scare NFL teams. Can he become one? Certainly. He is smart and athletic, but it will take a while -- it also might never happen.) (4-15-15): Quarterbacks:   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000485360/article/2015-nfl-draft-the-skinny-on-this-years-quarterbacks

Beyond Jameis and Marcus: Ranking draft's top 10 QBs (3. Brett Hundley, UCLA: A popular mantra come draft time: "It only takes one team to fall in love with a player." In other words, even if 31 franchises have their doubts on a guy, that lone team could jump on a prospect's bandwagon and nab him early. Such is the case with Hundley, whose stock is all over the map. His own college coach, Jim Mora, has confirmed the near-unanimous line of thinking on Hundley: that he will need at least a year, and possibly several years, before he's ready to start in the NFL.  Hundley's athleticism is off the charts, plus he has the arm to make every throw. When he gets out of the pocket, the UCLA product can shred defenses; he also shows an understanding for when to get down or out of bounds to avoid a hit. He's tough in the pocket, too, consistently picking himself back up when he does take a shot. The negatives, of course, are quite obvious. Hundley is far too quick to take off, lowering his eyes as a runner rather than trying to keep plays alive behind the line of scrimmage. His touch can be ugly and his feel for the pass rush nonexistent.  If an NFL staff can figure out how to teach Hundley the intricacies of his position, though, there is a lot to be excited about—especially in a down year for quarterbacks.  Draft projection: Second round.) Nos. 54-50: Hundley could be a rewarding QB project (54. Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA:  Bio: A five-star recruit out of Chandler High in Arizona, Hundley redshirted in Rick Neuheisel's final season with the Bruins and started to show what he could do in 2012, Jim Mora's first season as head coach. Hundley completed 66.5% of his passes for 3,740 yards and 29 touchdowns, and he's never really let up from there. In his UCLA career, Hundley completed 837 of 1,239 passes (66.7%) for 75 touchdowns and 25 picks. Add in his 1,747 yards and 30 touchdowns on 479 rushing attempts, and you have a legitimate dual-threat quarterback with many traits that could eventually lead to NFL success. The mistake would be in assuming that Hundley can be a legit NFL starter right away.  Strengths: Well-built player at 6'3" and 226 pounds, with all the base attributes you'd want in a mobile quarterback. Has legitimate breakaway speed when on the run. Operates very well out of play-action, and is refining an understanding of the effect his mobility has on opposing defenses. Has the velocity to make any throw without too much effort. When in the pocket to throw, has no issue with delivering the ball and taking a hit. Real ability to succeed under center and in the pocket, though it hasn't been shown much—he took seven snaps under center total in 2014. Mentally tough and a hard worker. Will need serious development in some areas for NFL success, but is worth the time and effort.  Weaknesses: Played in a shotgun offense, and while that isn't a liability in the NFL anymore, Hundley's familiarity with a relatively simple play-calling system will be. Tends to lock on to his first receiver too often, will telegraph his reads, and will struggle further with turnovers in the NFL, when coverage windows are smaller. Drops from passing to running under pressure too often, and needs to default to keeping his eyes on his targets when on the run. Slightly hitchy delivery that leads to inconsistencies in ball placement. Needs to develop as a pure pocket passer. Takes too many sacks and needs to speed up his internal clock. Not an anticipation thrower—needs open pockets to consistently succeed. Runs into trouble when trying to read more complex coverages.  Conclusion: There's a difference between quarterbacks who can transition from "college offenses" to the pros in a hurry, and those who will need time to adapt. The common denominators among those quarterbacks who succeed are functional pocket awareness, an understanding of the system, and the ability to improvise as a passer instead of as a pure runner. Hundley has the potential to become one of those quarterbacks, but he's probably in for a rude awakening if he's thrown onto the field too soon with too much expected of him.  Pro Comparison: Colin Kaepernick, 49ers (Round 2, 2011).) Josh Keatley’s QB Rankings (3. Brett Hundley, UCLA, 6-3, 226 lbs.: Few passers in this class are as high-risk-high-reward as Hundley and there is a severe bust-factor to his game. As stated above there is a gigantic drop-off from Mariota to Hundley, but the former Bruin has enough raw talent to be effective in the NFL. Hundley has the tools to develop into a starter, but he is extremely raw and will take time to develop. Mariota is known as a more polished Kaepernick, but Hundley is the more raw version of Kaepernick.) (3-31-15):   http://www.detroitlionsdraft.com/2015/03/josh-keatleys-qb-rankings/

2015 NFL Draft: Lance Zierlein's top 10 quarterback prospects (3. Brett Hundley, UCLA - Zierlein's bottom line: Hundley flashes athleticism and talent, but his basic quarterbacking issues will take time to improve. In 2014, more than 54 percent of his pass attempts were from six yards and in, including 29 percent from behind the line of scrimmage, which is nothing like an NFL offense. Hundley is a "flash" prospect who shows the physical tools to be a starter, but his internal clock and issues with reads and progressions must be improved to give him a shot at becoming a decent NFL starter.) 2015 NFL Draft: Five Takeaways from this week's Pro Day workouts (4. Brett Hundley makes his case to be the No. 3 QB: A few years ago, a dubious Pete Carroll expressed doubt that his then-young quarterback Mark Sanchez was ready to make the NFL jump. That didn't stop Sanchez from becoming the No. 5 overall pick of the 2009 draft. After a stellar performance at his on-campus workout Tuesday, Hundley showed the combination of size, athleticism and arm talent to also climb up draft boards, though Jim Mora questioned whether his former pupil could be walk into the NFL and start immediately. With Hundley's experience coming from a spread scheme that took full advantage of his graceful running, perhaps he isn't yet ready to start in a traditional pro-style attack. Given Hundley's production (11,718 total yards and 105 touchdowns over three seasons), upside and high character grades, however, he's distancing himself from the other quarterbacks in this class in the race to follow Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota off the board.  "I'm really, really happy with what I did and satisfied with it. I felt like I put on a show today," Hundley said after completing 57 of 60 passes in the workout. "I feel like I can just relax a little but there's no break. 2015's Quarterback Conundrum (3-11-15):    http://www.rotoworld.com/articles/cfb/52722/349/2015s-quarterback-conundrum

UCLA football demonstrates talent to scouts, coaches on Pro Day (QB Brett Hundley:  UCLA’s signal caller for the past three seasons built off a strong showing at the NFL Scouting Combine in February with a solid showing Tuesday. Hundley went through a scripted throwing session and completed 57 of 60 passes with one drop. He moved well throughout the session and displayed the touch, accuracy and arm strength that earned him acclaim a month ago in Indianapolis and placed him firmly in the mix to be the third quarterback selected in the NFL draft, not that that’s the focus for Hundley.  “I think it’s always been about showing what I can do for these teams and who I am personally,” Hundley said. “Competing with (the other quarterback prospects), it’s never been a personal battle between us.”  Hundley said that he worked extensively on improving his footwork and fundamentals and it showed in his workout. While not every pass was perfect, he looked very clean and polished rolling out of the pocket and dropping back. Following the session, Hundley said that he has been contacted to some extent by every NFL team, but did not state when or where he expects to be selected. Regardless of what team chooses him, Mora said that Hundley, like all rookie quarterbacks, faces a hard transition to the next level.  “Like every young player in the league, he’s going to have to process information more quickly,” Mora said. “The jump from high school to college is difficult; the jump from college to the NFL is tenfold that.”) (3-10-15):   http://dailybruin.com/2015/03/10/ucla-football-demonstrates-talent-to-scouts-coaches-on-pro-day/

