Week 1 Power Rankings

CBS (30. Lions:  New coach Dan Campbell will have this team playing tough, physical football. The question is the talent. They don't have enough yet to compete in the division. Jared Goff will play better than the experts think.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-1-power-rankings-buccaneers-start-season-at-no-1-but-bills-will-stand-in-way-of-super-bowl-repeat/

PFN (Tier 5: There’s something to excite fans
These teams are all building back toward relevance. Some are doing a better job than others, but they all have hope. Whether it be a new coaching staff, a new front office, or a new franchise quarterback, each one of these teams has a reason to hope for the future.  30. Detroit Lions:  The Lions don’t have any receivers that resemble anything close to a true WR1. However, they spent significant draft capital on the defensive side of the ball, and they got some outstanding value along the way. With a now healthy Jeff Okudah, this defense could start rounding into a competitive unit as the season progresses if the rookie class can bring some juice. Don’t forget about the Okwara brothers, either. That could be a fun sibling unit to watch for the future.  Even though they fall at 30 in the Week 1 NFL power rankings, they have the makings of a fun team in Detroit, sans a franchise QB.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-power-rankings-2021-nflwk-1/

NFL.com (31. Lions (Previous rank: No. 31):  The Lions gave Breshad Perriman $2 million guaranteed this offseason, then cut the former first-round pick before Week 1. It profiles as organizational folly, sure, but it also shows the new braintrust isn't too proud to admit a mistake and move on. Jared Goff will open the season with Tyrell Williams, Quintez Cephus, Kalif Raymond and Amon-Ra St. Brown as his top wide receivers. It's an unproven group to say the least, and lends more credence to third-year tight end T.J. Hockenson seeing Darren Waller-level targets in 2021.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-1-buccaneers-chiefs-begin-2021-season-on-top

Yahoo (31. Detroit Lions (LW: 31):  Releasing Breshad Perriman was a surprise, and it's a reminder this team is going to have a poor passing game. Expect a lot of 16-10 games. At least the Lions hope most games are 16-10. ):  https://sports.yahoo.com/nfl-power-rankings-bill-belichick-has-a-rookie-qb-so-what-do-we-make-of-patriots-120033958.html

USA Today (31. Lions (31): New coach Dan Campbell continues winning his press conferences, but victories on the field will surely be much harder to come by.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/nate-davis/2021/09/07/nfl-power-rankings-week-1-2021-buccaneers-packers-cowboys/5749766001/

SI (31. Detroit Lions (Points in poll: 21, Highest-place vote: 28 (1), Lowest-place vote: 31 (5), Postdraft rank: 31, Week 1: vs. 49ers):  The Lions are in what should be a multiyear rebuilding project, but it will be interesting to see how Dan Campbell’s schtick plays if and when the losses start to pile up.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/2021/09/07/nfl-preason-power-rankings-chiefs-packers-buccaneers

PFT (31. Lions: The culture change may work, but it’ll take time to get the players necessary to yield results. And they’ll likely need someone else at quarterback.):  https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2021/09/07/pfts-week-one-2021-power-rankings/

Athlonsports (31. Detroit Lions:  Trading away Matthew Stafford pretty much signaled a franchise going through a reboot and even with a veteran like Jared Goff to help smooth things over under center, this could be a(nother) rough season in Detroit. Dan Campbell’s antics will be worth the price of admission even if the football might not given the dearth of playmakers on the roster.):  https://athlonsports.com/nfl/nfl-power-rankings

Walter football (31. Detroit Lions NFL Power Rankings Detroit Lions (5-11) - Previously: 31.
I thought the Lions had the best chance to finish with the worst record in the NFL, but that was prior to the Deshaun Watson allegations. Still, Detroit fans shouldn't be too worried because I have their team selecting one of the top quarterbacks in next April's draft in my 2022 NFL Mock Draft.):  https://walterfootball.com/nflpowerrankings.php

Touchdown wire (31. Detroit Lions:  The Lions defense was gashed in 2020 and Jared Goff is now steering the ship on offense. After cutting Breshad Perriman, Goff has an even further uphill battle ahead of him. At least Detroit head coach Dan Campbell won’t disappoint at the microphone.):  https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-week-1-power-rankings-buccaneers-chiefs-tom-brady-patrick-mahomes/
