QBs Rosen, Allen put on show at Combine (In a testament to this year’s rare depth at the position, there were several other noteworthy performances from the so-called second-tier of quarterbacks.  Western Kentucky’s Mike White and Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta showed the compact throwing motions and accuracy that could justify either or both of them becoming Day Two values.  White was the more impressive of the two on deep balls, but Lauletta, the reigning Senior Bowl MVP, showed off some skills that might validate some opinions that he could be a steal, looking directly ahead when dropping back, moving imaginary safeties with his eyes before turning late to fire precise passes to the short and intermediate levels.  Lauletta’s lack of an elite arm did show up on the longer passes, however, as he dropped his arm low in an elongated wind-up to generate extra RPMs, a flaw that not only will leave the football vulnerable to rushers around him in a game, it will tip off savvy NFL defenders where the ball is likely heading before he releases it.) Senior Bowl Stock Report Watch (8.  Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond:  When it came to the quarterback position, the vast majority of attention was focused on the duel between potential Top 10 overall picks Josh Allen and Baker Mayfield.  For most Lauletta was an afterthought, at best.  Lauletta quietly had a solid, albeit unspectacular, week of practices then threw for three touchdowns in the game en route to being named Most Outstanding Player.  Lauletta is still a Day 3 type but is quite clearly leaving Mobile with more fans around the league than he came in with.) 2018 Senior Bowl Game Report (All of the attention was on Josh Allen of Wyoming and Baker Mayfield of Oklahoma this week, but it was a quarterback out of Richmond, a FCS program, who was named Most Outstanding player of the 2018 Senior Bowl.  Everyone, meet, Kyle Lauletta.  Even die-hard draftniks barely knew who Lauletta was before he got added to the Senior Bowl roster.  There were little or no expectations for Lauletta when he arrived in Mobile and he was a relative afterthought compared to the big showdown between Allen and Mayfield.  Lauletta has made a name for himself now though and most teams around the league will likely be taking another look at the sleeper signal caller.  Lauletta isn’t going to wow anyone with his sheer physical tools, but he has decent size at 6-2 5/8 and 217 pounds and while his arm is fringy it’s adequate.  Intangibles might be the most crucial ingredient for a pro quarterback and Lauletta is going to earn high marks in that category.  For example, he majored in leadership studies.  Lauletta won’t be a perfect fit for everyone and you will probably hear the term “system quarterback” mentioned in the coming months.  There may be a degree of truth to that, but beauty truly is in the eye of the beholder when it comes to quarterbacks in the NFL Draft .  I wouldn’t be at all surprised if some team bought into Lauletta in Mobile, AL this week.  It’s important not to get too carried away because Lauletta profiles as a backup in the NFL.) 2018 Reese's Senior Bowl recap: South team wins in blowout fashion (Richmond quarterback Kyle Lauletta finished up the week of practice with an impressive showing of red zone accuracy. During the game, he showed that was not an exception, consistently making accurate red zone throws including one play in which he was forced to leave the pocket and quickly re-set his feet. He is the gamer.  After a week of practice in which other quarterbacks stole the show, Saturday’s Senior Bowl featured one who did not — Richmond’s Kyle Lauletta, rated as a late draft prospect by most, including NFLDraftScout.com, which has him ranked 252nd overall, a seventh-rounder.  His play Saturday may change that rating at least a little in the next adjustments because when the lights shone brightly at this year’s event, Lauletta was that gamer. He led all quarterbacks with 198 yards passing and three touchdowns to power the South to a 45-16 victory in the rain at Mobile, Ala.  Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond — Though he won’t be drafted as early as many of the other prospects on this list, no player took better advantage of the big stage than Lauletta, who led all quarterbacks with 198 passing yards and three touchdowns on 8-of-12 passing in the South’s 45-16 win, earning MVP honors. 2018 Senior Bowl Quarterbacks (Kyle Lauletta, QB, Richmond:  Kyle Lauletta was named MVP of the Senior Bowl, but didn't have the best start. He threw behind runnning back Rashaad Penny and then was strip-sacked, but was lucky that a teammate recovered. After that, however, Lauletta sliced and diced the North team's helpless defense.  Lauletta's first great pass was a 74-yard touchdown bomb to LSU receiver D.J. Chark. On the next drive, he hit a tight end down the seam despite throwing from his own end zone. The completion went for 41 yards. Lauletta then avoided two sacks somehow on a play that had the crowd oohing and ahhing. He actually looked like Eli Manning on the Helmet Catch play in Super Bowl XLII, but without the actual helmet catch throw.   