The Lions looked horrendous on offense in their loss to the Vikings on Sunday. They’ve invested too much into the offensive line for it to be giving up 10 sacks. Matthew Stafford was at fault too for holding the ball too long. Maybe he had to hold it because nobody was getting open. Walterfootball Power Rankings (21.  Detroit Lions (3-5) - Previously: 21. I had the Lions designated as overrated two weeks ago. Here's why: I'm listing the Lions as an overrated team because their defense is horrible. Brock Osweiler looked like a great quarterback against them! Also, I don't know if any of their wins are overly impressive. Yes, they beat the Patriots, but so did the Jaguars in September. New England was sleepwalking through that game, as the team is wont to do early in the year. The Lions defeated the Packers, who had countless missed field goals from Mason Crosby. They then defeated the Dolphins and Osweiler, and that's not all that great. Meanwhile, they were blown out by the Jets and were the only team to fall to the 49ers, albeit with Jimmy Garoppolo under center.   And this was before the Lions traded Golden Tate. They looked miserable against the Vikings, as Matthew Stafford appeared lost without his favorite receiver. It's no wonder he was sacked 10 times.):  http://walterfootball.com/nflpowerrankings.php

ESPN Power Rankings (22. Detroit Lions (3-5):  The Lions are, in many ways, what we thought they would be at the start of the season -- although how they arrived here, at 3-5 and foundering, has been a surprise. The defense, which looked like it would be Detroit's weakness, has actually done well against the pass (not so much against the run). The Lions found a running game, but Matthew Stafford and the passing game have been inconsistent. MLive's Week 10 NFL power rankings: The Lions are a bad football team (23. Detroit Lions (down 3):  I didn't like the Golden Tate trade because of the way it ripped apart the foundation of a team built around the pass that had just found a running game and needed to find some better defense to compete for the division. I feared the same message would get to the players, and they certainly played without fire or preparation against the Vikings. Two straight losses in which Detroit looked worse in every facet than the opponent has this team looking like it record says it is right now. It's a bad team at the moment, and perhaps a new special teams coach and some extra practice time to build a new passing game help lift it back up to something better than that. But it still looks like a team that has to overcome a defense that can't consistently stop the run or the pass, and it's hard to do that without Tate. NFL.com Power Rankings (23. Lions:  While moving on from Golden Tate might not signify tanking, one could regard the loss in Minnesota as unfavorable circumstantial evidence. The Lions were flat-out, well, flat at the Great Bird-Killer on Sunday. The offense was purely offensive, totaling 209 yards and all of nine points against a Vikings unit that hasn't played anywhere near the level it did last year. Kudos to Matt Patricia and staff for trying to run the football more. Of course, now we know why they'd previously been avoiding that tactic like a kale burger: They couldn't run a lick against Minnesota.
