Why your team won, lost: NFL Week 18 (Detroit Lions 31, Minnesota Vikings 9.  Why the Lions won: It was the Jahmyr Gibbs show against the Vikings, as the running back scored four total touchdowns – three on the ground and one in the air. Gibbs cruised to 139 rushing yards and three scores on the ground averaging 6.0 yards per attempt while adding five catches for 31 yards and a touchdown as a receiver. He forced six total tackles on the night and earned an 82.3 grade. He got the Lions going in their biggest game of the season.  Why the Vikings lost: The Vikings' conversion rate was historically low against the Lions. Sam Darnold struggled mightily in the passing game, completing just 18 of 41 pass attempts, and the Vikings finished 3-of-13 on third down, zero of three on fourth down, and zero of four in the red zone. There’s no other way to spin it, a horrid performance in the red zone and in critical spots.):  https://www.pff.com/news/why-your-team-won-lost-nfl-week-18

PFF's All-Rookie Team: Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels headlines the offense, Rams' Jared Verse shines on defense (SPECIAL TEAMER - Sione Vaki, Detroit Lions:  Vaki would finish fourth overall of special teamers to play at least 200 snaps, comfortably best of all rookies.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-pff-all-rookie-team-washington-commanders-qb-jayden-daniels-headlines-the-offense-rams-jared-verse-shines-on-defense

Super Bowl LIX: Ranking the five matchups I'd most like to see at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans (1. Detroit Lions Vs. Kansas City Chiefs:  We were treated to highly entertaining barnburners the last two times the No. 1 seeds met in the Super Bowl -- Chiefs versus Eagles in Super Bowl LVII and Eagles versus Patriots in Super Bowl LII. Given the makeup of the Lions and Chiefs, a matchup in Super Bowl LIX would be just as good.  The Lions' climb to the upper echelon started in the 2023 opener in Kansas City, a game the Chiefs might have flipped in their favor if Kadarius Toney could have held onto the pigskin. That victory jumpstarted Detroit's run, which included going 27-7 over the past two regular seasons. The dynastic back-to-back Super Bowl champs facing a franchise finally punching its first ticket to the big game would be ripe with storylines and excellent matchups.  Patrick Mahomes and the offense started to find their way near the end of the season with the return of Hollywood Brown and the improved play of rookie Xavier Worthy. They'd be pitted against a snakebit but physical Aaron Glenn defense that never backs down. Even in a challenging year for Travis Kelce, you could bet your bottom dollar that he'd make a massive play or two in a big spot. A potential return of Aidan Hutchinson for the Super Bowl would add intrigue.  Then you have the battle of mad scientists in Lions OC Ben Johnson and Chiefs DC Steve Spagnuolo. Give those men two weeks to prepare for each other, and we could have fireworks both ways. Chris Jones would be lining up across from one of the best offensive lines in football. Amon-Ra St. Brown would be battling against Trent McDuffie. Touchdown leader Jahmyr Gibbs would face a top-10 run defense. This game is oozing with greatness.  Top it off with a week of quips and quotes from Andy Reid and Dan Campbell, and you have a matchup made in football heaven.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/super-bowl-lix-ranking-the-five-matchups-i-d-most-like-to-see-at-caesars-superdome-in-new-orleans

Ranking NFL teams most likely to win first SB in 2025 (1. Lions  - Super Bowl appearances: Zero.  The NFL has been playing Super Bowls since 1966 and the Lions have never been to one, but if that drought is going to end, this seems like the year where it could happen. For one, they've already made history this year by earning the top seed in the NFC for the first time in franchise history. With the bye into the divisional round, that means the Lions have to win just two games to get to the Super Bowl. The Lions have been the best team in the NFC all year and if they continue to play at a high level, there's no reason they can't take home their first Lombardi Trophy. If the Lions do make it to New Orleans, the French Quarter better be ready, because Lions fans will be letting out 58 years of pent up frustration and that could involve a lot of drinks.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2025-nfl-playoffs-ranking-the-five-teams-most-likely-to-win-their-first-super-bowl-this-postseason/

Ranking every first-round rookie from 2024 NFL Draft (21. Terrion Arnold, CB, Lions:  Arnold struggled for much of his rookie season. I respect how hard he battled, and that persistence did lead to some splash plays for Detroit's injury-plagued defense. He had 10 pass breakups and 60 tackles but allowed four touchdowns in his coverage area.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/ranking-every-first-round-rookie-from-the-2024-nfl-draft-after-their-debut-season-in-the-league/

QB Rankings:

2024 NFL QB Rankings: Insights Behind Lamar Jackson, Russell Wilson, Josh Allen, and Others (2. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions - Grade: A, Score: 93.2.  The Detroit Lions did not need much from Jared Goff in Week 18, as they simply overwhelmed the Minnesota Vikings. Goff’s performance in Week 18 ultimately graded as a C+, giving him 11 above-average games out of 17 this season.  Week 18 was an atypical week for Goff. He had just a 0.09 EPA/DB overall (14th) and a 0.01 EPA/DB from a clean pocket (23rd). Those are in contrast to his 0.27 overall EPA/DB (second) and 0.50 EPA/DB from a clean pocket (second). Goff ranked sixth in Week 18 when pressured (0.23 EPA/DB), which is an area he has struggled at times this season (-0.21 EPA/DB; 13th).  Goff did deliver in his usual fashion in Week 18 on third downs and in clutch situations. He converted an impressive 57.1% of third-down opportunities this week, further improving his season-long numbers, which see him rank fourth at 45%. He also finished the year with an 8.2 nYPA (second), a 72.4% completion rate (second), and a 3.1 TD/INT rate (eighth).  Goff’s hunt for an MVP stalled heavily after his five-interception performance in Houston and then when he was outplayed by Allen in Week 15. Nevertheless, his consistency has been remarkable, with no games graded below a C-.  On top of that, Goff has produced the best (Week 11 vs. Jacksonville) and the third-best (Week 4 vs. Seattle) single-game performances of the season.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-qb-rankings-2024/

QB Stock Market: Ranking all 32 starters after the 2024 regular season (4. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions (16):  Yes, he has the best offensive coordinator in football. But Goff is in the conversation of the best quarterbacks in the NFL.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/qb-stock-market-ranking-all-32-starters-after-2024-regular-season
