NFL Power Rankings: Ranking every division in the NFL ahead of the 2020 season (5. NFC North (Average team win total: 7.95 (5th), Average team ELO ranking: 1501 (5th)): In my opinion, one of the biggest stories of this offseason is the lack of improvement and likely regression from teams at the top of the NFC North. The Green Bay Packers failed to give Aaron Rodgers more pass-catching options to work with, even though this was one of the team's biggest needs heading into the offseason. Their only “major” addition at wide receiver, Devin Funchess, opted out of the 2020 NFL season. The Minnesota Vikings, meanwhile, traded away Stefon Diggs and are set to undergo pretty heavy turnover on defense. And in Chicago, a lot will hinge on the quarterback position — and with Mitchell Trubisky and Nick Foles battling it out for that job, it's hard to feel too confident in their chances. That gives the Detroit Lions what is probably the best chance in the NFL at going “worst to first.” Their offense was having success with a downfield passing attack before Matthew Stafford's injury last season, and despite the loss of Darius Slay, they did a decent job of adding to their defense (Jeffrey Okudah, Desmond Trufant, Duron Harmon, Jamie Collins, Danny Shelton, Julian Okwara, etc.). 2020 NFL Quarterback Rankings: Does Lamar, Mahomes or Russ take the top spot? (11. Stafford: Matthew Stafford did not move up very far in these rankings compared to last year, when I had him as the league’s 12th-best quarterback. Yes, before his injury, he was putting up top-5 numbers while getting back to his gun-slinger ways but I don’t think he himself improved all that much. The offense around him just got better and played more to his strengths. The tape still shows a strong-armed quarterback who can occasionally be overwhelmed with what the defense is doing after the snap and one who still misses a few too many throws due to inconsistent mechanics. When he gets hot with his deep ball, as he did in 2019, Stafford is capable of looking like one of the NFL’s best. 11 NFL veterans who could be in roster bubble trouble in 2020 (Lions WR Jamal Agnew: Agnew is an interesting case in that he’s moving from cornerback to receiver for the 2020 season. Selected in the fifth round of the 2017 draft by Detroit. Angew has provided primary value as a return man — he led the NFL in punt return yards and touchdowns in 2017 and had a 100-yard kick return last season — but he had just 131 coverage snaps in his career as a cornerback, and he may find it tough to get reps as a receiver with a team that had at least three receivers on the field on 64% of its snaps last season (ranking 19th in the league), and already has a stacked receiver corps with Marvin Jones, Kenny Golladay, and Danny Amendola, not to mention tight end T.J. Picking the 2020 win total over/unders for all 32 NFL teams (Detroit Lions: 6.5 (+115/-139) (Charles: Over, Nick: Over, Steven: Over): While I’m not jumping on the Lions’ bandwagon like a lot of NFL analysts are this offseason, this team is a lot better than what we saw last year in Detroit. They lost just about every close game they were in and Matthew Stafford missed nearly half the season.
