PFN Fragoza (2. Detroit Lions: DE Aidan Hutchinson:  Aidan Hutchinson doesn’t need two lengthy paragraphs to justify his selection at No. 2 overall. After a solid 2019 campaign followed by an injury-shortened 2020, Hutchinson blew up in 2021. He generated 14 sacks, earned first-team All-Big Ten and All-American honors, and was the third defensive player to finish second in the history of the Heisman Trophy.  32. Detroit Lions (from LA Rams): QB Desmond Ridder:  After selecting their defensive leader with the No. 2 overall pick, the Lions find their future on the offense. Desmond Ridder has all the tools to be a starting NFL quarterback. He’s a quick processor, has a big enough arm, and can burn teams with his legs when necessary. Ridder’s ball placement and accuracy are worrisome, but he has the tools and work ethic to take a shot on.  34. Detroit Lions

CBS Stackpole (2. DE Aidan Hutchinson:  Detroit doesn't overthink this and drafts the homegrown Hutchison, who has double-digit sack potential in Year 1 playing opposite of Romeo Okwara.  32. S Jalen Pitre:  Aaron Glenn's defense places a lot of importance on the safety position, and the Lions could lose leading-tackler Tracy Walker III in free agency. As a result, Detroit goes with Pitre, a player whom the coaching staff worked closely with at the Senior Bowl.) Touchdown wire (2.  Detroit Lions: S Kyle Hamilton:  A safety with the second-overall selection? When we are talking about perhaps the best football player in the class, it makes sense. While the Detroit Lions have a need at quarterback, there is no need to force a player at that position this early, given this class. Kyle Hamilton is an elite talent that can play in a few different roles, whether as a pure free safety, down in the box, a half-field safety, or in man coverage against mismatch-type players.  32.  Detroit Lions (from Los Angeles Rams): WR Jahan Dotson:  What, no quarterback? Sure, the Detroit Lions could entertain a passer at this spot, and if Carson Strong’s knee checks out in Indianapolis he could be an option here. But unless a passer falls into their lap at this spot, and it is someone they love, there is no need to draft the fifth- or sixth-best option in this class. Instead, they can continue to rebuild their roster, and they add a receiver with game-breaking skills in Jahan Dotson. Dotson can operate on the boundary and is explosive in the downfield part of the playbook, and might be a perfect complement to what Amon Ra St.-Brown offers to the Lions’ passing game.) CBS Edwards (2. DE Aidan Hutchinson:  Verbal Venn diagram: One circle is culture fit and the other is talent at a position of need. Hutchinson is the overlap in the middle. Dan Campbell had the emphasis kneecap-biter remark in his introductory press conference and fans saw that spirit from his team all season. It would make sense to continue leaning into that culture shift when a clear and obvious upgrade does not exist at the quarterback position.  32.  WR Chris Olave:  Detroit will be making the pick for the defending Super Bowl champions, and it should not look a gift horse in the mouth. Draft wire (2. Detroit Lions - DE Aidan Hutchinson:  This pick will be an edge rusher, whether it’s Hutchinson or Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux. While Thibodeaux might have more athleticism and a higher ceiling, he’s not quite as consistent, polished or as complete a defender as Hutchinson right now.  32. Detroit Lions - QB Desmond Ridder:  I don’t think the Lions are going into this draft planning to take a quarterback, but if someone like Ridder is still on the board here, they might not be able to resist. He’s got all the tools to become a successful starter at the next level, and the Lions get that fifth-year option by taking him here, which is even more valuable with a quarterback.  34. Yahoo (2. Detroit Lions - Michigan EDGE Aidan Hutchinson:  Wouldn't count out Kayvon Thibodeaux here, as the Lions reportedly are fans of his athleticism and versatility. But Hutchinson just feels like the exact mold of tone setter the Lions are seeking. Dan Campbell would love this guy. The Lions are building this roster back up through the trenches.  32. USC Drake London:  Depending on what London runs at the NFL combine (assuming he runs there), he could rise ... or drop just a bit. He's a high-volume receiver who is tight with former USC teammate and Lions 2021 fourth-rounder Amon-Ra St. Brown. Draft Tek (2. DE Kayvon Thibodeaux: Perhaps one of the safest places to be in this year's NFL Draft is exactly where the Lions are at #2. With us mocking Alabama's Evan Neal to Jacksonville, Detroit has the luxury of selecting either Kayvon Thibodeaux or Aidan Hutchinson, both being elite edge rushers.  