Week 13 Predictions

SN Iyer (Thanksgiving Day Games
Packers at Lions (-3, 49 o/u) - The Lions' offense saved the day against the Giants' offense taking it to them through the air with plenty of Jahmyr Gibbs. The Week 1 matchup in Green Bay was rough for Jared Goff, but he should keep feeling it more with Gibbs and Amon St. Brown doing a lot of damage in the short-to-intermediate passing game to take pressure off Goff vs. Micah Parsons. Jordan Love's running game will find a little more tough sledding and has limited firepower with which to match.  Pick: Lions win 30-24 and cover the spread.):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-against-spread-week-13/d9b75296aacafb37181e638c

SN Bender (Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions (-2.5) - NFC North rivals meet – and the Packers beat the Lions on Thanksgiving in 2023. Green Bay limited the Lions to 46 rushing yards with three turnovers in Week 1. The Packers are 3-1-1 S/U on the road – but their offense will have to take more chances here. Pick: Lions 28, Packers 20):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-week-13/a6f8a9e661bc44556ed32141

The Big Lead (Green Bay Packers @ Detroit Lions (-2.5) - The Lions come into this matchup on the outside of the current playoff picture, looking in, just a half game behind the Packers for the #6 spot in the NFC. They managed to come back and beat the Giants last week in a game that many of us expected them to control from the opening gun. As of now, we aren’t really sure if the comeback was a sign of the Lions determination and grit, or it was just a case of a team playing the Giants this season. In fact, I have more questions about teams like the Chargers and Eagles, who didn’t come back and beat New York in the 4th quarter, as every other team that’s played them has. Green Bay took care of business at home last week against a Viking team that seems completely lost, so I’m not sure if we can draw too many conclusions from their performance either. Jordan Love didn’t have to do much of anything for Green Bay to come away with an easy win, but this week should be a completely different story. This is going to be a close game, as the line implies, and I expect both teams to be able to score. Whether or not Josh Jacobs plays, Green Bay will still use the running game to set up any shots downfield by Love. The Lions seem more battle-tested at this point in the season and will be looking to even the score after dropping the week 1 matchup between these two teams. I don’t love the Lions coaching staff in a game that could come down to a key decision late in the game, but I think that’s more of a worry for later if they actually make the postseason. I’ll lean towards the home team to grab this one.  Lions 27 – Packers 24):  https://www.thebiglead.com/nfl-predicting-the-winner-for-every-game-in-week-13/

Pro Picks: Texans will upset the Colts to tighten the race in the AFC South (GREEN BAY (7-3-1) at DETROIT (7-4) - Line: Lions minus 2 1/2.  The Packers have won two straight, the defense led by Micah Parsons is dominating and they’re underdogs for the first time this season. The Lions had to rally to beat the lowly Giants after a poor offensive performance in a loss at Philadelphia. They’re looking to avoid getting swept by Green Bay. Detroit is 6-2 in the past eight meetings. The Packers are 20-18 overall and 25-13-1 against the spread as an underdog under coach Matt LaFleur.  LIONS: 24-20):  https://apnews.com/article/thanksgiving-nfl-stroud-mills-jones-taylor-colts-texans-8b493c5902319a430fef9152864b3ccb

Key Matchups, Predictions for Lions-Packers and More NFL Week 13 Games (Packers (7–3–1) at Lions (7–4) - Key matchup: Jared Goff vs. Jeff Hafley.  Key stat: Goff went for just 5.8 yards per attempt in their Week 1 matchup.  The Packers know how to beat Jared Goff and the Lions. They’ve already done it.   For Detroit, the question is how much to adjust. The Lions were beaten 27–13 with the benefit of a garbage-time touchdown to make the score more respectable. In Week 1, Green Bay hounded Goff, pressuring him 12 times and collecting four sacks while the veteran quarterback posted a -0.9 EPA for the game.  Additionally, star running backs Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery were stifled, gaining just 44 yards on 20 carries. The Packers have been tough against the run all season, ranking sixth with -0.10 EPA per rush attempt.  Offensive coordinator John Morton must figure out ways to attack Green Bay with 11 games of film to reference. Morton should have a better idea of his own personnel, albeit without tight end Sam LaPorta due to back surgery. In that Week 1 loss, Detroit struggled to handle interior pressures while All-Pro receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown was targeted only six times. For this game to be different, Morton will have to dial up some different runs, schemes to help the guards and center to deal with Micah Parsons when he lines up or stunts inside, and look for St. Brown with LaPorta sidelined.  Verdict: Detroit 30, Green Bay 27):  https://www.si.com/nfl/key-matchups-predictions-lions-packers-nfl-week-13-games

