Preseason preview: Jeremiyah Love among Week 1 players to watch (Lions at Bengals - Who's playing? Bengals coach Zac Taylor has indicated his starters will play -- and not just on offense, but both sides of the ball. It's probably going to be an unfair fight because the Lions aren't expected to play their starters at all (expect to see a lot of undrafted quarterback Luke Altmyer), but it should be a nice opportunity to see how much progress the Bengals offensive line and entire defense have made this offseason. There's potential here for this team to be outstanding, and while no judgment should be passed if they're playing backups, at least we'll get an idea of how quickly they've gelled.  Who's not playing? NFL preseason Week 1 storylines: Fernando Mendoza's debut, Packers RB intrigue and Browns QB battle (Lions vs. Bengals:  The Lions' offensive line has been the tip of the spear for the entire franchise since head coach Dan Campbell arrived in Detroit. After Frank Ragnow was forced into an early retirement because of a litany of injuries, Graham Glasgow was tabbed as the next pivot up. After shaky results in 2025, the Lions added (relatively big) free agent Cade Mays from the Panthers to hold the fort down in the middle. Now Mays is slated to miss an extended period of time after injuring his wrist. And Juice Scruggs, acquired in the offseason David Montgomery trade, is also battling an injury in training camp. So now it's Seth McLaughlin as the next behind for Jared Goff to put his hands under with the Lions' first-team offense. Jahmyr Gibbs, Detroit Lions - 2025 PFN RB Impact Score: 86.0.  Jahmyr Gibbs is entering perhaps his biggest year in the NFL yet. With David Montgomery no longer on the Detroit Lions, Gibbs is expected to truly take the lion’s share of the carries in their backfield, no pun intended. That shouldn’t be a problem for him, however, as he’s had over 240 carries in each of the last two seasons and has averaged at least 5.0 yards per carry both times.  Though Gibbs only came in No. 24 among 55 qualified running backs in rushing EPA, he came in fourth with 17.8 receiving EPA gained in 2025. He also came in fifth in scrimmage yards gained, second in rushing touchdowns, and third in yards per touch.