It's somewhat unfamiliar territory for the Lions as in many years, they have found themselves in precarious situations regarding draft position. I go back to a few seasons ago with Jeff Okudah taken at #3 in 2020 and T.J. Hockenson at #8 in 2019. Many (including myself) clamored Bob Quinn to consider other options at these draft positions, but given the pick and the field of players available, what's a man to do? I remember vividly calling for Justin Jefferson citing Marvin Jones's age and Kenny Golladay's contract situation in 2020's NFL Draft but instead, Okudah was the selection. What a get that would have been right? We for sure wouldn't be talking about wide receivers!  The point being, the Lions (for once) can't really go wrong being in the position they're in currently with the #2 selection. If Jacksonville ends up taking either Thibodeaux or Hutchinson, they can go with the next one available. If Jacksonville does in fact take Neal, the Lions have their pick of the litter. Another consideration is to trade down and get more value since they did lose some value with the Rams pick at #31 or #32, pending their Super Bowl outcome. Either way, I'm excited for any scenario under this new regime and you should be too! - Doug Hyde, Lions Analyst  32.  WR David Bell:  Let it be known that I love Purdue's David Bell. He's my type of wide receiver. Versatile receiver that can run any route, make any catch, exceptional footwork to fool DBs and get that extra spacing, reliable hands, need I say more?  Watching many of his games this year really got me wondering who he reminded me of, who his pro comparison would be. No matter how often I watched him, his sure-handedness, shiftiness, and ability to catch the football deep and short, I just couldn't shake the thought of Golden Tate.  Now, I know what you're probably thinking, look at Doug reliving some of the Lions better years, but I assure you it's not like that. David Bell just has that feel to him, that "I'm not going to stop here" mentality. He wants to make the catch and get extra yardage. When he's moving, being hit in stride, he wants to do more damage. If anything, instead of being a G.O.A.T. (as the kids say these days) I want to start calling David Bell the "YAC". You know, for...yards after the....catch.  Anyway, David Bell needs to be in a Lions uniform come Draft Day. Make it happen Mr. Holmes. We need receivers in that locker room that not only want to score (like everyone does), but has the ability to do so on every play. Lightning in a bottle. - Doug Hyde, Lions Analyst. 34.  LB Nakobe Dean:  One of my favorite defensive players in this draft, Nakobe Dean to Detroit would send me through the roof if Detroit was able to grab him here. What an addition this would be to add more speed, athleticism and instinct to not only the defense, but the linebacker group as a whole.  With Alex Anzalone and Jalen Reeves-Maybin both unrestricted free agents, Derrick Barnes will most definitely be asked to fill in more of a role if neither are brought back. The team will need to add a linebacker through the draft or upgrade through free agency. I'd prefer the draft if they can add such a high impact player like Dean in the 2nd Round. - Doug Hyde, Lions Analyst.  66. CB Cobe Bryant:  The first-ever American Athletic Conference Jim Thorpe award winner, Coby Bryant, looks the part of an NFL-caliber cornerback. He certainly seems like a good fit here for Detroit as an insurance policy to Jeff Okudah.  A high draft pick from the Bob Quinn era, Okudah has not looked the part nor seems to be adapting to NFL speed. With the emergence of Amani Oruwariye this season, and great contributions from Jerry Jacobs, the Lions could use another corner like Bryant to "shore up" the group in case Okudah is a bust. - Doug Hyde, Lions Analyst.   97. S Smoke Monday:  Love this player. Quindarious Monday, "Smoke", is a hard-hitting safety for the Auburn Tigers. If you're unfamiliar with him, do youself a favor and just check out his highlights. If you like hard-hitting, sound tackling technique, and a defensive back who is going to lay the lumber on any ballcarrier, Smoke's your dude. This would be a tone-setter type selection for the Lions' defense given their current safety situation consists of Will Harris and Tracy Walker (hardly known for big hits). FTW D'Andrea (2.  