CBS Dajani (Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions (-2.5) - Dajani (Packers +2.5): I'm not the biggest Packers fan in the world, but give me the upset! The last time the Packers played in Detroit on Thanksgiving, they upset Jared Goff and Co. Jordan Love is 2-0 on Thanksgiving with five touchdowns and zero interceptions, while Goff is 1-3, averaging 241 passing yards per game and two touchdowns per contest. Believe it or not, this is the Packers' first game as an underdog this season. Obviously the Packers defense is going to have to contain Jahmyr Gibbs and Love is going to have to take care of the football and score some points, but I think Green Bay is more than capable of doing that. Watching Jameis Winston tear up the Lions defense last week was pretty concerning. Prediction: Packers 24, Lions 21.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-13-picks-dueling-expert-predictions/

CBS Prisco (Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions (-2.5):  The Packers impressed in shutting down the Vikings last week, but this will be a bigger challenge. The Lions offense, especially at home, can be explosive. The Packers offense has not been that. But I think they can get to that in this one against a suspect Lions secondary. Look for a lot of points as the Packers to win it with a late sack to stop a Lions threat. Jordan Love will play big.  Pick: Packers 34, Lions 31):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/priscos-week-13-nfl-picks-packers-over-lions-chiefs-top-cowboys/

Ranking the NFL’s most clutch players in 2025 by PFF grades and stats (Fourth Quarter (min. 50 snaps) - 3. EDGE Aidan Hutchinson, Detroit Lions (91.9).  Hutchinson is virtually always unblockable, but especially so in a game’s last frame. His 30 total pressures are easily the most in the NFL in the fourth quarter, and his 5.0 sacks are second. The Michigan product has done so efficiently, amassing a 29.3% pass-rush win rate.  Red Zone (min. 50 snaps) - 1. T Penei Sewell, Detroit Lions (95.0).  Sewell is the league’s highest-graded player regardless of position (95.9), and he’s similarly outstanding inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. In the red zone, Sewell boasts a gaudy 96.8 PFF run-blocking grade while permitting pressure on only 2.0% of pass-blocking snaps.):  https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/47085977/nfl-week-13-power-rankings-poll-32-teams-2025-best-thanksgiving-memories

NFL Week 12: Rookie Team of the Week (Interior Offensive Line: Tate Ratledge, Detroit Lions – 71.5.  The Giants have one of the more formidable defensive lines in the league. but you wouldn’t know it if you just watched Ratledge’s tape against them in Week 12. Ratledge permitted just one pressure on 48 pass-blocking snaps while not recording a single negatively-graded run block. In fact, the Lions ran three man/duo runs and Ratledge recorded a positively-graded block on all three for an 87.1 grade on such attempts.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-week-12-rookie-team-of-the-week

Biggest reason why these 11 contenders won't win Super Bowl (Detroit Lions: Playing from behind, outdoor games.  Like the Seahawks, the Lions are not built to play from behind. Nobody is, really, but their specific style of offense, with all the under-center play-action and misdirection at times feels like it can crumble under the weight of having to become a straight dropback operation when down by multiple scores in the second half. Against the Giants, you can win. But against real teams? The Lions also likely won't have the benefit of home-field advantage for much of the playoffs, even if they win the NFC North (and they're still a game behind). The offense looks much different outdoors than it does on the fast track of Ford Field or against other domed opponents, so having to go outside for a playoff game in, say, Philly, could prove difficult.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/super-bowl-odds-contenders-rams-eagles/

