Week 10 Previews and Predictions

Score Picks:

Detroit News (All 3 pick the Lions to win by scores of 22-20, 24-17, 23-16.):   https://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2019/11/08/detroit-news-predictions-detroit-lions-chicago-bears/2533173001/

ESPN Week 7 NFL game picks, schedule guide, fantasy football tips and more (Lions (3-4-1) at Bears (3-5):  What to watch for: How will each of the offenses execute? The Bears average 266.8 yards per game (29th in the NFL) and 4.5 per play (30th), but Chicago's defense gives up an average of only 18 points (sixth). Detroit is the exact opposite. The Lions' offense is fifth in yards per game and seventh in yards per play, but they have the league's 31st-ranked defense. Something has to give on Sunday. -- Jeff Dickerson.  Bold prediction: Matthew Stafford puts up his fourth consecutive 300-yard game with three touchdowns, continuing a low-key MVP-level season most won't pay attention to because Detroit's defense continues to struggle. -- Michael Rothstein.  Stat to know: Chicago running back David Montgomery has 223 scrimmage yards and three scrimmage touchdowns on 48 touches over the past two games. He began the season with just 316 scrimmage yards and two scrimmage touchdowns on 82 touches in his first six games.  Rothstein's pick: Lions 28, Bears 17.  Dickerson's pick: Lions 20, Bears 19):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28020375/week-10-nfl-game-picks-schedule-guide-fantasy-football-tips-more

CBS Bryan DeArdo (Detroit (3-4-1) at Chicago (3-5):  Sunday's game in Chicago is between two NFC North teams that are a combined 1-8 in their last nine games. While the Bears' offense has been atrocious lately, they should be able to find their way against Detroit's 27th ranked scoring defense. Chicago's sixth ranked scoring defense should also have success against a Lions offense that is extremely thin at the running back position. That being said, I think the Lions' offense will do just enough to hand the Bears their fifth consecutive defeat.  The pick: Lions 21, Bears 20):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-10-picks-odds-rams-roll-over-steelers-seahawks-hand-49ers-their-first-loss/

CBS Tyler Sullivan (Lions at Bears
Point spread: Lions +2.5:  For my money, the Detroit Lions are the best under-500 team in the NFL. They've certainly struggled, but have been in nearly every single game they've played this year. They were on the brink of beating the Raiders in Oakland last week, but poor execution on the game-winning play squandered the chance at a thrilling win.  With that said, I like taking them with the points this weekend and it strictly comes down to the quarterback play. I trust Matthew Stafford going against the Bears defense in Chicago far more than I trust Mitch Trubisky facing the Lions defense at home. Over his last three games, Stafford has thrown for at least 340 yards and has 10:3 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Trubisky, meanwhile, ranks dead last in passing touchdowns, yards per game and yards per attempt among the 25 quarterbacks that have thrown at least 200 passes this year. Give me the Lions all day.  The pick: Lions 27-17 over Bears):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-10-odds-picks-giants-win-battle-of-new-york-lions-make-things-worse-for-mitch-trubisky/

CBS Jordan Dajani (Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears:  The last two home games were not pleasant for Bears fans. They suffered losses to the Saints and Chargers, as quarterback Mitchell Trubisky continues to struggle. Last week in Philadelphia, the former No. 2 overall pick threw for just 125 yards, and completed just 47.6% of his passes. Trubisky hasn't thrown a touchdown pass in the first half since Sept. 23, when the Bears took down the lowly Redskins on "Monday Night Football." In fact, Trubisky has failed to throw a touchdown in five of seven games. While Detroit's secondary isn't one of the best in the NFL, it's hard to imagine things getting better for Trubisky and the Bears right now. They have lost their last four games and face a feisty Lions team that features Matthew Stafford, who has thrown 10 touchdowns over the last three games. Also, the Lions have fared well on the road this year, and have covered the spread in five of their last seven away games. This Lions team is very hungry to get back into the win column. They suffered heartbreaking losses to the Chiefs and Packers earlier this season, and then failed to get into the end zone on fourth and goal with the game on the line against the Raiders last week.  The pick: Lions 24-13 over Bears):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-10-odds-picks-browns-rebound-vs-bills-ravens-cover-against-bengals/

CBS Jeff Kerr (Detroit Lions (3-4-1) at Chicago Bears (3-5):  One of the trickiest games to pick of the weekend when looking at the numbers, but the Bears are another team that is on the verge of collapsing based on how anemic their offense is. Chicago is 30th in yards per play (4.5) and hasn't put up over 25 points in any game this year except against the Redskins (which are 1-7). The Bears are 31st in the NFL at 5.4 yards per pass and their run game isn't any better averaging 3.6 yards per carry (28th in NFL). The Lions are getting a career year from quarterback Matthew Stafford (2,499 yards, 19 TD, 5 INT), but are averaging just 3.7 yards per carry and have Kerryon Johnson out until at least December. As good as the Bears defense is, they allow 6.2 yards per pass (eighth in the NFL) and the Lions average 8.1 yards per pass (fourth in NFL). The Lions should challenge the Bears secondary throughout the afternoon, especially since Mitchell Trubisky doesn't seem able to get yards against a pass defense that allows 288.4 yards per game (30th in NFL). Pick: Lions 24, Bears 21):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/week-10-nfl-picks-odds-tv-schedule-vikings-upset-cowboys-in-dallas-49ers-remain-unbeaten/

