Walter football (14. Swift: 04/08/20: Swift was superb at the combine, putting up fast times and showing off excellent running ability in the field work. Numerous team sources feel that Swift is a top-20 talent, but he may not go that high because of team need. Some team sources think Swift could be a running back similar to Alvin Kamara in the NFL. In 2019, Swift averaged 6.2 yards per carry for 1,216 yards with seven touchdowns. He made 24 receptions for 216 yards and a touchdown as well. 08/27/19: Georgia has been a factory for NFL running backs, with a lot of excellent players coming out of Athens in recent years. Thus, it was very noteworthy that Swift could earn carries as a true freshman in 2017 with Sony Michel and Nick Chubb also in the backfield. In his Georgia debut, Swift averaged 7.6 yards per carry for 618 yards and three touchdowns. Swift took over as a starter in 2018 but still had to split carries with Elijah Holyfield. Despite the split, Swift collected 1,049 yards with an average of 6.4 yards per carry and 10 touchdowns on only 163 carries. The sophomore also contributed well as a receiver, making 32 receptions for 297 yards and three touchdowns. Swift's speed immediately jumps out at an observer. He is a fast back with a quick first-step and a burst to the second level. He can pull away from defenders, making him a threat to take any carry or reception down the field for a huge gain. On top of being fast, Swift is a natural runner. He has excellent vision, body lean, and patience, plus runs behind his pads. Swift sets up blocks and uses his speed to dart through holes before they close. Defenders really struggle to get a hold of Swift, who has great feet that make him very elusive. Swift (SPARQ: 59.8, ADJ SPQ: .63, RAS: 8.22, Comp: Dalvin Cook (Bejamin Solak)): Swift isn’t the athlete Taylor is, and he isn’t the same caliber of runner, but he’s got him beat by miles as a receiver. A hallmark of Swift’s profile is his feel, and you see this in the passing game. As the quarterback drops back, he makes sure to chip before working around to make himself available as a check-down. He runs solid routes, he can be used in the slot, and he’ll give you good effort if you ask him to stay back and block. Per PFF, Swift dropped only three balls on 76 career catchable targets. A sawed-off, muscular runner whose game is more predicated on playing angles and making you miss than athletic explosion, Swift tested as “only” a slightly-above average athlete in Indy. His game has elements of Josh Jacobs, Alvin Kamara and Sony Michel. Swift’s footwork is sublime. Similarly to Taylor, he likes to set up linebackers early. And like Taylor, if they overcommit and get sucked into traffic, Swift is going to bounce outside into space. But going back to the athletic limitations: Swift doesn’t have the juice to consistently get around the corner. He needs a runway to get to full gear, and he doesn’t change directions at high speeds as crisply as you’d like. But boy does Swift makes defenders look silly with his jump-cut in the hole. He’s very, very slippery in the open field, challenging defenders with the threat of contact before shaking them. Swift comes equipped with sonar-radar vision, seemingly aware of even what’s going on behind him. He’s no power back, but Swift is a difficult proposition to wrestle down because of his exceptional balance and fluidity. I have a few concerns about the UGA standout that keep him off my RB1 line. First, he’s only an average-ish athlete for a smaller back, and he doesn’t break off the explosive plays you’d like for a runner you’ll spend a top-40 pick on. Second, he found himself injured in two of three seasons at Georgia despite the fact that he never once played 500 snaps in a campaign, a lingering concern, especially since he runs high and leaves himself open to big shots. As the great Taylor Swift once said, "The haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate." Tay Tay's right. And these days, when it comes to the running back position, there are plenty of haters. But I like (Jonathan) Taylor and (D'Andre) Swift to come off the board in Round 1. Taylor enjoyed an extraordinarily productive three-year run at Wisconsin, eclipsing 1,900 rushing yards each season and scoring a whopping total of 55 touchdowns. Not to mention, the 226-pounder showed off his home-run speed with a 4.39 40-yard dash at the combine. Meanwhile, Swift can do it all. He's a true three-down back built for today's NFL -- one who can succeed running inside or outside, while also serving as a serious threat in the passing game. Draft: Buyer beware prospects (D'Andre Swift, RB, Georgia - Why: Ran behind loaded Georgia line; lack of a trump card as a runner. Swift was the No. 4 running back recruit in the country in the class of 2017 and looked the part instantly at Georgia, averaging 7.6 yards per carry on 81 totes as a true freshman. After Nick Chubb and Sony Michel left for the NFL, Swift assumed feature-back duties and had back-to-back