At any rate, Lauletta followed all of this up with a beautiful fade pass to Central Florida receiver Tre'Quan Smith for a 42-yard gain. This set up a sequence in the red zone when Lauletta moved in the pocket and fired a touchdown in a small window to his second read.  Lauletta wasn't done. He had nice pocket movement on a play in which he found Chark for a 13-yard completion. He then fired a strike to Oklahoma State receiver Marcell Ateman for his third score. The pass was impressive, as Lauletta fit the ball into a tiny window on a slant.   Lauletta finished 8-of-12 for 198 yards and three touchdowns. The Richmond product has average size (6-2) and arm strength, but he's accurate and smart. He was seen as a mid-round prospect before the Senior Bowl, but it wouldn't surprise me if a team desperate for a quarterback took him in the second round.  2018 NFL Draft Projection: 2nd-4th Round.) Richmond QB Kyle Lauletta has most stomach-turning story among 4 intriguing NFL prospects outside of Power 5 (Kyle Lauletta:  In Lauletta’s first team meeting on Sunday night, he started to feel queasy. He spit into a bottle to avoid vomiting and then informed a Tampa Bay Buccaneers scout during an interview that night that he may have to bolt for the restroom. He finished the interview, sprinted to the bathroom right afterward and threw up.  He ended up in the emergency room with a stomach virus.  Lauletta eventually recovered enough to impress scouts this week, as he’s expected to go somewhere between the third and fifth round. So what’s it like to wait your entire life for a job interview and then get sick right as it starts?  “I don’t want to make that as an excuse,” Lauletta told Yahoo Sports. “I’m good to go.”  Lauletta’s unique college experience has prepared him for nearly every possible scenario. He played for four different offensive coordinators, finishing his career as the program’s all-time leader in passing yards. He shined his final year, totaling 3,737 yards and 28 touchdown passes.  “I’ve seen every play in the NFL,” he said. “Looking at the playbook from the Texans and just being exposed to some NFL concepts, I’ve seen it all. There’s nothing you can throw at me that I haven’t seen before.”  The other thing that stands out about Lauletta is that he stuck around Richmond for his final season to play for first-year head coach Russ Huesman. While Huesman had run a more quarterback run-based system in his former job at Chattanooga, he adapted it to allow Lauletta to take more deep shots and throw the ball over the middle more.  “It would have been very easy for him to go be a grad transfer somewhere else at a bigger place,” Huesman said. “He stayed because of his teammates and the University of Richmond. That’s a loyal kid right there. Kyle Lauletta, Richmond:  A three-year starter at Richmond, Lauletta was a lightly recruiting high school quarterback who, after playing some as a freshman, earned his starting role as a redshirt-sophomore. Despite four different offensive coordinators during his time in college, Lauletta has proven adaptable to multiple systems and has still shown next-level mental aptitude and processing. As a 6-2 passer, Lauletta has a well-built frame to stand tall and deliver throws with poise and adequate vision.  Lauletta has a quick release and is able to generate maximum velocity from the pocket. While he doesn’t possess elite arm talent, his outstanding footwork has become a staple of his throwing success. Lauletta is one of the more capable passers out of the small schools in terms of mental aptitude and footwork development. He may earn substantial NFL support as a high Day 3 pick.) White’s 2016 season, as well as his mental makeup, has a lot of similarities to Jared Goff’s career at California. 2018 Senior Bowl: What each quarterback prospect needs to prove in Mobile (Kyle Lauletta, Richmond - He can play with the big boys - Lauletta completed 63.5 percent of his passes at 8.8 yards per attempt with 73 touchdowns and 35 interceptions in his Richmond career. He was named the CAA Offensive Player of the Year this past season. There are many reasons he'll be in Mobile. As is the case every year for at least one small school quarterback prospect, Lauletta just needs to show he belongs. Senior Bowl notebook: Inspirational Griffin stands out for South (The most consistent pass protector for either team this week -- for big plays during 11-on-11 scrimmages, as well as during one-on-ones.
