Week 7 Predictions

CBS Prisco (Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons (-2):  This should be fun to watch if you love offense. Both defenses have issues. The Falcons came alive against the Vikings last week as Matt Ryan and Julio Jones lit them up. They will have success here as well, but the Lions will get their offense cranked up too. First one to 35 wins. CBS Brinson (Detroit (2-3) at Atlanta (1-5)
1 p.m. ET (FOX):  This SHOULD be the shootout of the week, but be careful. The Falcons and Vikings went way over last week, but it took a bunch of pretty crazy garbage time touchdowns from both teams for it to happen. This is a massive over-correction on Atlanta -- it shouldn't be nearly a field goal favorite when home field doesn't matter. The Lions could -- and some would say should -- easily be 4-2 and the line would be completely different if that's the case. Matt Ryan's big game last week was impressive, but I like the Lions off a bye here coming into Atlanta and putting up points early. If things start slow, feel free to live bet the over and/or take the second half over. SN Iyer (Lions at Falcons ( -3, 56.5 o/u ):  The Falcons came to life under interim coach Raheem Morris, sparked by the explosive return of their best player, wide receiver Julio Jones. Jones has made the entire passing game red-hot again for Matt Ryan and now it's time save some face at home. The Lions looked good on the road in Jacksonville with more of D'Andre Swift, who returns to Georgia to duel fellow former Bulldog Todd Gurley. But with Jones, Calvin Ridley and others, Ryan has more support than his good friend Matthew Stafford, who also returns to Georgia. SN Bender (Detroit Lions at Atlanta Falcons (-3):  The Falcons finally won their first game of the season, and Detroit has an opportunity to get back to .500. Both the Lions and Falcons were their best selves in blowout wins last week, a reminder for Atlanta that availability matters. It turns out that getting Julio Jones reinserted into the lineup helps. Detroit played swarming defense coming out of its bye week, but the surprisingly consistent meh play from quarterback Matthew Stafford has me spooked. PFT (Lions (+2.5) at Falcons:  MDS’s take: After ugly starts to their seasons, the winner of this game will find itself on a two-game winning streak. I think that when Julio Jones is healthy the Falcons still have an elite passing game, and the Lions will struggle to stop it.  MDS’s pick: Falcons 28, Lions 24.  Florio’s take: Lions coach Matt Patricia must win the games he should, or his chances to continue to lose games will disappear. Beek's Bits: Is Falcons defense for real? Julio and the 125 Club, prediction vs. Lions, NFC South picks (Tabeek's Take: Outside of one of their three losses, the Lions had opportunities to win two of those games. They're heading into Atlanta – Matthew Stafford's first against the Falcons here in Georgia – with a 2-3 record but don't be fooled by it. The good news is that I don't think the 1-5 Falcons are taking anyone lightly these days and I see no reason why they shouldn't be able to build off that momentum from a week ago. I like the Falcons to pull away late in this one. They've played some good ball, and they've had bad stretches – mostly in losing leads late in games.