Stock rising? Hundley shines in UCLA pro-day workout (The star of the workout was, naturally, quarterback Brett Hundley, who went through an up-tempo throwing session that was aimed at showing off a variety of his skills to the scouts in attendance.  "I'm really, really happy with what I did and satisfied with it. I felt like I put on a show today," Hundley told CFB 24/7. "I feel like I can just relax a little but there's no break. I've got to keep going and keep getting better."  Hundley worked a variety of route concepts that he had not shown very much on tape and impressed with a tight spiral and good velocity. He appeared to be on the money with all but a handful of passes. The signal-caller looked to be on the same page as his wideouts and he was particularly proud of the footwork he showed off inside the pocket while avoiding a faux pass rush.  "Brett threw well. He threw 60 passes and ended up completing 57 of the 60 with one drop," Mora said. "Not every throw was perfect but I think what the scouts and coaches appreciated was his enthusiasm. When you sit down in interviews, you hear over and over what a great kid he is and what high character he (has).") Rising UCLA D-lineman could be late first-rounder (Quarterback Brett Hundley (6-foot-3 1/8, 227 pounds) did a scripted workout run by UCLA offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone. Hundley has a good arm and was very accurate. Hundley is athletic; he was a top performer among quarterbacks in each drill he participated in at the NFL Scouting Combine, including a record time in the 20-yard shuttle for a quarterback at the combine. His impressive workout at the pro day helped his draft status, and the quarterback has a good chance to be a second-round pick in the 2015 NFL Draft.) 2015 NFL Draft: QB Brett Hundley looks "smooth" at UCLA pro day (UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley had his closing argument on Tuesday, throwing the ball for a large contingent of NFL teams at the Bruins' pro day. And according to one scout in attendance, he was "on point and smooth" during his passing session, showing off footwork and plenty of arm strength to make every NFL throw.  With his physical skill-set, Hundley was expected to be at his best during a scripted throwing exercise, but the next level questions are tough to simulate at a pro day, most notably his questionable pocket presence and vision. NFL teams have been impressed with the way Hundley carries himself and although Mariota receives the "squeaky clean" label from most, front office execs consider Hundley on the same level in regards to his extraordinary character. The scout in attendance also pointed out that he thinks Hundley will need time to sit before he's ready for next level snaps. And his college head coach agrees that Hundley isn't quite ready.)

March madness: 10 burning pro day questions (Who is the third-best QB prospect: Brett Hundley or Bryce Petty? UCLA pro day: March 10, Baylor pro day: March 18, At this point, the fight for the No. 3 QB position on the draft board comes down to Hundley and Petty. Each prospect posted impressive numbers directing a spread offense in college, but scouts are undecided on which player has the potential to develop into a front-line starter in a traditional pro-style system. Thus, the pro day workouts will help determine which guy gets the nod as the most intriguing quarterback prospect behind Winston and Mariota. Hundley must display better accuracy and ball placement on intermediate and deep throws (particularly on vertical shots down the boundary). He also has to explain why he took so many sacks in college when there were plenty of opportunities to get rid of the ball to a hot receiver or check down prior to the rush collapsing the pocket. Petty must show improved accuracy and touch on his deep ball. He missed a number of home-run throws last season; scouts will want to see him connect on deep shots during his workout. Petty also must display a high football IQ in meetings, to squelch the doubts about his ability to play in a system outside of Art Briles' quarterback-friendly scheme. With a possible first-round selection on the line, Hundley and Petty must bring their A-games to their respective workouts.   "I think he's ready for the NFL, I don't know that he's ready to go in and start in the NFL,” UCLA head coach Jim Mora said on the NFL Network set. “I think if he can find the right situation where he can go in and learn and have a couple years to work on his craft - because he will work on it, his work ethic is off the charts, character is off the charts - if he can get himself in the right situation where he's not thrown right into the starting line-up, then I think he can be a very productive NFL player."  Hundley, who is currently rated as NFLDraftScout.com's No. 3 quarterback, could be drafted anywhere from the late first to the third round, but he doesn't think much about where he will be drafted.  "You can't be worried about where you're going to go, where you're going to get drafted or who is doing what,” Hundley said after his workout on Tuesday. “You have to worry about yourself and I think that's what it comes down to. I'm trying to be as good as I can for whatever team picks me.") (3-2-15):    http://www.nfl.com/draft/story/0ap3000000475769/article/marcus-mariota-shane-ray-hit-center-stage-in-pro-day-season

Davis: 5 draft prospects with work to do at pro day (Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA - Pro day: March 10, The skinny: Hundley tested very well at the combine -- his 3.98-second 20-yard shuttle was a combine record for a quarterback -- and he's competing to be the third quarterback off the board this year, after Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. That battle isn't over, but some evaluators weren't particularly impressed with how he threw at the combine and they need to see more from him. I don't think some scouts are giving him his due credit as a thrower. He already has said he doesn't intend to do drills again at his pro day. He's going to throw, though, and I can't wait to see how he fares. He has a chance to go out and put all those questions to rest, and I think he'll probably do just that.) QBs 2015 Combine Stock Report (Brett Hundley's big issue is his pocket awareness; he tends to not look downfield amid pressure, so he'll need to be coached up way more than the two quarterbacks ahead of him. However, this was not going to be an issue at the Combine, where Hundley could look good without the threat of a pass rush. Hundley did very well in the field drills and showed off his athleticism, so perhaps some team will choose him in the second round. UCLA QB Brett Hundley was "very impressive during the interview process with teams," wrote TFY Draft Insider's Tony Pauline ("Articulate, intelligent and comes across as a leader," Pauline wrote. Hundley is an extremely easy prospect to dream on. He's a respected leader, has a history with pressure having been UCLA's quarterback, is ridiculously athletic, and has a nice arm. We won't come around on him, however, because we haven't seen those traits coalesce on the field. When bullets are firing around him, Hundley uses his athleticism to become a running back, dropping his eyes and removing his arm from the equation. It won't matter how well spoken he is if Hundley can't effectively learn how to deal with pressure.) QBs 2015 Combine Field Drills Recap (UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley (6-3, 226) had a strong Combine. Hundley is a good athlete, so it wasn't surprising. He ran well with 4.63 time in the 40 and showed off his strong arm in the field drills. Hundley's issues are in working as a pocket passer and his field vision while working through his progressions. Thus, the Combine isn't designed for Hundley to address those concerns.) (2-21-15):   http://walterfootball.com/combine2015workoutQB.php

