Week 4 Predictions

SN Bender (New Orleans Saints (-3.5) at Detroit Lions:  This is a must-win game for a pair of 1-2 teams, and the Lions have won three of the last four meetings. Both defenses are giving up more than 30 points per game, and that means Drew Brees and Matthew Stafford should be able to turn this into a thriller. Take the over.  Pick: Saints 34, Lions 31):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-week-4-cowboys-steelers-bears-browns/qnri1bn262j416pe48j8yp1y5

SN Iyer (Saints at Lions:  The Saints aren't falling to 1-3. They got throttled late in prime time by both the Raiders and Packers and they're playing a fourth consecutive game in a comfortable, large indoor venue. The Lions will struggle with red-hot Alvin Kamara and they don't really have answers for the speed and quickness of the Saints' healthy wide receivers. Matthew Stafford, as a No. 9 opposite Drew Brees, will get to exploit great matchups for his wide receivers and tight ends. But New Orleans will put the game on ice with Kamara and Latavius Murray before Stafford can get a chance at one of his patented home fourth-quarter comebacks.  Pick: Saints win 31-27):  https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nfl/news/nfl-picks-predictions-week-4-chiefs-patriots-steelers-titans-seahawks-cowboys/yiavyzz0aoqk1nw5dxispi1gr

CBS Prisco (New Orleans Saints at Detroit Lions (+4):  The Saints didn't look good in losing at home to the Packers, especially on defense. This is a tough road game to try and turn it around. Matthew Stafford played well last week, and I think he will in this one. But the Saints will score as well. They win a tight, high-scoring game. Pick: Saints 31, Lions 30):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/pete-priscos-nfl-week-4-odds-picks-cowboys-rout-browns-chiefs-roll-past-patriots-49ers-edge-eagles/

CBS Will Brinson (Saints (1-2) at Lions (1-2):  This is going to sound like a hot take/insane person talking but the Lions could legitimately be 3-0 at this point of the season. No, really! They should have beaten the Bears, they were leading against the Packers 14-3 and they actually beat the Cardinals. It's just a different team with Kenny Golladay back on the field and Matthew Stafford is starting to get things going in the pass game. Without Michael Thomas (TBD for this game but I don't see how/why he plays or why he'll be effective if he does) the Saints offense is Drew Brees looking deep, deciding not to throw and then hitting Alvin Kamara on a dump-off pass. I don't know if Matt Patricia can solve that, but I think Detroit will get enough points on their own to win this.  Pick: Lions 21, Saints 17):  https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/nfl-week-3-picks-odds-rams-beat-bills-broncos-challenge-brady-and-bucs-panthers-upset-bolts/

PFT (Saints (-4) at Lions:  MDS’s take: The Lions looked better than expected on Sunday and the Saints looked worse, but I just don’t see the Lions’ defense being able to stop the Saints’ multifaceted offensive attack.  MDS’s pick: Saints 30, Lions 20.  Florio’s take: The Lions have gotten their win for the first half of the season, so they can take their foot off the gas against a desperate Saints team.  Florio’s pick: Saints 31, Lions 17.):  https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2020/09/24/pfts-week-three-picks-11/

NFL.com (New Orleans Saints 26, Detroit Lions 23:  It's understandable that the focus has been on Drew Brees' arm as his ADOT (average depth of target) creeps below sea level. But the Saints need more production out of their defensive stars like Cameron Jordan and Marshon Lattimore, too. The Lions are no pushovers, good enough to have blown leads in all three games before last week's recovery in Arizona. Matthew Stafford has the arm, but I'm not sure Kenny Golladay has the juice in his legs yet to expose the Saints' issues in coverage. The Lions also struggle to rush the passer, which usually leads to slow death against Brees, even when he's throwing the ball 5 yards at a time.):  https://www.nfl.com/news/nfl-week-4-game-picks-broncos-defeat-jets-chiefs-over-patriots

NFL RealGM (New Orleans Saints at Detroit Lions (+4): Detroit’s toothless defense is exactly what the doctor ordered for Drew Brees and his alleged loss of manly vigor. He should be getting Michael Thomas back, too. Detroit’s offense should keep it a challenge, but Brees has earned the benefit of my doubt. Now if Brees can’t light up a Lions defense that puts about as much pressure on opposing QBs as a flea on a rhinoceros, it’s time to worry. Saints 33, Lions 28):  https://football.realgm.com/analysis/3287/Football-Meteorology-For-NFL-Week-4
