Patient and displays outstanding vision as well as instincts. Waits for blocks to develop, finds the open lanes, and has a burst through the hole. Follows blocks everywhere on the field, runs with excellent lean, and plays faster than his 40 time. Rarely tackled by the initial defender and doesn’t go down without a fight. Squeezes through the small openings of the offensive line, finds ways to pick up yardage, and breaks arm tackles. Sidesteps defenders, quickly gets to top speed, and gets a lot of momentum going. 2023 NFL Draft: 5 Players to Watch in Shrine Bowl (Running Back Mohamed Ibrahim, Minnesota: This might be the most underappreciated prospect in the entire draft class. Ibrahim was an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses as he put together a historic season for the Golden Gophers. He rushed for at least 100 yards in every full game he played this year, the only games he went for less, he played only part of the game. His 20 rushing touchdowns were a school record, and in his final game, he broke the school records for both single-season rush yards and attempts. He also holds most of his school's career rushing records, which is impressive coming from a school known for having good running backs. He isn't a flashy player and he's not the fastest nor the most powerful running back, but he is an extremely hard worker and always works upfield, so he rarely loses yards. He knows the importance of keeping his legs driving even after contact and always falls forward for extra yards. This is like a boxer delivering body blow after body blow. He’s over 100 yards rushing again today for the ninth game in a row, posting 122 yards on the ground on 31 carries with two TDs against Nebraska with five minutes left. So why doesn’t he get much love in the scouting community? It’s a combination of poor testing numbers and injury. Ibrahim measures 5’9″, 212 pounds, and times around 4.58 seconds in the 40. 2023 NFL Draft: Week 4 Stock Report (Heisman Candidate Running Backs? This week also produced a few dominant running performances and players putting themselves in early Heisman conversations. Blake Corum of Michigan, Mohamed Ibrahim of Minnesota and Deuce Vaughn of Kansas State all had incredible games that were key aspects of their team getting wins. Corum and Vaughn especially had vital performances, because if it wasn’t for them being able to sustain drives both teams probably lose. In a tight game against Maryland Corum rushed for 243 yards and had two touchdowns, continuing with Michigan’s dominating run game. Vaughn had 115 rushing yards and no touchdowns, but his ability to make people miss and keep his offense on the field was huge in that win. Though Ibrahim wasn’t in a close game, it was his sheer dominance that stuck out. After redshirting his freshman season, he stepped into the starting lineup for the 2018 campaign, and gained 1,160 yards on 202 carries, scoring nine touchdowns. That rushing yardage mark is the second-best from a freshman in school history. He was named the MVP of the 2018 Quick Lane Bowl after gaining 224 yards and scoring twice against Georgia Tech. During the 2019 season, Ibrahim gained another 604 yards and scored seven times. Then in 2020, despite playing just seven games in the COVID-shortened Big Ten season, Ibrahim gained 1,076 yards on 201 carries, scoring 15 touchdowns for the Golden Gophers. He was named the Ameche-Dayne Running Back of the Year, awarded to the top back in the Big Ten. He is the first player in Minnesota history to earn that award. Ibrahim looked poised for a huge senior season, particularly given how the first game of the 2021 campaign began for him. In the season-opener against Ohio State, Ibrahim scored from 19 yards out early in the third quarter to extend Minnesota’s lead to 21-17. He would finish the game having gained 163 yards on 30 carries, scoring a pair of touchdowns, but an Achilles’ Heel injury suffered in the second half ended his season.
