DraftTek Mock Draft (8. LB Devin White.: When the Lions met with Devin White back in early March as part of the formal interviewing process for each team, the Lions were White's first interview. "They put me on the board as soon as I got there to see where my head was at", said White. Given Patricia and Quinn's Patriot upbringing, it is clear they value a player's football intelligence, making the right plays, diagnosing any and all scenarios that you may face on the field and truly understanding "The Why" of the play call. White continued, "So I got up there and I did it, 'cause I'm the Mike linebacker, that's the easiest thing to do, to draw the defense 'cause I know what everybody is doing." This is what makes a player like White so incredibly valuable; his football IQ mixed with his well-documented freak physical abilities and whether his confidence is all for show, being able to say that knowing what the rest of his teammates are doing on any given play is the easiest thing to do is a tell-tale sign that White just "gets it". Obviously, the Lions want to do their due dilligence with every prospect that they interview, and as we have reiterated in the last few weeks, they've set themselves up roster-wise for what ever falls to them. In fact, of the 57 prospects the Lions have visited, it's been spread fairly evenly with the most being from CB (10 visits), TE (8 visits), WR (8 visits), and DE (7 visits). The lowest groups have been OT, RB, and S with 2 visits each. Rest assured, whatever happens prior to #8 the Lions have done their due dilligence with positions of need. If White falls to Detroit here, this is the player I anticipate them taking. If he gets taken prior to the Lions' pick, it'll hurt, but know Detroit has multiple other needs that could make an immediate impact. 43. LB D'Andre Baker: According to Pro Football Focus, DeAndre Baker graded out 2nd with a 93.5 rating for cornerbacks with three years of college experience, edged out by Washington Huskies' Byron Murphy's 94. Graded as their #16-rated prospect in the 2019 NFL Draft, Baker seems to be falling in our mocks. The Georgia corner didn't allow a single touchdown in 2018 and only allowed one in his entire collegeiate career (over 1,000 snaps). That's stingy. Facing NFL-ready receivers from the SEC, Baker makes this an even more impressive achievement. Some may argue the best way to combat the pass is a good pass rush, but in today's pass-happy NFL, depth in the secondary should be a priority for most teams. DeAndre Baker, here, in the second round, could provide the best "bang" for the Lions' buck. Walter football 2019 NFL Mock Draft - Charlie Campbell (8. LB Devin White: The Lions could use more help at linebacker with a difference-maker in the middle of their defense. White could form a dynamite tandem with Jarrad Davis. White is a big inside linebacker who possesses excellent instincts. The 6-foot, 237-pounder has good athleticism with the ability to cover in the passing game while also being a terrific run defender. White notched 123 tackles with 12 for a loss, six passes broken up, three sacks and three forced fumbles in 2018. In 2017, he totaled 133 tackles, 14 tackles for a loss, 4.5 sacks, three passes broken up and one interception. That season was a breakout campaign for the sophomore, and if he could have entered the 2018 NFL Draft, he would have graded out similarly to Virginia Tech's Tremaine Edmunds or Georgia's Roquan Smith. White is a pure football player and could be one of the safer picks in the 2019 NFL Draft. 43. WR Marquise Brown: The Lions could use more big-play threats for their offense. Brown notched 75 receptions for 1,318 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2018. As a sophomore, he averaged 19.2 yards per reception for 1,095 yards on 57 catches with seven touchdowns. Brown is a fast wideout who is a threat to score anytime he catches a pass. The 5-foot-9, 166-pounder has a thin frame and needs to get stronger for the NFL. If he can maintain his speed while adding weight, he could be a dynamic wide receiver. 88. TE Caleb Wilson: The Lions moved on from Eric Ebron, and he is breaking out with the Colts while Detroit has missed a receiving threat at tight end. Here's a mismatch weapon. Wilson totaled 60 catches for 965 yards and four touchdowns in 2018. The 6-foot-4, 235-pounder was phenomenal in 2017 as the most reliable receiving threat for Josh Rosen. Prior to a season-ending foot injury, Wilson had 38 receptions for 490 yards and one touchdown. He was instrumental in the legendary comeback over Texas A&M, hauling in 15 passes for 208 yards in that game. As a freshman in 2016, he had 16 catches for 220 yards. The other possibility would be T.J. Hockenson of Iowa since Detroit has been trying to upgrade at tight end for a while now, even reportedly attempting to trade for Rob Gronkowski last offseason. In the end positional value wins out and they opt to add another impact presence to the defensive line. Sweat instantly passes the eyeball test with a large projectable frame and long arms. An explosive athlete, Sweat has the ability to apply pressure off the edge and does a better job against the run that one might anticipate. In some ways Sweat is a ball of clay waiting to be molded, with the potential to thrive at multiple positions and in a variety of schemes. Sweat has crushed the pre-draft process, starring at the Senior Bowl then running an absolutely absurd 4.41 forty at 260 pounds at the Scouting Combine. Sweat isn’t just a workout warrior either, racking up 29.5 tackles for a loss and 22.0 sacks the past two seasons. The Lions desperately need pass rushers, after pressuring opposing quarterbacks on just 29 percent of their dropbacks last year. That was 31st in the league. But they could also take the No. 1 linebacker off the board, or the No. 1 offensive tackle, or the No. 1 receiver, or -- God forbid -- the No. 1 tight end. With so many sensible options, let's consult the scouting report on Bob Quinn. He likes high-floor players at positions of need, and who hail from power schools. And nobody still on the board checks more of those boxes than Ferrell. He's a polished pass rusher who racked up 11.5 sacks and 20 tackles for loss last year. He finished with 27 sacks and 50.5 tackles for loss for his career, plus won two national championships. A big-time talent with big-time production for a big-time winner? Ferrell is exactly the sort of prospect Bob Quinn goes for.
