Secondary: This time last year, Detroit’s secondary was built around CB Terrion Arnold and safeties Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph. Since then, Arnold was released following his arrest on eight felony charges, Branch tore his Achilles and Joseph’s future has turned into a question mark as he deals with a lingering knee ailment. At cornerback the Lions are relying on D.J. Reed, Rock Ya-Sin and Ennis Rakestraw Jr., along with Roger McCreary and fifth-round pick Keith Abney II, which is not exactly the strongest crew. If Branch and/or Joseph miss significant time, Detroit will need bigger contributions from Christian Izien, Avonte Maddox, Thomas Harper and/or free-agent addition Chuck Clark. Jameson Williams, Detroit Lions - 2025 stats: 65 receptions, 1,117 yards, 7 touchdowns.  Lions’ WR1: Amon-Ra St. Brown.  One of the most explosive receivers in the league, Jameson Williams averaged 17.2 yards per catch in 2025 and emerged as a premier deep threat. SI’s 2026 NFL Preseason QB Rankings: Reigning MVP Matthew Stafford Is No. 3 (12. Jared Goff, Detroit Lions - Since joining the Lions prior to the 2022 season, Goff has posted his second-best EPA (+79.1) and EPA per dropback (+0.13). However, both numbers dipped from ’24, his final year with offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, and Detroit’s season was disappointing, finishing 9–8 and missing the postseason.   Still, Goff is one of the league’s best quarterbacks. He’s thrown for at least 4,500 yards and 30 touchdowns in each of the past three years, the only man who can make that claim. Breakout watch: These 9 players could emerge as stars in 2026 (WR Isaac TeSlaa, Detroit Lions:  TeSlaa was a star for the Lions in the preseason last year, taking advantage of his big frame to haul in 10 passes for 146 yards and three touchdowns – all of which were tightly contested. In his regular season debut, TeSlaa caught a one-handed, 13-yard touchdown pass for his lone catch of the game.  But TeSlaa was not able to parlay his early success into a sustained volume output for the remainder of the season. He finished his rookie campaign with 16 catches for 239 yards. However, he also caught six touchdown passes – third-most on the team – on 27 targets as quarterback Jared Goff and the Lions' offense made TeSlaa a focal point of their red-zone efforts.  The second-year player will still need to compete with Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams for targets in 2026, but Kalif Raymond departed in free agency, moving TeSlaa up the depth chart. In addition, early reports from camp are that TeSlaa has made a notable leap in athleticism and strength. Top 10 NFL Players Under 25 on the PFN Top 100: Drake Maye, Jaxon Smith-Njigba Lead the Way (4. Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Detroit Lions (24) - Ranking in PFN’s NFL Top 100: 18.  The highest-ranked running back in PFN’s Top 100 this year, Jahmyr Gibbs has been an incredible, well-rounded offensive weapon. He’s combined for 2,635 rushing yards and 29 rushing touchdowns in that time, averaging 5.3 yards per carry. He’s also been a high-volume receiving back, as his 1,133 receiving yards since 2024 are the second-most by a running back. Gibbs is one of just two running backs to have finished as a top-four back by PFN RB Impact Scoring in consecutive seasons, the other being the aforementioned Robinson.