Detroit Lions (3-13-1): EDGE Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan (Team needs: WR, DE, LB, CB, S, QB):  The Lions ranked 30th in sacks and 29th in pressure rate in 2021. Hutchinson, a 6’6, 265-pound monster who had 3.5 sacks in his first 22 games at Michigan and 14 as a senior, would be an immediate difference-maker. The former Wolverine was dominant against blue chip offensive linemen last fall, most notably tearing Ohio State to shreds in a three sack, three tackle-for-loss performance.  Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux has been sliding in early pre-draft circles (though he’s probably still a top five pick), but a ridiculous Combine showing would put him firmly in consideration at the top of Day 1. With Taylor Decker and Penei Sewell entrenched at the tackle positions, it’s a near certainty the No. 2 pick goes to one of these two pass rushers.  32. CBS Trapasso (2. DE Aidan Hutchinson:  Hutchinson represents high floor and high upside. He's going to be the No. 1 rusher in Detroit immediately.  32.   WR David Bell:  Bell has experience and a long history of productivity on the outside. Walterfootball (2.  Detroit Lions: WR Drake London: The Lions will investigate both top quarterbacks. If they fall in love with one of them, they will draft that signal-caller; no questions asked. Whether or not they become smitten with Kenny Pickett or Malik Willis is the big question. We'll see what happens at the combine, but neither quarterback was great at the Senior Bowl.  Pass rusher would make sense for the Lions, but in his mock draft, Charlie Campbell wrote that the Lions weren't overly impressed with either edge player. Thus, they could look into adding a dynamic receiver, copying what the Bengals did when they added Ja'Marr Chase to a receiving corps led by Tee Higgins.  Drake London has mismatch size, and he could be the first receiver off the board in the 2022 NFL Draft. He has drawn comparisons to Mike Evans.  32. Detroit Lions: S Daxton Hill:  The Lions have huge holes throughout their roster, and their secondary is no exception.  Daxton Hill played great as the nickel cornerback this year, but he may move to safety in the NFL.  34.  LB Damone Clark:  The Lions have a major lack of talent at linebacker, so they'll need to address this area soon.  Damone Clark could be the next great LSU linebacker with his size and speed.  65.  CB Josh Jobe:  Jeff Okudah looks like a bust thus far, but even if he pans out, the Lions still need cornerback help for their horrendous secondary.  Josh Jobe is a big, athletic cornerback with tremendous upside.) USA Today Davis (2. Detroit Lions – DE Aidan Hutchinson, Michigan: Certainly a highly realistic chance he goes No. 1 to Jacksonville given his widely praised character, relentless effort between the lines and production, the Heisman Trophy runner-up setting a Wolverines record with 14 sacks in 2021. The 6-6, 265-pounder’s approach to the game certainly seems to dovetail with the culture Lions coach Dan Campbell is trying to cultivate, and Hutchinson’s local ties would surely make him a home run pick for Detroit … if he “falls” this far.  32. Lions (from Los Angeles Rams) – QB Matt Corral, Mississippi: He’s not big (6-1, 205), though might be a different story if you could measure his heart. He’s also got sizable arm strength and athleticism and might be the kind of guy you want to invest in for a year – or at least part of a season – before unleashing him. Due to the structure of his contract, Detroit will likely have QB Jared Goff for one more season. But Corral might be worth a late first-round pick that could solidify this franchise’s long-term outlook.) Fox sports Rob Rang (2. Detroit Lions: S Kyle Hamilton - The Lions need a dynamic edge rusher and have a unique perspective on Kayvon Thibodeaux because last year’s top pick, Penei Sewell, faced him every day for two years at Oregon.   Thibodeaux is arguably the most gifted rusher in this draft, but the inconsistency and injuries that characterized his college career are the antithesis of the traits Detroit GM Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell prioritize. As such, should the local hero, Hutchinson, be off the board, don’t be surprised if the Lions address their defense with Hamilton, the most unique talent in this class.   