The younger Okwara brother (Julian) is hitting his third season. While a pair of rookies (including No. 2 overall pick Aidan Hutchinson) don't quite fit the parameters of this exercise, the Lions are rolling 8-to-9 deep in quality up front. Edholm: Each team's biggest challenge (Detroit Lions (2021 record: 3-13-1) - Biggest challenge: Finding an offensive identity and rhythm, especially in the passing game. Detroit boasts one of the league’s better offensive lines, has tight end T.J. Hockenson back from injury and unearthed a potential gem in WR Amon-Ra St. Brown. But many questions remain, including how things will look under the direction of first-year offensive coordinator Ben Johnson. Jared Goff found his footing with Dan Campbell calling plays late last season and will have two new talented targets in WRs D.J. Every NFL team's top position battle to watch in training camp (Detroit Lions: Linebacker: Lions LB coach Kelvin Sheppard declared both starting positions and all the reserve spots up for grabs at minicamp, and he meant it. Veteran Alex Anzalone is back for another season and figures to play a lot, but he’ll be challenged by hard-hitting free agent signee Chris Board. Derrick Barnes played extensively as a rookie but must improve his work in space to keep that status. Sixth-round rookie Malcolm Rodriguez was a smart tackling machine at Oklahoma State. The Lions brought back one-time first-rounder Jarrad Davis and also have Shaun Dion Hamilton, who was penciled in as a starter before getting hurt last summer. Josh Woods and Anthony Pittman both offer excellent special teams value and factor into the mix as well. Goff, however, lost Olson and some key blockers after 2018, which would explain a major decline in his production. Goff needs everything to be perfect because of his low football IQ and poor pocket awareness.
