Week 1 Lions Predictions and Previews

CBS Prisco (Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (-3): It will be Mitch Trubisky at quarterback for the Bears, with Matt Stafford back healthy for the Lions after missing much of last season with a back injury. That's a big edge to the Lions. At home, Stafford should have a big day against the Chicago secondary. CBS Will Brinson (Bears at Lions - I've found myself in the middle of the #LionsDen this year and, yes, it is worrisome to have *THE DETROIT LIONS* as a trendy team in the NFL. That's OK. I'm picking Matthew Stafford to win MVP and I believe Kenny Golladay will end up as the No. 1 WR in fantasy this year. Now, having said all that, this matchup concerns me greatly. The Bears are a good defensive team, they've played divisional matchups well in the past in Week 1 (see: Packers recently) and, again, I'm jumping on the Lions bandwagon. I don't care. I think this Lions team can be explosive on offense. Matt Patricia surely won't let them play for a tie again, right? And we get to fade Mitchell Trubisky. On paper, this is a forgiving first test for Mitchell Trubisky's final chance in Chicago. The Lions' defense loathes blitzing, doesn't have many pass rushers and mostly waits for opponents to mess up. NFL RealGM (Chicago Bears at Detroit Lions (-3): The concept of a “must-win” game is dramatically overstated until actual playoff status is on the line. However, this game is as much of a must-win for the Lions and embattled coach Matt Patricia as one could possibly be in Week 1. If Patricia’s Lions get rolled by Mitchell Trubisky and the Bears once again--Trubisky is 3-0 with 3 of his 5 best career games against Patricia’s defense--the home fan base in Detroit is going to turn on the coach again. All the progress, all the offensive potential, all the personal growth by Patricia won’t mean a thing if the Bears head into Ford Field and hang a bad loss on the Lions. I’d give the Bears a better chance at pulling it off if I had any faith at all in their offensive skill positions outside of WR Allen Robinson.