seasons averaging over 6.0 yards per rush while getting 163 and 196 carries respectively. At a thick 5-foot-8 and 212 pounds, he ran 4.48 at the combine. Everything checks out then right?Quantitatively, yes, probably. But Swift's film shows a back with a good, not great all-around skill set who found himself running behind a wonderfully cohesive and powerful offensive line. His left tackle Andrew Thomas is going in Round 1. Right tackle Isaiah Wilson is a likely Day 2 pick. Left guard Solomon Kindley will get drafted. And all three of them are outstanding run blockers who routinely paved massive lanes for Swift in the SEC. That was a major luxury for Swift. Individually, he isn't incredibly elusive and doesn't play with high-end contact balance to ward off tackle attempts to continue forward. Per the Pro Football Focus Draft Guide, Swift forced 40 missed tackles in 2019, which ranked as the 40th-most among draft-eligible running backs. He only had 18 carries of 15-plus yards, the 19th-most among that group. I don't think he plays to 4.48 on the field. And, lastly, Swift's 2018 film was better 2019. He displayed more devastating cutting skills and acceleration. That gave me a concerned feeling about him living up to a potentially Round 1 draft status in the NFL. Swift is a stellar receiver, having caught 73 passes during his three-year stay in Athens, and that skill is a big positive on his draft profile. But unless he finds himself running behind a truly dominant line like he had at Georgia, I don't think Swift will ultimately stack up with the other top backs in this class.) Thor's Running Back Rankings (2. D'Andre Swift (Georgia) (SPARQ: 59.8. ADJ SPQ: .63. RAS: 8.22. Comp: Dalvin Cook (Bejamin Solak). Swift isn’t the athlete Taylor is, and he isn’t the same caliber of runner, but he’s got him beat by miles as a receiver. A hallmark of Swift’s profile is his feel, and you see this in the passing game. As the quarterback drops back, he makes sure to chip before working around to make himself available as a check-down. He runs solid routes, he can be used in the slot, and he’ll give you good effort if you ask him to stay back and block. Per PFF, Swift dropped only three balls on 76 career catchable targets. A sawed-off, muscular runner whose game is more predicated on playing angles and making you miss than athletic explosion, Swift tested as “only” a slightly-above average athlete in Indy. His game has elements of Josh Jacobs, Alvin Kamara and Sony Michel. Swift’s footwork is sublime. Similarly to Taylor, he likes to set up linebackers early. And like Taylor, if they overcommit and get sucked into traffic, Swift is going to bounce outside into space. But going back to the athletic limitations: Swift doesn’t have the juice to consistently get around the corner. He needs a runway to get to full gear, and he doesn’t change directions at high speeds as crisply as you’d like. But boy does Swift makes defenders look silly with his jump-cut in the hole. He’s very, very slippery in the open field, challenging defenders with the threat of contact before shaking them. Swift comes equipped with sonar-radar vision, seemingly aware of even what’s going on behind him. He’s no power back, but Swift is a difficult proposition to wrestle down because of his exceptional balance and fluidity. I have a few concerns about the UGA standout that keep him off my RB1 line. First, he’s only an average-ish athlete for a smaller back, and he doesn’t break off the explosive plays you’d like for a runner you’ll spend a top-40 pick on. Second, he found himself injured in two of three seasons at Georgia despite the fact that he never once played 500 snaps in a campaign, a lingering concern, especially since he runs high and leaves himself open to big shots. The Philadelphia native is a well-rounded back capable of catching the ball out of the backfield as well as staying home in pass protection. He will carry a first-round grade. But with Kerryon Johnson yet to show he can stay healthy for an entire season, and a questionable group of ball carrier behind him on the depth chart, adding another dynamic rusher to the rotation couldn't hurt. NFL draft prospects to watch: Alabama's Jerry Jeudy needs a bounceback game (Georgia RB D’Andre Swift at Auburn - There is a nice little duel for RB1 honors in the 2020 NFL draft, and Swift’s name might be at or near the top of the list. His ability to generate yards, underrated strength and quality juice make him a possible first-round back, even if that position remains one that many teams won’t draft in Round 1. But Swift is still battling with Wisconsin’s Jonathan Taylor (who had 250 rush yards against a good Iowa defense last week), Clemson’s Travis Etienne (who has been on fire the past five games), Ohio State’s J.K. Dobbins and Utah’s Zack Moss for that top slot. This game for Swift against a tough Auburn defense will be a great look for NFL scouts. The Tigers have 64 tackles for loss in nine games and allow opposing backs a mere 3.3 yards