32. Detroit Lions (from Los Angeles Rams): Nakobe Dean, ILB, Georgia - The Lions' top two tacklers at linebacker, Alex Anzalone and Jalen Reeves-Maybin, are pending free agents and might not be priorities to re-sign as the roster rebuild continues. Detroit Lions: WR Drake London - The Lions are keeping their options open with the second-overall pick, and I do not believe they are in love with Aidan Hutchinson or Kayvon Thibodeaux. They badly need a No. 1 receiver, and London could be a Mike Evans-type wideout. If London becomes that good, then he won't have been a reach with the No. 2 pick. When you consider Detriot has two picks other in the low 30s, there isn't a huge drop from Hutchinson and Thibodeaux to the edge rushers at that part of the 2022 NFL Draft; the dropoff at receiver, however, is much bigger. Hence as a whole, the Lions could become a more talented team by going with a receiver first.  London hauled in 88 receptions for 1,084 yards and seven touchdowns over his eight-game 2021 before a fractured ankle ended his year. The 6-foot-5, 210-pounder has mismatch size and is a dangerous 50-50 receiver with his ability to win contested catches. After the catch, London is a threat to pick up yardage as he is a physical runner and is tough for defensive backs to get to the ground. With his skill set, London is a real asset in the red zone.  London is a bit of a love/hate prospect in speaking with different scouts. The evaluators who don't like him feel that his speed is average at best and that he will struggle to get open enough in the NFL. The scouts who like London feel he is a cross between Keenan Allen, Mike Evans, and Michael Thomas. They say he is a good route-runner, and has some suddenness and feel for his size. They also feel, however, that separating from NFL cornerbacks is going to be a problem for him.  London was in a crowded depth chart in 2019 and 2020, but he  still showed some intriguing ability. In 2020, he had 33 catches for 502 yards and three touchdowns over six games with Amon-Ra St. Brown as the featured receiver. As a freshman, London caught 39 passes for 567 yards and five touchdowns with St. Brown and Michael Pittman Jr. ahead of London in targets.  32.  LB Damone Clark:  The Lions need a couple of upgrades at linebacker to go with Derrick Barnes.  Clark was a tackling machine in 2021, ending up as one of with one of the highest totals in the NCAA, and has shot up draft boards. Team sources have been raving about Clark (6-3, 245), saying his skill set is similar to Micah Parsons'. While Parsons is more explosive and violent as a tackler, Clark has better instincts. They think Clark could be a more athletic and more physical version of Zach Cunningham, who led the NFL in tackles early in his career. Clark is a future three-down starter who is a sideline-to-sideline tackling machine and contribute well in coverage.  In 2021, Clark recorded 135 tackles, two forced fumbles, 5.5 sacks, one interception and two passes defended. He had 63 tackles in 2020 and 49 in 2019 to go along with 3.5 sacks. The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder possesses excellent size to go along with quickness and athleticism. He could be a riser during the 2022 NFL Draft process.  34. DE Arnold Ebiketie - The Lions could use more edge-rushing talent to go with the Okwara brothers.  Some team sources have compared Ebiketie to Yannick Ngakoue, as they are similarly sized speed rushers off the edge. In 2021, Ebiketie totaled 9.5 sacks, 62 tackles and two forced fumbles. In 2020, he had 42 tackles, four sacks and three forced fumbles. Ebiketie (6-3, 256) is undersized and has some stiffness, but he is fast off the edge.  66.  S Jaquan Brisker:  Detroit could use more safety talent.  Brisker is a talented player with speed, instincts and versatility, plus he is willing to get physical. Brisker collected 43 tackles, two interceptions and four passes broken up in 2021. In 2020, he flashed at times for the Nittany Lions while recording 57 tackles, four passes defended and an interception. He totaled 31 tackles, two interceptions and four passes defended in 2019. Brisker has a tendency to get banged up and gets more attention from trainers than NFL teams like to see. The 6-foot-1, 203-pounder has starting potential and could be a good value pick on Day 2 of the 2022 NFL Draft.  97.  CB Jalyn Armour-Davis - PROJECTED COMPENSATORY PICK: PROJECTED COMPENSATORY PICK: Per team sources, the Lions are likely to get a compensatory pick for losing Kenny Golladay in free agency last year. Detroit could use more cornerback talent.  