Kevin White clear cut no. 1 WR ('Pocket awareness' hurts Hundley.  UCLA's Brett Hundley seems to be the leading contender to be the third quarterback selected in the draft. Hundley was a dual-threat guy at UCLA and turned in a 4.63 clocking in the 40. "He's not an explosive runner, but he's a smart, tough runner," Mayock said. The real criticism of Hundley comes from his work as a passer. "His pocket awareness is lacking," Mayock said. "He won't anticipate; he won't throw a guy open." Mayock has Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota as his top two quarterbacks, with both going in the first round. But "from a pure grade perspective," Mayock has zero quarterbacks in the second round. But he said he can see a quarterback or two going in the second round because of team needs. Presumably, one of those would be Hundley.) Saturday at the Combine (Quick Hits - ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Browns would have considered drafting UCLA QB Brett Hundley in the top-ten last year. 2014 Combine: Winners and losers from Day 2's media session (Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA: The UCLA quarterback had great media training in college by being in the middle of Los Angeles, and you could tell from the way he effortlessly gave his answer, impressing those who had little idea who he was. 2015 NFL Combine Weigh-In Analysis: QBs (UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley had bigger hands (10 1/2 inches) than Winston or Mariota, but Hundley was shorter. Hundley (6-3, 226) should impress at the Combine, as he is a speedy athlete. He also has the arm to look good throwing on the field. Hundley needs a strong Combine, Pro Day, and team interview performance to have any hope of getting some team to take him in the first round. A good Combine could help Hundley to go on Day 2.) On-field Combine results that could impact top draft prospects (We know Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota are the consensus top two quarterbacks in this draft, but who's No. 3? Hundley is the pick for some people, but he can cement his status by showing off his arm and athleticism at the combine. The dynamic in throwing drills will be a little different this year, with the top quarterbacks announcing they intend to throw in Indianapolis. Quarterbacks can open eyes with how they perform in throwing drills at the combine. Hundley passed on a chance to compete in the Senior Bowl -- and I'm not knocking him for that decision -- so this will be his first chance to make an impression on teams this draft season and show that it should be him, not Bryce Petty, Garrett Grayson or anyone else, that should be the third QB off the board. Hundley certainly looks the part, and teams will want to see just how live his arm can be.) Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota will reportedly both participate in passing drills at the combine, but if they somehow wind up sitting, Hundley would have an even better chance to separate himself as this draft's No. 3 quarterback prospect.  I'm not as down on Hundley as some others are. We have seen Hundley display a strong arm and good athleticism throughout his collegiate career, and we know that he has a nice frame at 6-3 and 226 pounds. But can he be a consistent, accurate passer at the next level? And can he improve his pocket presence? Inside scoop on prospects at the Senior Bowl (The scoop: "Brett Hundley scares me." -- AFC player personnel director. The skinny: The UCLA quarterback, who turned down an invitation to participate in the Senior Bowl this week, is an impressive athlete and playmaker, but the personnel director is uncertain about whether Hundley can be a franchise quarterback at the next level. He questioned Hundley's overall pocket poise and awareness, while also expressing concerns about his deep-ball accuracy and touch. Factor in the worry about his transition to a pro-style offense after playing in UCLA's version of the spread, and it appears Hundley is anything but a lock to be the third quarterback taken in the draft.) Hundley flashes first round form in Alamo Bowl (Hundley didn't post the gaudy statistics that will generate excitement in the media. He guided the Bruins to a commanding 31-6 halftime lead and the Bruins elected to run the ball most of the second half, limiting his opportunities. The manner in which Hundley earned his numbers, however, will catch the attention from scouts.  Hundley completed just 12 of 24 passes for 136 yards, including a seven-yard touchdown. He also ran for another 96 yards and two more scores. His passing numbers would have been even better had his receivers not dropped several passes against the Wilcats, including a perfectly thrown deep ball that Thomas Duarte let slip through his hands with 11:21 remaining in the second quarter.) 2015 NFL Draft: Prospects to watch this bowl season (QB Brett Hundley, UCLA - Valero Alamo Bowl (Jan. 2, 6:45 p.m.) vs. Kansas State: What to watch: As Bruins head coach Jim Mora pointed out last week, this match-up will be the final collegiate game for Hundley, who is headed to the NFL early. The UCLA passer has the prototypical physical skill-set for the NFL with his size, athleticism and arm talent, but his inconsistencies reading defenses and handling pressure are two innate deficiencies that make some believe he's a future bust. Facing the Wildcats' defense will be the final true test in a game setting for Hundley to show scouts improvements in those trouble areas.) Ten underclassman who should forgo the 2015 draft (Around midseason, I thought coming back to UCLA for another season could be the best thing in the world for Hundley. Now, he improved his play, starting with the Oregon game, but I still feel he'd benefit from returning for another season with the Bruins. There are still concerns about his pocket presence and he could really boost his stock with another year of seasoning. There's plenty left for him to accomplish in college. No doubt, though, he's a great talent.) (12-15-14):   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000444906/article/ten-underclassmen-who-should-forgo-2015-nfl-draft

Hundley leads prospects with most on line in bowl season (Brett Hundley, QB, UCLA - Bowl game: Alamo (vs. Kansas State, Jan. 2): Analysis: The redshirt junior has indicated this is his last season in Westwood, and he might be among the most divisive players scouts will look at over the coming months -- some scouts see star potential, others see a potential bust. His last performance was a clunker against a good Stanford defense, costing his team a trip to the Pac-12 title game, so pressure is on to prove he's making the right decision to come out with a good game against a solid Kansas State team.) College game of the week: Trojan at Bruins (Brett Hundley, QB: -2.4:  Breakdown: It’s never a good thing when you throw a pick-six with your first pass of the game, and though his stats ended up looking pretty healthy by the end of the game, in all honesty, Hundley didn’t have to do a whole lot to get some of the biggest gains, owing far more to his receivers or AWOL coverage from USC.  Signature Play: Q3, 14:42. This throw was lucky to only be broken up, as Hundley turned and threw a bubble screen straight to a linebacker who could easily have taken it back for a score.) Two college players to watch on Saturday (UCLA QB Brett Hundley (vs. USC, 8 p.m. ET, ABC): The junior's case is an interesting one, in that the NFL types scouting Hundley don't see him quite the same way those in the public have. "I feel bad for him, because everyone hyped him up so much in the preseason, it was like he had to play at a (Marcus) Mariota-type level or he'd be a failure," one AFC area scout said. Statistically, Hundley has, indeed, gotten better. But it still doesn't seem like it'll be enough to push him into the first or second round, mostly because the problems that existed before remain. "He has very good size and athletic ability, but he struggles reading things and throwing with accuracy," another AFC scouting director said. So this becomes a big week for Hundley -- compared by the area scout to former Jaguar David Garrard -- for a couple reasons. First, he'll face a pro-style defense in playing USC. Second, there's another pro-style offense on the other side, and so -- from an optics standpoint -- just looking better than Cody Kessler could leave a positive impression.) NFL scouts share notes on USC and UCLA draft prospects (BRETT HUNDLEY, UCLA quarterback — In less than three seasons with Hundley at quarterback, the Bruins have won 27 games. They had a combined 27 wins in the previous five seasons. Scouts love Hundley's size, athleticism and elusiveness, but they also think he'd benefit from staying in school another year, though no one expects that to happen.   Scout 1: He's got a really nice skill set. He's a big kid and athletic with a good arm, not a great arm. We need to see better accuracy from him, especially throwing from the pocket. He tends to hold on to the ball too long, and he's not as quick going through his progression as he should be at this stage of his career. … I think he relies on his feet at times to bail him out. It's possible that somebody takes a flier on him in the first round. He's still considered a developmental player. If you take him and put him in too early, he could struggle. But then you put him in an offense like Chip Kelly's [in Philadelphia] and maybe it works.   Scout 2: The thing about Brett that kills you are the negative plays, the sacks. You just don't know what he's seeing sometimes. He's big, he's fast, he's tough, he's a good competitor and he wants to be a good player. If he gets drafted and goes and sits behind somebody, I don't know that that helps him more than playing another year in college.  Scout 3: He's got everything you want physically. You just question his process and vision at times. He doesn't have elite accuracy. With that said, he's a dual-threat guy and that's hard to find. I think he'll stack up well against some of the other quarterbacks in this draft. He's a late-first or second-round kind of guy.) Week 13 Prospect Preview (Entering the season, Hundley was often mentioned among the top quarterback prospects in the country, but an inconsistent junior year hasn't done much to answer the questions scouts had on the player going into this season. From a size, athleticism and arm strength perspective, he has top-10 ability, but obviously so much more goes into evaluating the quarterback position. And Hundley's lack of pocket presence and struggles with pressure are still a major concern. He has done a better job tucking and picking up yards with his legs when the pocket breaks down, but in order for him to be successful in the NFL, scouts still want to see him operate better from the pocket, especially under duress.)(11-20-14):   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/24822379/nfl-draft-prospect-preview-who-to-watch-in-week-13

What we're hearing about top prospects (The scoop: "Since the Oregon game (on Oct. 11), his stock, in my book, has risen again. He's not staring down the pass rush as much, and he's not just a willing runner; he's running to hurt a defense now. He's put his team on his back, and is producing at a high level." -- AFC North general manager on UCLA QB Brett Hundley. The skinny: Hundley is in the midst of the best streak of his UCLA career. He leads the nation in passing percentage (72.1) and is in the top 10 with a QB rating of 158.0. He's done a tremendous job protecting the ball with 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions. And before the win at Washington last week, in which he completed more than 80 percent of his passes for 302 yards and a pair of touchdowns, he went through a four-game stretch averaging 106 yards on the ground. He's starting to look like the player many had envisioned, one year after making the decision to forgo the NFL. No doubt, he has benefited from going back to school. The question now is whether he will be back for Year No. 4.

