Jared Goff and the Lions' prolific offense were stuck in the mud, with six points scored in the first 58 minutes of game action. But Dan Campbell's team never quits. These are NOT the same old Lions. The First Read, Week 16: Who's clinched a playoff berth? Helped/hurt their chances? (Detroit has compiled six wins in its last seven games after a 1-6 start and seems to be growing stronger with each passing week. Quarterback Jared Goff has played at a Pro Bowl level during this stretch. An inept defense has stabilized itself and become fairly reliable. Ranking all nine NFC wild card contenders (2. Lions (7-7):  They are legitimately a winning program right now, with seven wins in eight weeks and the lone loss coming in a one-score game with the Bills. Their top players are probably a touch too young to carry them to glory, and Jared Goff is still more good than great when push comes to shove. But the "D" is vastly improved since Dan Campbell threw a wrench in the staff, Goff's weapons out wide are deep and work every part of the field and their two-headed rushing attack is built to keep them fighting. One thing we learned about each NFL team in Week 15 (Detroit Lions - Romeo Okwara makes his mark on a resurgent defense: Okwara has spent the majority of the year rehabbing from an Achilles injury, as the Lions have been patient in getting the edge rusher back to 100%. Okwara rewarded that patience in a big way Sunday, finishing with three pressures and two sacks in just his second game back from the injury.   Getting Okwara back on an edge-rushing rotation with Aiden Hutchinson and James Houston is massive for the stretch run, especially if Okwara returns to 2020 form. The Lions have been incredibly patient with injured players this year (D.J. NFL Rookie Rewind: Week 15 (Houston.. May be a Problem
james houston vs jets:  The Lions are red hot, winning three in a row after Sunday, and firmly in the mix as far as the playoffs are concerned.   While rookie edge defender Aidan Hutchinson has earned DROY talk, his first-year partner James Houston is breaking records in his own right.   The former Florida Gator turned Jackson State standout, Houston, has been a steal for the Lions since returning from injury.   Unblocked and unaccounted for, Houston will make teams pay for missed assignments, as seen above. While this sack comes off as easy, his quick adjustment to the split motion and nifty feet are just a few traits allowing him to flourish.   Off to the best statistical start a pass rusher has seen in the NFL.
