2025 NFL free agency: Experts debate best signings, trades (Seth Walder, NFL analyst: The Lions signing cornerback D.J. Reed. He has been consistently good at a volatile position, allowing less than 1.1 yards per coverage snap (the average for an outside corner) in four consecutive seasons, per NFL Next Gen Stats. I also think he was the best corner in this free agency class, making him an upgrade over Carlton Davis III. The Patriots are now paying Davis $20 million per year, while the Lions are paying Reed only $16 million. So not only did the Lions get a great player to fill a crucial need, but they did it for a good value.):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/44249852/nfl-free-agency-2025-experts-big-questions-signings-trades-contracts

2025 NFL Draft: Worst-case scenarios for all 32 teams (Detroit Lions: Not drafting an edge rusher by Round 2
The Lions head into the draft with few obvious team needs, especially after adding D.J. Reed and retaining Levi Onwuzurike and Tim Patrick. Even then, adding secondary edge help next to the recuperating Aidan Hutchinson is a must after cutting Za’Darius Smith.  Detroit could wait to select an edge rusher in a deep group, but that feels ill-advised. Teams will likely make a run on the position throughout the first two rounds of the draft, and the level of talent certainly dips a tad even by the third round. General manager Brad Holmes should seek another dynamic, foundational pass rusher by Pick No. 60.):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2025-nfl-draft-worst-case-scenarios-all-32-teams

2025 NFL Draft:

2025 NFL Draft: Worst first-round fits for every team (28. Detroit Lions: S Malaki Starks - The Lions already have one of the best safety duos in the NFL with Brian Branch and Kerby Joseph, who helped lead Detroit’s safety unit to the league’s highest overall grade in 2024. While Starks is a talented prospect, his skill set overlaps with Branch's, making him redundant. With greater needs along the defensive line, Detroit would be better off addressing the trenches instead.):  https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2025-nfl-draft-worst-first-round-fits-for-every-team