Hundley wasn't popular with his teammates entering the season (UCLA quarterback Brett Hundley has left many wondering what could have been this season. Entering Saturday’s game against rival USC, the Bruins are ninth in the latest College Football Playoff rankings, the second-highest team with two losses, and riding a four-game winning streak. The 6-foot-3, 226-pound redshirt junior is back to his dual-threat play that spawned his stardom after admittedly not running the ball like his usual self during the first two months of this season.  Hundley attributed it early this month to the “pressure” of trying to show he is an improved passer to NFL scouts, who have concerns about his accuracy and pocket presence. He said he had an epiphany after beating Colorado in double overtime last month, a couple of weeks after the consecutive home losses to Utah and Oregon by a combined 14 points.  The UCLA offensive line was criticized earlier this season for not protecting Hundley, who it turned out was holding the ball too long trying to prove his mettle to the NFL. It caused some of those linemen and others on the offense to lose self-confidence. Hundley’s nonchalant admission about his change of play sparked anger and bemusement about whether he still thinks he is more important than the team. It’s been a bizarre twist for Hundley, who isn’t viewed as an arrogant Johnny Manziel type.  He could have left for the NFL Draft after last season, but wisely stayed. In July, Bruins coach Jim Mora declared Hundley a first-round NFL pick. Now four months later there are questions not just about his suspect passing, but also his leadership and football acumen.  Hundley already wasn’t popular with his teammates entering this season, according to an NFL scout. That may be an even bigger problem for Hundley after this turbulent season. Many scouts believe he should remain at UCLA next year to try to salvage his damaged NFL stock.) Week 7 Prospect Preview (While Mariota is the favorite to be the top quarterback drafted next spring, Hundley is also in the mix to be an early first round pick due to his high character and physical talent, displaying the size, athleticism and arm talent that translates extremely well. If you put on the Arizona State tape from two weeks ago, Hundley looked like a star against the Sun Devils, destined to be a top-five pick. But most other games tapes, including last week in the Bruins loss to Utah, tell a different story. The big issue with Hundley, who had two interceptions and only 64 yards passing vs. Oregon last year, is his lack of feel in the pocket, struggling to read and anticipate pressures, allowing himself to be easily rattled.) Week 6 stock report (After his impressive performance in the win of Arizona State last week, NFL scouts were eager to see how UCLA RS junior QB Brett Hundley would follow it up, hoping that the talented passer would show continued improvement. But that wasn't the case as Hundley struggled against Utah's pressure and looked uncomfortable in the pocket most of the night as the Bruins fell to the Utes. He finished 16 of 21 for 269 yards, two touchdowns and one interception, showing the arm to deliver strikes all over the field. But he was also sacked 10 times, including several stops where he showed little feel in the pocket, not allowing routes to develop and abandoning reads in order to find pressure. It doesn't matter how talented the offensive line is, defensive pressure is something every quarterback deals with in the NFL. And to this point, Hundley's lack of pocket presence and awareness are substantial concerns that could take him off some teams' draft boards.) What we're hearing about top prospects (The scoop: "(UCLA quarterback) Brett Hundley has flaws but he has a huge upside. Great athlete and a big arm. That performance against ASU was one of his best games." -- former NFL team GM.  The skinny: Against Arizona State last Thursday night, Hundley was near flawless, completing 18 of 23 passes for 355 yards and four touchdowns. He also rushed eight times for 72 yards and a TD. There were scouts in attendance from at least 15 NFL teams. "That's a great game to come to," Hundley told an SI.com reporter after the game.) Week 5 Stock Report (Last Thursday against Arizona State, Hundley had his best outing as a collegiate player, leading the Bruins to a 62-27 victory. It was an encouraging performance because he showed improvement in several areas that scouts have been critical. Hundley has the size, athleticism and arm, but routinely struggled with defensive pressure in the past, which resulted in inconsistent ball placement or negative yardage. However against the Sun Devils, he kept his eye level elevated and used his nimble feet to maneuver around the noise with his vision focused downfield, not at defenders closing in on him. Hundley finished 18-for-23 (78.3 percent) for 355 passing yards and five total scores (four passing, one rushing), recording 72 yards rushing with his legs. He was already thought of as a possible top-10 pick due to his natural tools, but if Hundley continues to play at this level, he will have a legitimate chance to contend for the top pick overall.) Hundley made leap in week 1 (Like Winston, UCLA's Brett Hundley is a top quarterback who didn't quite match his offseason hype in the season opener.  However, just as Winston did, Hundley made plays when he needed to and led UCLA to a win at Virginia on Saturday. I think what he experienced in that game will help him grow.  Hundley had to deal with coordinator Jon Tenuta's defense, which pressured him consistently with a variety of blitzes. UCLA was missing its starting center -- Jake Brendel -- and that was a big deal for the Bruins. The offensive line struggled to protect Hundley, and the quarterback's eyes started focusing on the players pressuring him instead of his targets downfield. He struggled with it in the first half, but while the pressure never abated in the second half, Hundley did a much better job of handling it. He stopped focusing on just the rush. His six-yard TD run in the third quarter was a thing of beauty, as was his 3rd-and-9 completion to Jordan Payton for a first down on the game's final possession.  He competed all game long even though he didn't have his best stuff and made a leap as a quarterback in the second half. I suspect he'll settle in and play better as UCLA goes along.) (9-2-14):   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000388388/article/jameis-winston-needs-to-get-back-to-playing-loose

Week 1 Risers and Sliders (I may be in the minority but I remain unimpressed by quarterback Brett Hundley. His performance against Virginia, who fields a solid defense, was adequate at best. Hundley did not make any glaring mistakes but he holds the ball too long in the pocket, is very slow to pull the trigger and makes wide open receivers work too hard. On a number of crossing routes his passes were high of the mark or behind wide open targets, which led to a loss of opportunity running after the catch. You cannot debate Hundley’s physical skills but the inability to make quick decisions in the pocket or correctly place passes is disconcerting.) (9-1-14):   http://www.draftinsider.net/blog/?p=9996

What each college QB needs to prove in 2014 (At 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds, Hundley is built like the prototypical quarterback. He looks like the big, strong, strapping quarterback that will stand in the pocket and shake defenders off of him while making all the throws. He has good mobility, too. Now, last season, I thought he pressed a little at times and tried to do too much. This Bruins team has huge aspirations this season. They expect to contend for the Pac-12 title and a spot in the inaugural College Football Playoff. If they're going to reach that goal, Hundley has to show he can play more relaxed and be more consistent. He also has to prove he can win against the Pac-12's best. Hundley is 2-0 against rival USC, but his all-time record against Arizona State, Oregon and Stanford is 1-5, with his lone win coming in an October 2012 game against the Sun Devils.) 2015 NFL Draft: UCLA Preview (It has been a long time since a Bruins' quarterback has excited NFL scouts. The last UCLA quarterback drafted, in fact, was Cade McNown, whom the Chicago Bears selected in the first round 15 years ago. While the wait has been long, Hundley is rewarding the UCLA faithful. With the athletic frame, arm and mobility to earn comparisons to a young Randall Cunningham, Hundley looks every bit the part of a future first round pick.  Hundley was convinced to leave the state of Arizona (where he played his prep ball) by Neuheisel but never played for the coach, redshirting his first year at UCLA. Under Mora and offensive coordinator Noel Mazzone, Hundley has developed into a dual-threat star, either running or passing for a touchdown in all 27 games of his career. He's completed 66.8% of his passes for 6,816 yards and 53 touchdowns against just 20 interceptions. He's also run for 1,103 yards and 20 scores in just two seasons.  Hundley looks the part with a tall, well-built frame and a quick set-up and delivery of the football. He has a terrific arm that can easily make any NFL throw. He is a dynamic athlete with vision and poise with the elusiveness and speed to turn short scrambles into long gains, like the 72-yard jaunt for a touchdown on his first snap in a UCLA uniform (Rice, 2012).  While Hundley's talent is obvious, he made the correct decision in returning to the Bruins for another season of development. Hundley takes virtually every snap from shotgun and typically relies upon pre-snap reads in a relatively simple offense. When his intended target is covered up, Hundley doesn't always maximize other options downfield before tucking the ball and running it himself. Further, Hundley doesn't consistently hit his receivers in stride, limiting yardage-after-the-catch opportunities. On the surface, Hundley's skill-set seems every bit as tantalizing as Oregon's Marcus Mariota or Florida State's Jameis Winston. To leapfrog these two as the elite quarterback prospect in the country, however, Hundley will need to improve in the critical subtleties of the quarterback position - reading defenses and ball placement.) Articles:

Greg Cosell's draft preview: Are there any starting QBs outside the top two? (Bryce Petty, Baylor: Overall, the more I watched Petty the less I liked him as an NFL starter. His almost alarming lack of accuracy was very troubling. Much of it was likely resulting from his poor footwork and balance – can that be fixed? That's a big "maybe." There are a lot of questions that are hard to answer as he transitions from Baylor's spread offense to the NFL. He has almost no understanding of protections, because that was not part of his responsibility in the Baylor offense. He has not been taught the pass game based on three-step/five-step/seven-step drop concepts. He will be starting from scratch with that in the NFL There should be a big question of how he functions in the pocket with bodies around him; that’s a definite concern as he transitions to the NFL. He is not a progression reader and will need to be taught that in the NFL. That's a process that takes time. Petty must learn how to move his feet with his eyes when he comes off primary read, he did not stride to the throw and was not always closed to the target – the result will be too many balls thrown with poor balance. There is a defined quarterback skill set to work with, but Petty needs to be coached and given time to assimilate new concepts and techniques. He has a compact delivery with the ability to trigger quickly, there's good ball position and balance in the pocket, and he has light feet and deceptive mobility and movement. But Petty was very much a one-read quarterback based on Baylor offense. There will be a significant mental learning curve to play in an NFL offense. The game he played at Baylor and the skills required to play it don’t tell us much about how he’ll transition to the NFL.) 2015 NFL Draft: 5 Bold Predictions - Dante Fowler follows QBs off board (5. Bryce Petty will sneak into the late part of Round One. This might be the biggest surprise of the first round if it happens. It would be tough to find many who think Petty is worth a first rounder, but quarterbacks are always overvalued because of simple supply and demand and Petty has workable traits that coaches covet, both physically and mentally. He is likely in the early second round mix to a team like the New Orleans Saints, St. Louis Rams or Buffalo Bills, so it shouldn't be a shock if one of those teams packages a third or fourth rounder to move up a few spots into the late first round to guarantee Petty, similar to what Minnesota did last year with Teddy Bridgewater. Drafting in the first round also guarantees a fifth-year club option at a very reasonable price, which is gold for a quarterback who will need time to adapt to the NFL game like Petty.) Which prospects are undervalued/overvalued? (Overvalued - 2. Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor: I believe this is a two-quarterback draft class. However, there are more than two teams with a need at the position. That means someone is going to get elevated above where they should be selected, and I think that someone is Petty. There are things to like about his game: great size, strong arm and excellent character. However, he's in for a major adjustment coming out of the Baylor system, and his accuracy tanks when his first read is unavailable. Petty is a project, but could hear his name called as early as the top of Round 2.) Players being overrated in the lead-up to the draft (Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor: There is a precipitous drop-off at the quarterback spot this year behind Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota. The problem is that outside of Tampa Bay and Tennessee (or whichever two teams land Winston and Mariota), another handful of teams are still in the market for a franchise quarterback. So what's a team to do? Well, in all likelihood, said team will reach. Taken on his own, without the context of the remaining quarterback class, Petty probably deserves to be a mid-round (i.e. Rounds 3 or 4) prospect. Same goes for Brett Hundley and Garrett Grayson, with several other quarterbacks sitting in line behind them. The lack of options at the game's most important position figures to push at least one or two of those QBs—starting with Petty, if recent reports are to be believed—up into an early Round 2 spot.) Zierlein: 10 things to believe amid so much draft misinformation (8. Bryce Petty is getting drafted earlier than we all think: We hear plenty of talk about how lacking this quarterback class is, and NFL teams have been saying the same thing behind the scenes. However, as the draft inches closer, I'm starting to hear more and more whispers about teams talking themselves into considering Petty earlier than their initial grades might have merited. Petty has size, decent athleticism and a good arm and let's face it -- teams just can't quit quarterbacks.) Injury Analysis for 2015 Draft (Bryce Petty, Baylor: Injury History - Petty suffered the same injury as Tony Romo and Cam Newton suffered last year when he fractured the transverse process in his back. It only kept him from one game and is something that players are usually able to play through. He also suffered a concussion last year. Going back to high school (2008) he tore his MCL which did require surgery to repair.  Analysis - There is nothing here that screams red flag. The back issue should be fine for this year. Concussions become a problem the more often they occur but the one he had last year was the first that was documented of his career.) O'HARA'S DRAFT PREVIEW: Quarterbacks (Bryce Petty, Baylor: Baylor’s vertical passing game suited Petty’s talent. Like a lot of prospects this year – any year, really – the question is how well and how fast he transitions to the pro game. It took Petty four years after leaving high school – with a year at community college -- to become a starting QB. As a two-year starter he threw 61 TD passes. He ended his college career by throwing for 550 yards and three TDs in Baylor’s 42-41 Cotton Bowl loss to Michigan State.) 2015 NFL Draft: Divided views on next level of quarterback prospects (Opinion seems split on Baylor's Bryce Petty -- some wonder if he ends up being a tight end; others believe he has legit starting QB potential -- but he is a tremendous kid and a great athlete and throws a great deep ball. I suspect that results in him going pretty high.) (4-17-15):   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/25152445/nfl-draft-divided-views-on-next-level-of-quarterback-prospects

Beyond Jameis and Marcus: Ranking draft's top 10 QBs (5. Bryce Petty, Baylor: As perhaps the favorite right now to be the first quarterback selected after Winston and Mariota, Petty's size (6'3", 230 pounds) works to his advantage. He also throws as nice a deep ball as any quarterback in the 2015 class, having time and again burned Baylor's opponents by dropping a pass in the bucket downfield. Petty is in his infancy when it comes to calling plays and fully running an offense—the Baylor attack was tailored to place as little pressure on his shoulders as possible. But the combination of what Petty did in college and the physical attributes he possesses makes for an intriguing prospect. Draft projection: Fourth round.) Jeremiah: Petty entrenched as No. 3 QB in 2015 NFL Draft (4-8-15):   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000484406/article/jeremiah-bryce-petty-entrenched-as-no-3-qb-in-draft