CBS Cody Benjamin (Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears:  Why should anyone be tempted to buy into a Bears turnaround? Khalil Mack? What else is there? Matthew Stafford has been really good this year, and regardless of what pressure he faces Sunday, he's not Mitchell Trubisky. Let's go with the underdogs.  Prediction: Lions 25, Bears 22):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-10-picks-odds-tv-lions-edge-bears-seahawks-stun-49ers-vikings-survive-cowboys/

SN Vinnie Iyer's Pick (Upset of the Week: Detroit Lions over Chicago Bears
(Bears -2 1/2):  Matthew Stafford is playing at a high level, as the Lions have trusted him to throw the ball everywhere with a high volume again. Mitchell Trubisky, on the other hand, keeps turning in poor performances. The Bears will stay in it by feeding rookie running back David Montgomery against a leaky Lions run defense, but eventually, Trubisky will need to let it fly against a shaky pass defense to give his team more points than Stafford produces. It won't necessarily be pretty, but Detroit will push Chicago closer to a first-to-worst slide in the division.  Pick: Lions win 20-17.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/list/week-10-nfl-picks-against-the-spread/iqea25zuq66v1a7k3lskdk39s

SN's Haslop (Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears
(Bears -2 1/2):  This is the Bears' first NFC North game since their 16-6 win over the Vikings in late September. That feels so long ago. Chicago, loser of four straight games, is on the verge of a total collapse, and if Matt Nagy's team isn't already there, a home loss to Detroit might do the trick. As bad as the Bears' offense has been, in theory, it should produce against the NFL's second worst defense in terms of yards allowed. Chicago's bigger problem in this game is the Lions' top-five offense against a suddenly imperfect Bears defense.  Prediction: Lions 26, Bears 24):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/list/week-10-nfl-picks-predictions/bn3getdflak1xxhxjr8zxh17

NFL.com Rosenthal (Detroit Lions 22, Chicago Bears 20:  Lions fans are obsessed with coach Matt Patricia's refusal to blitz, which is like picking on Baker Mayfield for his undershirt. (Sure, that's an issue, but it's one small part of a larger mess.) Luckily, Patricia's sagging defense faces a quarterback this week in Mitchell Trubisky who generates his own pressure by refusing to throw to open receivers. Another battle of weaknesses will occur when the Lions try to run on a suddenly porous Bears rush defense. In a coin-flip game between two desperate teams stuck in the NFL's middle, I'll always lean to the quarterback with five legitimate receiving options who doesn't need to watch the TV copy of games to remember to have fun.):  http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001074190/article/nfl-week-10-game-picks-bolts-nip-raiders-49ers-top-seahawks

NFL RealGM (Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (-2.5): Poor Mitchell Trubisky can’t bear the thought of having (correct) criticism thrown at him and the Bears, so he wants radio and television silence in Halas Hall this week. Wait until you’re 4-for-11 for 19 yards and a pick-6 in the first quarter in front of the home fans, Mitchell.  Lions 33, Bears 24):  https://football.realgm.com/analysis/3210/Football-Meteorology-For-NFL-Week-10

Touchdown Wire (Lions at Bears:  Lions’ keys: QB Matthew Stafford has deep threats in Marvin Jones and Kenny Golladay, who he can use against a Bears secondary that plays far off receivers. Bears’ keys: Run the football with RB David Montgomery and open up the passing game with play-action. He has shown he can be a presence both in the run and the pass game. Who wins? The Bears are the worst team in the NFC North until they prove otherwise, and they won’t turn it around this week. CBS Prisco (Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears (-2.5):  This is essentially an elimination game for these two. The winner stays alive in the division race. Chicago's offense has been dreadful, but the Lions have struggled on defense. I think this is a game where Chicago's defense comes up big. Bears win it as the offense shows some life.  Pick: Bears 24, Lions 20):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/pete-priscos-nfl-week-10-odds-picks-packers-rebound-vs-panthers-cowboys-cover-against-vikings/

PFT (Lions at Bears - MDS’s take: A visit from the Lions’ defense should be the thing to get Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears’ offense back on track.  MDS’s pick: Bears 28, Lions 24.  Florio’s take: The Bears aren’t good, but they aren’t horrible. And with their back against the wall, it’s time to get a win against a Lions team that still hasn’t learned how to.  Florio’s pick: Bears 23, Lions 20.):  https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2019/11/07/pfts-week-10-picks-7/
