Stacking the NFL's best rookies through 14 weeks: Where do Stroud, LaPorta and Nacua rank? (5. Sam LaPorta, TE, Detroit Lions - Stats: 66 catches, 702 receiving yards, 6 TDs.  Drafted: No. 34 overall.  LaPorta ranks fourth in the NFL among tight ends in receiving yards, trailing Travis Kelce, T.J. Hockenson and George Kittle. He has caught 66 of 93 (71%) targets this season to go with six touchdown receptions.  The rookie out of Iowa is a three-level target in the Lions' offensive system, where he can win man-to-man matchups or use his coverage awareness to find open grass against zone schemes. Plus, LaPorta is a willing blocker in the run game. I see some veteran traits from him. -- Bowen.  Just missed - Brian Branch, S, Detroit Lions.  Branch has been rock solid in the nickel for the Lions' defense. He registered seven tackles and an interception against the Saints in Week 13, and he also had an eight-tackle effort against the Packers on Thanksgiving. He's tied for second on the Lions in interceptions (two) and has played 81.4% of the team's defensive snaps. -- Legwold.  Jahmyr Gibbs, RB, Detroit Lions - Gibbs is second among the league's running backs in averaging 5.4 yards per carry. He has had 14 carries or fewer in every game since David Montgomery's return from injury, but he continues to flash the explosiveness offenses want -- he has four games this season with a run of at least 26 yards, including one in each of the past two games. -- Legwold):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/39090951/10-best-2023-nfl-rookies-ranking-first-years-cj-stroud-jalen-carter

32 NFL observations after Week 14: Aaron Donald ramps up the pressure, DeAndre Hopkins dominates deep and more (DETROIT LIONS - Penei Sewell leads all tackles with a 92.6 PFF run-blocking grade. He is the only tackle to grade above 85.0 for both his zone and man run blocking.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-32-nfl-observations-after-week-14-aaron-donald-ramps-up-the-pressure-deandre-hopkins-dominates-deep-and-more

One thing we learned in Week 14: DeVito stock rising (Detroit Lions:  Defense has fallen off a cliff: The Lions defense allowed 28 points in Sunday's loss to the Bears, continuing a disturbing trend with this unit. Since Week 7, the Lions are in the bottom two in the NFL in points per game allowed (28.7) and turnover differential (-8). They've allowed 355.9 yards per game and 5.9 yards per play in that stretch. From Weeks 1 to 6, the Lions allowed 18.8 points, 285.8 yards per game, and 4.7 yards per play. The defense has pulled a complete 180 since then, which is costing the Lions the top seed in the conference.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/one-thing-we-learned-about-each-nfl-team-in-week-14-tommy-devito-future-giants-qb-49ers-match-1942-feat/

2023 NFL QB Power Rankings: Dak Prescott is on fire (12.  Jared Goff DETROIT LIONS QB:  His sharp point-guarding is a big reason Detroit is playoff-bound despite recent hiccups. But eight turnovers in the last four weeks is precisely the wrong direction. When protected, he's reliable. Otherwise, the off-script limitations show.