per attempt. Other than Florida, most teams have not had success running the ball against an Auburn front that features multiple NFL prospects, headlined by DT Derrick Brown, a possible top-10 pick. Auburn plays a lot of man defense and could have an advantage on the Bulldogs’ wide receivers. This could lead to a chess game where Georgia relies more heavily on its run game with Swift and Brian Herrien, but they also will have to win against some eight-man boxes. Another option is to get Swift out in space as a pass catcher. Swift almost exclusively lines up in the backfield, with only a handful of snaps this season in the slot (16) or out wide (one), so most of his receiving production comes when he lines up in the backfield. But if the Georgia coaches look at what LSU did to Auburn, which was to slide RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire out as a receiver, it forced the Tigers to go to more zone. LSU also threw to its backs eight times in that game, seven of those to Edwards-Helaire. We’d love to see Swift featured more as a receiver, as the past four games he has a combined five catches for 25 yards on 10 targets. He possesses the soft hands and run-after-catch ability the NFL is seeking in its backs these days, and this could be the week Swift is allowed to showcase it a bit more.) In Georgia's final drive before halftime, the top running back prospect contributed 44 yards, including a 30-yard scramble; his longest of the day. He added a 24-yard reception on a screen where he was out ahead of his blockers. The Philadelphia native had a touchdown in the third quarter as well but it was called back because of a hold. Quarterback Jake Fromm threw to Swift on an out route in the first half but the running back was unable to make the catch. Last season, Swift caught 19-of-22 targets coming behind the line of scrimmage and turned them into 152 yards. And that’s his specialty. He just wins on those short-yardage dump-offs, turning nothings into somethings with elite speed. I project Swift for 257 receiving yards in 2019 and that number could be a lot higher in the NFL. Elusiveness/Broken Tackles: Per PFF, Swift averaged 3.89 yards after contact (above average) and averaged 0.23 missed tackles per carry (average) last season. Swift can make defenders miss with strength, speed, and wiggle. The trifecta. In space, Swift will beat defenders to the edge with high-end speed, and he can bounce off tackles with power up the middle. Rushing Production: D’Andre Swift racked up 618 rushing yards as a freshman despite playing alongside Nick Chubb, Sony Michel, and Elijah Holyfield. Even in a group that talented, Swift stood out because of his athleticism and three-down skill set. Top-15 2020 NFL Draft RB Rankings (3. D'Andre Swift (Georgia) | 5'9/215. There is a ton of excitement surrounding Swift right now. I can’t quite get there in ranking him among the top-two backs in the class. Not yet. But he’s nipping very, very closely at Taylor and Etienne’s heels. The biggest reason Swift closed the distance on that duo last year is his awesome pass-catching ability out of the backfield. Even if Swift never developed beyond where he’s at now, he’d be playable as a third-down back in the NFL for years. Swift posted a 32-297-3 receiving line last fall amid an extremely crowded backfield rotation. This year, Elijah Holyfield isn’t around to steal touches (though Georgia, as is their custom, returns absurd talent in the backfield). Swift’s carries are about to go up, and I think there’s a chance he’ll catch more balls as well. That’s a boon for Jake Fromm. You have to put Swift’s receiving ability up with the top backs in that metric who’ve entered the NFL the past few years. His game has elements of Josh Jacobs, Alvin Kamara and Sony Michel (though Swift is the smallest of the four; he’s closest to the 5-foot-10, 215-pound Kamara... that's also the closest stylistic comp). Swift reaches the line of scrimmage in a blur, exploding towards the hole and accelerating out of it with authority. His footwork is sublime. Similarly to Taylor, he likes to set up linebackers early. And like Taylor, if they overcommit and get sucked into traffic, Swift is going to bounce outside into space. He’s very, very slippery in the open field, and he comes equipped with sonar-radar vision, seemingly aware of even what’s going on behind him. Swift is no power back, but he’s got enough horsepower in his trunk to steal extra yards on most touches. Do not make the mistake of thinking he’s a pure finesse back because of his skill and fluidity. Swift finished No. 16 in the country in breakaway % last year – right behind Devin Singletary – and was No. 8 among all returning runners in elusive rating (which tries to isolate the success of ball-carriers from their offensive lines using a formula that includes broken tackles and yards after contact). Swift could easily be the first RB off the board in the spring. I think his pass blocking is overrated, but I could care less about that.