Rushing off the right edge out of the two-point stance, Griffin blew past Cappa early in practice to force a wounded-duck throw by the South team's quarterback, which was intercepted by Virginia's Quin Blanding. Senior Bowl notebook: Division II OT Cappa stands his ground (Day One of Senior Bowl practices started with stretching followed by extensive installation as the Houston Texans coaching staff kept the players on the South team in the shallow end of the pool to begin the week.  However, the practice pace picked up quickly with one-on-one drills, allowing several players to shine, including Humboldt State offensive tackle Alex Cappa. Overall, it was an up-and-down practice for the Division II standout, but his positive flashes were impressive, showing off his trademark aggression and finishing mentality that earned him a Senior Bowl invite.  During one-on-one drills, Cappa (6-foot-6, 299 pounds) displayed the edge quickness to mirror rushers to the corner and the aggressive mentality to tie up rushers, breaking the rhythm of his opponent before the defender could do the same to him. What was most impressive about Cappa is that he impressed at left and right tackle and against the best pass-rush talent the South team has to offer.  Lined up at left tackle, he faced off against USC edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu (6-2, 245) and rode him to the corner, diminishing the rusher’s arc speed. At right tackle, Cappa faced off with Texas-San Antonio defensive end Marcus Davenport (6-6, 259) and out-physicaled him at the point of attack, controlling the potential first-round pick.  During team drills, Nwosu exacted some revenge on Cappa, beating him with quickness to his outside shoulder. And UCF linebacker Shaquem Griffin (6-0, 223) was able to do the same, using explosive edge speed that the blocker couldn’t answer.  There is no question that Cappa is still raw in areas, mostly the timing and precision of his punch vs. speed, but he more than held his own on the first day of South practicek, especially when able to get his hands on the defender.) NFL draft: The most versatile players we saw at the Senior Bowl (Austin Corbett, Nevada:  This was a player we didn’t know much about entering the week but came away impressed by more and more. He took snaps at all five offensive line positions during practice, which instantly gets you notice, and Corbett fared well at all of them. We think he’s best inside, but having the ability to play tackle in a pinch is a terrific luxury for NFL teams that might keep only seven blockers active on game day.  Corbett was effective on combo blocks as a guard in drills, he walked back LSU DT Greg Gilmore on one impressive rep, beat Texas DT Poona Ford twice while playing center and then moved to tackle to toss highly touted UTSA pass rusher Marcus Davenport aside.  It was a showcase week for the 6-4, 310-pound Corbett, who went from being a walk-on to becoming a four-year starter at left tackle for the Wolf Pack. Five Lions targets who lost stock at the NFL Scouting Combine (Billy Price, OG/C, Ohio State:  Injuries and medical scares are the worst part of the combine. Billy Price's flared up in the middle of the bench press. He got three reps in and couldn't keep going due to a partial tear of the pectoral that required surgery this week. The good news is he's supposed to recover by training camp. The bad news is it costs him a chance to prove what he can do in the different drills in Indianapolis.  Price started every game at Ohio State, moving from left guard to right to center, and that kind of sample size in a power program and a power conference should eliminate lots of concerns about whether or not he can play. The Price is Right (Over the past 15 years, Ohio State has produced an incredible amount of talented center prospects: LeCharles Bentley (2002), Nick Mangold (2006), Corey Linsley (2014) and Pat Elflein (2017). Not a bad group.  Well, the tradition will continue in the 2018 draft. I recently studied Buckeyes senior Billy Price and he's one of the best center prospects I've seen in the past decade. He has tremendous upper body torque, quick feet and outstanding awareness. Elflein has enjoyed an outstanding rookie campaign with the Vikings, and I think Price is a superior player on college tape. I gave Price the same grade I gave Mangold when he entered the league, and Mangold ended up being a first-round selection.  Notre Dame's Quenton Nelson is clearly the top interior lineman in the country this fall, but I'd put Price right behind him. 2018 NFL Draft Stock - Week 11 (Billy Price, C, Ohio State:  Price proved why he is the top center for the 2018 NFL Draft as he put on clinic versus Michigan State. Early in the first quarter, Price got movement at the point of attack to open a huge hole for running back Mike Weber to take off on a 43-yard touchdown run. Shortly later, Price pushed a defensive tackle back a few yards on the goal line to generate space that was turned into a short touchdown run for the Buckeyes. Price later showed his quickness and athleticism by firing to the second level to hit a block on an inside linebacker to spring Weber for a gain of about 15 yards.  Price was very good in in pass protection, too. Some centers can struggle with one-on-ones and need to be helping a guard, but Price can generally take out a defender on his own. Price has a strong base to anchor against bull rushers with the upper body strength to sustain blocks. He also is agile enough to handle speed on the inside.  