NFP Prospect Focus: Bryce Petty and Shane Carden (Petty has been a very productive two-year starter at Baylor. In the last two seasons, he has thrown for over 8,000 yards and 60 touchdowns while throwing only 17 interceptions. At 6’3 – 230, Petty has good size. His Combine results show what kind of athlete he is. While he ran in the high 4.8’s, which is average for a QB, his change of direction drills and jumps were outstanding. He has quick feet and the ability to extend and make plays with his feet. He played in a fast paced spread offense and almost never took snaps from under center. The Baylor offense is mostly a quick read, half-field offense and Petty did an excellent job running it. He has fairly good mechanics, a strong arm and a quick release. He can spin the ball well and throws a very catchable pass. He showed very good accuracy and ball placement on the shorter throws, but like many spread QB’s, his accuracy and ball placement fell off on deeper throws. In the Baylor offense, the QB seldom gets past the second read. When Petty gets to the NFL, he will need to go a three and four receiver progression. This will take time for him to adjust to. Right now, he is a system quarterback, which made him look better than he is. We have seen the problems RGIII has had coming from that offense, and Petty will have some of the same problems. I like Petty’s intangibles. Because of them, I feel he has a strong chance to develop into a quality NFL quarterback. The game is important to him and he wants to be a great player. He is not ready to step in and play and he will need time, patience, and coaching to make the proper adjustments to the NFL game. If he is not forced into action and is given the time to develop, by his third year, he should become a good starter.) Josh Keatley’s QB Rankings (5. Bryce Petty, Baylor, 6-3, 230 lbs.: Another gunslinger with extremely gaudy numbers that has potential bust written all over. Petty has the tools to succeed at the next level including great size to take an NFL pounding, but like Hundley, Petty is extremely raw. Baylor’s recent track record of passers making the transition to the NFL is lackluster, because of the video-game offense Petty is used to he will also need to adjust to the tight windows that will be the norm at the next level. When Petty finds his rhythm few passers are as dangerous and his scrambling ability is severely underrated.) (3-31-15):   http://www.detroitlionsdraft.com/2015/03/josh-keatleys-qb-rankings/

2015 NFL draft: this week in pro days (Baylor’s Bryce Petty is in contention to be the third QB selected in the draft, and showed off in front of 26 teams. Petty completed 69 of 77 passes with 5 drops, while taking every snap from under center to show teams he could make that small but significant transition. With the NFL’s need for quarterbacks, Petty is going to come off the board in the second round.) (3-20-15):   http://optimumscouting.com/draft/2015-nfl-draft-this-week-in-pro-days-2.html

2015 NFL Draft: Lance Zierlein's top 10 quarterback prospects (4. Bryce Petty, Baylor - Zierlein's bottom line: NFL evaluators felt like Petty's senior season was disappointing, but those same evaluators love his size, leadership and intangibles. He needs a year or two of practice time and camp work to learn how to get through his progressions, but has the intelligence to do that. Petty must have a structured offense that won't ask him to make plays outside of the pocket.) Gruden touts Petty's arm strength, calls him 'a great passer' (If sheer arm strength will play a big role in determining which quarterback will be the third guy taken at the position, Baylor's Bryce Petty is in good shape.  Former NFL coach/current ESPN NFL analyst Jon Gruden says Petty "might have the best arm talent in this draft."  "Last year Derek Carr came to town and put on an aerial display," Gruden said in a news release touting his "Gruden's Quarterback Camp" show on ESPN. "I would be surprised if Petty isn't that guy this year."  Petty, who measured 6-foot-2 7/8 and 230 pounds at the NFL Scouting Combine, threw for 8,055 yards and 61 TDs (against 10 interceptions) in his two seasons as Baylor's starter. Gruden calls him "a great passer."  Petty ran a spread offense at Baylor and there are questions about him transitioning to a pro-style attack, but Gruden doesn't seem to share those concerns. He says Petty has been "stereotyped in the Baylor offense, but he's different."  NFL Media analysts Bucky Brooks and Lance Zierlein have Petty as the No. 4 quarterback available, while fellow analyst Mike Mayock has Petty as his third quarterback.) March madness: 10 burning pro day questions (Who is the third-best QB prospect: Brett Hundley or Bryce Petty? With a possible first-round selection on the line, Hundley and Petty must bring their A-games to their respective workouts.) Sources Tell Us: Scoop on top prospects (The scoop: "After watching the tape, talking to both guys and seeing them work out, I have Petty ahead as my third quarterback." -- AFC quarterbacks coach on Bryce Petty vs. Brett Hundley.  The skinny: Petty showed good velocity on his throws during his NFL Scouting Combine workout and was said to have improved his stock by many scouts and coaches in attendance. Both Petty and Hundley checked in with decent size -- while Hundley was the better overall athlete -- and both had above-average hand size. Team sources raved about Hundley's interviews and it is hard to determine just where both quarterbacks are stacking up on team boards at this point.) QBs 2015 Combine Field Drills Recap (Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty had a good day throwing the ball. He showed some nice feet and mechanics with a quality arm. Petty (6-3, 230) ran the 40 in 4.87 seconds, but he obviously has a running element to his game coming from the Bears offense.) (2-21-15):   http://walterfootball.com/combine2015workoutQB.php

Kevin White clear cut no. 1 WR (Petty's skill set lauded.  A quarterback looking to solidify his spot at the top of the second tier is Baylor's Bryce Petty, and Mayock and former NFL QB Kurt Warner had some good things to say. Warner, who served as an on-field analyst for NFL Network, praised Petty's quick release and said he has "really good feet." Mayock touted Petty's "legit arm strength." The issue with Petty, as it is with all spread quarterbacks, is how quickly he can become accustomed to throwing from the pocket. That quarterbacks frequently are overvalued in the draft could lead to Petty -- who has nice size at 6-2 7/8 and 230 -- going earlier than expected.) Prospects that impressed Mayock (Baylor's Bryce Petty was another quarterback who Mayock wanted to see more of and thought he had a solid day throwing at Lucas Oil Stadium. While the ball jumping off Petty's hand might have been a solid effort in the eyes of the analyst, he also noted that Petty would be more than a one-year project for an NFL club looking to turn him into a starter in the league. Most of that stemmed from the unknowns the Bears signal-caller will face in the pocket.) 2015 Combine: Day 4 (Baylor’s Bryce Petty throws a really nice football but his footwork needs a lot of work. 2015 NFL Combine: 5 takeaways from QB interviews (The transition of Bryce Petty: Petty, NFLDraftScout.com's top-rated senior quarterback, will also be making a significant transition after starring in Art Briles' spread attack at Baylor. Some of the most elementary parts of quarterback play will be new to him as he literally didn't get play-calls with the Bears, taking them for the first time with Ken Whisenhunt and the Tennessee Titans at the Senior Bowl.  "Before (the Senior Bowl), I had no idea what to expect as far as even what a play call was," Petty said.  During the interview, Petty's passion for football and enjoyment in the spotlight was as clear as his mega-watt smile. He spoke confidently about the gains he made dropping back from center and reading defenses during the Senior Bowl.  "Yeah, that's what I loved about the Senior Bowl week," Petty said. "As much as anything, it's just the progress I made from day 1 to day 3. I felt a lot more comfortable within it, going through reads, going through progressions, knowing what they want." "That's the thing about just diving in it," Petty explained. "You've just got to get into it, and so for me repetitions are kind of a big deal. Once I see it, whether I did it right or wrong, I normally learn from it pretty quick doing it. Again, from day 1 to day 3 was a lot better in that aspect... I felt very comfortable getting in and out of play actions that are just five-step drops, seven-step drops, things like that."  "Definitely room to improve, but I like where I'm headed.") 2015 Combine: Winners and losers from Day 2 Media Session (Petty is picked as a winner. The Baylor signal-caller was one of the best to deal with in the college game, and that came across for NFL types Thursday. Walterfootball QB Weigh-In Analysis (Petty (6-3, 230) was at the Senior Bowl, and he has quality size to be an NFL quarterback. Petty showed athleticism at Baylor, so he should do well in the field drills at the Combine.) (2-19-15):    http://walterfootball.com/combine2015weighinQB.php

