Walterfootball Charlie (7. QB Trey Lance - Detroit starts the rebuilding process with their quarterback of the future. The Lions could be in good position to have Trey Lance or Justin Fields fall to them. Lance's one game of the 2020 season was a mixed outing. He missed some throws and made some mistakes, but considering the rust factor, that is somewhat understandable. Lance completed 15-of-30 passes for 149 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries as well. The 2019 season was Lance's first year of playing time, and he produced a huge year, completing 67 percent of his passes for 2,786 yards with 28 touchdowns and zero interceptions. Lance is listed at 6-foot-3, 221 pounds, and sources say he has a good skill set of physical tools. In the spring of 2020, scouts told me they needed to see more from Lance and were wary of a 1-year-wonder situation, but North Dakota State had its football season canceled, other than that one game, which makes Lance a tougher and more risky evaluation for the 2021 NFL Draft. 41. DT Levi Onwuzurike: The Lions need more edge rushers, linebackers, and interior defensive line talent. Here's the last. The 6-foot-3, 290-pounder is a quick gap shooter who gets penetration and is disruptive in the backfield. He is strong for his size and a tough run defender. Onwuzurike is more of a disruptor than producer in the pass rush, totaling just seven sacks over three seasons. He had 34 tackles in 2018 and 45 stops in 2019 before sitting out the 2020 season. 72. WR Tamorrion Terry: The Lions could lose a lot of veterans at wide receiver in free agency and might need to use some early-round picks to get Matthew Stafford some weapons. Terry caught 23 passes for 289 yards and a touchdown in 2020 before ending his season early. He had been banged up, but that doesn't entirely excuse the big plays he left on the field due to dropped passes. Terry totaled 60 receptions for 1,188 yards and nine scores in 2019. As redshirt freshman, he made 35 receptions for 744 yards and eight touchdowns. Entering the 2020 season team sources were high on Terry's potential with his excellent combination of size and speed. CB Paulson Adebo: The Lions have serious problems at cornerback, so they may use a second-day pick on the position. Paulson Adebo has great size, coverage skills and play-making ability. He struggled a bit in 2019, but could rebound next year. 72. WR Marques Stevenson: Marvin Jones isn't expected back next year, so the Lions need a new No. 2 receiver. Draft Tek (7. QB Trey Lance: It's official. Matthew Stafford's days in Detroit are numbered. For years we've speculated if the team would ever move on from their former 1st overall pick, and post-Quinntricia regime, that speculation got even more ramped up. Those days of speculation are over and Lions' fans can breathe a breath of fresh air. The winds of change are coming. Now that the Lions have made it clear that Stafford is on the trading block, new GM Brad Holmes and Head Coach Dan Campbell will be judged by the assets they get in return. The first step was to see if they identified an aging QB on a, as they put it, "retooling" team, was important in judging their ability to know the status of the roster. The next step, is what they receive in return and pending the return for Stafford, what will they do with the #7 overall selection? I truly believe it will be a QB at #7. As our analysts jockey QBs in the weeks to come, it will be more clear as to which QB teams ahead of Detroit will be keying in on. Whoever becomes available for Detroit, they can not afford to skip out on a QB at #7. The best available, at least in this simulation, Trey Lance, Kyle Trask and Mac Jones. With their pick of the litter, Lance would provide the Lions with more versatility and while I understand that some would be skeptical of Lance as he comes from a smaller school in North Dakota State (Carson Wentz alma matter), Mac Jones and Kyle Trask would be the "safe" pick as they have the perceived pedigree. Lance would be someone to provide some jolt to the offense, and his ability to extend plays only allows added opportunities for the Lions young playmakers (Swift, Golladay, Hockenson) on offense to find a way to get open and move the chains.
