NFC tiers for 2023: Eagles, 49ers, Cowboys lead the way (Tier 2: The growing contenders (3) - Detroit Lions, Seattle Seahawks, New York Giants. Two of these three were surprise 2022 playoff teams, and the other is angling to snap a six-year streak of non-postseason action. In other words, none of them feel particularly trustworthy, and yet, on paper, they register as organizations built for another step forward. Let's start with the Giants: it's still unclear whether QB Daniel Jones has the help or wherewithal to stretch the field as a passer, but if Brian Daboll can guide a road playoff win with last year's makeshift setup, adding vets like Darren Waller and Parris Campbell shouldn't hurt. With underrated, ascending youth on both sides of the line, they should at least be scrappy again. Like the G-Men, the Seahawks are betting their QB's breakout wasn't a fluke, and while Geno Smith reverted to some turnover tendencies down the stretch, he's got deep skill-position support and a defense that looks vastly improved. Pete Carroll might finally have a stingy group again, adding physicality up front (Dre'Mont Jones), in the middle (Bobby Wagner) and on the back end (Devon Witherspoon). The Lions are just as promising, surrounding Jared Goff with a sturdy line and young playmakers like Jahmyr Gibbs and Amon-Ra St. Brown. Their "D" also got more physical with a secondary makeover. It's been a long time, however, since they had such high expectations to meet, and Goff has his own hurdles to clear when it comes to off-script, big-game deliverance.): https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/ranking-2023-nfl-contenders-by-tiers-nfc-headlined-by-eagles-cowboys-49ers-entering-new-season/
One overvalued NFL player on each NFC team for 2023 (Detroit Lions - Amon-Ra St. Brown: With Jameson Williams suspended and D.J. Chark departing in free agency, St. Brown is the most reliable receiver on the Lions depth chart. He'll have a tall task early in the season with Williams out, although having a veteran presence in Marvin Jones and Josh Reynolds will help. St. Brown should be able to handle the pressure early in the year. He caught 106 passes for 1,161 yards and six touchdowns in 2022, becoming just the third player in Lions history aged 23 or younger to have a 1,000-yard season. Not only is St. Brown the youngest player in franchise history to produce a 100-catch season, but he's just the third player in NFL history to log at least 90 catches in the first two seasons of his career -- joining Michael Thomas and Odell Beckham Jr. Will St. Brown have enough pass catchers to help him out until Williams returns? That's what the Lions are banking on early in the season. St. Brown is good enough to produce, but having another pass catcher step up will make his job easier.): https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/one-overvalued-nfl-player-on-each-nfc-team-lions-amon-ra-st-brown-rams-aaron-donald-heavily-relied-on/
Ranking the NFL’s top 10 offensive coordinators entering 2023 (1. BEN JOHNSON, DETROIT LIONS: Detroit’s Ben Johnson is doing such a good job with the Lions that he has people believing in Jared Goff again. A quarterback whose salary dump was once used as a makeweight for a first-round pick in a trade is all of a sudden putting up elite-looking numbers, but his PFF grade — a throw-by-throw accounting of his individual performance — remains very close to his career baseline. That difference highlights Johnson's performance as the play caller. Johnson consistently seemed to be one step ahead of opposing defensive coordinators last season. And with more weaponry added to the offense this year, he could be in line for even better things in 2023. With any kind of repeat performance, he will likely be in a head coaching job this time next year.): https://www.pff.com/news/nfl-ranking-top-10-offensive-coordinators-2023