Armour-Davis is a big cornerback who has a good skill set. In 2021, he recorded three interceptions, 32 tackles and four passes defended. The 6-foot-1, 192-pounder could improve as he gains experience. Armour-Davis won the starting cornerback spot opposite Josh Jobe as the replacement for Patrick Surtain. CBS Wilson (2.  DE Aidan Hutchinson:  Hutchinson is a great example of a player who got better each and every season, and instead of coming out early he stayed in school, balled out as a senior, and made himself into arguably the best player -- on either side of the ball -- in the country during the 2021 college football season. This will be the easiest pick in the draft for any team.  32.  QB Malik Willis:  This is probably more in line with where Willis should go off the board (we have a second-round grade on him) but that doesn't mean teams looking for a quarterback won't take one 15 to 30 picks before they should. If the Lions do target Willis here it has to be with the understanding that he'll be a backup in '22 while Jared Goff continues to hold down the job. Willis has all the tools you look for in an athletic, strong-armed QB but he's also extremely raw. It would be reckless to throw him into the lineup as a rookie.) NFL.com Reuter (2. DE Aidan Hutchinson:  Keeping the winner of the 2021 Ted Hendricks (top DE) and Lombardi (top lineman) Awards in Michigan will, of course, help the team's pass rush. Hutchinson's toughness against the run and football intelligence, however, also played big roles in making him the Heisman Trophy runner-up and a top-five prospect.  32. PFF Renner (2. DETROIT LIONS: S Kyle Hamilton:  Hamilton isn’t just the most impressive safety prospect by far; he’s one of the most impressive prospects in the entire draft. The fact that he plays a low-paid position like safety isn’t a big factor in my eyes, given how versatile he is at 6-foot-4, 220 pounds.  32. QB Sam Howell:  Howell will almost assuredly have to redshirt once he gets to the NFL, given the difference between his college offense and the one he'll be running in the pros. Detroit Lions — Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan:  There are few more perfect marriages of player, head coach and team need than the terror off the edge from just up the road in Ann Arbor landing with the Lions. Hutchinson is in play to go with the top pick so those in Detroit hope that Week 18 win won't cost them a shot at the Wolverine stud.  32. Detroit Lions (from Los Angeles Rams) — Malik Willis, QB, Liberty:  One of the more unique prospects under center, Willis is built like a linebacker and spins it with a cannon of an arm few can match. NFL.com Frelund (2. DE Aidan Hutchinson:  I’d put the chances proud Michigan alum Rich Eisen brings up Hutchinson's 15 pressures in the Wolverines' win over Ohio State on draft day at 99 percent. Hutchinson's burst (velocity off the line of scrimmage over three yards traveled) rates in the top 14 percent, and his ability to change direction and move inside on a tackle ranks in the top 15 percent in my 10-season sample. His run-stopping results in college also rate in the top 25 percentile at the position.  32. WR Jahan Dotson:  Dotson's versatility as someone who could help in the slot and outside drives his fit here. His ability to accelerate in and out of breaks ranked in the top 15 percent of all FBS receivers. The Lions have a lot of needs to address, and adding a sure-handed pass catcher in the first round would be a cost savings at a top-five value position. SN Iyer (2. Detroit Lions - DE Aidan Hutchinson:  The Lions, with Thibodeaux off the board, should simply get a different kind of elite pass rusher for their defensive coordinator,  Aaron Glenn. Hutchinson plays with great energy and power and is still developing his already-strong pass-rush moves. He might be ideal for a 4-3 end, but he's shown he can wreak havoc in any front.   32. I lean toward Thibodeaux, but Hutchinson offers plenty to like. He's productive and improved throughout his career. Also, the fact he played nearby at Michigan could make him slightly more appealing to the Lions.  32. S Jaquan Brisker:  Brisker is an athletic freak who can play at both safety spots, but I prefer him in a free role that allows him to patrol and make plays on the ball. PFF Galina (2. DETROIT LIONS: CB DEREK STINGLEY, LSU:  There is no better player in the draft than Stingley. At LSU’s bowl practices in 2018, he was still the best cornerback on the field despite still being in high school. He parlayed that into one of the best freshman seasons PFF has ever seen in 2019 — he recorded the highest wins above average (WAA) by a non-quarterback that season. The next two seasons were marred by injuries but when he’s on the field, there is no one better. He's a true lockdown cornerback.  