Five things we liked and didn't like from Week 12 (5 things we liked in Week 12 - Jahmyr Gibbs is a superstar - There were lots of huge individual performances in huge wins in Week 12. I wish I could shout them all out. Myles Garrett, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and George Pickens are among the ones that would earn top billing if Jahmyr Gibbs didn't do what he did: 219 rushing yards, 45 receiving yards and three touchdowns, including the game-winning 69-yarder on the first play of overtime.  The Lions needed every bit of it. Detroit's defense was a mess, getting picked apart by Jameis Winston. Jared Goff was up and down, once again looking shaky behind a shaky offensive line. Detroit trailed by 10 in the fourth quarter and was in danger of losing for the third time in four games.  Gibbs wouldn't let it happen. His 49-yard scamper to start the rally was even more impressive than the game winner.  Credit Dan Campbell for not abandoning the run when down. Credit the Lions for making Gibbs the clear feature back; he is playing over 62% of Detroit's offensive snaps this season, a career high, and played nearly 74% of the snaps against the Giants, his third-highest rate this season. He now has three plays hitting 22-plus mph as a ball-carrier this season; the entire rest of the NFL has three combined. They say speed kills, but Sunday, it helped the Lions survive.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-12-five-things-we-liked-didnt-like-gibbs-chiefs-parity/

2024 NFL Draft regrade: Who's a star, who's stalled and what's changed
Ryan Wilson (24. His eight pass breakups currently ranks 14th in the league.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2024-nfl-draft-regrade-updated-grades-first-round-picks/

Albert Breer’s Tuesday notes (Detroit Lions - This year’s been different for the Lions, whose 2024 season was a parade of dominance (until it wasn’t, at the very end). I asked Aidan Hutchinson about the bumpier road on Sunday and the challenges posed by the coaching changes. As he sees it, Detroit’s got a chance to be better off for all of it.  “We’ve had a little bit of adversity in these first 11 weeks with a few losses—I think these losses are going to serve us really well in the end,” Hutchinson said. “I think we’re gonna be hitting our stride right when we need to be, which is what you need to do in this league.”  We’ll see if it starts Thursday against the Packers.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/jaxon-smith-njigba-nfl-most-outstanding-player

Week 13 Power Rankings

PFN (4. Detroit Lions - Last Week’s Ranking: 6.  Playoff Odds: 63.10%.  It wasn’t the prettiest win in the world, but the Detroit Lions came back to send the Giants to overtime at Ford Field, picking up the victory on Sunday. The win improved their record to 7-4 and boosted their playoff hopes.  Detroit has some difficult opponents the rest of the year, like the Packers and Rams. The Bears are a different team from the group they faced back in Week 2, and the likes of the Cowboys, Vikings, and Steelers are hardly a walk in the park. The Lions still look like a top team in the NFL, but these next few weeks will tell us who they really are.):  https://www.profootballnetwork.com/nfl-power-rankings-week-13-2025/

FTW (5. Detroit Lions - Last week: 6.  Jahmyr Gibbs was drafted specifically for days like Sunday. With Jared Goff struggling, the Sonic side of Detroit's Sonic & Knuckles duo rose up and willed the Lions to victory with a pain of long, late touchdown runs. Touchdown wire (5. Detroit Lions: The Lions bounce back into the top tier of the rankings this week after following up a tight loss to the Eagles with a too-close-for-comfort win over the Giants. But that's how life goes sometimes, and at the end of the day, putting another 'W' in the win column means good things for the Lions. Jahmyr Gibbs ran for 219 yards and two touchdowns, proving again he's among the most dangerous skill players in the NFL, and you should not count the Lions out as a top team in the NFC.):  https://touchdownwire.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/touchdown/2025/11/25/week-13-nfl-power-rankings-eagles-fall-from-first-detroit-lions-back-in-the-top-5/87456932007/

PFF (5. Detroit Lions (Up 1) - Chance of making playoffs: 72%.  Chance of winning Super Bowl: 6%.  The Lions edged their way, rather nervously and unconvincingly, past the Giants in overtime in Week 12 to move to 7-4 on the season. In large part, that was thanks to a huge effort from Jahmyr Gibbs (90.7 grade; 1st). Gibbs exploded for 219 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while adding 11 catches for 45 yards and a receiving touchdown, good for a 91.4 overall PFF grade. If the postseason started today, the Lions would be on the outside looking in of the playoff picture — an uncommon sight in recent years.):  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-week-13-power-rankings-texans-keep-rising-buccaneers-stumble

