La Canfora: Jets, Dolphins win big in draft (Trading down worked: It wasn't easy on the first day, but the teams pulling it off -- the Lions and49ers -- did very well. Detroit gets two starting offensive linemen, including a veteran in Manny Ramirez.):   http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/writer/jason-la-canfora/25173342/nfl-draft-dolphins-jets-ravens-score-browns-panthers-do-not

First impressions of 2015 NFL draft ranked 1-32 with Jets at top (20. Detroit Lions: Round 1 seemed a little early for G Laken Tomlinson, but he might not have been around when the Lions picked in the second round. Reacquiring veteran G Manny Ramirez should temper any concerns about the blocking in front of QB Matthew Stafford this year. The arrival of second-round RB Ameer Abdullah almost surely means Reggie Bush won't be missed. Added depth at corner might help offset potentially diminished pressure from a Suh-less defensive line.):   http://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nfl/draft/2015/05/02/first-impressions-rankings-jets-leonard-williams-jaguars-vikings-trae-waynes/26793997/

Josh Bordner will join Lions minicamp (Bordner had a productive fifth year at Boston College after transitioning from a quarterback to wide receiver. He played in all 13 games, starting 10. He led the Eagles with 346 receiving yards, 27 receptions and 26.6 yards per game. He caught three touchdowns and averaged 12.8 yards per catch. He also became a great blocking tight end, clearing the way for long runs by quarterback Tyler Murphy and the BC running back core. The Sukesville, Md., native was voted a team captain before the start of the season. He had a career-long 48-yard touchdown reception in a victory over Maine, finishing the day with three catches for 64 yards. He also caught four passes for 71 yards against Colorado State. Against Clemson, Bordner caught a six-yard touchdown and completed a 35-yard pass.):   www.patriotledger.com/article/20150504/BLOGS/150508747/2000/NEWS

Lindsey, a defensive back, will attend a three-day camp with the Detroit Lions. He had 41 tack:   http://www.salina.com/sports/local_briefs/briefs-for-tuesday/article_7bec5a87-5ac7-52f4-810e-aafe53ccb0d9.html

NFC North: Josh Katzenstein breaks down each team's draft (Overview: The Lions made it clear with this draft they want to continue being the physical team they looked like in 2014. Laken Tomlinson and Ameer Abdullah should provide a jolt to the power run game because Abdullah plays bigger than his 5-foot-9 frame. Alex Carter and Quandre Diggs are two of the harder-hitting cornerbacks in the draft. Best pick: Carter, who can play press and be an option at nickel or, eventually, safety. Potential steal: Gabe Wright, who can be a solid pass rusher with one-on-one matchups next to Haloti Ngata. Questionable decision: Trading down in the first round helped the Lions' offensive line significantly, but with Ziggy Ansah the only top-tier pass rusher on the roster, they might regret giving up the pick that the Broncos used on Shane Ray.):   http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2015/05/03/look-back-draft-nfc-north-teams/26849281/

Lions, Vikings among winners in NFL draft (Detroit: There was nothing sexy about the Lions' draft, but they filled the biggest hole on the team on Day 1, drafting guard Laken Tomlinson and acquiring interior offensive lineman Manny Ramirez in a trade from the Broncos. With those two, Ameer Abdullah and fullback Michael Burton, the Lions have the pieces to improve the run game and take pressure off Matthew Stafford.):   http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/nfl/lions/2015/05/03/vikings-lions-get-thumbs-draft-picks/26849919/

Mayhew tweaked strategy, addressed Lions' needs in NFL Draft (Detroit took Nebraska's Ameer Abdullah, who rushed for more than 1,600 yards in each of his last two years, in the second round. The rap on him is ball-security, but much of his fumbling came early in his career. Abduallah can help fill the void following the release of Reggie Bush. What's more, he's expected to challenge Jeremy Ross for the return-specialist duties, another position that was targeted by the Lions.)