31. DETROIT LIONS: S LEWIS CINE, GEORGIA:  The Lions had the second-worst safety group in the league last season, as it posted a 51.9 cumulative grade. Cine fixes that in a hurry. Cine has been used in a multitude of ways in Georgia's defense and fits Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn's archetype for safeties.) DETROIT LIONS: EDGE AIDAN HUTCHINSON, MICHIGAN - Hutchinson is arguably the best player in the draft, and the Lions would be over the moon if he was still on the board at No. 2 overall. Hutchinson was elite this past season at Michigan, totaling 74 pressures from 429 pass-rushing snaps. He recorded a 94.5 overall PFF grade, which puts him in the same ballpark as the Bosa brothers and Myles Garrett, who have translated into dominant players at the next level.  32: DETROIT LIONS (VIA LAR): QB MALIK WILLIS, LIBERTY - The Lions don’t need to make a move at quarterback in this draft, but they also have the kind of freedom to draft a guy with elite upside who needs some work.  Willis has the most spectacular highlight reel tape of any of these quarterbacks but needs time in an NFL system to see if he can play the game in a different way. A sky-high scramble and sack rate this past season are areas of concern, but looking at his best throws will make some teams overlook a lot of negatives. PFN Mellor (2. Detroit Lions: Aidan Hutchinson, EDGE, Michigan:  A Michigan man headed to the Detroit Lions. In a match made in Motor City, Aidan Hutchinson embodies head coach Dan Campbell’s attitude with his play on the field. Hutchinson is a power rusher with incredible strength and balance. He’ll push the pocket with ease while also presenting a challenge to scheme against in all facets.  Hutchinson has great hands and a better motor. He’ll command double teams and allow mismatches elsewhere on defense. The Lions grab a good one.  31. Detroit Lions (From LAR): Kenny Pickett, QB, Pittsburgh:  The future is here for the Detroit Lions as Kenny Pickett‘s slide stops at 31. Pickett will have to answer the inevitable “small hands” questions throughout the draft circuit, but one thing is certain about the former Pitt Panther: he’s a gamer. Pickett gives his team the best chance to win the game by protecting the football and slinging it into places only a few can.  He will throw his receivers open, buy time in the pocket with his athleticism, and find receivers downfield with accuracy to every level. He’ll need some help from his weapons, but Pickett is no stranger to elevating his cast around him.) PFF Sikkema (2. DETROIT LIONS:  EDGE DE Aidan Hutchinson:  With the Lions happy at offensive tackle, they’ll look to the defensive trenches. This pick will come down to who is higher on their big board, Aidan Hutchinson or Kayvon Thibodeaux.  I have a hunch it will be Hutchinson. The Michigan player “staying home” after a stellar season — which included a trip to New York City as a Heisman finalist — feels like the most likely outcome. The 6-foot-6, 265-pound senior racked up 74 pressures and three batted passes across 429 pass-rush snaps in 2021.  31. DETROIT LIONS (VIA LAR): S Jaquan Brisker:  The Lions could opt for a receiver here, but with most of the top receivers off the board, I think they’ll broaden their options, especially with how well Amon-Ra St. Brown played down the stretch. Their secondary needs work, but cornerback isn’t the worst part of it. There’s reason to hold out hope with Jeff Okudah, and Amani Oruwariye showed improvement. Brisker could be a Day 1 player for them. PFN (2. Detroit Lions: Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon:  People have begun to overthink Kayvon Thibodeaux as one of the top prospects in the 2022 NFL Draft. For most pass rushers, 12 tackles for loss, 7 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles would be a statistically satisfactory season. However, many have bemoaned the Oregon edge player’s lack of production this season compared to other prospects in this class.  Let’s clear up a few negative misconceptions. First, Thibodeaux wasn’t 100% healthy this season. Secondly, a lot of his work wasn’t reflected in the box score. The Oregon standout possesses superior athleticism, excellent length, and standout technical ability as a prospect. He’s as adept at stopping the run as he is at rushing the passer.  