One takeaway from every NFL team’s initial 2024 depth chart (Detroit Lions: Glimpse of base secondary alignment - The Lions have a good problem: Their secondary has so much talent that it might be hard to properly allocate playing time. Well, Dan Campbell’s first depth chart gave us a glimpse of how Detroit plans to unleash its weapons in the back five by starting first-round rookie Terrion Arnold on the outside, pushing Amik Robertson back inside to nickel and keeping Brian Branch at safety.  Robertson, acquired from the Raiders this offseason, played more than 75% of his 2023 snaps at outside cornerback but was much more evenly split inside and out in 2022. During that season, the 5-foot-8 defender tied for 14th among slot cornerbacks in snaps per target and ranked eighth in snaps per reception (among 27 qualified slots).  The Lions will probably continue to tinker with their secondary alignment throughout the season, certainly deploying Branch all over the field and even experimenting with rookie Ennis Rakestraw Jr., too. But the team’s first starting lineup offers some clues.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-one-takeaway-every-nfl-team-initial-2024-depth-chart

NFL Preseason Week 1: Highest-graded rookies (5. G Duke Clemens, Detroit Lions - Preseason Week 1 Snaps: 30.  PFF Grade: 90.0.  Clemens, an undrafted free agent out of UCLA, played 30 snaps in his preseason debut, all of which came at left guard. He earned a 77.7 PFF pass-blocking grade, with one pressure allowed from 22 pass-blocking snaps, and was even better as a run-blocker, earning an 89.8 grade in that facet.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-preseason-week-1-highest-graded-rookies-2024

Ranking all 32 RB1s heading into 2024 NFL season: Christian McCaffrey, Derrick Henry top pecking order (7. Jahmyr Gibbs - 2023 stats: 15 games | 182 att | 945 rush yds | 5.2 ypc | 10 rush TDs | 52 rec | 316 rec yds | 1 rec TD | 1 fumble lost.  The Lions had one of the best backfields in the league in 2023. Things should be no different this fall with both Gibbs and David Montgomery back in the fold. They should again share the load, but Gibbs gets the nod here because of what he did when the veteran was sidelined last season. As a rookie, Gibbs averaged 112 scrimmage yards per game in the three games Montgomery missed, while Montgomery averaged 81 scrimmage yards per game in the two games Gibbs missed. Gibbs, who also showed out in the postseason, is a special player with home run potential whenever he has the ball. Hopefully the hamstring injury suffered Monday isn't too serious.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/ranking-all-32-rb1s-heading-into-2024-nfl-season-christian-mccaffrey-derrick-henry-top-pecking-order

2024 NFL Preseason, Week 2: One thing to watch for on each of the 32 teams (Detroit Lions - LIONS: The Lions’ offensive starters are pretty well set in stone, but there are a few reserve jobs worth monitoring. After Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, who is next in line at receiver? Undrafted rookie Isaiah Williams helped his chances to make the team as one of the few passing-game standouts against the Giants last week, but Kalif Raymond and Daurice Fountain might be ahead of him now. There also could be a battle for the final RB spot between intriguing rookie Sione Vaki and camp standout Jermar Jefferson. Lastly, the backup QB battle between Nate Sudfeld and Hendon Hooker took a tough turn when Sudfeld struggled against the Giants and Hooker left with a concussion after two series. The Lions signed journeyman Jake Fromm this week to fill in if needed.  CHIEFS: There’s a lot of speculation as to how the WR room might shake out after the Marquise Brown injury, and it’s worth considering, but I’m more interested in the cornerbacks right now. The Chiefs had the confidence to trade L’Jarius Sneed this offseason, with Trent McDuffie ready to assume CB1 duties. The problem? I don’t know if it’s clear who the other starting outside corner will be. They have some reasonable options there, including the intriguing Joshua Williams, who might be due for an increase in work, but he was beat for a 41-yard catch against the Jaguars last week by rookie WR Brian Thomas Jr. On top of that, Jaylen Watson, Kelvin Joseph and Nazeeh Johnson have all been dealing with injuries, so it’s been harder to evaluate the position. The Chiefs might want to have all their corners play against the Lions to help firm up the position before the regular-season opener against the Ravens.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/2024-nfl-preseason-week-2-one-thing-to-watch-for-on-each-of-the-32-teams

NFC breakout candidates: A new potential star for every team (Detroit Lions: WR Jameson Williams - Patience is a virtue. That's what I've been telling myself since 2022, when I was convinced Williams was the top receiver in his draft class. Simply put, it hasn't played out that way yet — but injuries and a suspension are a big part of that. Williams showed flashes of his jaw-dropping ability at the end of Year 2, as he accounted for 25% of his yardage total in the Lions' three playoff games. If he keeps that going in 2024, he might start to look like the guy who kept defensive coordinators awake at night during his time at Alabama.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfc-breakout-candidates-new-potential-star-every-team
