Week 15 Predictions

SN Bender (Detroit Lions at New York Jets (-1):  The Jets have a winning record, and the Lions need a victory to stay in the NFC playoff hunt. It's a nod to the direction both teams are headed, and Detroit won its last two games before the home-stand. CBS Breech (Detroit (6-7) at N.Y. Jets (7-6):  This isn't a playoff game, but it's going to kind of feel like a playoff game and that's because the loser won't have much hope of making the postseason, especially if that loser is the Lions. That being said, it's probably for the best that this isn't a playoff game, because if that were the case, I'd have to pick both teams to lose. The Jets currently have the NFL's longest drought without a playoff appearance (they haven't been there since 2010) and the Lions currently have the NFL's longest drought without a playoff win (they haven't won a postseason game since 1991).  My problem with picking the Jets is that I don't even know who their quarterback is going to be this week. If Mike White is healthy enough to play, it will definitely be him, but I'm not sure he's going to be healthy enough to play considering his rib cage almost got split in half by a Bills linebacker on Sunday.   So the Jets will either be rolling out an injured Mike White, Joe Flacco or that guy who got benched two weeks ago. Not ideal options.  As if that's not bad enough, this game is giving us one of the hottest teams in football (Detroit) against a Jets team that has completely fallen part over the past four weeks. If the Lions have one weakness, it's stopping the pass, but with their current quarterback situation, the Jets aren't really equipped to take advantage of that.   Also, Dan Campbell has apparently decided that he's going to be throwing the kitchen sink at everyone he faces for the rest of the season. I'm not sure where he's getting all these kitchen sinks, be he's definitely pulling out all the stops like he did against the Vikings on Sunday when he called for a fake punt on fourth-and-7 from HIS OWN 26-YARD LINE.   There's no way I can pick against a coach who's bold enough to call a fake punt in that situation.  The Lions have been an unstoppable force since Nov. 1 with five wins in their past six games and I'm not sure the Jets are going to be able to slow them down.  The pick: Lions 20-17 over Jets):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-15-picks-bills-destroy-dolphins-titans-upset-chargers-jets-and-giants-both-lose/

Big lead (LIONS (PK) over JETS:  The only team that can stop the Detroit Lions is the Detroit Lions. Mike White's health is a question mark. Quinnen Williams' health is a question mark. Jared Goff is looking like the top quarterback for the top offense in football. We don't really understand what's going on but are the only website that predicted any of this so we'll enjoy the victory lap. Detroit at 130-1 to win the Super Bowl honestly feels worth it. CBS Prisco (Detroit Lions (PK) at New York Jets:  This is a big game. Yes, it's a big game. The Lions have won five of six to get into the playoff race. The Jets are coming off a second straight loss with Mike White at quarterback. He has played well, but this game will be about the Lions offense against the Jets defense. SN Piva (Lions at Jets: Prediction - The Jets have a lot of reasons for optimism. Three months ago, not many would have guessed that they would be 7-6 despite losing Breece Hall (knee) and promoting a third-string QB to starter. Defense and the running game have been the main catalysts, with Zonovan Knight impressing in the backfield. Still, we don't hold out much hope for the Jets' ability to hang with Detroit's passing game. What we're seeing out of Ben Johnson's offense has been special, and we honestly believe the Lions have a chance at sneaking into the NFC Playoffs through the backdoor. We'll take Goff in a gritty win this weekend.  PREDICTION: Lions 26, Jets 23. Football Meteorology For NFL Week 15 (Detroit Lions at New York Jets (+1): It’s been since 2017 since the Lions didn’t have a losing record in December. As crazy as it might sound, it’s been two years longer for the Jets. The 2015 edition of New York, the one with Ryan Fitzpatrick at QB and Pro Bowlers Chris Ivory and Brandon Marshall as his triplets, was the last time (until Week 13 this year) the Jets were a .500 team in December.  Man, that Jets team was a fun one. Fitzmagic with those weapons plus nifty Jeremy Kerley and steady Eric Decker on offense. Revis Island and Antonio Cromartie as the CBs. Imagine how different the world is today if Fitzpatrick doesn’t throw three 4th-quarter INTs in a must-win finale against the Bills. Those Jets make the playoffs instead of Pittsburgh. Maybe Todd Bowles earns more coaching credit in the bank and lasts one year longer, preventing the Adam Gase experience. Both running games are inconsistent here, and even though the Lions' pass rush has been friskier in recent weeks, they can't match the Jets in this area. CBS Sullivan (Lions at Jets:  If you had told me over the summer that Lions-Jets would be the game to watch once Week 15 rolls around, I would've laughed in your face but here we are. This head-to-head at MetLife Stadium has MASSIVE playoff implications for both conferences as each of these teams are within striking distance of leaping into the postseason picture.  While Detroit has been the darling of the NFL over the last few weeks (6-0 ATS), don't overlook what New York has put together. The Jets are 7-3 ATS over their last 10 games and have a defense that ranks sixth in DVOA this season. That unit should be able to hold down what has been a white-hot Lions offense. While Detroit's offense has played well, Jared Goff is a much worse quarterback on the road than he is at Ford Field. He's thrown more interceptions (4) than touchdowns (2) on the road this season and his team is averaging just 18.4 points per game on the road (32.1 ppg at home).
