David Cobb, RB, Minnesota: I believe we will see two running backs taken in the first round (Todd Gurley and Melvin Gordon), and a few others could come off the board in Round 2. "I think he's going to be an excellent value pick because the position is so deep in this draft. Lions Combine Gleanings (USC’s Buck Allen is a player I know the Lions have scouted intently. He also impressed with a 1.58 10-yard split at 221 pounds. An added plus in his column is that he was part of a backfield-by-committee and had just 416 carries in the last three years. That’s 200 fewer than guys like Jeremy Langford or David Cobb, other 4th or 5th round candidates. Personally I prefer Cobb of that trio.) Minnesota RB David Cobb didn't help his cause much in turning in a 4.81 40-yard dash, although it should be noted that he came up hobbled on the attempt. Senior Bowl Review: Offense ( David Cobb, Minnesota - Cobb entered the week as my top back and stays there. Running backs have a difficult time shining during all star event practices, since many plays are blown dead on first contact. Cobb shines at creating yards on his own after breaking contact and is comfortable in space for a bigger back. I would not say he is a “good” pass protector at this time, but the foundation is there. Week 5 Risers and Sliders (David Cobb/RB/Minnesota: Prior to the season I mentioned how surprising it was Cobb receives little mention in the scouting community. The senior is considered a street free agent by most scouts while I stamped him as a potential seventh round choice. Cobb stole the show during the Gophers shellacking of Michigan, totaling 183 yards on 32 carries. Prior to the game the Wolverines fielded one of the better run defenses in the conference. Cobb is a big-bodied (220lbs) ball carrier who pounds opponents on the inside while offering enough short area quickness to make defenders miss.