Walter football (6. Detroit Lions (7-4) – Previously: 6.  The Lions are not in good shape. They desperately need home-field advantage because Jared Goff simply can’t play in poor weather conditions, especially when going up against a team that can generate tons of pressure. Given the Lions’ 7-4 record, it’s highly unlikely that they’ll avoid playing outside come January. Their defense looked horrendous against the Giants. I’ve demoted them to Group B.):  https://walterfootball.com/nflpowerrankings.php

SI (6. Detroit Lions (6–4) - Last week’s ranking: No. 8.  Last week’s result: beat Giants, 34–27 (OT).  This week: vs. Packers.  The Lions were briefly trapped in the Jameis Winston vortex, a kind of siren song that has chewed up and spat out strong teams. But true to their character, the team managed to survive and nab the all-too-predictable gutting interception that Winston was going to inevitably lay up. Detroit’s offense takes almost no deep shots despite having a troika of excellent deep ball wide receivers. I think there is still another evolution to this team in 2025.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/nfl-power-rankings-eagles-collapse-leads-shakeup-top

ESPN (8. Detroit Lions (7-4) - Week 12 result: Beat the Giants 34-27 (OT).  Week 12 ranking: 8.  Thanksgiving game memory: Lions top Bears 23-20 in 2024.  After three straight Thanksgiving losses as coach of the Lions, Dan Campbell finally ended the team's seven-year holiday drought last season. With the win, the 11-1 Lions also got off to their best start in franchise history. For quarterback Jared Goff, it was a "bucket list" moment, as he enjoyed a turkey leg following 221 passing yards and two touchdown passes. Last week: 8.  Sunday: Beat Giants 34-27 (OT).  One big question: Is the offense fixed?  Thursday’s Thanksgiving game should be a ton of fun with this high-powered Lions offense against a good Packers defense. NFL.com (8. Detroit Lions:  The Lions needed a twisting 59-yard field goal from Jake Bates and a 69-yard OT touchdown from Jahmyr Gibbs to survive against the Giants, and it felt more like relief than jubilation at game's end. Everything has seemingly become more difficult for Detroit, even things we used to take for granted, like Jared Goff's pass protection and Amon-Ra St. Brown's ability to catch everything thrown his way. Now that those are no longer givens, it becomes tougher to beat even routine opponents when the defense can't prevent big plays. This has been a gauntlet of a schedule, so the Lions are allowed a tough game here and there, and they remain strong contenders for both the playoffs and a third straight division title. Still, it's hard not to be a little antsy about their chances with so many more tough games remaining and some issues seemingly not going away.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-power-rankings-week-13-2025-nfl-season

NFL stats and records, Week 12: RB Jahmyr Gibbs closes in on Lions legend (1. Gibbs is closing in on Lions legend - Jahmyr Gibbs has become the premier touchdown scorer in the NFL. Since being drafted out of Alabama in 2023, Gibbs leads the NFL with 44 touchdowns. In Week 12 against the Giants, Gibbs added three more, including a 69-yard run in overtime to set up a 34-27 win.  Gibbs finished with 15 carries for 219 yards and two touchdowns, plus 11 receptions for 45 yards and another score. No context is needed to know this is an all-time stat line -- but here's some anyways ...  Gibbs became the second player to rush for at least 200 yards and have at least 10 receptions in the same game, joining Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, who did so in 2002 against the Broncos. Gibbs also became the first Lions player to rush for at least 200 yards in a game since Barry Sanders did so twice during his 1997 MVP campaign. The 44 touchdowns referenced earlier are tied with Randy Moss for the second-most touchdowns by any player in NFL history prior to his 24th birthday. Standing alone atop that list? Sanders, with 47 touchdowns. Gibbs, who doesn't turn 24 until March, has the rest of the season to surpass the Lions legend for that all-time record.  Including the playoffs, this was the 13th game in Gibbs' career in which he scored multiple touchdowns, which ties him with Jim Brown and Rob Gronkowski for the most such games by a player prior to his 24th birthday.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-stats-and-records-week-12-rb-jahmyr-gibbs-closes-in-on-lions-legend

