Who should be the NFL MVP this season? We asked 14 experts for their ballots (4. Jared Goff, QB, Detroit Lions - Current odds: +2200.  2024 stats: 3,759 passing yards, 30 TDs, 10 INTs, 65.6 QBR (60 rushing yards).  Goff was once considered to be a throw-in for the trade that sent Matthew Stafford to the Rams. Now, he's at the center of one of the most exciting offenses in the NFL. He ranks second in passing yards, fourth in touchdown passes and fifth in completions (314) and first-down passes (191). Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson has maximized Goff's ability by featuring more play-action passing. The results are clear: He has thrown for 1,396 yards on under-center play-action passes this season, 255 more than the next closest quarterback, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.  Although Goff lost the head-to-head battle with Allen this past weekend, it's hard to overlook 494 passing yards, five passing touchdowns and no interceptions. Goff has an uphill battle, but he'll have a chance to leapfrog the others in this race if he has a strong performance against the Packers in the season finale.):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/43040943/nfl-mvp-watch-2024-top-candidates-odds-stats-december-josh-allen-lamar-jackson-saquon-barkley

NFL Week 16 Preview: Schedule, storylines and matchups to watch (Detroit Lions (-7) vs. Chicago Bears - Storyline: Lions Looking to Rebound from Week 15 Loss.  The Lions’ 11-game win streak ended with a thrilling loss to the Bills in Week 15, a game that showcased two powerhouse offenses. Despite racking up over 500 yards, Detroit’s slow start proved costly. If the Lions — and Bills — take care of business, a rematch could loom in the playoffs.  This week, Detroit looks to complete a season sweep of the Bears, who have now lost eight straight games. The coaching change from Matt Eberflus to Thomas Brown hasn’t produced the results the franchise hoped for, with a 68-25 point differential since the switch.  Matchup to Watch: Lions CB Kindle Vildor vs. Bears WR Rome Odunze.  The loss of Carlton Davis has tested the Lions' cornerback depth. Vildor, who has struggled this season with a 46.7 PFF coverage grade, will step up. However, he showed improvement against the Bills, earning a 70.0 coverage grade.  Odunze, the Bears' rookie receiver, has yet to find consistency but has excelled in contested situations. His 76.9% contested catch rate leads the NFL among receivers with 10 or more contested targets.  Additional News:  Lions RB David Montgomery (torn MCL) is hoping for a return this season.  Lions CB Carlton Davis (broken jaw) and DI Alim McNeill (torn ACL) were placed on IR.  Lions ED Aidan Hutchinson (broken leg) is aiming for a Super Bowl return.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-week-16-preview-schedule-storylines-and-matchups-to-watch

PFF Grades and Data: Everything you need to know for every NFL Week 16 game (Detroit Lions @ Chicago Bears - Injuries appear to have caught up to the Lions' coverage unit over the past two weeks. Through Week 13, Detroit allowed a league-low 74.9 passer rating in coverage. However, in the last two games, that number has jumped to 118.4, the third-worst mark over that span.  Darnell Wright has shown significant improvement in his second season. His 4.3% pressure rate allowed ranks 13th-lowest among 38 right tackles with at least 150 pass-blocking snaps. This is a major step forward compared to his rookie year when his 8.7% pressure rate ranked 33rd out of 42 right tackles meeting the same snap minimum.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-pff-grades-and-data-everything-you-need-to-know-for-every-nfl-week-16-game

QB Rankings:

NFL QB Index, Week 16: Baker Mayfield hits new high; Patrick Mahomes in danger of exiting top 10 (4. Jared Goff - 2024 stats: 14 games | 71.4 pct | 3,759 pass yds | 8.5 ypa | 30 pass TD | 10 INT | 60 rush yds | 0 rush TD | 6 fumbles.  Oh, look, Joe Burrow finally isn't the only quarterback putting up gaudy numbers that are wasted by his team. Goff was largely excellent in Week 15, tossing five touchdown passes and nearly breaking 500 yards through the air, while the Lions leaned significantly on him to keep them afloat. He threw a 66-yard touchdown pass to Amon-Ra St. Brown, found Tim Patrick for a 12-yard score, hit eligible tackle Dan Skipper (who slipped out of pass protection) for a short touchdown pass and would have had another long completion, had Jameson Williams held on to the ball. Goff was good enough to win; in fact, he became the first quarterback to throw for 400-plus yards, five-plus passing touchdowns and zero interceptions and lose since 1950.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-qb-index-week-16-2024-nfl-season
