Mock Draft Round Up #4

Walterfootball Charlie (10. Yetur Gross-Matos, DE/3-4OLB, Penn State:  The Lions could use an edge rusher to go across from Trey Flowers, and this would be a good fit.  In 2019, Gross-Matos has 26 tackles with 5.5 sacks. He enjoyed a breakout sophomore season in 2018, recording 54 tackles for a loss, 20 for a loss, eight sacks and two forced fumbles.  The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder has a lot of upside to improve as he gains more experience. He has the strength and physicality with the quickness to get upfield. Gross-Matos is a good run defender and emerging pass-rusher.  42.  Cameron Dantzler, CB:  Teez Tabor was a bust for the Lions, and they could use more corner talent to go with Darius Slay.  Dantzler has 31 tackles with two interceptions, seven passes broken up and a fumble recovery this year. Team sources have said that Dantzler was a player who jumped out at them in 2018 despite them not watching him closely as he was yet to be eligible for the NFL draft. The sophomore totaled 43 tackles with nine passes broken up and two interceptions in 2018. Dantzler (6-2, 195) has good size, and the questions will be how well he runs and if he is fluid enough to maintain coverage and prevent separation.) CBS Josh Edwards (10. Lions - OL Tristan Wirfs:  The Lions' season has slowly revealed potential needs at defensive back, running back and elsewhere. However, they opt to aid three positions with the additions of the body mover, Wirfs.) Tony Pauline (11) Detroit Lions: Isaiah Simmons, OLB, Clemson:  Simmons is the off the ball linebacker the Lions need. He brings great athleticism and ball skills, something he showed as a redshirt freshman when he lined up at safety. Simmons will be a top 20 pick if he enters the draft, something I expect he will do if Clemson makes a serious push towards the championship game.):   https://www.profootballnetwork.com/tony-pauline-2020-nfl-mock-draft-v1/

Sporting News (10. Detroit Lions (3-6-1) Javon Kinlaw, DT, South Carolina:  The Lions invested in Trey Flowers at defensive end, but they've struggled against the run this season. For help in that area as well as getting inside pressure on the QB, Kinlaw makes a lot of sense. Damon Harrison is 30, and both Mike Daniels and A'Shawn Robinson are pending free agents. Kinlaw has been a big-time inside disruptor for the Gamecocks with 5.5 sacks in 10 games. At 6-6, 310 pounds, he would be a great fit for Matt Patricia.). Walterfootball (10.  Detroit Lions - LB Kenneth Murray:  Matt Patricia needs to find a centerpiece to his defense, as the Lions have struggled to defend the middle of the field for quite some time. Here's a potential solution.  Kenneth Murray was co-Defensive Freshman of the Year in the Big XII, thriving in coverage for the Sooners. He broke an Oklahoma record for tackles in a game with 28. Murray has excellent instincts and has great speed and athleticism for coverage.  42.  Chubba Hubbard, RB, Oklahoma State:  Kerryon Johnson hasn't been able to stay healthy, so I wonder if the Lions would be willing to spend a second-day pick on a running back to complement him.  Chuba Hubbard is projected as a second-round pick. He has great vision and instincts, and he can catch passes well out of the backfield.) (11-20-19):  https://walterfootball.com/draft2020.php

CBS Chris Trapasso (10. Lions - WR CeeDee Lamb:  This is mostly a value-based selection, as Lamb will give an already solid offense more firepower.) CBS Ryan Wilson (11. Lions - LB Isaiah Simmons:  Simmons is a hybrid LB/S who can line up just about anywhere on the field. Jarrad Davis is having a disappointing season in Detroit and coach Matt Patricia would no doubt love to have Simmons as a chess piece in his defense.) (11-18-19):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/draft/news/2020-nfl-mock-draft-after-tua-tagovailoa-injury-dolphins-now-have-to-rethink-qb-position-other-needs/

Draft Tek (11. Lions - LB Isaiah Simmons:  The whole design of the current Detroit Lions is to pair a great defense with a great rushing game, and let Head Coach Matt Patricia's whiz-bang defensive schemery rule the day like a latter-day Steel Curtain. So, as Year 2 of the Matty Patty era circles the drain at 3-5-1, the cement is a litte mushy on the new foundation. The numbers -- 24th in the league in scoring defense, 26th in rushing defense and 28th in passing yards allowed per game - say the talent is not there. The D Line has underperformed, stud CB Darius Slay seems to be talking his way out of town and LB Jarrad Davis, a first rounder in 2017, has been ranked as the worst off-ball backer in the league. Where to begin?  With franchise QB Matt Stafford on the shelf with broken bones in his back (!), the Lions' draft position just figures to get more prime. A big-time get for Patricia's defense could be linebacker/safety Isaiah Simmons, a marvel of versatility and athleticism at Clemson. If Stafford's injury proves career-threatening and the team keeps climbing the draft order, the talk may turn to QB. Until then, Simmons looks like a fit. 43. QB Jacob Hurts.  75. ILB Jacob Phillips. 107.  OT Liam Eichenberg.  139.  DT McTelvin Agim.  177. DE Trevon Hill.) (11-13-19):   https://www.drafttek.com/2020-NFL-Mock-Draft/2020-NFL-Mock-Draft-Round-1b.asp

SI Mock Draft (11. Detroit Lions: Trevon Diggs, CB, Alabama:  The younger brother of Vikings receiver Stefon Diggs, Trevon has the length, speed, physicality and ball skills to give Detroit an upgrade opposite Darius Slay. This selection would also provide them insurance as Slay is slated to become a free agent after the 2020 season.) (11-13-19):  https://www.si.com/nfl/2019/11/13/nfl-mock-draft-2020-joe-burrow-andrew-thomas-chase-young

PFF Mock Draft (12. DETROIT LIONS – S GRANT DELPIT, LSU:  With each passing missed tackle, we start to worry about Delpit a little more. He now has 13 misses this season on 54 attempts. That’s bad. On the other hand, he’s only allowed 5-of-9 targets for 68 yards all year. That’s good. The latter carries more weight, but the former is a massive concern.)