He dominated New York with 219 rushing yards (on only 15 carries), 45 receiving yards (on 11 catches) and three total touchdowns in a game that was far more competitive than anticipated. Gibbs often gets overshadowed by great backs like Jonathan Taylor, Saquon Barkley and Derrick Henry. 2025 NFL Thanksgiving schedule: Chiefs-Cowboys headline (Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions:  This is a much-anticipated rematch of the Week 1 game wherein the Packers absolutely laid the smack down on the Lions. Detroit will surely have revenge on its mind for this one, while Green Bay will be looking to pull off another win and stake a claim to the division title.  The Lions have played more Thanksgiving games than any other team, playing 85 times since 1934. They're 38-45-2 all time, but they finally got a win last year after losing each season from 2017 through 2023. Last year's game, of course, was notable for the clock-management abomination that resulted in then-Bears coach Matt Eberflus (now the defensive coordinator for the Cowboys) being fired.  For the Lions, this game is part of a tough post-bye week schedule, wherein they play the Vikings (loss), Commanders (win), Eagles, Giants, Packers, Cowboys and Rams all in a row. That game against Dallas the week after Thanksgiving is also on "Thursday Night Football."  The Packers, as many know, were once the Lions' annual opponent on Thanksgiving, playing them every year from 1951 through 1963. In their 38 total Thanksgiving games, the Packers are 16-20-2. They last played on Thanksgiving, well, last year. They beat the Dolphins 30-13 in the prime-time game. This will actually mark their third straight Thanksgiving game, as they played and beat the Lions 29-22 back in 2023. The game comes in the middle of a tough divisional stretch for the Packers, who play the Vikings in Week 12, Detroit in Week 13 and the Bears in Week 14.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2025-nfl-thanksgiving-schedule-packers-lions-cowboys-chiefs-triple-header/

NFL Week 12 Team of the Week: Jahmyr Gibbs, Jaxon Smith-Njigba Headline Squad (RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Lions - This is just the second game in NFL history where a player rushed for 200 or more yards and caught at least 10 passes. The other was Hall of Famer LaDainian Tomlinson, who ran for 220 yards and caught 11 passes, also in an overtime win.   Gibbs had a huge day for Detroit, rushing 15 times for 219 yards and two scores, including a 69-yard score on the first play of overtime. He also caught 11 passes for 45 yards and a touchdown as the Lions held off the Giants for a much-needed home win.  OL: Detroit Lions
They did give up three sacks, but that's in 45 dropbacks for Jared Goff. The Lions offensive line line – from left to right: Taylor Decker, Kayode Awosika, Graham Glasgow, rookie Tate Ratledge and Penei Sewell – paved the way for a rushing attack that got 237 yards in an overtime win over the Giants. That's a season high for Detroit, and the team average of 11.9 yards per carry is an NFL high this season, breaking the mark of 11.7 set by the Chargers against the same bad Giants run defense.):  https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-week-12-team-jahmyr-gibbs-jaxon-smith-njigba

Week 12 NFL Takeaways: How the Lions Can Build Off the ‘Bad Stuff’ (Detroit Lions - The Lions weren’t at their best Sunday, and still won, proving a lot in doing so. Watching Detroit’s 34–27 win over the Giants, I recalled a lot of things from their playoff ouster against Washington in January. I remember how this dominant, physical, tough team didn’t have it that day, and couldn’t reel things back in against a red-hot Commanders team. Every time they’d come close, something else would go wrong.  Similarly, Sunday’s game against the Giants got away from the Lions several times.  Detroit fell behind by 10 in the first quarter, then again in the second quarter, and finally once more in the fourth quarter. New York interim coach Mike Kafka emptied his bag of tricks on the Lions, fooling them on a double-pass flea-flicker that ended with Jameis Winston throwing a 39-yard touchdown pass to Wan’Dale Robinson. Then, Kafka did it again on an end-around throwback, resulting in a 33-yard scoring strike from Gunner Olszewski to Winston, who broke a tackle to score.  Meanwhile, Jared Goff threw a red-zone interception at the end of the third quarter that bounced off Amon-Ra St. Brown’s hands, and the defense allowed the Giants to drive from their own 8-yard line to the Lions’ 2 in the game’s waning moments.  A work of art, this was not. But on a day that may have felt like the last game of their banner 2024 season, this time, the Lions never let go of the rope.  “Absolutely, I think the fact we did all the bad stuff and let up all those plays, offense and defense, special teams, and still won the game? That’s really great,” defensive end Aidan Hutchinson told me after. “When you aren’t playing your best ball and you’re still winning football games, that’s the mark of a good team. We gotta build off that. It’s when adversity strikes, players coming through, making plays and getting us out of those games.”  Even better, the guys who bailed the Lions out were their best players. Jahmyr Gibbs gave the offense the spark it needed in the fourth quarter, making a couple of guys miss in the hole, in very tight quarters, before busting loose for a 49-yard touchdown. St. Brown caught three balls from Goff on Detroit’s 13-play, 53-yard drive to set up Jake Bates’s game-tying 59-yard field goal.  Then, Gibbs went 69 yards for a score on the first scrimmage play of overtime, and Hutchinson sacked Winston on fourth down to end it on the Giants’ only possession.  “That’s what good football teams do,” Hutchinson said. “When the fire gets a little bit hot, your best players have to step up and make plays in those moments. No matter how tired or deep in the game it gets, it’s gotta be there. And we did that today; that’s why we won. We are super happy we got this one in. Now, we are going to move on and get ready for the Packers.”  With the NFC North race bunched up—the Bears are 8–3, the Packers are 7-3-1 and Detroit is 7–4—that one, on Thanksgiving, now takes on a little more meaning. And the Lions might feel a little more prepared for that, after surviving what they did Sunday.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/week-12-nfl-takeaways-how-lions-can-build-off-bad-stuff