Sources have said that they could see Price being a late first-rounder in the 2018 NFL Draft. Maurice Hurst, DT, Michigan: The Lions really need to focus on bolstering their pass rush, and they could use an interior presence to go along with A'Shawn Robinson. Maurice Hurst is a tweener at 6-2, 282. He's a disruptive player, but doesn't have a defined position. 82. Rashaad Penny, RB, SDSU: Ameer Abdullah has been benched, so it's obvious that the Lions will be focusing on finding a new running back this offseason. 113. Draft Tek Mock Draft (20. RB Derrius Guice: Well, look what we have here, Lions' fans! It's been a few weeks since Guice has fallen below the 18th pick in our mocks, but here he is. Not only does this selection make sense, it will create quite the buzz on offense for the Lions, a buzz that's been missing since the Calvin Johnson days. Now, I'm not saying Guice is the same player as the G.O.A.T Calvin Johnson, no sir. But as Lions' fans we can admit that they've missed that big play, that home-run hitter. RB Ameer Abdullah was supposed to be that guy and his tape would prove he's tremendously athletic, agile, and the type of shifty back that makes heads roll. It just hasn't panned out that way and if the Lions want to address the running game that's been plaguing them for years, it's time to settle it right here if Guice is available.  Guice brought electricity to LSU's backfield. Not only did he light up in 2017, his first year as a bona fide starting running back, but also in 2016 when LSU standout Leonard Fournette was hurt. In the 7 games Fournette missed, Guice never dipped below 138 yards rushing or had less than 1 touchdown. That's amazing. 2017 was no different, as Guice amassed 1,153 rushing yards and 11 TDs with a sparkling 5.34 yards per carry. Don't believe me? Just watch for yourselves. If you thought Golden Tate was a shifty and hard-to-tackle ball carrier in open space, Guice is that times 10. I'm high on Guice, but we will just have to see how soon-to-be Head Coach Matt Patricia or Bob Quinn goes about offseason roster moves before the draft. We know Patricia is a defensive guy, but Guice is just that good and Patricia and Quinn might not be able to pass up that electricity.  51. S Marcus Allen: Safety is not the most dire need for the Lions as Glover Quin has most certainly been one of the best safeties, not just for the Lions, but league-wide. Bleacher Report actually compiled a list of 1,000 NFL players and ranked each. Quin came in as a top 5 safety. Not bad, Glover, not bad. Since Quin has his spot locked up, the question now becomes how will Matt Patricia utilize Quandre Diggs? Diggs, since moving to safety, was also stellar in Tavon Wilson's absence for the final four games of the 2017 season. With Miles Killebrew in the mix as well, it seems to be a very-well-rounded defensive backfield, Adding a sure-fire player like Marcus Allen guarantees maintained success at the position as Quin and Wilson aren't getting any younger and we know how Patricia loves do-it-all defensive players.  Since Patricia didn't get his new defensive toy in this mock draft in RD1, Allen makes sense here in the second. As I mentioned, safety doesn't seem to be in dire need for an upgrade, but passing on a player like Marcus Allen or even Armani Watts may be a mistake. Allen can flat-out tackle, he's extremely instinctive, and was a leader for the Nittany Lions in his four years as a starter. In other words, the guy is a playmaker and a spark on defense. Although Allen is not the best in coverage (only had 1 career interception in college), his run support is elite and, as I've mentioned in previous mock drafts, the Lions also need help at linebacker depth. Allen could fit into a "joker" role perfectly and could add another dimension into disguising coverages in Patricia's defense. There are lots of ways the Lions could go with this pick as there are many worthy names, but Allen has the potential to be a staple for the defense that selects him.  82. CB Donte Jackson; 114. Walter Football Charlie's Mock (20. Marcus Davenport, DE: The Lions grab an end to go opposite of Ziggy Ansah, and if Ansah isn't re-signed, defensive end will be a huge need.  Davenport (6-5, 259) possesses an excellent skill set with speed and agility. He has length and athleticism to play on the edge in the NFL, but needs to learn more pass-rushing moves. In 2017, Davenport notched 55 tackles with 17.5 tackles for a loss, 8.5 sacks, four passes batted and three forced fumbles. He totaled 6.5 sacks as a junior after notching four as a sophomore.   Edge defenders with length, quickness, and athleticism are always in demand, so Davenport could go in the first round in a weak year at defensive end. Scouts from multiple teams have told me that Davenport is a good player and impressed them in 2017, but they thought the top 16 is too high for him. They think the back half of Round 1 is possible.  51. Ronald Jones, RB, USC: The Lions could use a feature back to give them a rushing attack. Jones (6-0, 200) ran really well for USC in 2017, showing more decisiveness and displaying more power after gaining weight in the offseason.
