Week 17 Predictions

Biglead (LIONS (+6.5) over COWBOYS:  No one else will have the courage to say this but this is an objectively insane line. Our favorite spread-covering team has gotten its mojo back the past two weeks and knows it can move up in seeding now that they've clinched their division crown in 30 years. At this point you have to expect Jared Goff and this balanced attack to get 28 points if they're in a dome. As long as they avoid losing the turnover battle, the Lions should actually win this game. Easier said than done, obviously, but it's hard to imagine Dan Campbell's team taking a serious beatdown at this point of the season after getting a bit healthier. SN Iyer (Lions at Cowboys (-6, 53.5 o/u):  The Cowboys have dropped two games to lose their short-lived lead in the NFC East. But those were tough AFC opponents on the road. They are a much tougher team overall at home (7-0) than away (3-3). The Lions have played well everywhere this season but they are a little more vulnerable out of Detroit given Jared Goff's history. SN Bender (Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys (-6):  Dallas, however, is 6-1 ATS as a home favorite and they have won those by an average of 24.4 points per game. This line could push toward seven by kickoff, but we’ll take a chance on a playoff-type close game. CBS Breech (Detroit (11-4) at Dallas (10-5):  First, I'd like to start off here by congratulating the Lions on winning their first division title in 30 years. Before this season, the last time they won a division title came in a division that doesn't even exist anymore (NFC Central) and their two biggest fans were Axel Foley and Tim "The Toolman" Taylor, who aren't even real people, so now that I'm thinking about it, maybe that last division title never happened. I don't know what's real anymore.  One thing that is real, though, is the division title that they just won. Now, I'm not a psychologist, but I feel like when you win something for the first time in 30 years, you're bound to have a letdown and I could totally see that happening with the Lions this week. The first problem for the Lions is that this game is in Dallas. When the Cowboys play on the road, they're so bad that they can literally lose to anyone -- this is the same team that lost to the Cardinals on the road back in Week 3 -- but when they play at home, they destroy everyone.  The Cowboys have won 15 straight games at home and that includes going 7-0 so far this year. Not only are they winning, but none of these games are even close. In their seven victories, they've won by an average of 27.7 POINTS PER GAME. I feel like I need to repeat that: Their average margin of victory in home games is nearly FOUR TOUCHDOWNS.  I'm not sure the Cowboys are going to beat the Lions by four touchdowns, but I'm also not going to rule it out. The Lions have not been good at stopping the pass this year -- I mean, Nick Mullens threw for 411 yards on them last week -- and they'll be facing a QB in Dak Prescott who is averaging more than 300 pass yards par game at home this year.   Did I mention that the Cowboys are really good at home? CBS Sullivan (Lions at Cowboys:  I've often talked about moments where teams get caught exhaling and they slip up that week. Well, I think the Lions -- fresh off an emotional victory to win the division for the first time since 1993 -- are in that spot as they head to Dallas. With their playoff ticket punch and seeding relatively secure, the Lions might get caught a bit more sluggish than we're accustomed to seeing them. Meanwhile, Dallas has been an absolute monster at home. The Cowboys are 6-1 ATS and have an average margin of victory of 24.4 points. They also have plenty of motivation coming into this contest, looking to stay in the NFC East race and snap a two-game losing skid. CBS Dajani (Detroit Lions at Dallas Cowboys (-6):  The Cowboys have been a different animal at home this year, as they are a perfect 7-0, and have outscored opponents by 171 points. The Lions have a great offense, but I have major concerns about the defense. Detroit picked off Nick Mullens four times last week in the win over the Minnesota Vikings, but that's because Mullens was throwing bad passes. The Lions were out-gained in total yardage, while the Vikings put up 24 points despite the four turnovers. Mullens even had the Vikings in position to take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but instead threw another pick.