NFL Week 12 winners and losers: Eagles crush themselves with conservative offense (NFL Week 12 losers - Amon-Ra St. Brown.  After catching just two of 12 targets in the Lions' offensive face plant last week against the Eagles, St. Brown said he wasn't concerned about the uncharacteristic drops that were starting to pile up. “I've caught so many balls in my life that the next one comes, I'm going to catch it, and I'm going to catch a lot more than I don't," he told reporters last week. The problem persisted this week, however, as St. Brown had two more costly whiffs, including one that led to a Jevon Holland interception. It's hardly panic time for the two-time All-Pro, but Detroit's offense doesn't have the same margin for error as it did in previous years.  NFL Week 12 winners - Jahmyr Gibbs.  Sunday looked like it could be calamitous for the Detroit Lions, who found themselves in a 10-point fourth-quarter hole at home against the shorthanded New York Giants. Gibbs, however, prevented a full-blown meltdown. The running back ripped off a 49-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth to cut the deficit, and his 69-yard scoring sprint in overtime provided the ultimate edge in a 34-27 win. He finished the day with a career-high 264 yards from scrimmage and three touchdowns on 26 total touches. Gibbs also reaffirmed his status as the league's premier breakaway threat, as he now owns three of the four fastest speeds by a ball carrier this season, according to Next Gen Stats.NFL Week 12 losers):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/2025/11/24/nfl-week-12-winners-losers-philadelphia-eagles/87435166007/

32 things we learned in Week 12: A trade paid off for cruising Cowboys (20. The Detroit Lions rode Jahmyr Gibbs hard in order to avoid their first losing streak since 2022. The third-year back rushed for career-best 219 yards (and had a career-high 264 yards from scrimmage) and scored three times − including a 69-yard run in overtime − as Detroit staved off the Giants 34-27.  21. The Lions will be back on the field Thursday, Thanksgiving afternoon, against the Green Bay Packers in the second portion of their season-long three-game homestand. Detroit, which currently still sits outside the NFC playoff field despite a 7-4 record, needs to string some wins together.):  https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/columnist/nate-davis/2025/11/23/nfl-week-12-takeaways-cowboys-eagles-george-pickens/87439196007/

NFL: Two takeaways from every game on Sunday in Week 12 (Detroit def New York Giants 34-27 OT:  This game was much closer than most people would have expected. Mike Kafka did a tremendous job of play-calling early in the game and kept the Giants close. In fact, the Giants were winning for much of this game until the Lions scored 10 points in the fourth quarter to come back and tie it. James Winston finished with 366 yards and two touchdowns, and Wan’dale Robinson had nine receptions for 156 yards and a touchdown. The Giants were in this game to the very end, and once again, it was their defense that let them down.  There may not be a more explosive player in all of fantasy football than Jahmyr Gibbs. Gibbs had 219 yards rushing and two touchdowns to go along with 11 receptions for 45 yards and a touchdown. The Lions have a huge game on Thanksgiving against Green Bay, and they’re going to have to play much better defensively if they want to win.):  https://www.thebiglead.com/nfl-two-takeaways-from-every-game-on-sunday-in-week-12/