3 to watch at Combine (The back-up quarterback option: Bryce Petty, QB, Baylor
The Lions don't currently have a backup quarterback under contract. Sure, Detroit could bring back a known commodity in Dan Orlovsky or Kellen Moore, or the offensive coaching staff filled with quarterback gurus could draft a toolsy project to develop behind Matthew Stafford. Playing in Baylor's spread attack, Petty completed 62.6 percent of his passes the past two seasons with an impressive 61 touchdowns to just 10 interceptions. At 6-foot-3, 230 pounds, he has the size NFL teams like, but there are mental and mechanical issues that need plenty of work.) NFL Scouting Combine (Petty is one of the players who can help himself the most in Indy. The NFL is desperate for quarterbacks, and this guy started two years for a pretty good Baylor team -- and yet, he's not even mentioned as a possibility in the first three rounds. Given that the Bears used the shotgun and a very small playbook, Petty will have to show he can take snaps under center and be accurate on three-, five- and seven-step drops. I think we'll see he's improved since the Senior Bowl and throw well.) (2-18-15):   http://www.nfl.com/photoessays/0ap3000000471169

2015 Combine Preview: QBs (Best trait: Production – He threw for 4,200 yards and 32 touchdowns (three interceptions) in 2013 and followed that up with 3,855 yards and 29 touchdowns (seven picks) as a senior this past season.   Concern: System player – Petty played in Baylor’s pass-happy shotgun spread scheme and got his reads from the sideline. NFL people always have concerns about those kinds of quarterbacks entering the league.   The skinny: All indications are that he’s a smart kid who’ll probably need a year or two to learn pro-style, progression-based schemes. He will be a nice mid-round pick for a team looking to mold a quarterback for the future.) 2015 NFL Scouting Combine players to watch: Offense (Bryce Petty, Baylor: He went into the season generally considered the top senior quarterback, and he might exit the combine in that position, too. But that designation and $1 will get you a soda. He will be out to show he is the best athlete among the quarterbacks. He has been clocked as fast as 4.62 seconds in the 40, has had a vertical jump of 38 inches and has broad jumped 10-foot, 5 1/2 inches. He also can squat 510 pounds. If he performs to those standards at the combine, he will impress the scouts. But he has some on-field issues -- perhaps most notably, his ability to read defenses -- and those aren't going to miraculously disappear, even if he shines athletically at the combine.) Peters among combine prospects to watch (Bryce Petty - quarterback, Baylor - In a quarterback-light year, only two signal callers have been given first-round grades by most scouts -- Florida State's Jameis Winston and Oregon's Marcus Mariota. Intriguing Baylor project Bryce Petty could battle UCLA's Brett Hundley for the right to be the next QB off the board.   At 6-3, 230, Petty has the measurables that NFL teams look for, but he's been pigeonholed as a spread offense quarterback, who will need plenty of time to learn the intricacies of a traditional NFL system. The positives to Petty are his size and mobility, along with strong natural leadership skills.  "I just want to prove that I can play in an NFL system," Petty said. "That it's not about this college system. I can do drops, I can read defenses, go through progressions, pick up NFL offenses, the verbiage, what I'm supposed to look at, all that kind of stuff." ) (2-13-15):    http://www.sportsnetwork.com/merge/tsnform.aspx?c=sportsnetwork&page=nfl/writers/extrapoints/archive/extrapoints_021315.htm

FSU's Winston among 10 prospects with most to prove at combine (Petty could really help himself if he does a good job of showing teams that he can process information up on the board beyond just the one-read offense he was in at Baylor. He might run better than expected and throw better than expected. Senior Bowl winners and losers: Miam's Walford up, Baylor's Petty down (The former Bears star predictably struggled at times in making the adjustment to a pro-style system after spending his college career in a no-huddle, shotgun attack. He has the necessary size and his release was arguably the quickest of any quarterback at the Senior Bowl. 2015 Senior Bowl notebook (Baylor's Bryce Petty lost out on an opportunity to show that he could adjust to a pro-style system and be the clear-cut No. 3 signal-caller in the draft. Accuracy remains an issue for the former Bear.)(1-25-14): http://www.nationalfootballpost.com/2015-Senior-Bowl-notebook.html

Senior Bowl Quarterbacks (Bryce Petty called himself the best quarterback in the draft. More like the best quarterback on the third day of the draft. Petty had his struggles in the Senior Bowl and did nothing to improve his draft stock. Aside from an interception, Petty had the best stats of any quarterback in the Senior Bowl, going 9-of-13 for 123 yards. Petty, however, was nearly picked on the first drive, but that wasn't his fault, as there was a miscommunication with the tight end. He then overthrew Justin Hardy by three yards out of bounds for a potential touchdown. Late in the game, Petty had a nice completion, but missed an open tight end early in the play and had to escape the pocket. There's a chance Petty will be chosen in the third round, but he'll likely be taken in the fourth frame. The transition from Baylor's offense could prove to be too much, and unlike Marcus Mariota, Petty doesn't have the physical talent to compensate for it.) (1-24-14): http://walterfootball.com/seniorbowl2015quarterbacks.php

What we learned from Senior Bowl (Petty still focused on nailing fundamentals. Quarterback play during the week of the Senior Bowl was not the sharpest and that rang true on Saturday evening when the lights came on for the game. Nobody really stood out as head and shoulders above their peers. Baylor's Bryce Petty did lead the victorious North squad in passing yardage but confirmed he still missed a few timing passes that hampered the offense early on. "We had a couple of plays where the timing was off but at the end of the day, the ball was in my hands. It was still an unbelievable experience coming from Baylor to here and getting thrown into this system," he said. "It was great for me to understand concepts and protections and what it's going to be like at the next level. I had an absolute blast." The signal-caller is gunning to be at least the third player at the position taken in the draft and will head back to train with QB guru George Whitfield and dial down on his fundamentals as somebody taking snaps from under center in a pro-style offense.)(1-24-15): http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000462872/article/eight-things-we-learned-from-the-2015-senior-bowl

Senior Bowl: NFL prospects who helped, hurt their draft stock in Mobile (The strong-armed quarterback announced himself as the No. 1 quarterback in the draft this week. However, inefficiencies in Petty's game have emerged. Petty did his best to shed the label of a "system quarterback" but struggled under center and made questionable decisions with his throws. "If you take away [Petty's] first read he gets out of his comfort zone and tends to make mistakes," one AFC scout told FOXSports.com. Petty's performance in Saturday's game included overthrowing a wide-open East Carolina's Justin Hardy and throwing in tight coverage to TCU's Kevin White, who intercepted the pass. Petty fell short in his opportunity to enter his name among the conversation for third quarterback selected in the draft, assuming Florida State's Jameis Winston and Oregon's Marcus Mariota lead the pack.)(1-24-15):  http://www.foxsports.com/nfl/story/senior-bowl-which-nfl-prospects-made-the-most-of-their-time-in-mobile-012415

Recapping the best and worst of Senior Bowl week (He was picked for missed opportunity.   Bryce Petty learned the perils off attending. He played like just one of the guys amid a mediocre group. Petty did lead all QBs with 123 yards passing Saturday, though he also threw a brutal interception over the head of TE Ben Koyack.)(1-24-15): http://www.si.com/nfl/2015/01/24/senior-bowl-recap

Senior Bowl:  Pauline's Day 3 Risers and Sliders (Petty is picked as a slider.  Thus far, Petty has proven that he's little more than a product of Baylor's high-octane passing offense and has struggled to make scouts believe he offers legitimate NFL talent. He never distinguished himself above the group of mediocre quarterbacks on the North squad and finished his week of Senior Bowl practices by throwing a pair of interceptions on Thursday.) 2015 Senior Bowl Scouting: Thursday North Practice Notes (For the North, none of the quarterbacks stood out in a positive light. Baylor’s Bryce Petty did not showcase any anticipation or field vision for reading coverage. During 7-on-7 pass skeleton drills, he only completed passes to checkdowns and also threw one interception. His inability to scan past his first read is a huge drawback for NFL teams.) Optimum Scouting's 2015 Senior Bowl Scouting: Wednesday North Practice Notes (The best QB present is easily Bryce Petty. He played well in the skeleton drill, but that’s where he should excel. His ball placement is very inconsistent, but he makes enough “wow” throws to keep you interested.) Buzz worthy and buzz kill players from Day 2 at the Senior Bowl (Petty is a buzz kill.  Petty has struggled stringing together completions in team drills over the past two days and the questions persist about his ability to transition into a pro-style system after thriving in Art Briles' innovative scheme at Baylor. From his raw, unrefined footwork under center to his inconsistent ball placement on intermediate and deep throws, Petty is a work in progress and he will need time to develop at the next level.):   http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000461678/article/buzzworthy-and-buzzkill-players-from-day-2-at-the-senior-bowl

