Ranking top young QB draft picks by best situation (1. Hendon Hooker
Year: 2023 | Team: Lions | Drafted: 3rd round, 68th overall.  An increasingly popular first-round projection in the weeks leading up to the draft, Hooker could end up benefitting immensely from the fact he slid to Detroit on Day 2. Yes, Jared Goff is entrenched as the Lions' present-day starter, and theoretically he's primed to build on an underrated 2022 with more weaponry. But he's due $30+ million in each of the next two years, has shown physical limitations as an off-script passer, and if somehow the Lions don't maximize their opportunity this year, it's feasible Hooker's more athletic profile could be called upon. Either way, we're talking about a situation in which Hooker doesn't have to rush back from injury, and will be joining one of the NFL's most enticing up-and-comers. He can sit and learn from Goff while preparing for the chance to headline a lineup that now includes RB Jahmyr Gibbs, WRs Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, TE Sam LaPorta and a rising defense -- all young, ascending pieces under Dan Campbell and Ben Johnson.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-draft-ranking-qbs-taken-in-rounds-1-3-in-2023-and-2022-by-situation-including-bryce-young-hendon-hooker/

Best, worst, most interesting NFL draft pick for all 32 (Detroit Lions - Best pick (A+): LB Jack Campbell, Iowa (Round 1, Pick 18).  I love this pick for the Lions. This kid will be special. He is big, can run and will improve as a cover player as he gets acclimated to the NFL game. He's one of my favorite players in this draft. (Pete Prisco).  Worst pick (D): RB Jahmyr Gibbs, Alabama (Round 1, Pick 12).  Yes, he's an air back. Yes, he can do a lot of things. But, again, why take him here when there is a guy like corner Christian Gonzalez on the board? He's good but he's a back. At least it wasn't a top-10 pick.  Most interesting pick (B-): QB Hendon Hooker, Tennessee (Round 3, Pick 68).  How could you not be interested in the third-round quarterback selection? Is this a player Brad Holmes believes has potential as a franchise quarterback, or elite backup? He's not exactly a raw project at 25 years old.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/2023-nfl-draft-every-teams-best-worst-and-most-interesting-pick-in-division-by-division-takeaways/

13 Winners (Bill Belichick!) and losers (oh no, Lions) of the 2023 NFL Draft (Losers - The Detroit Lions' hubris:  As the architect of the rising Lions, I thought general manager Brad Holmes came from the football school of thought where you never reach. I thought he was an executive who would stick to his guns and use what power he had to keep the Lions on the ascent.  Detroit may still be an NFC power and team to watch in 2023. There’s too much talent wearing Honolulu Blue right now. But I think there’s little doubt that Holmes and his staff flubbed their latest draft. It might be a setback that even puts the Lions back on the eventual downslope.  I like Jahmyr Gibbs, the running back. I like Jack Campbell, the linebacker. But both probably could’ve been had in the second round. I like Sam LaPorta, the tight end. He probably could’ve been had in the third or even fourth round. Selections like Brian Branch might be future Pro Bowlers (at least by my estimation), but they don’t redeem Holmes’ Lions’ early puzzling approach to this draft. If anything, they make me wonder what happened and what made the Lions eventually correct course.  Detroit had an opportunity to sand over major flaws and cement itself as an NFC heavyweight. Instead, members of this organization drafted like they’ve been reading their own offseason hype.):  https://ftw.usatoday.com/lists/nfl-draft-winners-losers-patriots-bears-lions-jaguars

10 NFL veteran moves that should happen post-2023 draft (Frank Clark to the Lions:  Detroit added significant pieces on both sides of the ball in a bizarre but productive draft; LB Jack Campbell and S Brian Branch should only bring more physicality to an ascending defense. The one area they did not address, however, was pass rusher, where Aidan Hutchinson could use a superior running mate. John Cominsky flashed late in 2022, but Clark, who remains unsigned after a cap-saving release from the Super Bowl-winning Chiefs, could make for a more experienced complement, especially come playoff-push time. As a bonus, the former Pro Bowler entered the NFL out of Michigan, giving him a hometown connection.):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/ten-nfl-veteran-moves-that-should-be-made-after-2023-nfl-draft-trey-lance-to-vikings-dalvin-cook-to-bills/