NFL Week 12 Recap: Detroit Lions 34, New York Giants 27:  https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-week-12-recap-detroit-lions-34-new-york-giants-27

NFL Week 12 takeaways: What We Learned from Sunday's 12 games (Kevin Patra's takeaways:  1. Gibbs saves Lions from a disastrous home loss to two-win Giants. The Lions haven’t looked quite right the past few weeks, with an offense that is just a tick off behind a struggling interior offensive line. On Sunday, Jared Goff was sacked three times and several drops nearly doomed Detroit. Jahmyr Gibbs wouldn’t let them lose. The explosive running back was the best player on the field. He gashed the Giants for 219 rushing yards with two long touchdowns, including a 69-yard house call on the first play in overtime. Gibbs added another 45 yards and a score on 11 catches. In all, the RB accounted for 264 of the Lions' 494 yards and three of their four TDs. When the offense was shuffling its feet, Gibbs hit turf in hyperdrive. A big play whenever he touches the pigskin, Gibbs’ ability to bounce off tackle, keep his feet, and run past the secondary was on full display. He generated runs of 69 yards, 49 yards, 49 yards, and 10 yards. Gibbs earned 184 yards and both rushing touchdowns on carries between the tackles, the most such yards by any player this season, per Next Gen Stats. Detroit’s offense needs to find more consistency against better teams, but as long as Gibbs is on the field, they’re in good hands.  2. Jameis Winston has a near-classic Jameis Winston game. The Giants played like they had nothing to lose on the road against a playoff-caliber team. Tight-roping the wire is where Jameis Winston lives. It’s either magic or tragic. For the most part, Winston was sensational Sunday, splashing big play after big play after big play after big play after big play after big play -- Lions fans are annoyed at this truthful repetition. Big Blue opened the game with a toss back to the quarterback, who launched it for a 39-yard touchdown bomb to Wan'Dale Robinson. It was a sign of things to come for Winston and the Giants. Later, Winston caught a pass, broke a tackle, and rumbled his way for a 33-yard touchdown. Winston completed 10 passes of 20-plus yards en route to a 366-yard, 2-TD day. He did throw one INT, but it didn’t bite the Giants (the lack of tackling on Gibbs did). On a day he avoided pass rushers, sometimes miraculously, Winston’s lone sack of the game came on the final play. It was apropos for the QB’s career. Credit Mike Kafka for having his team ready to play on the road, but the defense's issues continue to lead to collapses. 3. It wasn’t pretty, but Dan Campbell will take the W. Another loss would have made it awfully tough on the Lions to make the postseason. A win, even by the skin of their sharp-toothed teeth, still counts. The offense was wobbly for stretches once again, and big drops from Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams could have been the story of the game. Detroit’s defense couldn’t get stops, giving up 25 first downs and eight third-down conversions, including four of third-and-6 or longer, and a fourth-and-10 scramble from Winston to keep the game alive in OT. But when they needed it, Kelvin Sheppard’s defense stood up. The Lions got a four-down goal-line stop to keep the deficit to three points and allow the offense to force overtime. After Gibbs gave them their first lead, Aidan Hutchinson finally got to Winston to call the game. On a short week, with Green Bay heading to Motown on Thanksgiving, Detroit would have preferred the defense not play 77 snaps, but avoiding back-to-back losses for the first time since 2022 was the key.  Next Gen Stats Insight for Giants-Lions (via NFL Pro): Winston's 13.6 air yards per completion is the highest mark in a game league-wide since Week 1 of last season (Anthony Richardson), and he completed4 of 4 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown on attempts beyond 20 air yards. NFL Research: Jahmyr Gibbs’ 44th career touchdown surpassed Hall of Famer Jim Brown (42), Hall of Famer Emmitt Smith (43) and tied Hall of Famer Randy Moss (44) to tie for the second-most touchdowns of any player prior to their 24th birthday. He trails only Barry Sanders (47).):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-week-12-takeaways-what-we-learned-from-sunday-s-12-games

