What Happened to Sam LaPorta? Latest on Lions Star’s Injury, How Long He’ll Be Out, and Whether He’ll Play Week 1: https://www.profootballnetwork.com/what-happened-to-sam-laporta-injury-week-1-2026/
Projecting the NFL's sack leaders for 2026: Which pass rushers will wreak the most havoc? (1. Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions - Projected mean 2026 sack total: 12.5. 2025 sack total: 14.5. This is the second straight year that Hutchinson leads our sack projections, despite having never actually led the league in sacks. But everything lines up for him to have a huge season. Two years ago, he had a prolific first five games (7.5 sacks, 35% pass rush win rate) before suffering a season-ending leg injury. Last season, Hutchinson stayed healthy and delivered 14.5 sacks in 17 games. If anything, this projection might be underrating Hutchinson, because while his legacy pass rush win rate was above average, he moved up to fourth among edge rushers in the updated version. The other big reason Hutchinson's forecast is so strong is playing time. Unlike many pass rushers, Hutchinson rarely comes off the field. He played 91% of his possible defensive snaps last season, a much higher rate than players such as Will Anderson Jr. (66%) or Nik Bonitto (62%). Hutchinson has two other perks working in his favor, the quality of the Lions' overall team (eighth in ESPN's Football Power Index) and the ease of their schedule (second easiest, according to FPI). That means Detroit should be ahead often, which is when sacks most frequently occur.): https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/49744451/nfl-sack-projections-2026-season-top-50-pass-rushers
NFL Saturday Schedule: What Football Games Are on TV Today? (Indianapolis Colts vs Detroit Lions - The Colts are expected to give Anthony Richardson the start and roughly a quarter of action, with Riley Leonard taking over afterward. Daniel Jones and Jonathan Taylor are expected to sit. Indianapolis also plans to give several veterans limited work, including Keenan Allen. Detroit has not announced a defined workload for its starters, leaving Jared Goff and other first-team players’ availability uncertain. The bigger focus will be on the roster competition behind Goff, particularly the battle between Josh Dobbs and Luke Altmyer. Altmyer has thrown for 216 yards and a touchdown this preseason.): https://athlonsports.com/nfl/trending/nfl-saturday-schedule-what-football-games-are-on-tv-today
1 potential NFL cut or trade candidate from all 32 teams (Detroit Lions: EDGE Payton Turner - Salary cap savings: $1,145,000. Juice Scruggs or Ben Bartch could wind up on the chopping block when center Cade Mays returns, but his preseason injury has granted them a reprieve for now. Instead, the biggest cut for the Lions may be Turner, the former first round pick who has played just 31 games as a pro — with only five sacks to show for it.): https://ftw.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2026/08/29/nfl-cut-day-candidates-names-all-teams/91476092007/
7 Rookie NFL Draft Picks Most At Risk of Being Roster Cuts This Weekend (Tyre West, DL, Detroit Lions - Defensive tackle Tyre West was the Detroit Lions' lone seventh-round pick. The Tennessee graduate played just four snaps in the preseason opener, earning a lackluster grade of 30.4 from Pro Football Focus for his small sample-size performance. The Lions have had all summer to assess West's capabilities, but the preseason didn't provide enough opportunities to guarantee him a 53-man roster spot. They are fairly loaded on the d-line, with West listed behind players like Tyleik Williams and Alim McNeil.): https://www.si.com/nfl/draft/onsi/news/7-rookie-nfl-draft-picks-most-at-risk-of-being-roster-cuts-this-weekend