For a Detroit Lions team that needs to make improvements all over the roster, taking one of the top prospects is a no-brainer, slam-dunk move.  28) Detroit Lions (from LA Rams): Treylon Burks, WR, Arkansas:  The Lions’ second pick in the first round is one of the most intriguing and hotly anticipated selections in the 2022 NFL Draft. Could they strike for a quarterback here? While I wouldn’t rule it out, the most likely scenario is that they ride Jared Goff under center, target a game-changing pass catcher in April, and wait until next year’s class to find a new QB.  As a result, they grab Arkansas WR Treylon Burks to pair with outstanding rookie Amon-Ra St. Brown. Burks is a do-it-all threat who has physicality at the catch point, but he also showcases deceptive athleticism as an after-the-catch weapon who can be used out of the backfield.  34. Detroit Lions

PFF Gayle (PICK NO. 2: DETROIT LIONS: EDGE KAYVON THIBODEAUX, OREGON - The 6-foot-5, 260-pound Thibodeaux earned a 91.3 PFF pass-rushing grade that ranked fourth among all Power Five edge defenders in 2021, behind only Hutchinson (93.6), South Carolina’s Kingsley Enagbare (92.5) and Oklahoma’s Nik Bonitto (92.5). Thibodeaux is a premier player at a premium position — throw need out the window if he’s available at No. 2 overall.  PICK NO. 28: DETROIT LIONS (VIA L.A. RAMS): EDGE DAVID OJABO, MICHIGAN - There’s no debating that Michigan edge defender David Ojabo had an absurd 2021 campaign. Having started his football career in 2017, he played just 26 defensive snaps for the Wolverines in 2020 before exploding with 41 pressures and an 88.2 pass-rushing grade this season. PFN Hodgkinson (2. Detroit Lions: Kayvon Thibodeaux:  Forget the rapid ascension of a certain Michigan pass rusher this season. Forget the romanticism of keeping said defensive end in his home state. Oregon’s Kayvon Thibodeaux is the real deal.  At 6’5″, 250 pounds, he’s a juggernaut of athleticism, explosion, and football intelligence. In addition to his exceptional pass-rush ability, Thibodeaux is an underrated run defender. Don’t allow statistics to mask his standing as the best edge player in the class.  27. Detroit Lions (from Rams): WR Drake London:  Are the Detroit Lions set at quarterback? No. Do they need to entertain the position in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft? Also, no. But do they need to add offensive playmakers? Absolutely.  In USC wide receiver Drake London, the Lions land one of my favorite players in the entire class. Fox sports McIntyre (2. Detroit Lions: DE Aidan Hutchinson:  Hutchinson's disappointing showing against Georgia in the playoff won’t hurt his draft stock, as the Heisman Trophy runner-up stays home to play for the Lions. Dan Campbell has a nice collection of pass rushers in Julian Okwara, Charles Harris and Trey Flowers (assuming the Lions don’t get out of his contract).  27. Detroit Lions (via Los Angeles Rams): Malik Willis:  The Lions can take a flier on a QB late in the first round if they grade him out as a prospect who can sit for a year and then step in for Jared Goff. Willis is a massive boom-bust prospect with tantalizing upside. But he’s extremely raw and is largely untested against top-flight competition.) USA Today Middlehurst-Schwartz (2. Lions – Aidan Hutchinson, DE, Michigan:  Scoring three wins in the final six weeks precluded Detroit from earning the No. 1 pick for the first time since 2009, but Lions fans need not worry about having to settle for a consolation prize. Thibodeaux and Hutchinson might be ranked as No. 1 and 1a by some, and Hutchinson presents a solid case that he's not necessarily the latter. After returning for his senior season, the 6-6, 265-pound defensive end overwhelmed opponents from start to finish en route to 14 sacks, a College Football Playoff berth and recognition as Heisman Trophy runner-up. Whether it's the local product or Thibodeaux who lands here, the Lions can't lose in scooping up a top-tier edge rusher who will change the complexion of their front.  