2015 Senior Bowl Scouting: Tuesday North Practice Notes (He looked crisp at times with his drop backs and flashed the most arm talent of the North quarterbacks. As one might expect the timing aspect isn’t there and it will be worth noting how he progresses under the Tennessee Titans coaching staff.) Senior Bowl Day 1: Luc, Perryman shine, QBs disappoint as expected (Baylor's Bryce Petty. He showed decent touch on deep balls, though he did struggle at times getting passes to the perimeter.)(1-21-15): http://www.si.com/nfl/2015/01/20/nfl-draft-senior-bowl-jeff-luc-denzel-perryman-nick-marshall

2015 Senior Bowl: Crowder stands tall among North team receivers (Tuesday was a mixed bag from Baylor quarterback Petty.  He did a nice job taking snaps under center and did an adequate job with his footwork in his drops. However, Petty's accuracy and timing were off, something that could be the result of undeveloped chemistry between him and his targets. Nonetheless, he needs to show consistent improvement each day in practice.) Senior Bowl players to watch (The biggest name currently in the Day 3 range is Petty, a 6-foot-3, 230-pounder who is an excellent athlete but had an uneven senior year, despite throwing for 3,855 yards in Baylor's explosive offense. There are always questions about a quarterback's ability to transition to the pros from Art Briles' system, including how he'll handle increased pressure in the pocket, and the Senior Bowl is an opportunity for Petty to take a step back forward. There is plenty of room for a quarterback to separate himself and move up into that Day 2 range.) Scout's Take: 10 most intriguing prospects at the Senior Bowl (With spread quarterbacks struggling to transition to the pro game in recent years, scouts are paying close attention to how quickly Petty adapts to playing in a pro-style system this week. Evaluators will closely scrutinize his fundamentals, mechanics and footwork to see if he can handle the basic requirements of playing the position at the next level. In addition, scouts will want to see if his spectacular production as a two-year starter was a byproduct of playing in a unique offensive system or a result of his superb judgment directing an offense that stresses the defense with tempo and spacing.) Senior Bowl: Pauline's 20 To Watch (Petty put up the passing yards in college faster than AJ Foyt raced around the Indianapolis Speedway back in the day. But is Petty a product of the Baylor system and does he possess the necessary arm strength to play on Sundays? His ability to drive deep throws in one-on-one drills and play within an NFL system during full scrimmage is critical.) NFL Draft Watch: 20 players we'll be watching at the Senior Bowl (He might be the best talent down here, and Petty aims to use this week as his chance to move up in a draft class of quarterbacks that has been described as "Jameis Winston, Marcus Mariota and the rest." Petty lacks ideal measurables, doesn't have a cannon for an arm and comes from the Bears' spread, one-read offense, the likes of which has produced a mixed bag of NFL passers. That said, he's tough, quick-thinking and can thread the ball into tight windows. At 24 years old, his appeal is watered down, but Petty can help raise his stock if he shows to be the cream of the Mobile crop.) Senior Bowl Week Preview (He’s got a decent arm and has proven he can sling it into tight spaces all over the field. Before getting too excited about him as a prospect, two things to keep in mind--he’s overaged at 24 and he’s suffered a broken back, torn up knee and at least two major concussions that caused him to miss games (one in HS). The QB thirst is very real, however, and he’s a potential top 35 overall pick.) (1-19-15):      http://football.realgm.com/analysis/2588/Senior-Bowl-Week-Preview

Instant debate: Who has most at stake in Senior Bowl? (Petty is one of the prospects with the most at stake) (1-19-15):     http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000460197/article/instant-debate-who-has-most-at-stake-in-senior-bowl

2015 Senior Bowl: North Offense Scouting Preview (Bryce Petty entered the season as one of the higher rated senior passer with his vertical passing skills and release quickness, but still appears to be a developmental prospect. His progressions were limited in Art Briles’ wide open, spread attack and he repeatedly had issues adjusting to pressure fronts. Petty needs time to acclimate to an NFL offense and improve his reset footwork when pressured, so it will be important to watch how he develops throughout the Senior Bowl process.) 2015 NFL Draft: Prospects to watch this bowl season (QB Bryce Petty, Baylor - Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic (Jan. 1, 12:30 p.m.) vs. Michigan State:  What to watch:Coming from Baylor's spread, quick-read offense, scouts are divided on the pro prospects of Petty, who has the physical talent, but his ability to handle pressure and consistently make correct reads are question marks in his transition to the NFL. Few in college football are as good as Michigan State defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi at dialing up blitzes and confusing quarterbacks and he'll have a defensive gameplan geared towards making Petty uncomfortable.) Week 13 Prospect Preview (QB Bryce Petty had his most impressive performance of 2014 in Baylor's last game, completing a career-best 32 passes against Oklahoma. With three games left on the Bears' regular season schedule, it's crucial for Petty to string together three more positive performances to show scouts he can be consistent, especially when his team needs him the most.)(11-20-15):   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/24822379/nfl-draft-prospect-preview-who-to-watch-in-week-13

Week 8 Stock Report (In a weak crop of senior quarterback prospects, Petty was widely believed to be the top senior at the position, but his performance in the West Virginia game was discouraging to see and summed up several of his issues as he transitions to the next level. Petty often predetermines his reads and locks in to his primary target, struggling to consistently diagnose the defense to work through his progressions. He is always in shotgun formation and isn't asked to move his feet unless he has to and once he's pressured, Petty is out of his element, struggling to reset his base or eyes. Petty tests a lot of vertical throws with a lot of bucket tosses, but he doesn't throw for a high percentage downfield and often throws up passes that can be best categorized as 50-50 balls. The final statline wasn't pretty either as Petty finished Saturday's game with 44.4-percent completions (16-for-36) for only 223 yards and two scores, well below his season averages. He has a lot of positive throws out there along with size, mobility and resilient toughness to rally the troops, but NFL teams are already weary about quarterbacks from spread offenses and game tapes like Saturday's won't help his draft stock. Petty was considered a 2nd-3rd round pick entering the season according to the scouts I talk to, but right now, that looks like a best case scenario for him.) (10-20-14):   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/nfl-draft-scout/24761269/nfl-draft-week-8-stock-report

Petty was diagnosed with two cracks in the transverse process of his back (9-1-14):   http://www.foxsports.com/college-football/story/baylor-bears-bryce-petty-back-injury-090114

What each college QB needs to prove in 2014 (Petty had already graduated from Baylor before he took his first snap as the team's starting quarterback, so he had to be patient, work hard and stay focused before he received an opportunity. He made the most of it when his time finally arrived last season, throwing for 4,200 yards, 32 touchdowns and just three interceptions. Petty will have to continue to polish his game as he prepares for the next level, and scouts will be watching to see how Petty and Baylor respond now that they have a target on their backs coming off the school's first Big 12 championship. Petty is not going to be sneaking up on anyone this time around. Teams have had a full offseason to craft a plan for how they'll try to stop him. Everyone's coming after Baylor. Can Petty rise to the occasion and show scouts he deserves to be the first quarterback off the board in next year's draft?)