NFL Week 12 winners and losers: Gibbs explodes for Lions (Winner: Jahmyr Gibbs - We just have to highlight the man who powered the Lions' comeback win over New York, because the electricity with which he moved was unmatched across Sunday's games. Gibbs has been a highlight reel all year, but he was extra special racing past the Giants' secondary late in Week 12's contest, finishing with 264 scrimmage yards and three scores. Even if Jared Goff isn't dealing with elite stuff, Gibbs is capable of carrying Motown's attack.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-12-winners-and-losers-mahomes-gibbs-mccarthy/

NFL Week 12 overreactions: Chiefs save season? Steelers in free fall? (Chicago Bears will win the NFC North - Overreaction or reality: Overreaction.  The Bears still stand atop the NFC North coming out of Week 12, improving to 8-3 on the year after fending off the Pittsburgh Steelers at home. While they are currently in the driver's seat in the division, declaring them the favorite to ultimately be in this position when the season comes to a close would be a step too far. Chicago only leads Green Bay by a half-game and the Lions by a game, so this is still a tightly contested division race. It's also worth pointing out that Chicago still has two matchups with the Packers left on the schedule, along with a regular-season finale against Detroit, so these teams can make up ground in a hurry. Outside of those remaining division matchups, the Bears have road games against the Eagles (Week 13) and 49ers (Week 17), so there is a risk that this four-game winning streak dries up rather quickly.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-12-overreactions-chiefs-season-saved-steelers-amid-second-half-collapse/

What to know from NFL Week 12: Big OT wins for the Lions and Chiefs? Concern for the Steelers? (Lions -What does a close win like this say about the Lions? Very concerning. On paper, this game shouldn't have been close, as the Giants entered Ford Field with a 2-9 record and led Detroit for much of the game. Detroit continued to struggle on offense and defense for most of this game, which has come during a tough November stretch. That was until kicker Jake Bates nailed a 59-yard field goal at the end of regulation to tie the game at 27, and then running back Jahmyr Gibbs saved the game with a 69-yard rushing touchdown on the opening drive in overtime. Gibbs was spectacular, ending with three touchdowns, including 15 carries for 219 rushing yards and 11 receptions for 45 receiving yards. Trend to watch: Lions wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown dropped two passes, including his first target in the opening quarter. He now has a career-high four drops this season. St. Brown had one drop in 152 targets all last season, which came in the divisional-round loss to the Commanders. On the other hand, his catch with just over seven minutes left in the third quarter was the 500th of his career. The Good, Bad and Ugly, Week 12: Seahawks Receiver on Pace to Make NFL History (Bad: The Lions won, but the defense can’t feel terrific about the effort.  Detroit has to be ecstatic. It looked like the Lions were about to suffer a devastating home loss to the two-win Giants, who came into the game 0–6 on the road with an interim coach and their third quarterback. Instead, the Lions won in overtime, tying the game with under a minute remaining on a 59-yard field goal, before getting the eventual game-winning touchdown on a 69-yard Jahmyr Gibbs run on the opening play of overtime.  Still, there are serious concerns. Detroit allowed 6.7 yards per play and 517 total yards. The defense couldn’t tackle Jameis Winston, a quarterback, who caught a 33-yard pass and rambled in for six points. Wan’Dale Robinson finished the day with 156 receiving yards, and had more than 100 in the first quarter. Against quality teams, that’s a recipe for a blowout defeat.  Still, the Lions are 7–4 and kept pace with the Bears and Packers in the NFC North. But if the defense, which allowed 27 points to the McCarthy-led Vikings, and 30 apiece to the Ravens and Chiefs, can’t get going, it’ll be tough sledding in the weeks ahead.):  https://www.si.com/nfl/good-bad-ugly-week-12-seahawks-receiver-nfl-history

CBS (Lions Grade B-. With the Giants looking to pull off an upset, Jahmyr Gibbs put the Lions on his back and carried them to victory, Gibbs totaled 264 yards and three touchdowns, including a 69-yard TD run in overtime that sealed the win. Gibbs came through in the clutch, rushing for 122 yards in the fourth quarter and overtime combined. Although the offense was good, the Lions couldn't put the game away because their defense couldn't stop Jameis Winston and a Giants offensive attack that piled up more than 500 yards. Last year, the Lions' undoing ended up being the fact that their defense couldn't stop anyone down the stretch, and if they don't fix things soon, they could end up with the same fate this year.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-12-grades-chiefs-earn-a-with-season-saving-win-over-colts-lions-get-b-for-wild-victory/