26. Lions (from Rams) – Chris Olave, WR, Ohio State:  Jared Goff ended the season on an upswing, thanks in large part to Amon-Ra St. Brown's late breakout. Maybe it would be a shrewd move, then, to invest in another polished and prolific target who can upgrade an otherwise flimsy receiving corps. Ridder could end up being the steal of the draft. PFF Treash (2. DETROIT LIONS: EDGE KAYVON THIBODEAUX, OREGON:  Thibodeaux is the Michelangelo's David of pass-rushers. The 6-foot-5, 258-pound edge defender has every trait NFL teams want on the edge at the next level, and he has grown immensely from a production standpoint after earning an 80.9 pass-rush grade as an underclassman. Thibodeaux has started to show genuine refinement within his rushes and no longer relies on tools alone. As a result, he earned a 91.5 pass-rush grade in 2021 despite missing a couple of games early in the season due to injury. Opposing teams even started to scheme away from Thibodeaux to take him out of the game entirely — just as teams did with Chase Young a couple of years ago.  30. DETROIT LIONS: QB Malik Willis:  From a tools perspective, Willis is in a class of his own. He is the most dangerous quarterback in college football from an athleticism perspective, and he possesses outstanding arm strength. He has recorded an 11% big-time throw rate and 94.5 rushing grade this season, both of which lead all FBS quarterbacks by a substantial margin.  At the same time, though, Willis is still fairly raw and going to be a bit of a project at the NFL level. This risky pick bodes well for a team like Detroit, who will have to stick with Jared Goff for the short term.) PFN Miller (2. Detroit Lions: Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon:  Do I think Hutchinson will be drafted before Kayvon Thibodeaux come April? No. However, one of them is playing in the College Football Playoff and will almost certainly be put on a pedestal for about 30 days if he has a good outing in what I expect to be a one-and-done for the Wolverines against Georgia. Then, the circle will be complete, and every mock draft will once again have Thibodeaux at the top.  Thibodeaux is long, athletic, flexible, and explosive. He’s not as technically proficient as some of the freaks we’ve seen in recent drafts, but that doesn’t mean he’s unrefined, either. Lions head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes started building in the trenches last season with Penei Sewell, Levi Onwuzurike, and Alim McNeill.  With the Okwara brothers (when Romeo can return from his Achilles injury) around alongside the two defensive tackles, the Lions are rather quickly building a formidable defensive line.  28. Detroit Lions: QB Sam Howell:  Before the season, many said that Sam Howell reminded them of Baker Mayfield. I thought they were nuts! And then Mayfield went out to have the season he’s having and it made a bit more sense to me. Except it still doesn’t. There was a bit of a role reversal.  Yes, Howell’s numbers didn’t look nearly as good in his junior season, but he’d lost so many NFL players from that UNC team that it was always going to be impossible to replicate his production. He was forced to grow and carry a team, and although he’s still not perfect, that growth seemed to be on display.  Howell has the arm talent you look for in a franchise QB, and he has the athletic mold you want. He also turned into a more high-volume runner in 2021, and he was physical along the way, something I’m sure Dan Campbell will respect.  34. WR David Bell.  65. LB Henry To’o To’o.  98. PFN Platte (1. Detroit Lions: Kayvon Thibodeaux, EDGE, Oregon:  It’s become somewhat sexy for Aidan Hutchinson to supplant Kayvon Thibodeaux as the No. 1 pick lately. For me, it comes down to disruption. While Hutchinson is certainly disruptive, he is playing across from another possible first-round pick in David Ojabo, forcing every team he faces to account for both.  Thibodeaux, on the other hand, has no such benefit and faces slide protection or double-teams virtually every snap he’s on the field. Other times, opponents simply run away from him or throw the ball as fast as possible to avoid him. The Lions have a weak roster, and they need anyone who can wreak havoc while they rebuild their roster.  23.  Detroit Lions: Drake London, WR, USC:  If the Detroit Lions wanted to show faith in Jared Goff, they’d go out and find a receiver who can highlight the areas that he wins as a passer. Drake London does not fit the mold. Yet, he does help set the team up extremely well for 2023 and beyond.  At 6’5″ and 210 pounds, London would join his former teammate, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and would play largely the same role in Detroit as he did at USC once the Lions land a quarterback who can stretch the field vertically. While London has plenty of speed and athletic traits, he truly thrives in situations where he can go up and get the ball. While that doesn’t play to Goff’s strengths, London is a good enough prospect to still find targets while the Lions continue to search for a signal-caller.  33.
