Stafford was a faithful servant in Detroit. His “failure” to lead Detroit to the promised land was less about his ability and more about the surrounding parts. These NFL teams are best fits for former Gators running back Dameon Pierce (Lions - All indications are the Lions are very pleased with their two primary running backs, D’Andre Swift and Jamaal Williams, but their depth chart falls off a cliff after them. Godwin Igwebuike, Jermar Jefferson and Craig “Netflix” Reynolds all had run as the Lions’ backups, but none are suited to fill the shoes of a primary contributor. It was rough at times when the Lions had to depend on them for anything more while Williams was unable to play. In addition to being a stabilizing influence on the Lions’ rushing attack, Pierce could be an interesting chess piece for Dan Campbell’s hyper-aggressive offense. The Lions attempted more fourth-down conversions than any other team in 2021. Unfortunately, they were only 20th in conversion rate, gaining the first down on 51.2% of those attempts. What makes this fit absolutely perfect, though, is the Lions’ coaching staff had its hands on Pierce throughout the Senior Bowl week. They had front-row seats while he proved he could be better than the limited role Dan Mullen offered him. Lions running backs coach Deuce Staley is on the record as favoring players who excel at pass blocking, and he was the acting head coach while Pierce put up highlights like this evisceration of Appalachian State linebacker D’Marco Jackson. With Jared Goff — a pure pocket passer — as the starting quarterback, the Lions could profit from having Pierce blowing up linebackers for them on passing downs.
